It's even more relevant now. It's incredible how well this fits into today's society. It's powerful and so meaningful.

Not a big fan of this guitar solo, but the viewer who said the first lick was the solo had me laughing when he hasn't heard the actual solo. I was hoping to see his head explode

I was a young black kid watching this video when it came out and then got into metal and guitar playing and experimenting with heavy rock and metal and still do to this day.
The guitarists name is Vernon Reid. Very talented man and underrated guitarist and should've had way more exposure

Loved them back in the day when this came out. Got to see them again a couple years age in Ft Myers, Florida and while Corey Glover doesn't have all that hair any longer he still has that voice. 💯🔥🤙

This was the first rock song I fell in love with. Before that it was all hip hop and rap for me, but as soon as this song came on my television I was instantly hooked. Favorite band ever since.
The members of this band currently are guitarist Vernon Reid, lead vocalist Corey Glover, drummer Will Calhoun and bassist Doug Wimbish (who replaced Muzz Skillings in 1992). They are no longer as big as they used to be, but they're still out there and damn if they're not worth hunting down and listening to.
These guys rocked in ‘89 and they still rock now.

Since you have arrived at the Living Colour train, I think the next one for you to check out should be "Funny Vibe". It's got much more funk in it, yet is still rocks hard, and it's from the same album as "Cult of Personality" (their first album).

The entire album is a masterpiece. They opened for the Rolling Stones during the Steel Wheels tour in 1990.
I *LOVE* the Stones. I bought that ticket, however, to see Living Color. Important, transformative music.

This song came out in 1988. If you are familiar with current rock at the time, these guys were vastly different. To me ahead of their time. Good song pick.
One of those songs that not only never gets old, but gets better with age. It STILL sounds groundbreaking.
Some good songs by Living Colour to follow up with: Type, Leave it Alone, This is the Life (2020 version ), Glamour Boys, Love Rears It’s Ugly Head, Wall, Flying, Auslander.
Living Colour were not ahead of their time. They were RIGHT ON TIME. Bands like Bad Brains and Fishbone had already paved the way. It's just that not enough people were paying attention.
This was club music when I was doing that whole thang.

They are still touring! The guitarist is buds with the guitarist of Rage Against the Machine, whose an awesome black guitarist as well. This is from 88. The guitarist nickname is 'burnin Vernon'.

@gandalf8216 My bad. He looked dark to me in the photo I saw. I don't listen to much Rage. Obviously, his Irish isn't dominant cause us Irish are as pale as all get out. But I can see how Italion would make him a tad dark. Either way, both are great guitarists.
I had to have the Vernon Reid tone…….I didn’t want it, I NEEDED it! Got it with a Steinberger with an onboard jackson je1200 mid boost. Ran it through my 2 jcm800s set up geddy lee style…in stereo. Marshall A/b preamp, Dod superdistortion, electroharmonix big muff sounded great as well, a little chorus and pog at noon. Slight flange…..you’ll be close……….oh yeah,, your Marshall’s must be capable of going to “11” on the gain.
I saw them in Atlanta in 1989/1990, when I was in college there. You see the clip of nearly ALL WHITE KIDS at their show? Truth. They were an AMAZING band.
Phenomenal song and they speak the truth, perhaps it was for that reason they never made it big. This song was actually in the playlist for GTA san andreas so that's how I first heard it

I believe it's Vernon Reid on guitar. I was 13 when my dad bought me this tape for my walkman and I still love it! Came out in 89? I think? Album is called Vivid.
Drums kicked A$$. Guitars kicked A$$. Lead singer kicked serious A$$. Lyrics- next level. head banging while speaking truth to power. Lyrics mean as much today as they did then, maybe more. Politicians making sure no one is happy, while making a lot of money themselves, and taking us from one war right into the next. I was around in the 80s when rock/metal was kind of in a hole, then GnR and Living Colour came out. Someone needs to explain to me why Living Colour wasn't a lot bigger for a lot longer. I don't get it.
“You gave me fortune, you gave me fame, you gave me power in your gods name. I’m every person, you need to be…”. Tell me who that sounds like? Maybe a certain president that dooped everyone into awful business ventures that made him millions, maybe the president that has fooled people into thinking of him as the second coming, that they worship him, giving him power in their gods name. This song was decades ahead of its time.

This band is extremely underrated, but they do play the mess outta them instruments and I love the message
