OH MY GOD OH MY GOD THANK THANK THANK YOU TO HAVE UPLOADED THIS AMAZING I WAS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING LIVE OF THAT TIMES FROM MORE THAN A DECADE!!!! THANKS THANKS THANKS 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thank you! This brings back so many memeories of the A.D. Tour for me.. I also wish it was a better quality of video/audio, but you take what you can get, when you aren't supposed to be getting in the first place - believe me, I know! You succeeded in obtaining a memory, where many of us failed...
Singer-songwriter Syreeta Wright is the actress who performs the role of Mary Magdalene, she joined the cast in 1993 when the tour originally started, but left in 1995.
Mary - Syreeta Wright Pilate - James O Neil Herod - Laurent Giroux Caiaphas - David Bedella Annas - Larry Zolli Peter - Kevin Wright Simon - Stephen Ward
Because that's how Tim Rice wrote the lyric originally. He changed it in the mid-to-late '90's. They couldn't change it here - because that would have been illegal.
I mean… the bible basically starts off with 2 people in the nude and churches are full of artwork of naked people. I’m more surprised that in a modern theater piece the cast isn’t just full on banging each other.
This video is in very poor condition. Likely due to the age of the performance and/or the original recording device. I also think the stage lighting was not the best. Regarding the performance itself, I can only rate it as mediocre, compared to the one I was in, and the many others I’ve seen. I can understand the need for sound enhancement, but this could have been achieved by body mics. The use of hand mics is terribly distracting. It’s difficult to lose yourself in a piece when suddenly characters break out with hand mics. As a singer, I am all for a bit of stylizing to make a song your own, but not to the degree shown here. I believe without exception, every lead character sang at least a full measure behind what was originally written. This is one of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s masterpieces. I believe it should have kept up with the original tempo. Frankly, I’m surprised the MD allowed for this slaughter of one of Sir Webber’s absolute best. I have a deep love for stage productions, and for this “rock opera” in particular. It was the first musical I ever had the pleasure of being in, so it holds a particular soft spot for me. Although they may be hard to find on the internet, there are other productions and other versions from which to choose. I’m sorry to the participants of this one because this is not personal, but I cannot recommend this performance. There are others out there that are better worth one’s time. Happy Easter, y’all! 🛐🙏🏼✝️
This isn’t Mozart. It’s a rock opera. Interpretation and improvisation are more than welcome. This is also the reason for hand and head mics: the concept of the original album is that Jesus was the first “rock star.” The mics aren’t “distracting,” they’re part of the staging. If you’re being taken out of the moment you need to remember you’re watching “Jesus Christ Superstar” and not “Jesus of Nazareth”
I saw this production....Carl and Ted both got standing ovations DURING THE SHOW... but yeah, go off... I'm sure the production you were in far surpassed the brilliance of Ted and Carl 🤪🥴🙄
They got rid of the hand mics later in the tour. When I saw it in 95, it was all headset. Today, I can see some of the flaws with the production… but it was Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson. I will never forget the experience of seeing them live together. They have tried reviving JCS on Broadway a few times and it always failed. How come they never tried reviving it with Ted and/or Carl in the lead roles? This tour really drew well, and so did the tour that Ted did from 2006 through 2009. With Ted, JCS could’ve had a decent Broadway run…. but it just never did well on Broadway.
Thank you for sharing this video. Love Ted Neeley, RIP Carl Anderson. ❤️🌹

Back when Ted had serious power behind that scream!

I think Mary on this tour was originally the late Irene Cara.
thank you for this❤️❤️❤️
Mary - Syreeta Wright
Pilate - James O Neil
Herod - Laurent Giroux
Caiaphas - David Bedella
Annas - Larry Zolli
Peter - Kevin Wright
Simon - Stephen Ward
Danny Zolli as Annas. Not Larry.
Wow, David Bedella was young!

Gracias por este video....Ted y Carl

35:36 Why do they keep that lyric? 'See *HIS* Tongue *HE* can hardly talk' makes more sense
Newer performances do usually use “see his tongue”
Because that's how Tim Rice wrote the lyric originally. He changed it in the mid-to-late '90's. They couldn't change it here - because that would have been illegal.
@@gasmmusic it doesn't really make since for him to sing if he can hardly talk tho
@@gasmmusicThey did take some artistic liberties. The little interlude at 37:30 was not part of the original score.

I know... I'm in tears! 🤩
What have nude people to do with JCS?
Adam and Eve were nude...
I mean… the bible basically starts off with 2 people in the nude and churches are full of artwork of naked people. I’m more surprised that in a modern theater piece the cast isn’t just full on banging each other.

About the tempo, i think the band was going too fast imo.
You seriously think your cast outdid ted neeley and carl anderson?
