- Hello! Here is a new video of my Insomnia mod for Kingdom Hearts III, showcasing the current state of the map.
A lot... lot of work is going into this project, and I can't give any specific estimation of when I will be done, but progress is going well.
I completely remade the lighting in comparison to the first video, materials are better, a lot more areas are now included (I still have some remaining ones to do).
I worked a lot on optimizing the scene meshes to reduce the amount of individual objects, and reduce the draw calls, which really helped with performance, combined with camera and distance culling.
I have a steady 60 fps with a GTX 1080, with about 30 to 50% gpu usage in 1080p.
There is still a lot of work to do. I have to figure out a lot of things with materials and transparency, I would also like to add NPCs to make the city feel more alive, save points, a way to access the world directly from the game without needing the use of a command console, and other various features, but it's all very complicated.
I work on the unreal scene alone, but I want to give a special thanks to the OpenKH community for their help with a lot of information, and especially Sora101Ven for their immense help with many features and teaching me lot of things!

@@Larxia I believe he means the whole world is a full on world, complete with story-bosses, and enemies, and treated as if the player was going there the first time.

Men... It makes no sense what the modder community does with KH on PC. This is awesome.
Now all we need is a way to get Noctis into here. I can just imagine the warp/airstep frenzy he and Sora would go into in a team attack.
There was someone working on a Noctis model mod (character and weapon), so it could be a thing, but it just replaces Sora. Having it as an party member with you would be really cool
@@Larxia Fortunately other character mods have shown that entire animations can be imported as well, and these can apply to allies, so a full-on Noctis mod is feasible if nothing else.
@@vadandrumist1670 Maybe, it will have to be done by someone else though :p It's not something I'm familiar with or want to spend my time on, I prefer to focus on environment and such
SquareEnix really messed up by not having more Final Fantasty inclusion. The best they could come up with is some DLC that featured some characters. Lame. This would have been perfect as a new world
@@RaikaSTi Even worse than "the best they could do", they specifically avoided including FF characters. Especially a shame for worlds who's companions aren't even around half the time. I could easily have seen FF5's Faris fitting into PoC for example.
When I had first discovered kingdom hearts when I was 5, there was a special feeling I felt. Watching this trailer reminded me of that, thank you for this!
Good thing Noctis is already in KHIII twice.
This is pretty impressive by the way. Crazy how the only way to explore Insomnia for real is as a mod in Kingdom Hearts III.
Thing is that may not even be wrong. Kingdom Hearts is no stranger to FF as we know, so having Verum Rex connect to FFXV in some way is entirely plausible especially with the reigning theory of Yozora being Noctis's Nobody.

This is a really amazing mod! Very well done! I had no idea Insomnia had so much to the actual city. I would have thought Square would have left a bunch of unfinished since you only see it for a bit in XV
Early gameplay of XV showed a segment of Noctis fighting around Insomnia. I suspect they have a lot of fully rendered areas in Insomnia but not explorable in the released version. The best you can do is to explore the city after its ruin in Royal Edition, or Ardyn's DLC.
This is the kingdom hearts game that I’ve always wanted! I’m more excited for Verum Rex since that game will hopefully only take place in Quadratum! I’m open to Yozora exploring final fantasy worlds thou similar to how Sora explores Disney and Pixar worlds.

Sidenote: Insomnia is such a cool city I love the concept of a modern castle city. And love that this mod restores it and makes it explorable in its full-state glory

This mod just looks incredible! XV is my absolute favorite FF, so seeing Sora and company here scratches a part of my brain I didn't know itched, so you've just earned yourself a subscriber. Just... If I had one issue it was that the models looked too big for the map. I don't know about you but the throne room and city in XV and Kingsglaive looked gigantic to me, here it's kinda small. All that aside I can't wait for more content. Sora fighting a horde of Magitech soldiers, or Noctis and his gang fighting wave after endless wave of Heartless and Nobodies. I wish more users made risky and experimental mods like this.
I'm pretty sure you get that impression because of the fast movements of the characters in kingdom hearts, and the distance of the camera from the character, rather than the size of the models.
Here is the same place in both FF XV and KH, if anything Sora is actually smaller than Noctis, but the camera makes you see a lot more at once, making it potentially feel smaller.

Thank you very much, it's nice to hear. I think we are a lot like this, FF XV is really a love / hate relationship, we like the game but we are also really sad by all the missed opportunities and the things we never got from VS XIII...
I have always been frustrated with the lack of Insomnia in FF XV, since it's what I wanted to see the most. This is why I'm doing this mod, to let people explore Insomnia before its destruction, with all the freedom.

That would be amazing indeed, I have a lot of ideas on what I'd like related to this, but it's beyond my skills / knowledge so far, I'll try as much as I can but there won't be cutscenes and all.
I saw your FFXV montage once before and felt pretty happy to see someone make an edit that shows how I feel about the game. Now RUclips shows me this video and I'm surprised, I'd never thought of this despite playing many kh3 mods. You really went far beyond that montage to showcase your interest in 15/VS13. KH4 and remind really seem to show that even Nomura can't let go, just like us lol. I don't cope anymore watching trailers, but I play 15 or kh3 from time to time but I'm excited to see what you do with this, it's amazing and by far the best environment mod I've seen for kh3 imo.

FF XV / VS XIII is a really special thing to me, like many of us, and like you said, we can't really let go, it's a concept that kind of haunt us and stay with us forever lol.
I've always been frustrated about Insomnia in particular. I really wouldn't have had a problem if FF XV was the same as it is now for the most part, if it included more Insomnia...
I do like the game, but I really, really wish that there were one or two chapters before the actual current game, taking place in Insomnia before the invasion. Basically... Let us play the events of Kingsglaive inside the game, instead of it being a movie.
Having a prologue chapter inside the city would have been amazing, it's what most of us wanted, we could have been more attached to it, and everything following in the actual game would have been a lot more impactful. We should have been able to get to know Insomnia and do some things in it, and then live and actually play the invasion, like in the trailers. After that would come the game we currently have.
This would have been great and a lot of my issues with the game would be gone, not all of it, there are some flaws, but that "betrayed / we didn't get what was promised" feeling would be much less strong.
I don't mind the whole not being that dark VS XIII atmosphere etc, I just wanted to play in the city that was teased for 10 years.
For now I'm still working on the environment itself, I'm not sure what exactly I'm going to be able to include in the mod, but if anything, it will be a playground for people to make their own fun in, but hopefully I can add a few events interactive things and whatnot to make it engaging.
@@Larxia yeah, I really feel you. I fell in love with Nomura vision of the game. The city that never sleeps... The invasion, everything. Versus 13 to the altissia trailer that changes the name to 15 really show what I love about this game. I think after that it really just changed and sadly there was nothing to do about it. Tabata while I respect for managing such a dispirited team with a buggy engine and a lot of concepts that were never fully realized. He did good, ffxv one of my favorite games in a personal level it's like my comfort game. The brotherhood, camping and worldly travel of morning to night. Even with all of that I can't understand him. I think he butchered Nomura's vision. Which is why I still love to see insomnia being ported to kh3 like this. I mean we lost the main selling point and so many others. But insomnia was put into a movie and out of petty ness I have never bothered to watch it. Mind you, I've played the game for over 300 hours, pre order for Xbox one with all dlc. Then bought it again for ps4 and lastly for PC. So I can play a little with better performance. I've cried to the ending, loved the dlc. I remember counting days to release, watching trailers everyday, replaying the platinum demo a million times. That insomnia fight with the iron giant was literally bliss. We never got that in the original bc by the time we get there the city is over. Thank God for the Ardyn dlc and royal edition extra dungeon for giving us something. As much as I love this game, I'll always be haunted by it. I keep a picture of the duscae demo of noctis and the gang with me always as like a wallpaper, it's one of my favorite pictures of all time it's like a perfect capture of the vibe I love. To me this was like an awakening of what I really like and so it has stuck by me since middle school.
By picture I mean the official art where noctis is holding a mug with Ignis cooking, prompto holding a plate and gladio looking all poetic or whatever lmao. But that and the screenshots of the guys in insomnia from the versus 13 trailers. The feeling of "I wanna be there" will genuinely never be replaced by it

I really think you should watch Kingsglaive though! I understand the frustration, clearly, but... It's still better than nothing, and the movie is actually good, and it lets you see a lot more of Insomnia. Think of it like watching some new amazing looking trailers of VS XIII / Old XV, except it's a full movie lenght and it's canon with the actual game. It's really worth a look for a XV fan, it's good.

Holy hell the world looks so massive from the skyscraper view. I hope every nook & cranny of it is gonna be explorable in the future. I might finally buy myself a proper PC just for this
I want to make it as open as possible, give players crazy freedom with all types of warps and such. That's why I reworked the top of the citadel a lot to make it good from a player perspective, so it can be an actual good looking playable area.
However, most of Insomnia is low res background stuff, so not everything will be fully detailed, I will try to expand it in ways I can, but there will be a limit obviously. I'm not sure how I will handle the limits of the map for now, if I let everyone keep exploring everything despite it not being high res (but people might think the mod feel unfinished if I do that), or if I add actual barriers arround the polished playable area.

The mod really makes you FEEL like the kingdom's heart.
1:01 Man. Seeing bigger bosses like Darkside or Demon Tide in the Citadel really goes hard. Like, the scale of this is just super impressive. This is definitely a day-one download for me.
Question: is this an entirely new world or is this an overhaul for San Fransokyo? Great work my guy and I can’t wait for the full thing!

Was I the only one expecting Scala eCaelum from KH3 (the end game area) to be as big as
and nuanced as some of the FF15 towns?
I think the Remind version of it is pretty good, it's was decently sized, more than I expected given the little you do in it actually. I just wish there was more to do inside of it to make a better use of that area, and even if it makes sense it's empty, I wish it was filled with life, npcs etc, to make it a more enjoyable place to revisit.

The Heartless Swarm fighting Sora over Insomnia is some of the most Versus XIII shit I’ve ever seen so long!
First off, this looks way better than it has any right to. It's honestly amazing. I've actually always hoped someone could get around to doing this, but figured it was a pipedream because of all the work that would be involved in it.
One question, though: have you given any thought to creating night version, somewhere down the line? I'm assuming that's a "no," since there's not really any unruined nighttime Insomnia assets you can pull from (except for the background in the Platinum Demo, I guess). But still, Insomnia and night is just a whole vibe I'd really love to see more of.

those first 2 airstep jumps are neat,but i think you'll need to add some kind of pole, not for the spinning flowmotion, just for more visual and clarity in your level design. overall fantastic work dude!

Looks really good so far! Could use some post-processing though, like more than "just" the sun lamp (not trying to discredit your work!). Even some simple color correction could go a long way.

If you were to gather the structure from the main game, episode ardyn, and ruin town map data, you get the great sample and create the dream scape of what FF XV could have been and have, a fully explored insomnia

its hard to estimate how big this really is and how "filled" the world will be, but it looks pretty amazing
It's a step by step thing, for now I'm trying to restore as much as I can of Insomnia, even expanding some areas etc, and after that I'll see what more I could add to improve it, content wise.
About the size of it, it's not that huge, I'd say it's a surface similar to san fransokyo, something like that? But more dense with more small streets etc.

Noctis is the only character I don't think Sora could beat for some reason. Giving how much crazy stuff Sora fights I don't think Sora could defeat Noctis at his full potential.

you really easily forget how good FFXV was in its own way, just good solid fun monster hunting with your 3 pals and listen to like, the greatest piece of music in video games.

This mod looks amazing, and I hope you will finish it.
And I hope that Square Enix will include FFXV in Kingdom Hearts as it is the "Final fantasy for Fans and First-Timers". And since Kingdom Hearts 3 closed the first chapter of the Kingdom Hearts Saga, KH4 would be the perfect opportunity to add new Final Fantasy reps other than from FFVII or FFVIII into the mix.

There are other videos more recent than this video, the "Versus XIII Tribute trailer" video is my favorite one as I'm showing the vibe I want for it. It takes a long time but it's getting there.

Sora's appearance really do fit a non-disney world... truly a shame about kh3 tho, they really invested most of it on filler disney worlds just to stretch the pacing and game length
It's true that KH3 mostly felt like a filler. I still really enjoyed it and had ton of fun, and I love the world of Tangled as a fan of that franchise, but yes, there was a heavy filler vibe. I always wished KH had some FF worlds too, and I was sad by the lack of FF content in KH3. With this mod I want to try to bring more FF to KH3, and also finally let people explore Insomnia before it's destroyed, something we could sadly never do in the original.

Imagine Kh4 allows you too move EVERY tiny bit of Quadratum or at least makes a questlog to get acces of EVERY tiny bit of Quadratum

looks better than what we got in the actual trailer of KH4. The colors so far in KH4 trailers are so muted and dull that Sora sticks out in a bad way
dude we’re literally watching kingdom hearts 4 gameplay just missing whatever dora’s new combat kit will be. this is jaw dropping. the scale works so well and i think the cityscape somehow works the best any world ever has w/ sora’s human model . it’s really like despite whatever Happened with the Versus 13/XV debacle nomura still gets to have his way in a very full circle style. it’s beautiful

AHHHHH I wish we got a fully explorable version of insomnia at the start ff15 before the imperials screwed the place up. Doing small sidequests as noctis with the guys. Driving around in the regalia with a weather system (mainly so it can rain) . Also being able to freely explore the citadel with people walking about. And maybe even more of it
