    Studio One 5.5.1 is King of the Mountain in my opinion. I started with Pro Tools, didn't take long to realize the pro fools was not a stable DAW, crashed several times. I purchased my first Studio One around that time. I also tried Harrison Mixbus, which is a cool sounding DAW, but is behind on work flow compared to Studio One. I personally wish the two would team up to accomplish that Harrison Console sound. I've also tried Samplitude, MOTU Digital Preformer, a few other DAWs including Luna. But for me Studio One just made sense. It may not be for everyone but to me the work flow and everything the user get with Studio One makes it the perfect DAW. Music is the universal language that touches everyone. Keep the music alive. Stay safe and may God bless 🙏✝️

    • @ProducingInTheBox
      @ProducingInTheBox  2 года назад +2

      I couldn’t agree more! And bro, Harrison Mixbus was a blast. But I agree. The biggest problem was I couldn’t import tempo maps. Like. 😭 the sound was really cool tho. I’m fluent in ProTools just because it’s a DAW that’s popular and widely used so knowing how to use it is handy. But I didn’t like it personally. And it’s so unstable. FLStudio didn’t have the drum editing workflow I needed and Ableton seemed. Like small 😂 ya know? All great DAWs but Studio One feels like home like no other daw. God bless! Keep on making great music!

      I'm indeed recording, editing and pre mixing on Studio One, then I export and final mix on Mixbus 32c, then it's Ozone and done. I think it's a good workflow specially that Mixbus is very taxative on CPU so it also forces you to try to mix with their strips and well, of course some 3rd parties on the Bus :) . One great thing I found is that Faderport works like a charm with Mixbus without needing to set it to Mackie or otherwise.

    • @jonmessenger5621
      @jonmessenger5621 2 года назад +3

      @@PaulEvansRahal I love Studio One and the work flow as well but the final product that one can get from Mixbus is great as well. I was lucky enough to hear the real Harrison Console back in the 80's and it is a sound that you'll never forget. To this day it is the best sound to my ears I ever heard. AC/DC is one of the great artist to use the Harrison Console. To me it's the best. Thank you for telling me how you do your work flow. I think it's great. Stay safe and may God bless 🙏✝️

    S1 user here. I'm happy you're enjoying it. For me, I'm kind of in an impostor syndrome when it comes to using it. 5.5 addressed most of the features 5.4 was missing, now it's a complete DAW. For Mixing / Mastering. Not for recording / Editing. The Layers are the worst possible workflow. Can't move them around, copy/paste them until you make them a primary layer. When you have two channels selected and the layers are unfolded, you want to solo them, you'll most likely select the 2nd layer of the top channel. When you try to edit fades, it's a mess, can't really move things around with crossfades applied, theres literally no simple way to add a crossfade with a length of the selection. Those are just some major issues when recording / editing. The Melodyne integration is amazing though.
    BC I'm a travelling producer, I end up recording and editing everything in Pro Tools (since PT is the best in those), then using S1 to Mix/Master when I can. Sometimes I question myself if it's worth it, though.

    • @ProducingInTheBox
      @ProducingInTheBox  2 года назад +2

      ProTools is a beast for audio editing. I don’t use the layering feature in studio one. It’s still really clunky. Logic did nail that one for sure. 😂 I just open a new track. Taxes the cpu a little more but I can afford it for most sessions. Besides that, I love the editing workflow in studio one. Easy slip editing is another thing Logic sucked at and studio one is awesome at. Literally one of the main reasons I don’t use ProTools is because of stability. I haven’t had a good experience with it so I’ve began to avoid it. Still an industry standard and important to learn for sure tho.

    • @skk6811
      @skk6811 2 года назад +2

      @@ProducingInTheBox yeah, stability sucks in PT. Logic's folder tracks didn't really do it for me though, I always had to flattern the takes before editing so I could use fades properly.

      "For Mixing / Mastering. Not for recording / Editing" You can't be serious, you really can not be serious. Countless people use it for everything including releasing songs right from the DAW. That is such a dig and it's not an accurate one.

    I've personally tried most DAWS out there, with the exception of Pro Tools and for me 'Reaper' makes life so sweet in regards to customisation, workflow, speed and zero crashing.
    I feel that a lot of people are driven by aesthetics at the expense of performance. That's my personnal experience, however never limit yourself to one one DAW or one piece of software, they are all tools there to avail of, and never become a narrowminded Fanboy to one brand of company which is unproductive at best, and always remember that we as the consumer are nothing but a drop in ocean to these companies, who would certainly screw us over in the blink of an eye for profit if it ever came to it. Microsoft, Apple, Adobe, or whoever they may be.
    There's no perfect DAW, and if a DAW works for you stick with it, because that's the perfect DAW for 'you'.

    I started with FL studio looong time ago but left the musical life for a long time. When I came back and started studying production, my teacher made us use Reason, and I didn't know much about production so I got frustrated. Then I tried pro tools first and my computer got crazy.
    Then I tried Reaper and I can say that's my second DAW but I don't know, one of my teachers used S1 and I said, why not trying that one and learn with the same DAW ?

    Logic & midi. Logic audio started as software by Emagic, , Late 1990's, cross platforms, called Notator , a midi editor. Its features were amazing, very powerful and intuitive. Apple has somehow 'de functioned '/ lessened its usability in favor of a general overall 'ease of use'. I guess ??? I dont know why, but it is even worse, midi wise, than earlier versions of apple only logic.

    I started with ProTools, and I had a very difficult time getting anything done with it. I've had an even worse time with Reason...also the sequencer is hard to look at. I also tried FL Studio, Cubase, and Ableton...all without success. Then, I tried Studio One 2, and I liked the sounds but couldn't grasp that either. Then, I upgraded to S1 5 because of the chord track, the arranger track...for starters, and when I plugged in my microphone, guitar, and audio interface...it was so easy to set up!! I was so elated that S1 took out the guess work in the set up. One ironic thing though is if I had a Mac, I would use Logic...so I was sort of disappointed that it wasn't compatible with PC. However, your review makes me feel a bit better with my set up of S1 5 and a PC. :-)

    The big fail with Studio One to Logic concerning midi is the lack of Logic being able to program multiple articulation simultaneously over the notes in a chord within the same track. That is a huge difference. From their manual.. "Be mindful that Sound Variations will be applied to all coincident Notes, and as such you won’t be able to hear multiple articulations simultaneously. For example, you won’t be able to program a chord where the high notes use “Hammer-on” and the low notes use “Open.”
