[TAS] Super Mario 64: Sonic Edition Plus v2 in

- In which a time traveler stepped on a butterfly, resulting in Sonic being the go-to Nintendo franchise.
This is a ROM Hack (romhacking.com...) which predictably replaces Mario with Sonic, alongside changing the movement system by a large amount in order to be more Sonic-like. This includes ground speed (Natural running speed of 80 vs 32, conserves up to 200 speed instead of 48), air speed (Aerial acceleration is much higher, single jumps allow Sonic to turn in the air twice as quickly as on the ground), being able to spindash (Which allows Sonic to instantly get about 360 speed when doing a final slidekick after the spindash release), alongside other miscellaneous changes (Can't long jump, double jump, triple jump, or swim; trying to dive on the ground just results in a punch).
This aims to be the "any%" TAS of the hack; due to BLJs being removed, 1 Key is impossible (As far as I know). A previous TAS made by @GSRTHESIGMA nearly two years ago was able complete this with 1 Star; I found that it's barely possible to skip the DDD portal and finish the game with zero stars.
As seen throughout the TAS, spindashing is crucial for going very fast, but it's not enough by itself: When spindashing and then slidekicking on the ground, you only keep that maximum ~360 speed for one frame before it drops back down to about 120 speed or so - falling off of a ledge, however, allows that full speed to be conserved. Thus, whenever possible, I aim to spindash off of a ledge and immediately hit a wall, in order to wallkick and keep my speed across entire sections of a level.
Level notes:
Castle Yard: No ledges in the immediate area, so I use a jump-airdash to start from idle, run up the hill, and then do a series of jump kicks to skip "Lakitu" and enter the castle.
Lobby 1: I make my way up the stairs, hop on a small ledge, and then spindash off of it to skip right through the 8-Star Door.
Eggman in the Dark World: In which I first repeat the spindash trick on the ledge near the start, wallkick off of the ramp section, get to another spindash section, cut through the middle of the level by running up the spire, and then do a final spindash cancel. I was stuck on this section for a while, until I realized I could wallkick off of the box, which allowed me to get the right height and angle to get right to the end.
Eggman 1: Even though Sonic can't dive while on the ground, his airdash can still grab the Egg Koopa's tail, which makes the fight go about the same as in the original game.
Lobby 2: I do a spindash past the door again followed by a series of jumps to make my way to the basement
Basement: By spindashing off of the correct ledge and doing a series of wallkicks (One of them pause buffered), it's barely possible to get enough speed to skip past the DDD portal.
Eggman in the Fire Sea: Starts off with a spindash cancel and a wallkick to get to the pole, in which it's just barely possible to perform the hanging mesh upwarp from the original game. I then do a gigantic chain of wallkicks to reach the exit warp.
Eggman 2: It's possible to reach Eggman before the Egg Koopa lands on the ground, which means skipping the five seconds of waiting for the platform to move around.
Lobby 3: Because Sonic can't swim, he doesn't have a swim idle state, which means he can't pause exit in DDD easily; this makes it faster to backtrack through the lobby to reach upstairs.
Lobby 4: Standard movement followed by a series of spindash cancels in order to skip both star doors and the endless stairs.
Eggman in the Sky: Uses multiple Glitchy Wall Kicks throughout the level in order to conserve speed better, alongside everything else at Sonic's disposal.
Eggman 3: Basically a repeat of the first two fights, except with three bombs instead of one.
As a first attempt, I think this is a pretty good run, but as with all first attempts, there's almost certainly improvements scattered about.

Very entertaining run! Just wondering if Lobby 3 (3:10) would be faster if you use the invisible wall (OoB) shown at ruclips.net/video/YsXCVsDFiXA/видео.htmlsi=uCoMEujxXY1TXzs9&t=5585 to clip through the ceiling at a different spot and skip a ledge grab.
I didn't know about this while making it, but yes I imagine it would be a bit faster than doing the ledgegrab method.
@@DyllonStejGamingnice video bro this video is so cool
Eggman: “can you stop me in three days?”
Sonic: “I’ll do it in right now”
I will always be impressed at how well the Eggman-piloting-Bowser model works. Gamebun did a great job making the model.
It's so cursed 🤣🤣 I love it.

@@gereniccc4487Was it really a black hole? It didn't suck all the wisps and Eggman was just floating in space like nothing happened. Except his Eggmobile is kaput.
That second bowser kill was a straight up NNNNOOOPE!

Not SO fast bruh😂
The fact that Shotgun Sonic made me remember that Sonic 3 AIR mod made me laugh lmao
If Sonic, then only Adventure! 🌭
The Virgin Mario BLJ vs. The Chad Fully Charged Sonic Spindash
This was pretty cool. Now, do a 120 star run.

Personally I'm tired of being subjected to toxic positivity from women. I wish women would give constructive criticism.

Sonci the Hedginghog, What are you doing at the Mushroom Kingdom!?!?
That's obviously the Emerald Kingdom.

I can't wait the Pannenkoek video explaning the Bismuth's TASes about the B Button Challenge!!!
Nice to see more TASs with my moveset
2:37 hold up, can the TAS do that Tail grab in the original game?
Mario is too slow in the original game to reach Bowser in time.

why is this actually so high quality
In 3 days? What is this, Majora's Mask?
It's a reference to Sonic Heroes.
Gotta love how over half of this video is the credits
the eggman intro is funny as shit
This mod looks so cool! Honestly kind of a shame it goes by so fast in a TAS. I'll probably wanna look up a regular playthrough of it later to see the various dialogue, object and enemy changes. Oh, and the music changes, too, can't forget those.
Eggman: Can you stop me in 3 days ?
Sonic: Nah I'll do it in 3 minutes

Sonic if he was lore accurate
God im so used to the coop deluxe version this is so different
Ain’t no way sonic just flew up the infinite staircase😭😭😭
Would love to see a 120 start run on this if you're still enjoying this mod
He seems pretty quick
My man sonic is speedruning the living shish of this game
This reminds me of TerminalMontage’s Sonic videos.
OMG, it's so much cooler in so many ways
cool stuff!
I was curious for the reason behind the pause buffer in Dark World, if you could elaborate?
Biblically accurate Sonic:
seeing this game makes me wonder what mario would’ve looked like if it didn’t have a rough transition to 3d. Mario 64 would’ve probably been better than Mario Adventure ngl.
Awesome
First Captian Falcon, now Sonic? Which character will this guy do next?
Daaaam we get it sonic. Gotta go fast , jeez 😂
That….is…. _incredible._ 🤯
He might be fast but nothing shall have enough sped to reach a parralel universe beside 64 maro
this doesn't seem much different from SA2 TASes after you unlock the bounce bracelet

We not gonna see you in budokai 4?
ah finally
mario 64 but good
This is just lythero's gameplay during the mario 64 video he just put out
Edit: this was a joke damn you, stop taking everything so seriously
Go ahead and drop your proof of this claim. And if you back out, saying it was a joke, you will be appropriately roasted, ratio’d and told to do proper research before making claims
@@championzelda7088 who thr freaky fuck hurt you? It was a mere reference, a joke if you will, I wasn't trying to actually claim the gameplay was stolen, but rather a joke, a play on how sonic was absolutely busted in the aforementioned video
@championzelda7088 who hurt you? I _was_ making a joke, so you can kindly screw off on your Twitter ratio, because the joke here is not a claim on how the gameplay was stolen, but rather a play on how sonic as a character is quite powerful in super mario 64
@championzelda7088 I'm gonna try one last time cuz youtube keeps deleting it, but im not saying the gameplay was stolen, idk who hurt you but I made what we westerners call a joke, it's like funny or something
The joke in question is of sonic being a busted character in super mario 64, to which lythero had played on his newest video
So no im not claiming this gameplay was stolen, obviously, I think anyone with a pair of functioning eyes could see that, so you can kindly screw off with your Twitter ratio, and have a rank day you low life
