Tip use 20 pd braid on spinning rod. Size 5 wide gap bass hook. Hook the bluegill Behind the dorsal fin but not down in the lateral line or it will die. Also get a lighted round bobber that has the rattle in it. Put the bobber about a foot and a half up from the hook. I fish this way when I'm getting kids interested in fishing. Once they hook a big bass there hooked for life. Get some pictures and put them back. Hope this helps and good luck.

I’m cracking up at how complicated you made catching bluegill 😀 Git you a topwater fly, dibble it around, and you’ll catch more of them than you could fit in your bucket!

    • @KermitTheGamer21

Bluegill are insane, they'll eat anything. There's a mini golf course near me that has tons of bluegill stocked in a little pond it has, and as a kid I would always ask if they had any moldy or stale hot dog buns to feed the bluegill. They would come up to those little shreds of bun in packs of 30 and go into an all-out frenzy over it.
When I'm fishing now I've caught them on nightcrawler, waxworm, leech, even pieces of corn. Heck, I've caught a few with a bare hook! Bluegill will take anything.

Looked like a pretty fun day. Yest I was fishing and saw a bass guarding some fry over 10. He would not hit any thing I put near those fry. Just chase lures. I should have remembered this old trick. Catching a small gills and putting it out there.. But you reminded me. Hopefully he's still guarding those babies tomorrow. My biggest this year has only been 7.2. Though for Missouri that's not roo shabby. Good fishing. Fish on and keep doing what ya love. 👌👍😊

Small white grub worms put trophy bass on by procure and big blue gill will eat it. Use size 1 baitholder hooks with 6 inch leader. Gently press by gill of blue gill put baitholder hook through the top lip bass will eat it. You can also cut 1/8" slices cut corners of strips of bluegill strip so strips dont spin an twist your line. Hook strip through top end of rounded strip clean hook tip after baiting the hook from scales. Bass or catfish will eat bluegill strips. You can use a bottom rig with a baitholder and 2 moderate size split shots above where you tie 6 inch leader with size 1 baitholder hook. Put splitshots no more than 6 inches above where you tie leader to main line. Or you can use baitholder with leader tied to main line. Measure 12 inches above where you tie leader to main line so the bluegill strip suspending occasionally pop rod tip. Let it sit 3 to 7 seconds then reel slowly a 1/4 turn. Let it sit 3 to 7 seconds pop rod and continue. Pop rod tip a few times pause in between then 1/4 turn reel. The strips will look like small baitfish 😊

I used to catch my own dace minnows up here in MA and go to a pond and fish with them there. Iveused bluegill the size you are using also and works almost just as well, just takes a little longer sometimes for a monster to come grab it. I caught a 2.5 to 3 foot long PICKREL with a minnow there before. It was right at the shore almost too next to a little canal. It was insane I miss those days I need to get back fishing

I always catch Hawgs on live bream. But my biggest was actually caught on a Scuppernong Utale Texas rigged. It was 12.3lbs and I thought it was a catfish until she jumped out the water and my heart started beating like a drum. Just this past Sunday my GF caught a 8lb bass on a palm size bluegill. We decided to mount it because her PB was like 2lbs. Her stomach was bruised by the pole where she was fighting the fish lol. Just a quick tip when using live bream I like to use swivels and saltwater bobbers. I don’t care to free line bait with braid because a lot of times bass hit the bait and run to brush and get hung up. So I put the bobber on and drop the bait about a foot and a half under the bobber and cast out towards the middle of the pond. Keep your bail open or you’ll have your rod pulled in like I did when I was a teenager.

  • @tylervanplew9924

to catch bluegills easy all you need is a misquote hook. It’s gonna be maybe even half the size of the hook you were using. I usually just tip mine with a tiny piece of plastic on the very edge of the hook. It’s pretty much one fish after another lol. also I would hook the bluegills through the mouth instead of the dorsal fin (they live longer).

Easiest technique in the world to catch bream, bluegill, etc, is very simple. Use a typical Zebco 33 with light line. No weight. No bobber. Just a VERY small hook, baited with a VERY small piece of earthworm or night crawler. Yes I know, it will be VERY light. That's why you can't use a bait cast reel. Just cast it as far as a hooked worm will take the line. Let it hit the water, and fall. When your line twitches, (or takes off) set the hook.
