  • In this video we unload another glaze kiln containing pieces made by my extremely talented students and a couple of my pieces. I’ve also been testing some new to me Mayco Jungle Gem glazes and a couple of others to add to the extremely large glaze collection we use here at The Pottery Corner. In this load we have a lovely Wonky Pot made by Jane and glazed in a studio favourite - Amaco Fog - which is a lovely duck egg blue coloured glaze and one my students can’t get enough of! The Wonky Pot template continues to sell well in my Etsy shop so you could make your own version.
    Lisa wins Student of the Week this week. She attended the Throwing on the Wheel course and made some lovely pots glazed in Amaco Blue Sapphire, Blue Rutile, Frosted Turquoise and Maycos Blue Hydrangea. Being as this was the first time she had touched clay and thrown on the wheel she did a great job. Well done Lisa and I hope she will return to have another go with her friend in the future.
    I have thrown a bowl and decorated it with a studio slip in a beautiful violet blue with carp swimming around the bowl made using the vinyl stencils supplied by my friend and fellow potter, Karen, who sells the vinyl stencils in her Etsy shop www.etsy.com/uk/shop/kasiepottery
    The Amaco Potter’s Choice and Celadon glazes shown in this video are: Blue Rutile, Frosted Turquoise, Ancient Jasper, Blue Sapphire, Ice, Fog, Chun Plum, Indigo Float and Obsidian. I have also bought some new Mayco Jungle Gem glazes - the test tiles look exciting - and these are Gogh Iris, Mocha Marble, Mardi Gras, Jazz Notes, Kaleidescope and Noel. As I fire to stoneware temperature I think I lose quite a bit of colour so am planning to do some tiles in my small kiln at a lower temperature to see what difference this makes. More work to do on this and I’ll report back to you. I also used Mayco Night Moth and Sea Salt to good effect.
    My work is available to purchase via my Etsy shop (link below) if you’d be kind enough to take a look.
    Hi I’m Sarah Amos. I gave up my day job and am now living the dream as a full-time potter and teacher, running courses from my studio, The Pottery Corner, in a little village just outside Chichester on the South Coast of England. With Cissy and Charlie, my studio companions, we welcome students of all abilities from complete beginners to the more experienced, teaching throwing on the potters wheel as well as handbuilding techniques.
    I love to share my clay experience and knowledge by passing on pottery techniques in my Pottery Top Tip videos; which include full tutorials on items to try out yourselves. I also sell my work via my Website and Etsy Shop. So grab a cuppa, sit back, relax and let’s dive into what’s going on in The Pottery Corner today.

    Couple things Sarah. I vote with you, the underglaze transfer doesn’t work - sorry to your hubby. You win. 😂
    Love the wonky pot! Can’t wait to get my template that I ordered! Amaco glazes are in major shortage here in the states as well. Very, very depleted stock. I’ve been told that it has to do with a shortage of supplies such as plastic bottles partially because the price of a cargo shipment went from 2k to 10k (I’m not sure why but that’s a huge increase!!!) and there’s a shortage of workers as well…..trickle down effect of Covid. Anyhow, great kiln opening! Thanks for sharing! 💜

      @thepotterycorner  2 года назад

      Thanks Natalie - hopefully your template will arrive very soon. Interesting comments about the Amaco glazes - this will have a knock on effect for their company as people find alternatives to use! 😳

      @@thepotterycorner Bailey and a lot of the big pottery equipment suppliers are having the same types of problems. NCECA is going to really struggle this year & rumor has it that many big pottery supplier won’t be going because of the supply/demand shortages. Quite a wait at this point if you were in the market for a kiln, wheel etc. They can’t get parts and are short on staff as well. Automobile companies in the US are also very low on inventory - lots are half empty at many dealerships. It’s such a strange time.

    • @thepotterycorner
      @thepotterycorner  2 года назад

      Hi Josi and thanks for watching. I use my bisque cookies as many times as I can until they get glaze on them (the purpose of using them of course) and then I throw them away. There is a video on how to make kiln cookies to save your shelves on my back catalogue if you wanted to take a look. Some of them get fired 10-20 times so they are extremely economical and save me a load of time on grinding the kiln shelves. Hope that helps.😀
