You will definitely need a thermometer. otherwise you'll fail.

I could feel the frustration through the video - most frantic "peaceful" stirring ever. Just made me giggle though :)

Why did I think it was butter mixed with maple??!! Lol
That's also a thing! There's maple flavored butter, and then there's the maple butter here that's also known as creamed maple syrup :)
Mustikka suomi perkele
You're telling me it isn't?
It's confusing for sure! A lot of things can be buttered, like fruit butters (apple butter, fig butter, etc.) and nut butters, where they don't actually add any real butter. It's most commonly cooked using the nut or fruit itself I think, without pectin (found in jams), and are called butters because of its spreadability (like, how creamy and easy it spreads).
q u i e t l y Yes! It's super popular in the US. Best ones come from roadside or country stores. I remember I took a friend out to Louray caverns for a day trip and all he wanted as souveniers were apple, pear and fig butters from the souvenier shop.

you make us French Canadians from Québec proud with this one! Our Grandmothers made this, and maple fudge, and another type of sweet called "Sucre à la crème" which sadly is impossible to make a vegan version of. No one makes maple butter anymore because it's so difficult to make. I'm 41 and most of my generation wasn't taught how to make this stuff. Bravo! for showing the world our 400 year old tradition!
@@kgaoletsaDNA0 yep on bread and it's delicious!!!
My grandmere made "Sucre à la crème" for us when we were kids. It was sooooo good on white bread. But sadly, no one in the family can replicate it so that it taste's like hers, even though as adults she would show us how she made it. We even used the same dish that she used! I should start trying again.

Keep heating the failed one. It will become maple sugar!
Rainalot I have a failed batch.. mine came out all clumpy kinda like soft candy
joedmac78 in Canada we go to the sugar shack (where they grow and make the syrup), heat it up and pour it on snow to eat it like a chewy candy. It's so good!!!

Man, I can smell the warm maple syrup just watching the video!
I'm from Québec, where 75% of the world maple syrup is made, and every year in the spring we go to the "sugar shack" (cabane à sucre), that are basically in a maple tree forest, to eat traditional food drowned in maple syrup!
The best butter in my opinion is the one slightly creamier (where you said "you can stop at this point". It's great just by the spoonfull! You could also stop at 4min and you get maple taffee (tire d'érable), which we actually pour on snow and eat like a lollipop.
Thanks for that video!! I hope you still ate the failure :D xx

Aryane HB I wanna go to that sugar shack! 🤗

I know I'm years late, but a quick tip: when using a thermometer, try not to let it touch the bottom of the pot/pan, otherwise it records the temperature of the pot and not the ingredients inside it. Anyway, love all of your videos, and the lifestyle you live looks amazing. My dream is to be as happy, peaceful and content as you are!
This would be great to put on hot waffles or pancakes. Spreads like butter tastes like syrup. Win win.

the required temperature is the same I think. just you don't have to heat it for 15 minutes. it should be dane within 5 minutes or so. and now I'm thinking about how I use this butter. lol
On a nice piece of toast is perfect. Or pancakes, or a bagel....mmmm reminds me of my visit to French Canada
Use it like a breakfast spread :3

+Peaceful Cuisine How about putting a little in some oatmeal or other grain dish, with dried fruits and nuts, and maybe a bit of soy milk or almond milk. It would make a nice warm breakfast porridge.

Nice video. At first I thought it was going to be maple syrup mixed with butter. Then, when you were stirring it I thought "um, it's just cooked maple syrup". And then, "after 15 minutes" of stirring I was like "What?! Whoa! How did that happen?!" LOL
Chemistry is awesome. haha :)
If you're not failing - you're not pushing forward. Great video!

with the failed ones all you need to do is rehydrate the crystals and turn it back into syrup. Then..., try again. boil water and slowly add the crystals to the water not the other way around or you will scorch the syrup. once you get the hang of making that maple butter, it's like riding a bike. easy and you wont forget.
I'm guessing how ever much you need to get it to the original form....so just slowly add it and mix it in
thats right
Omg! This had me cracking up! I’m glad you tested out the recipe! Maple syrup is expensive! Love your videos! You’re a culinary genius!

I love how your videos are so much fun and at the same time, with headphones, they put me to sleep. When I was a kid on the weekends, I would wake up super early at my grandmothers house and she would be making coffee/tea and breakfast. There was no talking. I would snooze on the couch listening to it. Unfortunately she passed away a few years ago, but you have brought those same feelings and memories back with your videos so thank you!

FYI, you can use this same process to make other stuff. If you boil the syrup to the hard ball stage you can pull it into a maple taffy. If you boil to the hard crack phase you can make maple hard candy, or pull it into a "whipped" hard candy.
Haha it's funny and it taught me I definitely need a thermometer. lol
