I rarely leave comments on videos, but I feel compelled to express my thoughts about this song. In my humble opinion, this song is undeniably one of the greatest ever created. The way the music, production, vocal arrangement, vocals, and melodies come together exudes an unparalleled energy and pure gold standard.

Amerie is African American and Korean so her tattoo is Korean . This song is her biggest hit , it was on the will smith movie hitch . Record label tried to sabotage it so Amerie and her producer sent to all the clubs and it grew to a hit .

Just a little note Amerie started her own RUclips channel several years ago and dose booktube/book reviews along side still making music.
She a very underrated artist but her discovery is really good.
Her sound was produced by her and Rich Harrison.
Rich worked with Beyoncé for ‘crazy in love’ which uses the same Gogo sound, That probably why you associate ‘1 thing’ with destiny child.
Rich also worked with Jennifer Lopez for ‘get it right’ and Toni braxton ‘take this ring’ using the same gogo sound.

Her career never really popped the way it should have because according to her she had terrible management and made some bad decisions. Amerie said her record label Columbia records didn't promote her as much and actually rejected 1 Thing multiple times. They were concentrating on artists who were already bigger. Rumor has it Colombia wanted JLo to do a similar single so wanted to sabotage Amerie's single which doesnt make sense to me bec its their artist
Amerie wanted the go-go sound to be well known outside of DC. The music style of this song is go-go which is a subgenre of funk music. It was created in the 1960s by black artists in Washington D.C where Amerie is from. Its still popular and was officially named as the music of Washington in 2020. Amerie is moreso an author now and book enthusiast. She does still make aome.music vut its not her main foxus anymore

Richard Harrison produced and co-wrote crazy in love in 2002 after it’s released in 2003 the song saw a huge success then in 2004 Richard and AMERIE saw the success of crazy in love so they decided to make the same upbeat/pop/gogo sound which was different from the slow r&b gogo sound amerie with “all I have” released in 2001 she was doing However colombia records refused to let them release the song cause they wanted to give it to Jlo but in 2005 amerie leaked the song and it started slowly captivating a huge audience on radio, months later the label didn’t have no choice but to let her release it officially and the song ended charting in the top 50.
That’s the history of Crazy in love and 1 Thing.

Maybe the reason you always thought this was Destiny’s Child is probably their song Lose My Breath has a similar vibe. You probably got them mixed up at some point.
Another fun fact: this style of music is native to the Washington D.C. area (where she is from) and it is know as go-go.
The record label did not want Amerie to put this song out because they didn’t think people would like the go go sound that’s popular in DC. She had get dj to spin this record so it could get leaked to radio. Also JLo wanted this song and the record label wanted her to sing it instead of Amerie but luckily she already claimed it before JLo could get to it. That’s why JLo song Get Right sounds so similar to this. And there were other artists copying Amerie sound cuz this song blew up!
