- Welcome back to the Bio Dude's RUclips channel. Many of you must remember our 3 legged Blue Tongue. Lt. Dan was living in a 4' x 2' x 2', but we felt at the Bio Dude this 3 legged monster needed more space. He is always moving, burrowing and using every inch of his enclosure. So, we have decided to go with this beautiful 60' x 24' x 24' Bio Dude KAGES enclosure. We just LOVE how this turned out and how beautiful this KAGE is. Mariah and I go over how we are expecting the heating to function for proper microclimates while keeping the soil at the optimum moisture levels for optimal performance. We also discuss his diet, activity and other aspects of his care and overall habitat maintenance.
With a hearty mixture of existing substrate with new, we were able to transfer lots of existing pieces from his old terrarium to jumpstart his new habitat. Here is a list of components used to complete this build:

I just set up a bioactive enclosure for my Northern BTS, using The Bio Dude's kit, and she loves it so much. It's so much fun to see them explore a natural habitat. Love the Terra Firma substrate.
Makes me happy to hear that, thank you for sharing and your support!
Very beautiful setup. Very good job.
Thank you for your appreciation!
Thanks for the Video loved it, you both are awesome at what you do keep it going.
Glad you enjoyed it! thank you!!
Wow yall did a awesome job !!!!
Thank you!
Thank you for this video! It was incredibly informative and easy to follow. I've been wondering, do you guys have a tutorial on how to build a waterfall in one of your guys' PVC enclosures? I ordered some materials necessary to make a waterfall from you guys and I think it would be cool to see a video on how to set one up with the items from your website. :)
Hey there! currently no we do not have a waterfall video however that is a great idea, thank you! we would not suggest doing one inside of a PVC due to the high water and humidity levels it would bring, being too much. Let us know if you have any further questions!
I think I’m in love with Mariah, but great content as always!
I love to do a bioactive setup for my corn snakes they’re both 20 years old or 21 they’re both have their own terrarium 36x18x18
Hey David! Currently the corn snake kit we have is sold out however the care team can get you set up with a custom invoice with the Dudes Terra Firma kit, please send an email with your information so we can get you set up! Customercare@thebiodude.com
where can i get huge cork rounds like the one in the middle? would love some for my tegu
She is beautiful
She looks super mean. Like to the degree that I'd be willing to bet that she is. She also does not like being talked over lmao.
Sorry if this sounds silly but at the reptile shop I go to, I’m a month in having a BTS….last week I was told to dump all the substrate and replace it once every few weeks or when it starts to stink, replace the whole lot. I spot clean every day. Are they just trying to sell me the substrate? How do you guys spot clean a set up like that? Looks difficult to clean. Awesome clip, thanks 🙏🏼
i wish i could find cork bark like this local but all i ever get in the stores are flat left overs lol
😍😍😍😍😍
How come that a crested gecko needs to have a drainage layer and substrate barriers and etc but this one does not? Aren’t the plants going to drown in water if the humidity should be 80-100%? 😯
These reptiles love to dig underground burrows for shelter and would just find a way through the substrate barriers. Unlike a crested gecko who are a climbing species.
And as for plants it just depends on the plants. Some plants would work great in a setup like in the video, others not so much.
This is exactly what I have been looking for. I've always wanted to try doing a bioactive enclosure for my skink. This may be a dumb question, but how much cleanup should we as keepers maintain? Specifically with shedding, is that something that should be cleared out by hand or will it break down eventually?
Good morning! the shedding is a good source of nutrients for the clean up crew, they will take care of it for you. spot cleaning may need to be done every now and then, but for the most part the clean up crew does the cleaning. this blog should help answer any other questions you may have, hope it helps! www.thebiodude.com/blogs/how-do-i-create-a-bioactive-vivarium/what-should-i-expect-as-my-bioactive-terrarium-progresses
would tera firma work for northern bts? or just because shipping is so high where im at could i mix reptisoil with natural fine sand and moss and add bio shots from the bio dude? trying to hold about 45% humidity
Getting ready to upgrade my bearded dragons enclosure from a 40 gallon breader to a 120 gallon I already plan on getting your Terra Sahara kit plus there are some local organic plant growers that I'm getting live plants for the enclosure what els might you put in there
Hey Charles! So awesome that you are giving him such a large space for activities! We suggest www.thebiodude.com/collections/reptile-cork-bark , we can get you quoted for large pieces through the care team, customercare@thebiodude.com
This video is so informative! This might be a dumb question but I’m a newbie lol: I’m thinking of getting a northern blue tongue- do you recommend buying an adult or a baby(I mean not fully grown) skink because the prices vary for age and I’m wondering if there’s a reason?
No such thing as a dumb question, we are happy to help answer. The decision between getting an adult or a baby skink depends on your personal preferences, experience level, and available resources. If you are interested in forming a strong bond with your pet and enjoy the process of socializing and handling, a baby skink might be a better choice. Raising a skink from a young age allows you to establish trust and build a relationship over time.
Do beardies bio active enclosure again pls🙌🏻
We need an update!
Hey hey! We are working on a lot of videos! keep an eye out for updates! :)
Hi. Josh ! I'm from indonesia,, could you tell me how to makes "arid bioactive vivarium" substrates except used yours ? Cause here obviously i couldn't get your substrates cause here nobody is selling it. What exactly i wants to asked that Is it okay if i just used organic top soil,, cocofiber which is mix with lil' spagnum moss and desser sand for reptile for become the substrates itself ?? Of course later i'll also added leaf litter for the cleaning crew. Why i asking you this,, cause i have a plan to make one's for my leopard gecko and my bearded dragon. Cause here nobody ever make ones except that was tropical bioactive set up or naturalistic set up.. I'm really appreciated if you could gave me some advice for this.
Hey there! so glad our content has reached you for inspiration! unfortunately due to not being local to you and knowing the products we cannot give you a proper suggestion, however we would recommend joining our Bioactive group and others that would be local to you to see what they source and use. www.thebiodude.com/products/bearded-dragon-lizard-bioactive-kit and www.thebiodude.com/products/leopard-gecko-complete-terrarium-kit
Is it a northern BTS?
Hi there I was wondering does a bearded dragon have to be a certain age before I go with a bio active set up?
Hey there Josh! At any time and age they can be added! As long as the husbandry is up to par with the correct temps and humidity, it will not be an issue at all. www.thebiodude.com/blogs/reptile-and-amphibian-caresheets-with-cited-veterinary-and-herpetology-sources/reptile-and-amphibian-caresheets-w-veterinary-sources
quick question ive had my gecko for 2 days now in my bioactive enclosure and ive made him a bowl of the gecko fruit powder that you mix with water and ill sit it in his enclosure but it doesnt seem like hes been eating any of it should i be worried?
Hey hey! so glad you made the switch to bioactive! with offering the food mix, they can sometimes take one or two small licks of the food and be full with their tiny stomachs, and the food as a paste will level back out as if it hasn't been touched. We usually recommend a full week of acclimation time before offering food and feeding at the time the animal is most active, hope this helps! - Care Team
@@TheBioDudeJoshHalter that does help my other question is my temperature keeps falling I have a small uvb bulb for the day and a nighttime bulb but the night time bulb isn’t putting out much heat which in turn drops my temp and humidity any advice? Didn’t know if a heating pad would help raise temp and humidity I don’t want to do anything to hurt the gecko
Awesome great pets animals reptiles
They are, we agree!
I was wondering if I could send you a picture of my blue tongue skink through Gmail and see if you can tell what species he/she is? I think it's an Irian Jaya but I'm not sure.
Wud they fit in a 4o gal tank and is their poop huge and stinky like a bearded dragon ?
No, a 40 gallon is much too small for appropriately housing a blue tongue skink. 48"L x 24"W x 24"H (120 gallons/8 sq ft) is the absolute minimum for this species, and larger is preferable. Both of my BTS have 48" x 36" x 24" (12 sq ft) enclosures and they could easily make use of larger.
Several of your plants links do not work.
Hey there i apologize for that as we recently did a website revamp! i will link the plants Josh used here for you! - www.thebiodude.com/products/6-pot-sansevieria-snake-plant-taller-variety
