Hi Dave thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this mixed bag action! Wow that's awesome - sounds like a wonderful trip next summer! I actually caught my first king salmon ever (many years ago) fishing a spin-n-glow setup with herring cut bait wading the banks of the Kasilof River - I'll never forget that battle!!! Are you going to be fishing out of a drift boat or shoreside angling? Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Haha hi Patrick thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this fishing action! Perhaps we could have a tournament someday - the most arrowtooth flounder plus sculpin with a bonus "lunker" award for the largest sculpin! haha. Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hey @martywade5519 thanks for the positive comment and I'm glad you enjoyed this footage! One way people come up and fish all summer is to work as a deckhand on a charter boat - that gets you on the water fishing nearly every day of the sumnmer! Tight lines! Captain Zac
Hi Jimmie thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this multi-species fishing action! I appreciate the positive comment - tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hey John thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this mixed bag action! Haha that's the perfect way to describe those sculpin - Boone & Crocket sculpin!!! My stock (of halibut jigs) will be totally full when I re-open my store in January and my stock of 2022 footage is in good shape since I have a number of additional 2022 adventures to publish in the coming months. Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Great to see another video from you Zac! Making me dream of AK next year? I’m down in Baja catching tuna and Mahi. Stay safe Hi Mary and happy holidays ❤
Andy my friend!!! Many thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut and salmon action! You sir are living the dream - halibut fishing in Alaska by summer and tuna/mahi fishing in Baha by winter! Thanks for the well-wishes and happy holidays to you also! Tight lines in 2023! Captain Zac
Hi HOOKING N' REELING (awesome screen name!) thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you found my channel! For the most multi-species action you might consider mid/late summer in Alaska, say from mid July to mid August. On a daily basis you'd have a good shot at catching halibut, silver (coho) salmon, and a variety of other tasty bycatch such as pacific cod, ling cod, rockfish and even dungeness crab or shrimp if you had the gear for that. Earlier in the summer you could fish for king salmon but they'll require more rod hours thus don't often lend themselves well to the highest chance of multi-species days - whereas cohos tend to bite more willingly (stack a few cohos and then go halibut fishing!). Feel free to let me know if you have additional questions as you look into more specific options for a future Alaska trip! Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
@@CaptainZac really appreciate the information, I'll plan for summer time. Really would love to target multi species. Thanks I'll be watching your channel to learn more also. Thanks
Hi Moosedigger thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this mixed bag action! Yes indeed - I'm aiming to do more "how to" videos this season which show the gear and the rig. Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Nice video. Smart move on cutting your line that ran afoul with your partners once you got yours aboard. One line rubbing on another (especially braid) can easily nick/cut the one under most tension..... almost like a knife. Easy enough to retie your rig once both fish are secured and in the boat. Looks like most of your halibut fishing done now is with the boat under a controlled drift vs. at anchor. Are you finding more success that way. Obviously easier to fish deep water that way. Keep up the good work. Tight Lines in 2023!
Hi Geoff thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this mixed bag action! Yes indeed - two braided lines rubbing together can quickly lead to a lost fish. We were lucky in this instance that my fish was only a cod (less weight) and that Brandon's halibut wasn't going for a heavy run right as I crossed his line - it gave us just enough time to cut my line free from the action! I did a lot of backtrolling in the 2022 season, mostly to cover water, fish some new spots and as you point out target some deeper drops. While I do find a lot of success backtrolling, I wouldn't say it is any better than dropping the hook on a premium spot, during a premium tide (turn) and using a premium bait (a Fire Eye Glow Jig with tipped with something tasty)! Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hi stoweman34 thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this mixed bag action! I appreciate the positive comment - tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Always fun, Zac! My comment is that the video would be better if there were tidbits of “expert” info. For example, how deep do you like to troll for kings, what kind of bait or lure do you like, how fast, with the tide or against, what bait are you using foe the halibut, etc. otherwise your fishing videos all start looking the same. You could put a lot of fishing tips in there between fish or even while reeling in. Tight lines, buddy!
Hi Kim thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this mixed bag action! I appreciate the feedback about adding more "tips" in along the way to make the videos as informative as possible. I'll keep this suggestion in mind as I continue to evolve my content. Are you doing any trolling for winter kings these days or is the boat out of the water until next spring? Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Haha no pain no gain! You miss 100% of the fish that you don't fish for! That said, I'm with you - the boat will get dropped back in the water in the spring!
Hey thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this mixed bag action! The reason we looked so bummed after catching a flounder is that we were targeting halibut - a much better fish to keep and eat! Tight lines! Captain Zac
Hi 2Fish5Loaves thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut and salmon action! Yes indeed - that's why I love fishing in Southeast Alaska. Usually pretty calm and still tons of great fishing! Tight lines! Captain Zac
