    It's corn harvest time in Alabama again! It's amazing to see the fields shining gold and all the hard work paying off. Moments like these not only bring joy but also make us feel the simple beauty of country life. Each corn is a labor of love and patience!" 🌽✨

    Glad I found your channel. You might find this interesting. My great great grandmother was Elizabeth Beers from Benton .She passed away after childbirth and one of her brothers, George Washington Beers took the baby to Montgomery and raised him . I won't bore you with anymore of this but I have been hunting down there for about 45years😊

    I am in a different region than you, but last year I dealt with some very similar conditions in corn with my Geringhoff. I found running the head as high as I could helped to prevent bringing excess trash through the combine, which I offset by running Devastators on the bottom of the head (could use stompers as well). I was running right below the ear, so even if I was getting stalk breakage, it wouldn't give me as many fits. I also have the Geringhoff factory ICF Crop Sweeper. I am not a fan of traditional reels, but the sweeper is very effective against lodging on the top of the snouts, and being able to use your control and reel controls to pop it out and "pull" a wad in when it did break, it really helped me with having to get out and clean up plugs. Plus, when you dont need, it, turn the valve on the side of the head, fold it out of the way, and go about your business. I also picked up a hair of ground speed and slowed the head down a little, using the momentum to help feed - but everyone's experience may be different. I would highly advise looking into the sweeper, its the best money I've spent besides the investment of the Geringhoff, and by not having a folding head, you can run the full length head. Good luck!

    To help the stalks feed in better try taking those rubber cob savers off including the ones on top of the snouts. When the stalks are that brittle they catch and break off. Try that on the rows that plug the most and see if it makes any difference.

    Dan is right. Vibration will crack those hydraulic lines quicker than most anything. I've seen it happen on combines, tractors, cotton pickers, even on trucks.
    And I can tell just from his tone, this isn't his first go around with this issue.
    Take a look at those hands. They have turned many a wrench!

    I'd say a corn reel might be a help. I know your corn isn't down but a reel would keep it feeding into the combine. Have a safe harvest. Really like watching your videos.

      Second on the corn head reel. It will work in standing corn. Set your reel speed to keep stalks moving to auger. Enjoy your videos. PS: do you get any wind of significance over winter? Might have some trouble keeping chopped residue in place.

      90 bushel corn does not pay for.the planting cost by a long shot. In 2024 the average cost.to.plant.an acre of corn is $850. With today's prices you loose big money fast. It can put ya out.of buisness in a hurry. A 1000 acre.farm.would be at a $500,000 loss in one year. Our break even yield is 157 bushels/acre.

    Too much deck angle can cause corn to ball up and cause jamming on the head, adjust the deck plate to best deck angle for corn is 20-25 degrees, standing corn use lower angle, laying corn use the higher. Measure angle with head about 2"inches off the ground. Slowing ground speed (I believe you are running slower at 3.5 mph) is good also .

    • @jgm8695
      @jgm8695 Месяц назад

      You a 100% right, if that deck angle is to high its like pushing snow, but it's corn stocks. Geringhoff says it's suppose to be 22 degrees.

    Weld some flat washers on your gathering chains (long links) leave them sticking high as possible without them hitting anything while they turn………John Deere makes kits that does the same thing but there flat pieces of metal that you bolt onto the chains……..I’m sure case makes them as well or yetter…….helps tremendously in dry stalks

    Daniel, one thing to try is adjusting your header height. I know you guys like that auto height but if you run it manually and run the height where the “ear savers” or black flaps on each row are an inch or two below your lowest ears, there will be less stalk breaking off into the header. Thats been my experience. Just an idea you can try.
