Most people don't know that Phyllis was also an accomplished concert pianist. She played with major orchestras, and when she walked on stage, people would laugh. They thought it was going to be a comedy act. But then she'd play Beethoven or Mozart, and people's jaws would drop.
PHYLLIS DILLER WAS SO KIND TO MY MOM AND I WHEN I WAS YOUNG WHEN MY AUNT WAS MIKE DOUGLAS'S PRODUCER AND WE WOULD HANG OUT WITH HER IN THE GREEN ROOM, AND THEN WHEN SHE APPEARED AT THE LATIN CASINO IN CHERRY HILL SHE CAME TO OUR HOUSE AND HAD EVERYONE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD LAUGHING.A GREAT LADY.
I think it's interesting many of us knew Phillis Diller in Webster Groves Mo. and that's not mentioned that she ever lived in Missouri. We saw her at Bettendorph's Grocery store frequently, and knew it was her by her laugh. I also knew of Ppl who babysat her children.
As usual Ms. Rivers delivers- and what I noticed about her candor and honesty, is that she never once said I loved her- (so passee and most times fake) ) but" I really liked her" that is real affection and admiration for someone
Miss Joan so much! She was the kind of person you were happy to know she was around making people laugh and mad! Haha always in our hearts Joan! ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Phyllis Diller was the first female comic that I was crazy about her humor. First woman, to talk about her plastic surgery. Loved her crazy outfits! Miss them both.
I'M TOTALLY CRAZY ABOUT *BOTHE* OF THEM!! PHYLLIS DILLER AND JOANIE RIVERS. I LOVE THEM WITH A HEART AND A HALF. I MISS THEM SO MUCH. THIS WORLD IS SO MUCH LESS WITHOUT THEM. ITS AWFUL.
As a child I loved her in "Boy Did I Get a wrong Number." Decades later she showed up on my soap 'The Bold and the Beautiful.' I think she was a minister, or something to do with a wedding. She was so fun.
I loved Phyllis Diller when I was a kid. I really enjoyed a funny movie with her and Bob Hope. She was so talented. I liked her laugh. I'm glad she seemed to have a long life. She made a lot of people laugh.
WOW! She looked gorgeous here! I wonder if she knew how beautiful she truly was ( _Ive always considered her to be a beautiful woman_ ); No one has ever been able to make me laugh out loud other than Joan and the legendary Don Rickles. Don was the KING of comedy + Joan was its QUEEN. There will never be anyone as intelligent + as funny as these two wonderful people were. Thank you for all the laughter Joan, you are missed every day :) Rest In Love
I think she knew. The over the top was always the comedy. But she knew how to put herself together. When she sold clothing on Qvc, her advice to anyone was, if you find pants, blouse, etc, that fit, buy multiples and get them tailored to you and in different fittings for different occasions. As a man who is a bit odd shaped, I plan to start taking this advice, because jeans and shirts, etc, fit me oddly. Tailoring seems to be the key, since in our current day, we mostly purchase ready to wear.
Joan Rivers after all these years is still at the top of her game. I remember seeing her a few times in Vegas in the eighties and in Hollywood for her workshops. I wanted to write for her and her manager at the time encouraged me to send my material to him. But i lacked the ambition and drive. We easily diss those we think have little to no talent. But to stay in the public eye is harder than it looks. And Joan does it well
Loved Joan's words about Phyllis. My favorite joke of Phyllis's was "I'm so ugly. I just spent 5 hours at the beauty parlor. And that was just for an estimate!". In reality, after a little cosmetic surgery she was quite attractive, but she hid her body in big, formless suits and wore shock wigs to be able to keep up the schtick.
I HATED P. Diller's comedy growing up. I am doubly impressed by her kindness and generosity to Joan exploding the myth of women's jealousy of one another It brought a tear to my eye to know that both are gone..
Joan looked divine here, at the top of her game, heart breaking that she went far too soon and left a massive gap. There is so much material right now with Putin, Trump, Prince Harry etc, she would have loved it!
That’s true that Moms Mabley came before Phyllis Diller, but moms Mabley started out in vaudeville which welcomed women performers and also women comedians much more than the later stage shows that Phyllis Diller would break in as did Joan Rivers. There was no vaudeville by the time Diller started in the 50s. Vaudeville was gone by the 40s.
I was not a fan in the beginning. Joan was too crass for me. She just seemed like a woman, trying to be a man. I will never be a fan of that. But to me, in the end she became the funniest most gracious lady, we will ever see in comedy. I miss you, Joan, as much as I do miss Diller.
I do want to add that I got to see Joan Rivers early on when she’d be on the Ed Sullivan show and we just loved seeing her on the Sullivan show. Joan Rivers was different, her comedy was about women, married women and the state of being a single woman. Joan did make fun of herself so I don’t see your point about Joan Rivers being crass, that came much much much later in her career. But when you saw Joan Rivers early on in the 60s, she was just a funny woman talking from an American woman’s perspective. And she went on Ed Sullivan when she was pregnant with her daughter Melissa!
It's so sad hey. You see all these amazing tributes to what was such a vivacious woman and all I could think was did she know Jesus, DID SHE KNOW JESUS?!! I just googled to try find out. But the reality is, if you need to google to find out if someone passionately loves and lives for Jesus, then I guess you already know the answer. It truly breaks my heart. We can be held in the highest regard here on earth, be absolute superstars who give millions to charities and inspire even more millions….but if we don't know Jesus….it's just scary to think of the very real possibility that while people here on earth are sharing heartfelt words of sorrow and "see you in Heaven" comments….well, I don't need to say anything else. Anyone who reads this, please, please, turn to Jesus xx
Kirsty Cameron If you wonder if someone 'knew Jesus' and have to Google the answer, it tells you that they see faith as something one lives rather than something one advertises. There are people who think expressing one's faith in dignity ,in empathy and in good works is far better than bragging and boasting about it.
+Kirsty Cameron Unless your a despicable person and the lowest of the low, you've got nothing to worry about. Good grief get sick of people like you spreading your gloom and doom.
Joan was classy, chic, and caring at heart. We still miss you terribly Joan!
Never heard of anyone speaking badly about Phyllis Diller.. loved her and Joan!
We teared up remembering you too, dear, dear dearly missed Joan!
Joan knew how to give a classy interview, when it was called for didn't she?? what a great gal!
Indeed

Phyllis diller was hilarious a great comedian ❤
As usual Ms. Rivers delivers- and what I noticed about her candor and honesty, is that she never once said I loved her- (so passee and most times fake) ) but" I really liked her" that is real affection and admiration for someone
What's so sad is that Joan died not too long later. Not because of legitimate health problems but due to medical neglect.
Or bc she was on the wrong side of politics
Miss Joan so much! She was the kind of person you were happy to know she was around making people laugh and mad! Haha always in our hearts Joan! ♥️♥️♥️♥️
RIP Ms Diller and MS Rivers , THANKS FOR ALL THE WONDERFUL MEMORIES, two true entertainment LEGENDS. We will remember you always.
Phyllis was great. Joan was great.
love both these women. Both of them had enormous hearts and were kind and compassionate.
Phyllis Diller was the first female comic that I was crazy about her humor. First woman, to talk about her plastic surgery. Loved her crazy outfits! Miss them both.

WE ALL LOVED MISS PHYLLIS DILLER WE ALL DID, AMEN AMEN
Actually a caring humble woman , with talent !!
As a child I loved her in "Boy Did I Get a wrong Number." Decades later she showed up on my soap 'The Bold and the Beautiful.'
I think she was a minister, or something to do with a wedding. She was so fun.
Hard to believe Joan passed away only a couple of years after Phyllis. :(...
I met both of these trailblazers - they were both lovable and kooky!
Joan looks beautiful here❤️
I loved Phyllis Diller when I was a kid. I really enjoyed a funny movie with her and Bob Hope. She was so talented. I liked her laugh. I'm glad she seemed to have a long life. She made a lot of people laugh.
And only two years later, Joan was gone. Two towering greats. We'll never see their likes again.
Sad to think they are both gone 😞
phyllis Diller the funniest woman comedian ever
I really like YOU so much so much Joan Rivers
I think about Phyllis entertaining all those servicemen in war areas with Bob Hope ,what a good woman
rip joan rivers i will miss you
Joan and Phyllis RIP Two legends ❤
Sorely missed
Both great women. RIP
WOW! She looked gorgeous here! I wonder if she knew how beautiful she truly was ( _Ive always considered her to be a beautiful woman_ );
No one has ever been able to make me laugh out loud other than Joan and the legendary Don Rickles.

What great ladies Joan and Phyllis were
Phyllis, Joan, and Totie Fields were probably the three funniest women to live.
I remember Totie Fields! She died very young.
Totie was great!
Joan Rivers after all these years is still at the top of her game. I remember seeing her a few times in Vegas in the eighties and in Hollywood for her workshops. REST IN PEACE GOOD FRIENDS
We all wish Joan had made it to 95 years old ...
I forgot about Phyllis, she was past my time. But as a millennial Joan is everything.
joan rivers could make me laugh with tears rolling down my cheeks. What a wonderful comic she was!
Lost both of my girls :(
Miss Phyllis and Joan!! There are no great female comics left!!
Joan looks so good here! Miss her.
Joan is a good friend and really a classy lady with a bad mouth, god love her, a loose cannon......
Miss you joan!!
I loved Phyllis Diller right from the start. And I loved Joan Rivers.
I HATED P. Diller's comedy growing up. I am doubly impressed by her kindness and generosity to Joan exploding the myth of women's jealousy of one another It brought a tear to my eye to know that both are gone..
Oddly, Joan would be gone a year later
She was an amazing painter as well!
And we love you too Joan
Love the outfit Joan is wearing . She looked very well. Phyllis was lovely 💜
Diller and Rivers. Awesome 👌 👏 👍 😍
Wow Gayle managed to do a cordial interview
Now we are stuck with the Amy Schumers and Sara Silvermans...please take me back when we had REAL comedians like Don Rickles and Phyllis Diller.
LOVED PHYLIS Duller.
I loved them both
Two icons.
Two incredible funny ladies gone.....we'll never have the likes of them again.
Joan looked divine here, at the top of her game, heart breaking that she went far too soon and left a massive gap. There is so much material right now with Putin, Trump, Prince Harry etc, she would have loved it!
Dont remember the name of it but there was a movie that Phylis played in with a scene where she was on a motorcycle squirting mustard on people.
Was it,,,,boy ,did I get the wrong number,,,with Bob hope?? If it is,,its on youtube
'Boy Did I Get a Wrong Number.' Bob Hope called her an "undomesticated domestic." As a kid I loved that movie.
@@annieh2900 that's the one honey,
she had six kids...still her child even if child died as a baby.
2 very funny ladies. R.I.P.
Joan was killed during that surgery, it was so sad.
R.I.P.
True legends.
R.I.P. MISS DILLER.
Diller said she was ready to go in an online chat with Rosanne
Luv u Joan.
I liked Phyllis honesty
I wonder if JOAN RIVERS had come up with her comment joke about OPRAH & GAYLE before or after this?
My Next facelift is going to have to be a caesarian..
Moms Mabley preceded Phyllis Diller. Amongst others, I'm sure.

@@Jasper7182009 I have to add that I was a mere infant when Joan started her career. I was talking about much later.
why do i hate Gayle
JOAN IS GONE...PHYLLIS IS GONE...WHERE ARE THE FUNNY LADIES TODAY??????
We are stuck with Amy Schumer and Sara Silverman now. 😭
and now Joan is gone as well.
Chic chic chic😦😧😍

It does not matter if you believe in Jesus or whoever just that you believe in a higher power.

Kirsty Cameron Oh please. Hindus and Buddhists don't believe in Jesus. You think half the world is going to hell because they don't share your faith?
Phyllis was an atheist.
Joseph and today TV 😀
She likes Jeff. Not Gayle so much
Talking about plastic surgery and then it being the thing that killed Joan...Irony.
