I have been teasing this series for a very long time...ever since I did the Sega Arcade Racing Retrospective last year...and that's because it took a VERY LONG TIME to make...a thirty episode retrospective on every Sega Model 1, Sega Model 2 and Sega Model 3 arcade game ever made that isnt a racing title! Because Sega is the undisputed (in my opinion) king of retro gaming in arcades whether it be 2D or 3D!
Just don't expect Daytona USA, Scud Race or Sega Rally...as that already happened back in 2023! Check the playlists!
But the Sega Model series of arcade boards are filled to the bring with some of the best Sega games of all time...as well as some Sega Hidden Gems!
Patreon Thanks: Seth Peterson, John Thompson, Paul Daniel, Porch, Jon Anderson, RayceARoni, Kurangui, Jason Hixon, Alex Tessler, Jonathan Leung, Martin Donlon, Tom Van Deusen, Barabob, Steve Randall, Ahab, K-2, Renaissance 2K, Ivar Wennerholm, Adrien Sebbane,
tobemorecrazy, Mike Puelinckx, Tony Escobar, H7, Humanoide70, Ben Parfitt, Holder Schmidt, Tim Lehner, Shad Uttam, Dan L, James Mann, Richard Schneider, Coupon Joe, Sunder Raj, Dorfus the Maple Syrup Man, John Booty and Craig M!
Up next: Virtua Cop 2! Before this game...there was no 3D light gun game except the original Virtua Cop...it was all 2D sprite based stuff like Alien 3: The Gun, Terminator 2, Lethal Enforcers...etc etc etc. Sega took their Model 2 arcade hardware, grabbed some cops and some bad guys...and made one of the most iconic arcade games of all time...and then they made a bigger, better sequel the next year with Virtua Cop 2! Definitely NOT Sega hidden gem status...but Sega's best game of all time status!
You can also play it on Sega Saturn, Playstation 2 or Windows PC...meaning this is also PC gaming!
and the best part is you can use the "Model 2 Emulator" to play the arcade original if you don't have an original arcade PCB!

I was lucky to find a complete Virtua Cop 2 board, it works great in my House of the Dead cab and I switch between the two every couple of months. The car chase scene is great!
Nice. Good pick up!
this took all my quarters back in the day
That was it’s one true mission in life
It had a PC port, which was surprisingly common Indian PCs.
I played it first time around 2003.
Fun to hear it came to India
A heck of a lot better this was for sure VGE. Played this so many times at the arcades that I had to purchase the Saturn version soon after. A timeless class is Virtua Cop 2 is brother man. 8^)
Anthony..
It never gets old
Super conversion to Saturn 😎👍
Yes the Saturn ports were extremely good coming from Model 2
Love this version!
Same (obviously lol)
I always had a soft spot for VCOP1.
Such a great game and the start is nice n slow to bring you into the game rather than trying to destroy you straight from the start like most lightgun games do!
Now if Sega would just give us a VC4
You can look up Galloping Ghost in Brookfield, Illinois as they have about near every arcade made and getting more.
I’ve been. Fun place
I just played the Saturn version, great arcade port. Never saw VC 1 or 2 in the arcade
I saw them back in the day but they didn’t last that long
The good thing about the Saturn versions is that they are both technical very coherent. At some points there are even some more colors going than on the PCB thanks to VDP2. But yeah, VC2 has quite some more to offer and it's running @60.
Interesting tidbit. the zoom in/crosshair mechanic is directly inspired by a coffee TV advertisement. That ad was pretty stupid though, haha!
Tv ad? Haha which one?
@@VideoGameEsoterica Got to 6:46 ruclips.net/video/OrMqYVB5G-4/видео.html
Always towards the top of the list of light gun games.
Top 10 for me for sure
I always found it interesting how the arcade uses a second gen camero cop car while all the ports appear to use an R32 or skyline of that same generation. It's a weird change but interesting one to me
You know I never noticed that. Good eyes
There is still a delux cabinet with big screen in Odesa, Ukraine.
I used to play this same cabinet as a kid, and its still there. This place has other arcades as well, like sega rally shampionship. Also a deluxe cabinet with a big seat and a frame, makes you feel like you are getting into a real racing car. And yes, they also have house of the dead 2 and many other sega arcades on sega model 2 and 3.
Unfortunately, as post soviet country, we never had an arcade culture here, so these arcades are treated like a kids toys. They are not treated seriously, which really makes me sad, because kids absolutely destroy these.
Sounds like an awesome arcade. Glad to know it’s there
My first shooting game, I play it with my uncle when I'm 5yo
Remember my skill issue there when my uncle beat all bosses easily, look like I'm bad luck for him because using all continue
Btw, which version is better
Dreamcast or saturn ?
A fun memory
I prefer Saturn. Dreamcast is too nice looking
@@VideoGameEsoterica Yeah also currently I installed PC version Of Virtua cop 2 at school and play it with friend, don't tell my teacher please (even if you don't know who my teacher)
The PC got a decent port of VC2 if you had a 3Dfx card.
Sega was really dedicated to PC back then
this game got me to stop going for tickets for crappy prizes. all my quarters went to this while my mom was shopping in the mall
Smart move Conan
I hate it’s been two decades and MAME still hasn’t properly added model 2.
One of these days I’m sure
I prefer the music of VC1 on Saturn/PS2
I also prefer the style/color usage of VC1
Indeed VC2 is more exciting than VC1
VC series > time crisis series
VC1 & VC2 are best played on a PS2 on a big CRT
At least Time Crisis got more games
Really? Time Crisis blows this out of the water.
@@SolCresta3405 I respect that. A casual gamer friend of mine also like Time Crisis more.
@@dbnpoldermans4120 Because Time Crisis is the kind of franchise that gets bigger, badder, and better with every sequel. It’s like the light gun equivalent to the Fast & Furious movies.
Haha this is kind of true
Too bad Joe Fang is still as pathetic as ever.
He tried!
@@VideoGameEsoterica But no cigar.
Heck yeah I love this game! Just did a play through of it a few weeks ago on the Steam Deck.
It’s the Vermont cheddar of Sega games
Why you gotta do Virtua Cop 2 dirty like that!? The game is great! Like Wisconsin cheddar!
Blasphemy
