What IS a Minion? That was the question I started with when working on this theory. I wanted to REALLY understand these little guys, so I started searching the movies for information. Well Theorists, I found more that I expected buried in the Minions and Despicable Me movies. A LOT more. So much that I can definitely say that the Minions in the movies are NOT Minions. You'll have to watch to find out WHY!

What’s really impressive is that Gru has memorized the names of each and every Minion.
Probably only the original 230 but still impressive
ruclips.net/video/ONVDmaNCL5w/видео.html

Isnt that the same with some Pokémon players(like me)? Now that I think about it... Pokémon are very different in Design, which makes them more memoriz(e)able... and the Minions look like 50%-60% the same, so... the Behaviour has to play a major role for the recognition of an Minion
What's actually impressive is that Gru can tell them apart...

He says were all doomed but I know dang well that when Gru dies all these minions are going to serve Margo, Edith, and Agnes.
I'd watch that tv series, all 30+seasons of it
I mean, still, the fact is that the Minions are underratedly _terrifying; _ as MatPat pointed out, just _three_ out of 230 basically took over one of the most powerful nations on Earth, and a single rabid Minion could effortlessly tear through layers and layers of Gru's best security technology (the same technology that spawned thousands of those immortal Minion clones to begin with), El Macho genuinely could've ended the world if he had actually managed to sic those thousands of Purple Minions onto the world's cities and governments.

My film theory is that minions are the world's natural defense against evil however unwittingly. They’re naturally drawn to “evil” things and want to help them, but inevitably their help accidentally causes failure. Gru not being much a villain is what causes them to thrive with him.

@7:16 you are kind of wrong there. In the first movie when Kevin bob and Stuart were travelling in the boat to New York, (The part where Stuart imagined Kevin and bob as bananas and tried eating them), Stuarts(Or another minions I kind of forgot sorry) stomach rumbled. And clearly bob pointed to his mouth in a way of asking food. So we can say that the minions do need food. Why did the "space minion" survive weeks without food and start Kevin and bob started hallucinating after a few day? - Well that is possibly just a mistake in the movie. OR
I have another theory-
The minions which you told were cloned CAN survive harsh conditions with no food but the original minions like Kevin bob and Stuart clearly cant.

Matpat : SOME MINIONS AREN’T MINIONS!
Me: DANG IT, THE GAME WAS SET TO HAVE MORE THEN ONE IMPOSTER
The minions are a hit or miss though. Gru used them as henchmen successfully, but every one of their leaders in the past, the french, dracula, dinosaurs, etc faced their doom because the minions are clumsy and mess up. That kind of balances them out.
A record like that is not hit or miss. Almost everyone that the Minions have worked for has died horribly and their evil legacy was usually so thoroughly snuffed out that many of their former masters are thought to only be legends. The Minions seem to be evolution's way of fighting evil like a retrovirus.
The only reason that Gru (It's always hilarious that no one gets the joke behind his name) is not feeding worms right now stems from him not actually being evil. Gru does lots of despicable things, but he's mostly just a really smart guy who has grown too frustrated with society to 'people' today. Admittedly he does a lot of things that have a fantastic potential for being incredibly bad, but nothing ever comes of it.
Arguably the most notably terrible things he does are turning humans into Minions and trying to use kids to advance an evil agenda. The latter turns out to be a catalyst that eventually transformers him into a hero. The former is unquestionably tearing apart lives and families, but in doing so Gru expanded the greatest threat to the existence of Evil by fifty fold. That seems like a morally grey area to me, but hey that's just my opinion. My film opinion.
@@getonthelist5620 What is the joke behind Gru’s name? The only lead I could find was IMDB mentioning it comes from the Russian military intelligence agency, the G.R.U. which uh, isn’t much of a joke. Maybe I’ll never know…
@@CaptainDecimus have you considered what it means that you had to look up the G.R.U. to know what it was? Everybody in the world knows about the F.B.I., C.I.A., K.G.B. and MI agencies. The G.R.U. runs parallel to the K.G.B. and a lot of Russian people don't even know about it. They are almost as esoteric as the MSS. It may not amuse you that two people that clearly have high-level covert training named their kids after one of the most undercover of agencies and a German 'research' facility. It is funny as heck to me though.
@@getonthelist5620 I’ve heard of the G.R.U before, the piece of the puzzle I was missing must’ve been that I have no idea who Gru’s parents are. If they’re spies or something, fair enough. Still not the funniest joke in the world to me, but like you said, that’s what makes it a spy joke.
@@CaptainDecimus a sapphire is a sapphire. Your inability to appreciate it doesn't make it a completely meaningless rock to everyone else. Thank you for your insights on the quality of my wit, but you might have a more positive impact on the world if you tried making your own jokes instead of trying to improve mine.

Woah.😳
Matpat will now be arrested for kidnapping a minion
And they went to matpat because he was super evil
Maybe gru used the tattoo on the back of hitman's head but can only be noticed by scanning them or using UV flashlights maybe that is how he memorized the original from the fake
What's neat is that in the third movie we see exactly what MatPat is talking about at the end of the video. The minions, despite still having strong attachments to Gru, can't resist running away with his brother Drew to go cause havoc. Luckily it does seem like some of the minions formed meaningful relationships besides just having an evil master. Dave and Jerry for instance stayed with Gru throughout the film when the other minions all quit to find new jobs. It shows that the minions don't neccessesarily have to serve an evil master but under the right conditions can learn to follow whoever they want. They'll still have that primal urge to cause mischief, but as with humans they may be starting to learn how to control those urges to a degree and find happiness in other parts of life.

Kevin, Stuart and Bob probably would've stayed with Gru too if they were in the movie.

to be fair, when I had first watched the original movie when it came out, it sort of felt implied that they were all genetically made by Gru. That blue-print you see in the first movie, sort of confirms that for me. I think it is as always just a continuity error they made, when making a prequel. They had to change the original idea to provide a more interesting story.
Ye I always just assumed he made them.
@@TheUnderscore_ I read a magazine when the first movie came out and it described minions as Gru’s creation from corn kernels, so I think it’s just a retcon that worked out
Before The Minions movie came out I always thought that Dr. Nfario made them, because in the first movie when one of the girls asks Gru what are they he looks at Nefario before reaponding they are his cousins. My theory is Gru discovers the minions and joins forces with Nefario who begins to clone them in order to form the army needed to commit his crimes(even though for his moon heist, Gru is the only one who even goes to space and the minions are just the labor force that made the rocket). Film theory said basicaly the same thing as what I said adding that thats the reason Gru treats a few minions better than the others
It was for a toy for the gorls you see it in number 2
Wow you guys see minions being sus but you don't pay attention to everything else in the movies just wow

The best part of ALL the movies was Gru kissing the Minions at the end of the first movie. When the one Minion comes around for a second kiss, Gru catches him at it and passes him along, he just laughs and runs along. For some reason, I adore this scene. Nothing but sweetness!

People call me a bean because I'm Mexican
My heart literally melted.

You left out the fact that in the first despicable me when a minion fell or got punched it was a robot sound it was like a clank noise
This is the single most terrifying film theory on this channel.
Isn't it great when he's ruining his kid's childhood?
I didn't even know it needed to be Film-Theoried, since the movies made it clear that Gru made the Minions. Once you learn that there was an original, smaller group, cloning is the obvious answer.
wasn't there something about toads being a zombie apocalypse controlled by peach?
Cannibalism in wall-e?

Uhhh no, I think you'll find the creator of the Minions is infact Dan Povenmire 😌

Only MatPat takes a simple punchline in a kids movie like a Minion stuck in the orbit for a week and analizes it to make an entire theory that Minions are replica robots, gotta applause your dedication, buddy 👏

You should look up the theorizer. That guy can take anythint and make it seem like the charecter is an evil god
He took a FART joke as a plot point
I don’t they are robots due to how they stretch
You gotta appreciate the fact the film writers made sure the original Minions were in isolation during the early-to-mid 1900's, just to avoid them meeting with a certain "You-Know-Who".
Aaahh you must mean Winston Churchill
@@michaelgibson413 Voldemort!
Exactly.
There are plenty of mustached men from that time that could fill in the blank.
I would love to see a movie about that.
I'm loving the Ollie-inspired content on this channel nowadays, he's giving the people what they want
fun fact: all of Gru's 10,400 minions have a unique design; props to the animation team
also, one of the cutest part of the franchise was when Bob the Minon became the king of England
That was adorable lol

I loved the part when Bob gives a whole darn speech in minionese and then nobody understands 🤣

Considering how the minions got easily kidnapped from the main antagonist in the sequel. I’d think a bunch of men with guns could
@@auhsojacosta1672
That's because Dr. Nefario kidnapped them, he knew them and so would know their weakness and also he kept them in paradise until mutating them.
Just get Dr. Bright and his Chainsaw-Cannon
SCP can actually employ them to help operate the holding facilities. Only have a rotating set of humans to make sure they don’t go rogue themselves.
I love how in the movie minion have to go into hiding after Napoleon, or else they will probably have to draw minion in SS uniform
Lmao ngl this made me physically laugh, 😂
I guess the filmakers don't want to have the minions to be complicit in the holocaust.
Yikes! 😬 True!
@TheGermanDuck what if adolf had some minions in his bunker, and one of them found a gun?
Oop
If you get cloned that clone is still you so the minion clones are still minions and if something gets turned into a minion then they are a minion
My theory is that the minions are actually destroyers of evil, mostly because every evil master they've served has died (usually as a direct result of their actions) until they serve Gru. This is probably because he is actually a good guy, who just attracted the minions because he acts evil a lot.
hmm it actually make sense
I think this makes sense! They also really don't act evil in the Despicable Me movies, and you'd think when Gru became good they would have left him if they actually had evil intentions
I feel like he came up when this when he was forced to watch minion movies with Ollie

Breaking news a child became the happiest thing in the universe after He got a Minion Inflatable
But a perfect genetic clone of a minion would just be another minion. When Dolly the sheep was cloned the result was another sheep. If it looks like a minion, talks like a minion, is indestructible like a minion, and farts like a minion, then it's probably because it's a minion
Not necessarily. The creation process is different. Dolly was an egg with DNA implanted in it, then birthed and grew up. Minion cloning here is just a "cloned minion" spawning, they hadn't been created as an actual minion would have therefore not being an actual minion.
The video didn’t talk about clones, it talked about design
it's a minion, it's just not one of the 230 original minions
