Haha and believe it or not I basically shot, wrote and edited the whole thing by myself, not too bad for a geologist with no film training right haha?!?
Lovely land great location more trees then this California desert we are living within. My geology came in handy watching this video. Great shared video a total and clear understanding Nice layering. great tunnels, We seek gold nuggets in this exact same way only that gold is always nearest the bottom of the wash plant system. Wow a cutter is a high skill job, nice added bonus here as he shares his skills and vast knowledge. Heat treat for color enhancing nice to learn this. Great business model lesson here as well, they are beautiful varieties of stone they cut and polish. Thank you, Lance & Patrick.
Glad you liked it 😁. Haha yeah, there probably are a few more trees up in Rubyvale than the California desert, though droughts can still hit pretty hard there which can make using a sapphire wash plant like the one in the film a bit tricky at times. But it is definitely a beautiful part of Australia to visit 🙂
Looking at visiting the Gem Capital soon... Only live down the road... 700km away 😆 Done Glen Innes (NSW) a few times now and I highly recommend going there when you come back to the land down under 😊 let me know if you want more info New to it all and loved the mini doco. Appreciate your invested time and effort to make this possible, thanks 👍🏼
The Final Reveal Host: After an incredible journey spanning mines, sorting facilities, and design workshops, our sapphire has finally reached its destination-the moment of transformation into a breathtaking finished jewel
Hey Charles, what a great effort it must have been to create all of this, but hell was it worth it. You are such an interesting bloke, any way we can learn more about you, specificly your path of education? cheers!
Haha thanks, funnily enough I actually shot this with just me, my little GH5 camera (and mavic pro) and some help from the Brown family, in less than a day while on a different aid project (Australia Awards: Africa), so it was all a bit rushed but I managed some creative editing and seemed to pull it off well enough 😅. If you jump to the about us page on my website (www.lawsongems.com) you can read a bit about my background 🙂.
I live in America and go to the Smoky Mountains quite a bit and have found Ruby and sapphire, sometimes as a mixture but have never found some the the beautiful crystalline structure sapphire you show in this video. They appear opaque but do however fluoresce under u.v. light a bright pink or blue and have obvious " steps " present. Do they have a matrix covering them? Are they gem quality? I also have emerald in varying shades of green. Some crystalline and others almost blackish green in color attached to the more crystalline emerald. I have only cleaned them and keep them in a pretty bowl to admire. No one near me to validate them with the exception of a few lapidaries who say they are. All were found in the cold, clean, beautiful mountain streams and rivers. I just dig up as much gravel on top of bedrock and sift them into varying sizes. I have also found what I believe to be diamond in these rivers and streams because of the " glow " and refraction of light they make but some are stepped in flat sheets and others appear as clear river rock but that glow! I have used a diamond tester ( properly by weight and following the testers instructions) some ring up quite quickly while others only seem to have small quantity of diamond and ring up much more slowly, but this is diamond rough and I'm not sure a diamond tester is meant to test diamond rough. I do the " ice " test. Diamond is one of the best conductors of heat, if not the best, so I put a block of ice in a bowl, gently hold the rough onto the ice, not pushing at all and it appears the diamond rough transfers the heat from my fingers down from my fingers onto the ice and quickly melts the ice. In fact, as I hold the diamond to be tested, it is cold at first, then turns to my body temperature and it's as if I 'm holding nothing at all. As it quickly moves through the ice it begins to become cold once again as it touches bottom. I 've tested other silicates such as Quartz, amethyst and other gems that are not carbon based and they will eventually melt some ice but not completely nor as fast. I also found a fairly large block of dark green but translucent ( especially with a light behind it ) but not quite sure what this is. It also has gold flecks all over the back side. Could be Micha but dents when I press it with a fingernail. Micha usually flakes off. I wonder if the is a type of Jade? Also big, round garnets that I think is Rope Garnet. Sorry to drag on about other subjects other than sapphire but you know how women can droll on. Thanks for your time and have sure enjoyed this video. G'day mates and thanks again. 😉☺️😊
Sitting here drinking beer wearing a platinum ring with a 15 ct gold saphire won in a card game . My bet was 10 grand and the ring is worth about 3 times as much . This video is outstanding and thanks .
Mr. Charles Lawson I found this very educational and very very inviting I appreciate your video on your percent even though my last name is Dawson pretty close to Lawson but Mr Lawson I hope you have a great time and what you're doing and become successful at this I would sure like to shake your hand but all I can do is move my little finger sincerely TCB third son of Elvis Presley
I lived at Sapphire during the 80,s , a major problem we had back then was cutters, who didn’t give you back the same stone !? Excuses like they put it thru heat treatment, and it changed colours?? So we could only sell our stone uncut, wich meant lower prices! Wich made it not worth the efert! We called it drinking money! Just wondering if it’s worth going back to my old stomping grounds?? Where I know good stone, was pulled out in my time !??? I was a professional test hole driller for great northern mining on the Subura! Property, wich was owned by my mates Dad! I’ve done many test holes throughout the gem fields, I’m thinking of going back, now prices have gone up !,
What makes a parti sapphire ? I want to get rubyvale material and need to be able to choose the best parcel in my price range. Shpuld i get 10plus ct or parti or 7 ct ,one blue one teal, or a blue stone, a teal stone and a green stone....i dont remember the exact ct.weight but it was comparable. So what will get me the best turnover?
Hi, I am looking for a buyer for gemstone in Australia, specially in Sydney. I am planning to bring precious Ceylon gem stones to Australia in coming months...
A great place to start is with self schooling from all the free educational content online, but on top of that, if you are lucky enough to live near a lapidary club, they are often a great wealth of gemstone knowledge 😁.
@@Lawsongems thanks I’ll do that,I’m from Zambia home of the best emeralds I would like to work in such fields it’s just sad that we have know education resources but we have all the natural resources
This is actually close to the center of Rubyvale in the small scale mining lease area, the Capricorn mine is a bit further out where the yields are lower so more industry scale (or at least full mechanized mining) is allowed.
The overburden is a very firm material (as you can see by the amount of force necessary to break it up to bring it to the surface. That combined with a bit of structural engineering for the design of the tunnels makes it a very safe environment :)
I'd quite like to get into sapphire mining and processing but the idiots on the glockenspiel, digerydoo and bongos who follow you around everywhere would get on my nerves too much.

Best thing I heard was you only learn what a good quality sapphire is by cutting the stone yourself. This is also true about cut quality. 100%

Could you use blowers as they do in the opal mines?
I haven't heard of them really being used out there, the gravel might just be a bit to dense and heavy to make use of a blower.
Love this video way cool 💯🔥😎👍

I wonder if they find Opal while mining for gems
For a uninformed observer, it seems very risky to "rely" on the just the underground structure to hold the tunnel's integrity.
The overburden is a very firm material (as you can see by the amount of force necessary to break it up to bring it to the surface. That combined with a bit of structural engineering for the design of the tunnels makes it a very safe environment :)
