This is such an unusual pattern, visually pleasing, thank you Sarah-Jayne. Absolutely love your tutorials, I learnt to crochet following your channel and have been "hooked" ever since.
Thank you so much! I've seen pictures of this pattern forever on Pinterest and haven't been able to find a tutorial on how to do it. This is getting bumped up to the top of my next WIP list! :D
Love your channel! I'm new to crochet and you are by far the easiest RUclips's to follow. You make it fun and easy to follow! I'm wanting to make a Call The Midwife blanket for my SIL but can't find a decent tutorial so I'd be forever grateful if you could do one! Xx
This pattern looks absolutely gorgeous! And such lovely colours chosen to compliment it! Your tutorials are always so helpful and you explain so clearly. Love the nails too! Xx
Saw a tutorial for this it was about three years old, I’ve made pot holders with this stitch. Thank you for making this tutorial, especially because you are using Uk terms. Xx
A blanket I'm working on right now uses this stitch and it calls to have the ends all stay out and form like fringe on the ends. Looks very pretty and just another way to deal with the ends. I, like you want to make sure it is secure and tie a knot on each end
Bry fount I crochet over my tails on both ends. They don't show through and it looks great. The only tail to weave in is the very last one at the last end stitch when the project is completed. If you don't want the fringe, cut the tails on the left side about 2 1/2 inches long. On the next row up as you're nearing the end, pull the tail across the top of the row and crochet over it. You can pull it even and trim any excess from the back. Looks great and you don't have that tedious task of weaving in all those tails.
Beautiful pattern ive seen around . Decided to make one so I watched a few tutorial and so far yours is the best. For instance explaining that the the first tear can be hard to start i see that the amount of stiches between tears are up to the person crocheting with all tutorials i see the stitches between tears are always even numberI've seen 4,6 and 10 can it be and odd amount like 5 or will it mess up the llok to the pattern hence make it odd lookong😄
Thank you for such a great tutorial! I think I'll try a cushion cover with some leftovers from an Attic24 project. Update: BTW, I'm left-handed. I'll let you know if I need a translation! ;-)
Thank you for such a clear tutorial,I have done y first 10 rows but I’m not sure where I start the next ten and do I do two rows before the first tear ,tia
You’re welcome! I would check out the written instructions over on my blog here: blog.bellacococrochet.com/crochet-apache-tears/ but you will need to make a new tear at the beginning of the row ready to start the pattern repeat again 😊
Love this stitch ❤ Was just wondering is it possible for work it back and forth in rows? I mean instead of cutting your yarn and starting a new row , is it possible to work it on the back as well as the front? I hope you can understand what I mean Thank you ❤
I’ve only ever seen this stitch worked one way; if you are wanting to avoid the ends I would look into working an envelope border, or tie them into a fringe instead of sewing them in 😊
Hi Bee, I wouldn't describe it as a yarn eater, in fact lots of people use this stitch to use up bits and pieces of scrap yarn 🙂 Of course, it could vary due to tension 🙂
Love the stitch! BUT all those ends, EGAD! LOL! I wish I could figure out a way to easily carry the yarn or work the ends in as I go along. Thanks for the great tutorial. 😄
What about slip stitching back to the other end and then change colors that way you can weave in the ends. Or will that make it not look right? I am new to crochet so I don't know much.
You are most welcome! Kudos to your salon, they do very nice work! Thank you for all of the work you do in presenting us with all of your crochet know how. It is very much appreciated!!
i love this stitch! I notice though my end seems uneven or stepped; is this normal and will it balance out? also is there a way to stitch around the ends to use this is a granny square?
could you do this using a US Double crochet and start with a chainless foundation? My first attemp it is actually getting smaller on the left. but I learned the stitch and I did a front post treble instead of a loop. Thank you for a LOVELY pattern
Thank you for this beautyfull pattern! I tried it but i did something wrong😥 the left side from my work it looks like a stair! How can i do it better?thank you, Carla
I saw a tutorial where she used 3 rows red then 5 different colours, 3 rows red etc and it made the 5 colours stand out. I've yet to make this rug and will to need to watch Coco's you tube a few more times.
Love this pattern. Great tutorial. Where did you get the case for your darning needles? The only one i can find is for beading needles. Is that the same as what you have shown in this video?
In order to make my tutorial simple and easily accessible for everyone I decided to use a standard starting chain; however you can use the standing foundation chain if you prefer 😊
Beautiful Blanket or Scarf I am going to try this but I just have 2 ?'s if you make your tears in multiple of 10 after 10th Tear is at end of roll or even 7 do you have to do 3sc(USA) before starting tears again. Thanks and Happy Mother's Day. Just doing me today.
In America, yes. She's British, their terms are slightly different. Double crochet is our single crochet. Treble is our double crochet Double-Treble is our Treble crochet.
This would depend on the type of yarn you are using, your hook size and your personal tension. I suggest that you do a small swatch and you should then be able to work it out from there or keep chaining until you get to your desired size :)
I am not in either the UK or the US so this is an unbiased statement. I find it difficult to believe the UK way to count is the right way of counting when they don't even have a base number. Should there not be a single stitch in the correct version? It makes no sense to me to start with doubles. There should be a base unit of a single, in my opinion.
Yes I see what you mean 😊 I’ve always thought the UK terms refer to amount of times you are pulling through a loop: so to make a double you are pulling through twice, for a treble you are pulling through three times. But there really is no ‘correct’ version, they are both equally right 😊
I have a question, does this curl for anyone else who’s done this pattern? I did a multiple of five for this and I’m making a throw with this. I’m loosened my tensions and went up to a 8mm hook and it’s still curling up. Is this normal for this or is there something I’m doing wrong?
It's a common problem for this to curl up; the reason is because of the post stitches. When making your post stitches, it's really important to bring your hook back up to its full height after yarning over and pulling through 😊
@@bellacococrochet , I’ve been doing that and I’m still getting curl of my project. I’ve frogged after my tension was too tight, while my other attempts had less of an extreme curl , I’m still getting it.
I’ve been trying this pattern out because I want to make an Afghan. But for some reason the left side of my project keeps sloping? Is this normal? I’m not loosing any stitches, I always end up with the correct amount.
Chance Ray No I’ve never been able to figure it out. The only thing I could do was add a border after the swatch was finished and that helped it some, but you can still see a slight slant. It is much better then before though. I just had to give up. I was driving myself crazy. Haha. Sorry I can’t be of any help.
Help me I’m having trouble with keeping the end of my project straight. the bottom is the length that I want but the top of the length is short how can I do better
If there’s not too much of a difference you may find that blocking sorts this out for you; you can stretch and pin your piece out to shape once it’s finished 😊 It’s likely that this has occurred due to a difference in tension; if you’re working with a tighter tension as you go along it will be shorter at the top.
Is it possible you are working your double treble too tightly which would cause the piece to bunch slightly? I would try going up a hook size to see if that helps 😊
Because you're working on one side of the work only you may find the piece slants to the left slightly, but you should find blocking at the end makes it less noticeable 😊
This stitch is always worked from right to left so even if you weren’t changing colours you would need to rejoin your yarn at the beginning of the row 😊
This is such an unusual pattern, visually pleasing, thank you Sarah-Jayne. Absolutely love your tutorials, I learnt to crochet following your channel and have been "hooked" ever since.
Mother taught me this stitch, called it the Post stitch she did. Lovely tutorial by the way.
I absolutely love the colors you chose!!! I love how you instruct on your tutorials!! You are one of my favorites!!!
Thank you. Always enjoy learning with your tutorials. You always make it easy to understand and very clear.
You are very welcome :)
Been looking into this pattern for a while just haven’t looked up a video yet. No need to anymore now that I know you have one!
Hello, Bella Coco 💜 think you for spending the afternoon with me. I appreciate all your descriptive steps 💜
You are very welcome :)

I love this pattern! You are truly an inspiration, Sarah! 💖 I've incorporated this into a crochet bag I'm making with different colors of cotton.
Thank you for sharing this stitch. I thought it was going to be more difficult but you explained it beautiful and your yarn colors are gorgeous!
This pattern looks absolutely gorgeous! And such lovely colours chosen to compliment it! Your tutorials are always so helpful and you explain so clearly. Love the nails too! Xx

Happy Mothers Day! Thank you so much for the beautiful pattern!
Saw a tutorial for this it was about three years old, I’ve made pot holders with this stitch. Thank you for making this tutorial, especially because you are using Uk terms. Xx
I remember doing this stitch when I was young . Thank you for showing how to do this again. It was difficult then learning.
As always a superbly done video - the stitch is GORGEOUS! (Love your nail polish/lacquer.)
Thank you :)
Beautiful. I’m no where near ready for it but will try when I feel I can do it.
A blanket I'm working on right now uses this stitch and it calls to have the ends all stay out and form like fringe on the ends. Looks very pretty and just another way to deal with the ends. I, like you want to make sure it is secure and tie a knot on each end

I see no reason why you can't chose an odd number. Perhaps do a little sample piece and see how it looks :)
I immediately clicked this video when I saw it, it's so lovely~
Thank you for such a great tutorial! I think I'll try a cushion cover with some leftovers from an Attic24 project. Update: BTW, I'm left-handed. I'll let you know if I need a translation! ;-)
Beautiful pattern. Have seen it before but didn't know the name. Thanks

Hi Bee, I wouldn't describe it as a yarn eater, in fact lots of people use this stitch to use up bits and pieces of scrap yarn 🙂 Of course, it could vary due to tension 🙂
Beautiful pattern, Thank you for sharing it! By the way, is there anyway you could show how to crochet the bean stitch?
Beautiful stitch and explanation😍😍
Thank you for the Wonderful Tutorial Sarah ❣️❣️❣️
Thanks this will make a great shawl
You're welcome :)
Wow ! Soooo beautiful I fell in love with it ❤️What brand and colors these yarn has ? Can’t wait to start it
Thank you 🙂 The yarn I'm using is Yarn and Colours from their Fabulous range. They have lots of colours to choose from 🙂
Hi, I love your tutorials. Can you please teach the mosaic crochet?
I love this stitch is there a chance to have a written copy of this?
The written instructions can be found on my blog at bellacococrochet.com :)
I could not find the written pattern for this
Love the stitch! BUT all those ends, EGAD! LOL! I wish I could figure out a way to easily carry the yarn or work the ends in as I go along. Thanks for the great tutorial. 😄
it wouldn't really work with this one I'm afraid due to the way it builds! It's such a lovely design though it would totally be with it :) x
Bella Coco well there's always fringed edges hahahaha 😉
Melody's Norwex thanks so much, Melody!
What about slip stitching back to the other end and then change colors that way you can weave in the ends. Or will that make it not look right? I am new to crochet so I don't know much.
Or, you could make a double sided border and all the ends would be sandwiched between the 2 sides?
Love the stitch! But, what is the nail polish you're wearing?? It's so very pretty!
Thank you. It’s actually cuccio gel polish done at the salon x
I am having the same problem. I am using it for a baby blanket and i don't want it to look uneven.
When u do your tears do u do 3 rows of dc am start your tears again. Brill video as usual love your channel xx
you would do the 3 rows only at the very beginning, once your last tear falls in the last stitch, you start from row 4 again. hope that helps x
Bella Coco thanks that helps can't wait to start it thank you xx
could you do this using a US Double crochet and start with a chainless foundation? My first attemp it is actually getting smaller on the left. but I learned the stitch and I did a front post treble instead of a loop. Thank you for a LOVELY pattern
thank you for sharing this video that is so cute I'm going to make this
I leave ends of about 6” on each end and use them as a fringe
Best idea! Thank you!
Thank you for this beautyfull pattern! I tried it but i did something wrong😥 the left side from my work it looks like a stair! How can i do it better?thank you, Carla
Gorgeous thank you so much for sharing hugs Shelley 💖
Can you use a self striping yarn as well instead of single colors for each row?
You can use self striping yarn but will still need to cut and rejoin at the right hand side due to the way the pattern is worked 😊
@bellacococrochet Thank you so much! Many crocheters don't reply
Can i use one color for the first 3 rows, and used another color for the fourth row? But i will still follow your instructions.
I saw a tutorial where she used 3 rows red then 5 different colours, 3 rows red etc and it made the 5 colours stand out. I've yet to make this rug and will to need to watch Coco's you tube a few more times.
Love going to give a try lovely
Beautiful! Thank you :)

Yes! Thank you!❤️
Where can I find a needle case like yours I love it
Any written version of these instructions? Lovely pattern .
Not at the moment sorry
Very nice, also what nail polish are you wearing so pretty 😁
Love this pattern. Great tutorial. Where did you get the case for your darning needles? The only one i can find is for beading needles. Is that the same as what you have shown in this video?
Hi Theresa it's a John james knitting pebble :)
You was doing single crochet not double, I crochet so I know but I love this design you did it nicely
Dominique Kelly , I think she was working in UK terms, which are different than us terms.
Shes using UK terminology
Love the pattern, but how do we do anapache stitch if we change colour every 3/4 rows?
Very nice
Thank you :)
I love this pattern but I’m worried that since you do the double/single crochet at the beginning, won’t this begin to sort of become unevenly wide?
As long as you are following the pattern correctly you should find it works up evenly 😊
how beautifull pattern 😍😍
Such a beautiful pattern!
Gorgeous!!!!
Would a variegated yarn work with this pattern?
Thank you.
You're welcome :)
Why are you not using the standing single crochet foundation chain?
In order to make my tutorial simple and easily accessible for everyone I decided to use a standard starting chain; however you can use the standing foundation chain if you prefer 😊

You are doing a Single Crochet and Triple Crochet!!
In America, yes. She's British, their terms are slightly different.
Double crochet is our single crochet.
Treble is our double crochet
Double-Treble is our Treble crochet.
She mentions the differences in terminology, in the video...
Molto bello!
How gorgeous..
Can you tell me how many chains I need to make for a pillow cover size 18x18 please
This would depend on the type of yarn you are using, your hook size and your personal tension. I suggest that you do a small swatch and you should then be able to work it out from there or keep chaining until you get to your desired size :)
what do you do when you have finished first seven tier?
All the information can be found on my blog at bellacococrochet.com, it will tell you everything that you need to know :)
nice
How do you keep your edges straight, I keep losing & gaining stitches 😂
Is there a picture of a finished blanket in this stitch?
Hi Jacqui I didn't do a full blanket I just did a swatch :)

Ritamay G no because you aren’t turning your work your are working from left to right with each row.
I have a question, does this curl for anyone else who’s done this pattern? I did a multiple of five for this and I’m making a throw with this. I’m loosened my tensions and went up to a 8mm hook and it’s still curling up. Is this normal for this or is there something I’m doing wrong?

I guess you could give it a try. x
I’ve been trying this pattern out because I want to make an Afghan. But for some reason the left side of my project keeps sloping? Is this normal? I’m not loosing any stitches, I always end up with the correct amount.
Bayle Aaron having this issue too, did you figure it out?? I need help 😬
Chance Ray No I’ve never been able to figure it out. The only thing I could do was add a border after the swatch was finished and that helped it some, but you can still see a slight slant. I’d like to have a written copy of this if possible

Hi, I'm noticing my work is beginning to slant to the right. I'm keeping count of my stitches and am following step by step. Why is my work slanting?
Is it possible you are working your double treble too tightly which would cause the piece to bunch slightly? I would try going up a hook size to see if that helps 😊
You say to do double crochet and I see you doing single crochet. Which is it?
It’s UK double crochet. In this US this is known as single crochet. Same stitch, different terminology x
Can I make this a blanket for a baby girl or boy
How do I keep the sides straight. The left side is flaring out?
Because you're working on one side of the work only you may find the piece slants to the left slightly, but you should find blocking at the end makes it less noticeable 😊
how much yarn would i need if i were to use a j sized needle
How do you keep the right edge straight ?with every 7 rows
As long as you are crocheting into the correct stitches you should find the edges stay reasonably straight 🙂
How do you do this if you aren’t changing colors that often
This stitch is always worked from right to left so even if you weren’t changing colours you would need to rejoin your yarn at the beginning of the row 😊
@@bellacococrochet thank you so very much
I had someone give me the url for this! It is my next project!
