  • The Canal de l'Alt (or Canal del Canuto) is considered the Pyrenees longest couloir, with 900 vertical meters. It starts right at the summit of Pic de Comapedrosa at 2.945 meters and plummets almost straight down to a plateau at 2.100 meters.
    Ever since I heard about it, I wanted to ski it, and now was the time. We had an amazing day out (even if the snow coverage was low and we had to walk with our skis on our backs for 45 minutes). Unfortunately, the conditions in the lower part of the couloir were pretty horrible (hard, variable snow) and in one jump turn, one of my skis broke the surface crust and made me tumble down. I got really lucky, as I clinged on to a rock before anything worse happened... Not really proud of the descent, accidents happen but all in all a big adventure! I want to ski it in the right conditions someday.
    I was using the K2 Dispatch 101 skis, with Scarpa 4Quattro XT boots.

    I felt every bit of that crust struggle man. Same deal in Ariege last week. So glad you caught yourself, and so happy that you sent it, alone no less! Sometimes I wish I snowboarded so I could go with an axe 🪓 😅
    Anyway congrats man, you must be stoked but also relieved!!

      Yeah it seems like a widespread problem in the Pyrenees, we either have bad snow or no snow at all! Thanks Chase, we have to do something together!

      Thank you Will! I knew I couldn’t break down mentally because I still had a ton to ski down left, it was necessary I guess! 😂

    Scary fall😱

    That looked horrible, such bad snow. You could have seriously injured yourself, bindings locked just before the fall.😮

      True, by the time I reached the middle part it was too dangerous, not something I’d recommend. I locked because losing a ski would also have been fatal, that made my fall even scarier. I was really lucky :)

    How I feel going down the children's alpine hill of 50m vertical on long-ass xc skis. Basically the same (not).

    el video es brutal como el resto que he visto en tu canal que lo acabo de descubrir, lo que me falla es como usas la camara 360. Esos planos casi zenitales que haces me dan muchísimo vertigo y he estado a punto de quitar el video varias veces, no es donde estás sino como se ve por la distorsión de la lente. Igual usarlos como recurso para hacer un momento del video más drámaico le da un punto extra, pero usarlos como b-roll o como cámara 2 lo veo un poco un error, al menos a mi me han dejado mal cuerpo porque en la secuencia en la que bajas parece que te vas de cabeza contra la pendiente y me he puesto malo al verlo jajajaja.

      Gracias! Lo tendré en cuenta sí! También es la única perspectiva que realmente transmite la verticalidad de la actividad

      @hugocidr 9 месяцев назад

      totalmente de acuerdo pero en mi opinión abusar de esa perspectiva puede causar mareos a los que lo ven, usala para planos dramáticos como cuando estás a punto de caerte o cuando empieza la verticalidad a lo bestia, pero para el resto te recomiendo que la uses como una camara normal que puedes reencuadrar donde quieras @@PhilippKlein

    So, how do you like the Scarpa Quattro xt? and what bindings you use with it?

    • @PhilippKlein
      @PhilippKlein  Год назад +1

      Really loving it!!! Super stiff, super light and really not touring worse than my Maestrale XT. For touring I use the Marker Alpinist 12, super reliable binding

    I would bring a potato sack. And if i got into that deep of trouble, i would sit on it and skid down on my butt.

    Oh man…you seem to be missing of the basics.
    ..never ski with your hands in the wrist loops (better leave them at home).
    …practice a pole self arrest every time you go out….I do!
    …get a Whippet Pole attachement.
    That slide could have been serious.

      …but nice run, even if the snow crap.
      I bet your friends had a lovely run down the adjacent face…in the sun
