    Fabulous! There's quite a lot of compensation in steering while flying a DC3. Thanks for posting this video.

    Love this bird!!! I flew Captain with a local freight operation back in the '80s. It was a privilege to fly with a fine bunch of pilots, with a great maintenance team.....

    This an outstanding video depicting what exactly goes on in the Douglas DC-3 cockpit. I am glad that the pilots work on the throttle pedestal was included where the captain is continually adjusting the throttle, propeller pitch, and carburetor mixture controls which is usually not seen on most cockpit videos. I have heard that the flight control characteristics on these planes was a little sluggish on responsiveness and this video proves it. Great work by both pilots on this beautiful old bird!. All I can say is Bravo Zulu!

    i can´t watch this clip without remind when my dad did bring me to his flyings,the noise of the radial engines was deafening but just i a DC-3(C-47) the feel of flying its unique,the view from the passenger seat made me back to those years,thank you for the remind.and the feeling.........

    I've always dreamed of flying one of these. I've trained for hours in a simulator. The startup of this one sounds better than I ever could've imagined.

    This video is one of the best because it shows in detail, what the pilots do to maintain safe flight. Appeared to be a gusty ride as the PIC had his hands full with the big bird.

    Some of the best video views I've seen from inside a plane! She's kind of like a school bus up there in the cockpit....a few more dials, etc.

      @@Manufly59 Oh, I meant to ask you this question. It seemed to me that you kept the plane at a fairly low altitude for the entire flight. Might just be my perspective looking thru your cameras, or a very short flight(?) Seemed like you were almost always over buildings/houses. I just wondered if the folks below complain about the noise & put pressure on all the airport administrators to have all planes skirt around the town(s) and/or cut power down? But yeah, I watch a lot of flying videos (like Kermit cam, etc.) and the view from your camera mounted up/behind the cockpit seats was tremendous & VERY pleasurable for me to watch! Since I'm not a pilot it's the best I can hope for...! :(

      @@boboala1 This was pleasure VFR flight from Utti (EFUT) to Helsinki (EFHF). It takes around 35 minutes and we fly quite low because the cloud base was 1000 ft or less AGL all the time. I was not flying during this video. Both of our pilots what you see in cockpit were retriered DC-3 pilots and later they fly planes like Laerjet and Fokker F27. Thank you for enjoying.

    When did they put two rows of seats on each side?

    • @Manufly59

      This was the original seat configuration when it flies in Aero Oy (around 1950 - 1960).

    let that thing warm up for a bit before you move it, parts will wear faster.

      +sanakassara Kiitos. Matkustamo ja ohjaamo on nykymittapuussa meluisa ja kesällä kuuma, mutta kyllä jokisesta reissusta on silti nauttinut.

    I'm impressed with the constant input needed on the control wheel from the pilot to fly this aircraft, was it a flight with lots of turbulence or its normal for a DC-3?

    • @hydrochloricacid2146
      @hydrochloricacid2146 6 лет назад +2

      The low cruising altitude unfortunately means that yes , there is a lot of turbulence , even on normal flights.
      The constant noise and steering adjustments must've been exhausting for the crew

    Great video! Just love these DC3's.... The view from the center of the cockpit however (starting at 10:00) was waaay better than the view from the co-pilot's right shoulder (no offense)....

    • @Itapirkanmaa2
      @Itapirkanmaa2 8 лет назад +1

      Better than that, become a mechanic instead -- I read the people running OH-LCH are soon facing the decision whether to continue running the plane as there are now less and less people qualified to repair the DC-3. Piloting skills for the DC-3 are relatively easy to acquire.
