@Beathoven music I can't reply directly to you, probably because my youtube is connected to my google plus. But if you manage to read this, I wanted to demonstrate the progression of getting to a fully conditioned liproll and the side where it is deeper doesn't represent what my liprolls sounded like when I first began doing them. the weaker side is more of a guide to see if you're doing it right when you keep doing it over and over again
@The Flash I can't reply to your comment directly so hopefully you see this! The liproll isn't concentrated more towards the upper or lower lip, it's the oscillation that happens between the lips. Although I guess depending on your lip shape and and what you're comfortable with, if the oscillation leans over to one lip more than the other, just go with it
Been trying to get liprolls working for like a month now, just found this vid and started practicing and already getting better day by day. Thanks alot for sharing and putting effort in making this video! Big up the beatbox community!!
I genuinely think this is the sound that's the hardest to learn in beatboxing, and certainly the most frustrating... I'm practicing for litterally 2 months now and i still can't do it :$
Sep Terstal When I first heard the clickroll sound, I literally thought it would be really complicated, but surprisinglyly, it only took me less than a week to get it. My first attempt = coughing like crazy.
Took me a week and a half and finally have the sound correctly done holy shiit takes dedication. For others that want to learn it I found a tip is that you will find the vibration closer to the middle of your lip and not as close to the side. Take your time though
While im watching this tutorial i kind a like sound a lip roll,Thank you for making this tutorial I learn something. All got to do is Keep practiceng.THIS VIDEO MAKES A LOT TO ME.
Holy crap I think I'm getting it. I've watched this video about 10 times over the last 3 weeks, and I think I'm actually starting to get it. My jaw hurts. Thank you!!! 🤙🏼💜
Awesome video. I like how you used your non-trained side to demonstrate that it is okay to make that farting sound that everyone makes, at first. Best lip-roll tutorial video, ever. Great job!
Grippy Zippy Hmm I don't know man...I too have just learnt this a few days ago and I'm trying to figure out the concept. Maybe you just have to tighten the parts of your lips which you're not using?
I watched like 4 other videos today and your explanation helped me get it. Only about 2 hours in right now but I'm getting it to sound deeper and deeper
VP from CSUN Acasola here! Heard you a couple times at CAF and I just wanted to say that this is probably one of the best lip roll tutorials in my opinion because it's so honest! And the way you show how it's gonna sound when we begin to try to do it and what we should strive to initially sound like by using the other side of your mouth is genius! Thanks, Julia! :D
I am a 41 year old blind guy. I have been beatboxing since I was 11. I was tought by some of the best, but until today I didn't even *know* about the lip roll, and thought beatboxers were doing all that with their voices. I am thrilled to find out how much there still is to learn.
So how did you type this then? I'm probably being very ignorant right now but please explain how he would be able to type this out if he was really blind
I had always thought that seeing so much of the side of people's lips was an angle thing, either to explain or to put the louder part of the sound closer to the microphone. Just now I watched this video and saw "tighten the opposite side of our lips" and decided to take it super literally. I stretched my face into a bit of an uncomfortable position and tried the same thing I have been doing for a couple of weeks: "Whoa! That's it!". Still not quite there, I am still frequently getting the not quite so awesome sound I was doing before, but I've only been at it for a few minutes and I've got the right sound about half the time.
You are first person who tell how to do it from noob position im at this position and i was always think wtf i never get it bcz its always wrong sound but u show it and now i know thats this but need practice. Thx for help Now i go learn it again
I finally learnt it today after a month, I have been beatboxing for 3 years non stop and when I came across Napom I had to learn it and I finally did now I have to learn the inward
Lars van Koningsveld same i have the technique down now, i started like 2 and a half month ago. i read comments like julie's all the time and every time i read one my mind tells me that's bullshit lol. there's no way
Ramses Burgerding I learned the liproll in a few hours as well. Some noises can just come to you m8. I only learned inward bass yesterday and it's monstrously deep. :D Liprolls are starting to get overused and basic anyways, so who reeeaaallly cares? XDD
Do you use your tongue at all? I've been practicing the liproll for 15 days now and the only way I can draw air in without using my lungs is dropping my jaw but I don't use my tongue at all and the sound produced by the oscillations of my lips is much much deeper than what (example 0:18 on your vid) I see on tutorials.
Like you said, there are dozens of other tutorials out there, but this is the first one I've watched where i really get the technique, you explain it really well, thanks for this, time for some practice!
ICameISawIBeatboxed This is way better than the other tutorials! A few minutes of watching i'm kind of getting the hang of it, but how do I loosen it up?
+Berdan Crispy Crunch Not sure why you're so adamant about this guy just giving her a compliment. I'll say it, She's beautiful. But that doesn't mean I want to go out with her. Why can't people just compliment eachother? But to the video-ist, Awesome video! I now know how to make a fart-like sound! xD Nah, Good tutorial though. :)
The out and in technique seems to be working well. Accidentally got the sound going out. Haven't been able to do it again but only been trying since last night.
I had tried to do it and I couldn't, but when she mentioned the fact that she had a favorite side I was like WAIT A MINUTE!!! and now I can so lol thanks a lot❤
Why is every lip roll you do on the right side and then your deepest lip roll is on the left? I know you said you do your lip rolls on the left but why are the other ones on the right? You can't do your "not as good" lip rolls on your left or something? Does the side of your lip rolls change during practice? I don't know just thought I'd ask.
I think my lip roll is progressing slowly to what yours sounds like. As I get looser and looser though, I find that my tongue position seems to be important? Its just like u know when teachers gives you homework and then you make your lips in the front flap, like u cant be bothered to do ur homework. SO its basically just like lip base but its like what she said it has to be loose. but your making air on your mouth or on your tongue then just release the air like how u do the water droplet sound.
Is that good if my jaw and face hurts as fuck when i'm trying to do mouth position? I move my lower jaw to the left then I'm trying to do some sound on the right side. This is very hard...
As you progress with the sound do you try to loosen you lips a bit into a rounder shape or do you just let it happen over time? Great tutorial by the way!
For me, it happened over time it happened naturally. It was a little difficult for me to keep the oscillation whilst trying to open the inside wider at first, but as you do it more it'll be easier keeping the oscillation more consistent as you get to the deeper tones. Glad this tutorial helps!
Alexander Wardill as you start to loosen the sound, you'll notice that the side that the sound ISN'T coming from is going to get tighter because your lips will need to make space for the oscillation on the side the lip roll is happening. You might notice that the side that you aren't doing the lip roll will start to cramp a little, this is normal and you'll get used to it!
Hey if you have a cross jaw, will it be more difficult to do this sound? Because I have one, and I can do the inward liproll but can't seem to get a normal liproll.
i feel like im getting closer, trying to loosen my lips. my bottom lip is kinda tucked under my upper lip on my left side, and the right side my bottom lip petrudes further out than the top. do you make the sound with the side that the bottom lip sticks out more or from the side that is "tucked in"?
Great tutorial :) outwards one is a sound I've made when I was like 9, didn't even no it was anything then, just bored and making sounds I guess :) over 10 years ago!!
