- Good Morning, Reptilians! Morty (my blue tongue skink) got a huge tank upgrade this week! He went from a 36''x18''x16'' tank (about 40g) to a 72''x24''x24'' tank (about 180g) by Custom Reptile Habitats. He loves it so much, and I couldn't be happier with the quality of the tank.

After a few months of shopping around, y'alls video helped me to decide on this enclosure. Do you have any reflections on it to share?
We still love the tank, and he still loves exploring it! The only thing I would have done differently is putting in some sort of background. But I'll probably do that in the future 😊
I actually just ordered this exact tank, but in black, for a bioactive setup for my ball python Paul. I’m anxiously waiting for it to come in so I can get it all set up!

So fun to see you upgrading him! He so deserves it. Now we have the same size tank, except mine is for Marley my bearded dragon. Taking her to the vet for the first time today. So nervous because she is finally so comfortable at home and now I’m causing her a ton of stress again 😞

I love it, your blue tongued skink is so lucky to have you. I used to know someone who kept their adult blue tongued skink in a 20 gallon tank and it looked so dirty. Poor guy looked miserable.

I received the 72"x24"x36"H variant of this enclosure last week, looking forward to giving my carpet python the space he deserves! My video will be out quick but yours was incredibly useful for building the cage, much better than the supplied instruction manual.

That’s why I’m iffy about getting a PVC one. I hate building and putting things together. Took me 3+ hours just to put a tank stand together. 😢
What did you use for a stand for the cage I bought one but didn't think about what to hold it up

i can't even get these damn rubber strips to go into the groove fully. I hate them. HOW did you get them pushed in all the way????
Beware if you order the hood, which I did. It is not very useful if you need a higher heat basking spot because all it does is put the light/heat sources higher up, as it has another top just like the top of the main cage, so it was a waste of 200 dollars for my needs (I have a desert dweller in my CRH enclosure). Also the foam for the handles was on top of my doors, not on the side, so one of the handles got stuck in the track, came separated from the door, and I had to take it out with pliers which bent it. So I have only one door with a handle. The kit came with the handles separate but the foam(that you slip the handles over) was already applied to the doors so that is where I put the handle as per the instructions. Dummy me blindly followed the instructions. Another thing to consider if you use the weather strip in the middle to keep possible escapees out, put the lock on before you put the stripping so you know how long it needs to be.
Hi Miriam, thanks for your feedback and your order. For the hood, the lights still go on top of the enclosure and the hood just covers up the lights. It doesn't change where the lights are placed but it does help hold in some of the heat and humidity. For the handles, we can send you another handle as they are under warrantee so please email us and we will send you another set :-)
@@CustomReptileHabitats Then I got an extra screen top? or does that go on the bottom? I'm just concerned because I don't want a double screen blocking the UVB.

Hi Elle. What kind of table did you put this tank on to support the weight? Mine just got delivered and I’m struggling to find a stand.
It's actually on a dresser. It's an old wood dresser that my grandmother used to keep her saltwater aquarium on, so I knew it would support this. It wasn't quite long enough though, so there's a piece of plywood under it that runs it's length. Then there's two 4x4s that hold up that extra length. I didnt have time to paint it all before I put the video up, so there was just a sheet thrown over it all 🙃

Wild caught snakes tend to have a problem eating correctly, unfortunately. It's usually a combination of too much stress and parasites. 😕

Long ago I had small garter snakes who wouldn't eat anything, I picked up nightcrawlers /earthworms and they went nuts for them and they would Chow six or seven at once

How would UTH work for the tank for a tank for a ball python
I've seen people (like leopard gecko talk here on RUclips) put the heat pad inside, but then put a tile over it.
You could also look into things like radiant heat panels. 😊
I have a question, so for my skink is it ok if I get a heating mat instead of a UVB light because I’m going to have it in a tub for breeding and I think it will be easier to do that.
If your skink ever gets sick it will not move from the heat and could get severe burns. Heat mats for any species is not recommended by vets. Overhead heat is better and CHE do not produce light but add to ambient heat you will also need a basking and UVB though. Rack and tub systems are not recommended for reptiles by a veterinary stand point.

It really just depends. Ive gotten animals from reptile expos very inexpensive - my pastel ball python was only $20 or $25. 😊
Depends on the morph, although more expensive on these guys pay attention to health as well. I’ve seen a lot of scrawny sick ones at the store and at shows. However other species can be cheaper at shows. I got this same cage shipping now for my juvenile tegu. She was $200. Online a baby sells for $250 and juveniles upward to $400. And they are being shipped and could be questionable health. Same online place I tried to get a young pixie frog from twice and both died in less than 12 hours of arriving. This tegu looks beautiful. Also stock up on bulbs and insects from the show and for a leopard gecko you could find a cage there cheaper. Shows can be awesome for getting supplies cheaper.

How much time did it take you to put together?
I don't really know haha. It took a few hours, but we had to take several breaks to take care of children during the process. I really don't feel like it would have been too long if we had just sat down and focused only on the tank.

I was just about to start decorating my new tank and realized that suction cups don't stick to the PVC sides. So now I'm trying to figure out how to use the fake plants and hang up his hammock. Any ideas? Mines the same size but it's 36 inches tall for my son's bearded dragon. Help please. I really want to get him into his new tank but almost everything uses suction cups and they don't stick.
I used command hooks for mine and they work great!

I'm having a really hard time trying to figure out what heat and lighting to use for this enclosure. It's hard since it's 36 inches tall and 72 inches long. What heating and lighting are you using? I just want to make sure he's getting enough or not to much of the UV and heat. I figured I'd ask you since I have the same exact enclosure that you have. Any help is much appreciated. I really need to get him out of the 40 gallon tank and into this one. Thank you again for answering my other question already.

Elle, nice reply!! Always very respectful!😄 I also agree 100% always worth the effort for the happiness of your pet! They depend on us, they are at our mercy!! I don't understand why people even have an animal if they are not willing to care for them & give them love! It makes me feel so bad to see that! It shows your character to see how happy it made you that your lizard was loving his new home! My lizards have an outdoor cage as well as inside. They love it!! I live in AZ. So They get out pretty much every day, all day!! During the summer I even left them out all night quite a few times. The best thing ever to see them happy! I'm feeling so bad for them tho,the past 2 days have been windy & cool😞 so stuck inside-poor little dudes! Keep up your great work spreading the good word & inspiring others. Your kids have a great role model! Your awesome💙
