I disagree MoxMan. I think this set was an absolute steal in terms of value. Nadu, Emrakul, Ulamog so many good hits. Sales are low because another set was just released and everyone that wanted MH-3 already has it. I can tell you that I've made money on my collector box. Congrats on reaching 23K.

Facts! This is a great money set ! I've gotten 8 boosters ,only had one box that broke even and the rest all hit upwards of double the value of the box, straight gold 👌 from opening to selling within 24 hours ! Awesome set one of my favorites personally 😅😅

Yeah, but that isn't everyone. I promise just as you are saying my boxes did great, there is an equal amount saying they barely got any good pulls.
@nwtcg7739 with the fetch lands in these which I averaged 5 per box (some I pulled 8 per box and my worse box was 4 fetches, but almost doubled the price per box except the one that broke even. This is after 10 collector boxes BTW, it's not just one or 2.
The thing is that players need the cards from this set to play the new rotation into modern and legacy. So it will continue to be opened for those key pieces

I agree. I shouldn't be paying $400 for a Collector box. It's ridiculous. I don't like buying Play boxes either because I don't want that many cards.
600$ is absolutely insane for a box of cards. They are just preying off addicts at this point. Hard to believe a single box of cards will ever entertain me more than 7 or 8 brand new AAA video games 🙈
@starchaser6024 Well that's the thing though, I actually have fun opening Magic and Pokémon packs. But when it costs over $300 it's unaffordable for me. I bought 1 collector box of MH3 for $440 bucks and I can't do that again. I basically need to save up for the Death Race set in February because I'm really looking forward to it.

I disagree, I saw hordes of boxes being opened on Whatnot and pack after pack saw banger after banger. I myself pulled my first serialized card. Even putting the serialized card aside, the bangers i got on top of that, paid off the box completely.

On paper that's a cool sentence but people are already stating that since nobody is opening packs, ( shocker) there's less single to buy at the mid tier , they're are like 50 cards I want that are either too expensive or sold out on TCG/CK /LGS

I've bought a few singles less than $25 on MH3 for commander decks. Most of my budget goes to vintage Era cards now.

@MTGMOXMAN only reason I don't buy old boxes is I do end up cracking them. And that was a OG block draft 2x ice age and 1 alliances like my lgs did in the day. Some old folks draft during the post covid crash

I think MH3 and Bloomburrow are straight home run level execution of WOTC with their products. These sets will do fine. I'm just a little worried about the intense power creep we are experiencing. I mean with the way its going, in 2 years an instant costing one blue mana will counter a spell, summon a 2/2 flyer and draw you 3 cards. I am exaggerating of course but this is how it feels to me. I do expect wizards to be on top of their game though, they engineer their product and plan things out way ahead in time. The suckiest suck part is that the parent company will expect mh3 and bloomburrow sales to be the new normal now and topped in 2025. thats intense pressure on wotc. however if macroeconomics in the society as whole improve, wizards is going to do beautifully.
IMO and hindsight being 20/20, MH3’s mythics and rates power level is the same as MH2’s. (It didn’t surpass it by a lot.)
MH3’s uncommons and some commons have blown MH2’s uncommons and commons out of the water.
Welcome to the new round of Modern! Every MH-set brings, nay forces, rotation as it brings so many strictly better cards than those before. I'd say most Modern players already got their stuff and get bored as it seems all about Nadu currently. For several more weeks at least as WotC refused to ban it yet. Commander players usually get the singles to upgrade so no need to buy many boxes there either.

I think having no breathing room between set releases affects the numbers, when there’s to much food on the table, there’s bound to be waste. I still want another box of MH3 🤤
Universe beyond cards like the secret lairs from Tomb Raider, Dr Who aren't that easy to reprint because WotC has to pay for the IP again which they probably won't. those are good cheaper alternatives to Reserve List investing... but yeah reprinting has made me spend way less than I used, also I live in a country where mtg offer is very high in between grey market and LGS while demand is not that high, since like you say almost no one wants to buy cards at price point.
I personally have a Dr Who commander deck, am very close to finish my Missy and Lara Croft decks and will probably call it a MTG life after that, maybe on the road will buy the Final Fantasy cards like I did with the AC cards but my yearly budget for MTG will not exceed 500 CAD (10 years ago my mtg budget used to be around 2-3k CAD a year for reference)
Got an NM etched Nadu for 8$ shipped😍 as I exclusively play cEDH, I don't fear a ban as much as modern players anyway
I said since before release MH3 won’t sell like MH2. MH3 had insane EV at release. We’re around the 8 week release low. With even a modest rebound around 3 months out EV will be very good and we’ll see if they put out a reprint.
Biggest miss on my part this set was not grabbing ocelot playset sooner. Im sure im not alone

After the announcement of the precons, I’ve been calling it Commander Horizons 3 lol
I played on Arena and won an MH3 box. Probably spent what I would have on a box overall, but enjoyed this way of getting the product more. Value wise I’ve been picking up Secret Lairs and prefer that as smaller more targeted purchases than collectors boxes.
price ceilings exist. One box is 100 bucks and likely to return between 70 and 150 in value. Another box is 300 and expected to return 210 to 450. As a percentage, the loss and gain is the same. But as a consumer, losing 30 dollars vs 70 dollars is not the same. And spending 100 dollars at a time vs 300 dollars at a time is not the same either.
There's a reason lottery tickets are cheap. If you want them to move, they need to priced so poor people can pick them up.
Modern will keep being opened. But I think most of it will be by stores selling singles.
i never understood how stores make any money doing this? the EV of the packs is like 20% of the retail value lmao
@zeusjukem9484 It's ruff, but opening at distribution pricing then charging an in store premium on singles does work if you have customer base that buys singles. Honestly I think most of time stores are breaking even and hoping you buy some pretzels or chips while playing so the store can make some money.
My LGS is notorious for overpriced packs, and my target has huge selections of magic all the time.
LGS is perpetually out of MH3 a day or two after, and the target gets raided couple times a week.
MH3 isnt just a firesale of value, the prices are high because demand is still high and the packs are loaded. As soon as people gobble up cheap bloomburrow and have what they want, MH3 will go back to even higher demand.
Hold your sealed product finance bros, MH3 will just spike, IMO.
It was an expensive set but good lord are there a ton of staples in it now. This set completely rotated an entire format on its own. Its had a ton of impact on legacy and edh as well. The landscape cycle are some of the best 3 color common lands ever printed. And you can even open the mh2 elementals. Plus psychic frog is bae. But yes smart players already have the singles they need and we are saving up for the next cash grab set hasbro wotc churns out lol. Love the content and great video

If you look at the prices of retro foil fetch lands, they keep on rising. It is getting harder and harder to get them at low price. Though the other singles, particularly the myth is are getting cheaper. The idea is that thprices of singles vary, you can’t say the set is poor because of that. That said I have little to no interest on their other sets releasing in upcoming months.
Great video! Though I dont agree with saying „it‘s not worth that kind of money“ which is completely ignoring how markets work: they‘re expensive because people pay(ed) that much for them in the demand and the singles calculations back it up. I think MH3 sealed collector boxes were (if you got them for 350$ or less) one of the best long-term investments of all sets coming out in 2024. But Mox Man, you are 100% right in saying that this release cycle, and the pricing both foster unobtainable card prices for certain singles, which end up in folders or displays, and it‘s all cards which are not being played. I dont like that WotC is pushing this game to what Pokemon seems to be: a collector rather than a player-focussed card game. It‘s too fast and thus too expensive.
Because of the absurd price of boxes im very happy with the singles prices,i was really expecting higher prices on the singles.

I spent a lot on MH3 probably the most sealed I’ve ever bought and I made money on every pack I bought. (EV) I pulled so many fetch lands and that’s all I wanted I pulled over 50 fetches. Yes the price isn’t all that rn for the singles but they will rebound. The fetches in MH2 are on their way back up. But I loved the set and I enjoyed it so much!!
MH3 simply put is one of the greatest sets in Magic's history.
It's all about the money. I would love to engage with these products more, but it's not worth thousands a year for me to play.

I felt like I lost money on this set for sure. Even with the commander decks. I can't say for sure, but it almost feels like it's harder to pull really good stuff with this set. For a premium set I felt it was much the opposite.

Modern season is just about to start and a lot of players are waiting for a Nadu ban before spending money on a deck. We can’t clearly see the meta with Nadu messing everything up.

I just want to remind people if you didnt sell the cards you pulled from your box/boxes you didnt make money my friend bragged about how much money he makes off each box only to complain after prerelease that the prices dropped and the cards he was bragging about lost so much value same thing with ravnica remastered got a collector box got a serialized shockland and by the time he sold it he only made 60 bucks because nobody wanted it nor was the number on the card a culturally relevant one every set i tell him the same thing and he keeps buying collector boxes and keeps losing money some people just neveer learn i made a spread sheet of how much money he spent on boxes vs the price of the singles he wanted during prerelease after and when the next set comes out i keep telling him to wait and buy singles hes really mad at me because his girlfriend found the spread sheet and how much money he is losing because he needs to buy the stuff now and cant wait lol

I like MH3 but I like bloomburrow more... the market is just too saturated with decent new stuff. I will play MH3 in draft, that's fun but why collect? I don't think it'll sit there forever but why rush it right now? You have great points but there's too many necessary cards for it to stay at that price. In two years the fetches will start to go back up and those boxes will dissapear.

Most disappointing set ever! I was so hyped but the pulls were so poor. Bought 2 bundles; both were crap. The 'Flare' cycle had mythic pull rates. Top class uncommons like 'Fell the profane' had rare level pull rates. Crap rares were in abundance. You cannot do that expensive premium sets.
COLLECTIBLE cards aren't meant to be played with. If I spend $100 on a card I expect it to hold some value.
Why would you buy a game piece you don't intend to play the game with? Collectible is just a vague marketing term for something you can spend your money on.
@@D0012D13 Because there's a lot to enjoy from the cards. The art, the collectible aspect, or as we saw with the SLD, iconic collaborations that collectors love.
The game itself got way too annoying. Not everyone wants to read 50 paragraphs on a card and think about if I have X and it activates after Y, but my Artifact's condition says W and my commander's ability says Z and you played .... yeah such a fun game
@filipealmeida7301 what does is collectible aspect even mean to you. You can buy it? If you appreciate the art, why would you want it about the size of a postage stamp? Especially if it's just on a crummy game piece with a wall of text from an annoying game.

Completely disagree, and here's where your lack of modern meta knowledge hurts your reasoning. It's the summer of Nadu and as a result everyone is playing that deck as nsdu is so dominant. Peoople are either playing it or waiting for nadu to be banned. Once the ban occurs, the entire meta will shift, and cards that are devalued will increase in conjunction with sales once those new decks emerge. That's most likely going to occur on August 26th with the next ban hammer. If anything, buy now while prices remain low and before the spike. Congrats on 23k
