A great scifi and action movie. Kurt Russell was terrific as Todd. In fact he spoke the least amount of words and let his body language do most of the talking for him. In fact for one scene where you see all the boys at the beginning of the movie on a cross country run the lead boy carrying the unit flag is actually Kurt Russell's son who resembled his dad. A top-notch movie for anyone into scifi and serious action.

this movie to me yes is definitely sci-fi an a work of fiction. but brings to light PTSD. it shows the reason it esist. tod was a soldier that the only life he knew. he was trained since he was young. all he knew was this. an all sudden be was no longer soldier an had to deal with normal civilian life. with civilians it show the hardship he has to go through an also shows that the civilians where also scared of him because the fact he was soldier. it shows exactly the problem people that have PTSD have the problem yes it work of fiction but does show that very well. I don't know if it was attentional or pure coincidence. but it did amazing job showing it

David Webb Peoples has said that he considers Soldier a "side-quel" to Blade Runner because it takes place in the same universe. The vehicles used by the Blade Runners - spinners - are also used in Soldier. Also fun fact: the actor who plays the father Mace is the son of the actor who played the third Doctor Who.

I've seen this movie countless times. Not a bad overview, but needs a few corrections. Todd's team wasn't killed. Just him, so they thought, & his 2 fellow soldiers that were ordered to fight Caine. When they lost they were all thrown onto a trash ship. Arcadia was a trash planet. The other soldiers were demoted & ended up being part of the crew of the "spaceship" at the end. They followed Todd because he was already their leader. Also, Sandra did not order Todd to kill the attacking soldiers. She told him they, the community, would join in the fight if he could show them what to do. He refused. "Soldiers deserve soldiers sir" he replied. He continued getting prepared & Sandra asked, "What are you going to do?" Camera goes to a tight shot on Todd's face. "I'm going to kill them all sir." Freaking great syfy movie!

What Todd went through with the family and snake is like a social commentary i.e trying to tell someone the Govt isn’t your friend!😅👍

There's a scene depicting the effects of PTSD that is hauntingly relatable. He leaves a community party to sneak down to the basement and using a trucks petrol tank as a heavy bag he starts punching the fuck out of it because it's the closest thing to enjoyment that he can relate to or identify with.
Up stairs they party and laugh and get drunk while downstairs he punches a metal punching bag til his knuckles bleed.
It's was one of saddest, shocking and strangely moving moments in the whole movie when you see him standing there both his fist's bleeding from the violence of his own confusion you realize how emotionally damaged and irretrievably lost he is.
Bought a lump to my throat I don't mind saying.😳😢

I watched your video because "Soldier" has a great story. With superb actors. And a director that utilized his assets to their maximum potential.
Personally, I'm happy this fine movie is being remembered.

It’s such shame since many of Kurt Russell’s films are so misunderstood and under appreciated.

I remember watching this movie years ago and I always thought, it would stand the test of time. It had a believable and in my opinion very well written storyline. More importantly the acting in this movie was genuinely great acting. Not the cardboard acting we tend to get now. Sadly the world is full of people like the Colonel. As to getting the children and training them as soldiers..... Who knows if that is true or not, now or in the future. But it has a element which could be believable. I know I know there will be those who say that is not possible and would never happen. But, didnt they say the same about someone landing on the moon?

Manager : This movie script only required you to say 'Yes sir', 'No, Sir' a few time.
Kurt Russel : Okay, I'll take it.

Great underrated sci-fi flick which is a far better watch than it had any business being when it came out. The only thing that bugged me is the fact that the writers thought we'd be capable of interstellar travel by the late 2020s (given Todd was born in 1996 according to this video's narrator.)

it always drove me nuts how we think of weapons just because something it new doesn't mean the old thing can't kill anything anymore modern example case and point machine guns a ww1 maxim machine gun will still kill you dead the same as a a modern m60 saw

I still remember what Col. Mekum told Cain-607 after he ordered him down the chain. "Do you have any idea how much it cost to breed you, you big moron?!? TO TRAIN YOU? FEED YOU?" I always liked this movie and felt bad for the old soldiers since they were ridiculed and essentially objects of derision for that Lt. Sloan chick.( She describes the new Soldiers as "pretty" earlier in the movie when they're introduced) But it was good to see their comeuppance in the end when they get tossed out and essentially done in by the Colonel's incompetence.

I am not military, but I have seen this movie twice… but the most touching part, is when he is banished from the village and finds safety in a concrete pipeline part… and for the first time in his life he sheds tears knowing that he was utterly alone… but unknowing that what was about to happen would change his life and future destiny.
And his previous training would be his ally in fighting against the new military dictatorship.
