Engine bay top and bottom still as clean as a whistle! I agree, I wouldn't wait for the 15,000 klms Toyota dealership change either, change every 7,500 klms, also because some people don't drive many klms, but the oil still oxidizes over time just sitting in the garage. Don't forget the auto trans oil every 30,000 klms, if with a filter, change that to - but very important with the trans, to use only the Toyota trans oil.
G'day Max, I just also did my first oil change @ 1,000 klms (to get rid of any running-in metal bits) on my Camry and changed the oil filter (genuine Toyota filter 90915-YZZN2 for warranty purposes). I used "Penrite Enviro+ Full Synthetic 0W-20 oil" from Supercheap. I visited the Toyota Parts shop and the Toyota Dealer mechanic and he said 0W-20 Penrite is fine to use. He said anything upto 10W-30 was OK, (but for better economy and cold starts I personally think the 0W-16 to 0W-20 are better, so on any Toyota 15,000 klm service, I will make sure I get these oils used and not the 10W-30). When watching other people changing 2020/21 Camry Hybrid oil and filter, I noticed that the oil sump and oil filter area had a plastic shield covering this area which needed removing by undoing about 4 x bolts before you could gain access to the sump/filter area. I noticed that my Ascent Sport Hybrid was open and had no shield? Did you have a plastic shield cover or was yours open to? I noticed that there are 4 x bolt spots around this area which could conceivably hold a shield cover, this made me think that Toyota staff on pre-pickup inspection may have forgot to put it back on?? Go to 3 min mark and watch this video where the shield is replaced: ruclips.net/video/lmdtUNvpSro/видео.html and this one at the 1 min mark: ruclips.net/video/i0CPUHWeH_A/видео.html Perhaps it's an optional extra or they come that way in the USA and not Australia?
Hi Breaker and thanks for your comment. My car came without a splash tray and my car has seen the first service at Toyota (15k) if this was missing, they would have told me so I assume this is a kinda option that we don't have in Australia.
Keep your 2021 toyota hybrid engine (camry hybrid) healthy by regular oil change. I actually talked to toyota service department and they backed the idea of oil change between toyota services which comes every 15k.
The car manual of recent Toyota hybrids clearly states 0w16 but Toyota dealerships in the Netherlands all put 5W30 oil in the engine when you bring it in for service. Some will even refuse to put 0w16 in claiming it's not as good for the engine. When I first learned of this I suspected dealerships to want to make a quick buck off unsuspecting customers by putting in slightly cheaper oil, but since they all seem to have agreed to do it I think the reasons are more related to Dutch climate (temperate with fairly mild winters and summers, temperatures average out to 0C in winters and 20C in summer although extremes have been getting worse) and road conditions (good infrastructure and very little elevation). A few mechanics I asked about it seem to confirm this line of thinking, additionally they said the only difference between 0W16 and 5W30 is going to be slightly higher engine efficiency resulting in lower emissions when using the former, which they claim is also why the manual recommends this oil (legal requirement to meet the emission standards given for the model by the manufacturer) Are they on to something or is this really just a reason to cheap out on maintenance cost?
And, Max, if I may further ask you, seeing that you had a Nulon oil product. In my old Ford when bought new, I added NULON E10 oil additive for extra protection against friction. Can I do this on my Toyota Hybrid when I ..finally..have it delivered in December 2024? Thanks again!!
Hello, you sound like a fellow-Aussie ☺ After watching your video tip, I Googled the oil needed for Toyota Yaris Cross, and found it to be 0W 20.( Synthetic) Is this a significant difference? What goes with such a variable answer to this question? I live in Sydney which is NEVER really cold, but often miserably, 3rd world, hot in those torrid months of December to March each bleeding year 😂 Thank you!!!
Hello Max, very good video!. I also got a 2021 Camry Hybrid and would like to ask if you have an engine splash shield fitted (also known as lower engine cover or skid plate)? Mine came without it so the engine oil sump and the transmission are fully exposed. Can you please let me know?. Regards Oscar

Just the right oil (0-W16) change frequently... and hopefully your Toyota needs no mechanic for the next 400K 😉
I keep telling my dad that it has to be ow-16 and he refuses to accept this. He just doesn't get that these cars are not what we had in the 80s.

@@MaxReviewss Thanks Max - did you ask the service guys what sort of oil they put in your car?

But in Australia Toyota Service only use 0w 20?? It’s so weird they don’t even use genuine Toyota oil.

Similar issue here as the dealers want to use 5w30. I am tired of arguing with them.
In the philippines, Toyota uses 10w40 claiming its fully synthetic lol. Better go DIY
@raymartisais7613 terrible idea, lots of stop and start can wear the engine very quickly
@@MaxReviewss what I do is I buy both the spec filter and oil from toyota and have someone external do it. Dumbass dealerships
Recommend using crush washer & torque wrench when replacing drain plug.
👍
Nice video. You over fill the oil. The level should be measure after engine running and oil become hot

I have been using Nulon for all of my vehicles, and I think it is a good oil.

Our Toyota dealership here is Brisbane actually uses 5-30 oil. I prefer 0-16 though.
Hi Max, isnt it overfilled? I hearth that engine oil shouldnt be on upper sign of dip stick. Especially on hybrids
Correct, the oil level should not be above the upper mark on the dipstick, but slightly lower...
I love your videos
Thanks mate :)

Hi Oscar, thanks for you positive comment, I was told by toyota that this splash tray was not fitted on 2021 Australian Camrys...
@@MaxReviewss Thank you Max
I am from Germany. I have a camry 2021, bought in Dänemark. It has the cover.
Thanks for confirming 👍 it is logical to have a cover.
We don’t have salt on the roads in winter time so that could be a reason. And it would keep cooler in summer.
Did they forget to give you a cover underneath the engine? Mine has a large plastic cover across the bottom.
Most probably yes, and they didn't talk about it even on the next scheduled services...
You had to take that plastic skid-plate off I presume ?? I can't see the drain plug or nuttin' !
@@67polarain Australia we do not get the plastic covers.
We did the same. We changed at 8KM. We also replaced the oil filter too.
Excellent, still doing this at 65K km...
Very faint sound
