This delicious recipe is perfect for those looking to create a whimsical and delicious treat that will bring a smile to everyone's face.
Here is your list of ingredients:
8 ounces of Unsalted Butter Land O'Lakes
2 - 10 ounces bags of mini marshmallows (I use jet-puffed)
10 cups of Rice Krispie cereal
Bonus and Extra Ingredients:
Americolor Tulip Red Gel Color
Pre-cut Parchment Paper
Half Sheet Trays
Minnie Mouse Sandwich Cutter
Mickey Mouse Sandwich Cutter
Heart Shape Sandwich Cutter
Wilton Sprinkles
Le Creuset Dutch Oven
*Brown the Butter:* In the Dutch oven, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, continue cooking the butter, stirring frequently, until it turns a golden brown color and develops a nutty aroma. Be careful not to burn the butter; this process should take about 5-7 minutes.
*Add Marshmallows:* Once the butter is browned, reduce the heat to low and add the marshmallows to the Dutch oven. Stir constantly until the marshmallows are completely melted and smooth. This should take about 3-5 minutes. (add your color if you want to die the marshmallow)
*Incorporate Rice Krispies:* Remove the Dutch oven from the heat, make sure the marshmallows are no longer hot, and quickly stir in the Rice Krispies cereal until it is evenly coated with the melted marshmallow mixture. Work swiftly, as the mixture will begin to set as it cools. If you want to have chucks of marshmallow, this is when you do it.
*Press into Pan:* Transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish or pan. You can also use my method of placing parchment paper down on the dish using a Pam spray and then spray the top before you put the mixture on the pan. You can use a spatula or wax paper to press the mixture evenly into the pan, spreading it to your desired thickness.
*Cool and Serve:* Allow the Rice Krispie treats to cool at room temperature for at least 30 minutes or until they are firm and set. Once cooled, cut into squares or rectangles and serve. If you want to cut shapes out of it, allow it to cool for 1 hour. Then, cut out the shapes that you desire.
* Dip and Decorate:* If you wish to include white chocolate as a topping for your Rice Krispie treats, you can use Ghirardelli wafers or candy melts. To melt them, heat the wafers or candy in the microwave for 30-second intervals, stirring in between. Once melted, let it cool slightly and then dip the Rice Krispie treat in the chocolate. If you want to add any toppings, do so immediately after dipping.
*Optional:* For added flavor and texture, mix in ingredients such as chocolate chips, nuts, or dried fruit before pressing the mixture into the pan.
*Storage:* Store any leftover Rice Krispie treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. If desired, you can also freeze them for longer storage.
