      Thanks for the info. I am brand new to IG, especially marketing. Aside, can you tell me what type of mic and editor you use to create your youtube videos? Thanks in advance!

    • @mrjerrypotter
      @mrjerrypotter  5 лет назад

      I am using a boom mic from Rode that plugs into the camera, and also into the computer or phone when I do screen recordings (with an adapter). You can see it here: www.amazon.com/shop/fiveminutesocialmedia
      For editing I use Camtasia! I got it at my day job a few years ago and really like it. It's not as robust as Adobe Premiere, but does all I need it to for animations, screen recordings and graphics.

      IT'S AWESOME THAT YOU REPLY TO EVERY SINGLE COMMENT. I DO THE SAME THING. I WANNA GROW I JUST HATE THE FACT THAT WHEN YOU GET TO A CERTAIN POINT, THEN YOU CANT POSSIBLY GET TO EVERYONE.

    • @mrjerrypotter
      @mrjerrypotter  5 лет назад

      I do my best. Unfortunately there is no perfect method. Sometimes I'll be looking at something on an older video and there will be a new comment from a couple months ago that never came up under Comments.

    Seriously, thank you! I felt like I was insta savvy but I was clueless about stories until I watched your tutorial.
    I still had to look up how to have mixed media in one story. Like having one picture and then a video, etc. Definitely need to add that in here. :)

    • @mrjerrypotter
      @mrjerrypotter  5 лет назад

      Do you mean just adding to your story? Or do you mean mixed media on the screen at the same time?

    Hey !! I’m looking for a video on explanation on how Instagram explore page works and how to get on explore.. I feel like you’re the only guy I can understand if you explain and make a video about it.. the other people be getting me confused. By the way, I’ve learned a lot from you for my business page

    • @mrjerrypotter
      @mrjerrypotter  5 лет назад +3

      I'm glad the videos have been helpful!
      I haven't made a video on the Instagram Explore page, but I can tell you it is the ultimate in Instagram. Everyone's explore page is different, depending on the things they browse and engage with. The main thing I'll tell you is to find hashtags people are searching for but that aren't TOO popular. That's the key. If you have a post with one (or more) of those hashtags, then you're likely to come up on someone's Explore page.
      Of course you also want to make sure your regular posts are awesome too so if you do get discovered people will follow you!

    • @mrjerrypotter
      @mrjerrypotter  5 лет назад

      Great question Alexis! They aren't notified, but when you share a story to your Close Friends, it is marked as such in the story. So if I watch your story and see it is just for Close Friends, I'll know I'm in that group. Does that make sense?

    hi,
    Thanks for the tutorial! I hope you can help with 2 more questions about stories:
    1. Can I post live photos from gallery to a story? How?
    2. If I'm posting a series of photos (5-8) from my phone library to a story, is there a way to add a continuous song track for the whole story? When I tried, I had to manually cut the song and insert for each photo... is there a way to have the track automatically continue to the next photo? how do I do that?
    Thanks!

  • @jaydenecastle6858
    @jaydenecastle6858 5 лет назад

    Feel really dumb asking this questions. 1) Once you've added a photo, and zoomed out so it doesn't fill the whole screen...how do you change the background colour behind it? 2) How do you add more than one photo/video to the screen - so you might have a photo at the top left, and a video playing at the bottom right?

    • @mrjerrypotter
      @mrjerrypotter  5 лет назад

      Hi Jaydene! Stories don't let you add more than one image or video - you'd have to produce that in another program like this: ruclips.net/video/VtGe9JjgU8E/видео.html
      As far as changing the background color, this isn't something that is available behind the photo - the background color comes from the photo. You could do it from a 3rd party app. You can also use the paint tool to paint a certain color background, or you can just use the text background colors (as shown in this tutorial) to make your text pop.
      It sounds like you want to get fancier with your production (which is awesome!), so you'll need 3rd party tools to put the stories together before putting them in Instagram.

  • @Rephil96

    Learned a lot from your video...one question I still have is...to make a separate story you have to wait until the previous one disappears after 24 hours correct? In my case I tried within the 24 hours and I could not find a way for it to not just piggyback onto the previous story.

    • @mrjerrypotter
      @mrjerrypotter  5 лет назад

      No need to wait, just follow the same steps (starting with the Camera). The new story just shows up after the last one. As each story reaches the 24 hour mark it will automatically delete. Does that make sense Phillip?

    • @mrjerrypotter
      @mrjerrypotter  5 лет назад

      It's not really made for 2 minute videos, but to do that you can use an app to break it into 15-second chunks (Instagram will only do that up to 4 chunks, so a one-minute video).
      Check out CutStory or StorySplitter - they should both work great!

    Since the stories auto delete after 24 hours, is there a way to save the whole story as one file (I saw where you showed you can save a photo so I'm assuming you can save each portion of the story individually). So glad I found you on here, I've learned a lot.

    • @mrjerrypotter

      Great question! Watch the story you want to save and click the 3 dots in the bottom corner, choose Save, and then it will ask you if you want to save the photo or the whole story.
      Glad the videos have been helpful Mark!

    This is an awesome tutorial except that my iphone doesn't have the same screen and options as yours? I have deleted the IG app and reloaded - not sure what is up with this. Also - my stories screen doesn't have music. any suggestions?

    • @mrjerrypotter
      @mrjerrypotter  4 года назад

      Hi Kim! Sorry your screen looks different - as you know they make lots of changes. I'm planning an updated version of this tutorial this year.
      Regarding Music, it's very hit and miss. My music sticker seems to regularly show up and then disappear. I think it's because of ongoing changes to the agreements with the record companies.

    Hi Jerry, just started learning about stories - did I see that stories can now be saved? If so does that mean followers can see that story at anytime?

    • @mrjerrypotter
      @mrjerrypotter  4 года назад

      Hi Trevor! Your Stories are automatically saved in a personal archive, but others can't see them. But you can choose specific Stories as "Highlights" on your profile. Here's how that works: studio.ruclips.net/user/videoaMlWuaE7QIo/edit

    Hey Jerry - well done. I was wondering if/how one can add multiple photos (scroll or swipe) in a story post. Also, is there a way to archive posts beyond the 24 hour delete period? I may want to do a theme over a period of days or weeks and have all the posts for that theme available to viewers. Thanks!

    • @mrjerrypotter
      @mrjerrypotter  4 года назад

      To add multiple photos you can create a collage using a graphics program, or just keep adding each photo as a "new" story, then people can click through them.
      Keeping Stories can be done - they're called Highlights: ruclips.net/video/aMlWuaE7QIo/видео.html

    I was told you can make stories that are actually saved and categorized. For instance, I saw a travel blogger who had various stories saved under various country categories, and I guess these stories don't get deleted after 24 hours? It's all confusing to me. Anyway, I'd love to know more about that. Also...a friend told me that you can actually use an already existing normal post as a story as a way to draw more attention to it. Finally...you mentioned that you needed 10,000 ore more followers in order to link to something. We want to link to our blog, but you're saying we can't do that until we get to 10,000? Thanks for all of your information in this video, it was a lot, but as we are looking to grow our following, I guess we'll have to start using stories if that's a good way to do it.

    • @mrjerrypotter
      @mrjerrypotter  5 лет назад

      Hi Aaron! What you are referring to are Instagram Story Highlights, and here's how to use them: ruclips.net/video/aMlWuaE7QIo/видео.html
      To share a post in your story, simply tap the share button (looks like a paper airplane) on the post.
      Yes, you can't link in a story until you have 10,000 followers. 😕 I have some so-so workarounds I've been using: facebook.com/MrJerryPotter/videos/387843835112224/

    Hi Jerry, got a question: is it possible to save stories, and re-use them later again?

    • @mrjerrypotter
      @mrjerrypotter  4 года назад

      You can save them to your camera roll and post them again later, but they will lose clickable elements (like polls, hashtags). You can also go into your archive and re-share stories from there.

    Thank you for your clear explanations in the fun videos. Love them. I have been trying to find what you can do with the left circled arrow on the right top of your screen when you click on a previous post picture in your profile. I can't find anywhere what it does. Hope you can help.

    • @mrjerrypotter
      @mrjerrypotter  5 лет назад +1

      Ha, I had to read your description slowly to figure out what you were referring to. I have never seen that arrow before! Normally that would either be a Refresh or Undo button, but I don't know what you'd be undoing.
      How long have you seen it there? Like I said, I've never noticed it. It might be something they are testing but haven't fully activated.

      @@mrjerrypotter It's a bummer I can't send a screenshot here. If you click on your profile you get an overview of your pictures/posts. When you click on one you see on the top of your screen this sign: < on the left. The word Photo in the middel and an arrow in a circle, counterclockwise, on the right. I don't understand what that one does. I looked on the phone of others and they have the samen.

      Unfortunately no - some people have it and some don't, and there's been no official info from Instagram. I had it, then lost it for SIX MONTHS, then it showed up again a couple weeks ago.
      You could try deleting the app and reinstalling (sometimes that triggers an update), but it may be unrelated to that.

    Thank you for this video! So helpfull. Quick question: Is there anyway to start a story, save it and edit/publish it later?

    • @mrjerrypotter
      @mrjerrypotter  5 лет назад +1

      Great question Maya! You can click the down arrow at the top of the screen when creating a story and it will save what you have to your camera roll. Then you can select it from your camera roll later.
      FYI: When you save to your camera roll any stickers you have added will be "flattened," in otherwords they will become part of the video. So if you upload it later, stickers like @mentions or locations will still show up, but they won't be clickable.
      That's the workaround - there is no "save as draft" function"
