Bucks memories are fading but his infectious brave spirit shines through when he tells his stories! Wish I could sit down with Buck, buy him a beer and shake his hand. What a legend!
Thank you, JD, for bringing Buck's memories and steel-strong spirit to us. Thank you, Buck, for sharing your story with us. To you and your 2nd Division brothers, you are all, truly, SECOND TO NONE.
WHAT YOU AND BIGGIO DO!!!! I can't imagine the logistics of all this but at the end of the day how great must it be...and you bring such wondrous men like Buck to us...Blessed we are to have you JD.
History Traveler does it again! 👍🇺🇸🇫🇷 Thank you JD and Andrew but a very special thank you to Buck! Amazing memory and a very good song writer and singer. God bless them all for saving freedom!
Just stumbled across your channel. I have a property about 10kms away from Saint mere Eglise. I fully intend to watch all your videos so very informative 👍. Keep up the fantastic work 👏
If not for you JD and others capturing these moments with Buck and the others at Normandy these stories would be lost. I thank you for all you do and I know everyone else feels the same way.
My grandpa was an officer in the 9th Infantry Regiment 2nd Infantry Division and fought from D+1- VE Day. Wounded twice. He was damn proud to wear the Indian Head mainly because his dad, my great grandfather served in the 9th Infantry Regiment 2nd Division during WW1. It always gives me chills listing to Buck play. The boys of the 2nd Infantry Division have some of the greatest sense of pride and camaraderie I’ve ever experienced I’ll tell you.
Wow! Great content builds all the way through and when Buck performs his song I got the chills. Great stories, great song and thank you Buck for featuring gating for our freedom.❤
Thanks, JD. Great work as always. Another veteran you may want to visit is E Carver McGriff. 90th Division - Utah Beach on D Day +2. A retired Methodist pastor who lives in Indianapolis. 99 years old and wrote an excellent book, Making Sense of Normandy; a Young Man’s Journey of War and Faith. A profound perspective.
I can't imagine what it's like for these veterans to go back 80 years in time to their youth and the horrors of war. This is probably the last chance for us to experience and hear these Veterans stories while they are still with us. I grew up surrounded by neighbors who were WW2 veterans when I was a kid. They've all passed away but their memories and stories stay with me. Hard to believe time passes so quickly for us all.
What a story ! Thank you JD but thank u more Buck Sloan!! That was Incredible,he had me on the edge of my seat the whole time,I couldn't wait to hear wat else he was gonna say ,incredible! The Greatest Generation!!!
June 6th was an incredibly hot day. Transportation to and from the cemetery was pretty awful, but complex with +- 5000 people being there, but man I checked off a bucketlist item of being there on the 6th. Sadly we were somewhere in the middle, we couldn't see the podium but the applause for every single veteran was insane and the F35 missing man formation fly-over was eardeafening. It was an honor to be present that day, will cherish that for the rest of my life! Definitely shed a few tears here and there.
the interview was AMAZING withi Buck...almost unbelievable but you know its true..speechless...wish I could shake his hand..was in the 2ID myself...makes me proud that someone like him came b4 me and wore the patch ..2nd to None
I wish I could meet Buck and speak to him in person. My father was in the 2nd Infantry Division and landed on Omaha beach. Unfortunately, he passed in 1967 when I was an infant and never got to grow up with him and learn what he experienced. I do know he joined the army when he was 16 early 1942. He lied about his age. I always wanted to meet someone who served with him. When tried to obtain info from the VA they told me that a lot of the detailed information was lost in a fire in the archive storage facility in St Louis Missouri. Buck and all those who served and are serving today are hero’s and are the true patriots for democracy.
God bless the "Finest Generation". These men changed the outcome of the war. My late Dad served too, fighting in his Corsair from the VBF-1 fighter/bomber squadron in the Pacific.
I was with the 2nd Infantry Division while I was stationed in South Korea with the Army from 93-94. Thank you Buck for the song you wrote about that division. Hearing his stories makes me proud to have been with that division.
I thought that ww1 was the last time opposing armies played music together from different battle lines! I think that was my favorite part of Buck's stories, that and his song was "second to none". Don't forget B-17 airman Bud's song from one of JD's earlier videos. Also, I am reminded of the Gettysburg reunion footage from the 75th anniversary in 1938. Talk about how history repeats itself!
I love hearing vets tell the story of their experiences. It seems they appreciate someone asking them to share, even if it may be difficult to relive the events. It is great to see these men receiving the honor they deserve for their bravery and sacrifice.
Thanks JD for another first rate video and covering this part of history that many folks would have never known about. I SALUTE you for your passion for the preservation and for sharing with us the military history of our great United States.
Thank you for presenting these brave survivors of WW2. As a boy and teenager I was neighbors with some WW1 veterans and enjoyed the information of their service. After my tour with the USCG I joined our local American Legion post and was honored to be in contact with the men and women who served during WW2 and the Korean War. My uncles served during WW2 but didn't speak about their time in the Pacific theater and Aluetian islands. Being a vet and a member of the American Legion I was privy to the details of service of our fellow legionnaires. All are gone now. JD, you have a top notch history channel and I enjoy it immensely. Take care and may God's blessings be with you.😎🚂🚃🚃🚃✝
Seeing the look on Buck's face when he was at those tunnels was just priceless while he was being told about his fellow soldier being taken care of by the community that the soldier had saved through Allied Forces winning D-Day 1944. I'm so grateful that there are videos like this to share stories like Buck's so that they're not lost to history. The fact that this channel did a first round with four D-Day vets is really awesome and I really wish that the first round of vets could have met these four so that all 8 veterans could swap stories for the 80th anniversary of D-Day. I'm sure that the vet who passed away recently was at the 80th D-Day celebration in France in spirit. May his memory be for a blessing!! Thanks for posting this and all your videos as always JD!! This channel is awesome and I look forward to the video that you post about the GMOH annex grand opening!!
I am sitting at work on my lunch break and am finding myself getting choked up with this one. Having unexpected emotions. The men and women of this conflict are all fading away into history. This really is the last great ceremony and event with these men
WOW what a fantastic guy. Just love these veterans. Buck can remember his service so well. I guess it was so traumatic it stuck (haunted) these guys memories all their lives. Bless you JD and Andrew for allowing us to be part of those who are able to hear men like Buck and all the others you have recorded in recent months. UK
This is very special! How wonderful to bring him back to the place and show him the monument I teared up! Very special. And recording his stories like this? Brilliantly special Thank you JD!
The memories, scars, monuments, the physical aspects of that war we do not live with as the people in Europe do. It is by the wonderful capture and presentation of their legacy and sacrifice can we possibly appreciate what was done for us!! Thank you for your story telling!!
Such a good series! D-day at 80! Thanks, JD, for recording & documenting these first-person accounts! Any chance on getting some Pacific Theater coverage over the next year & a half? Keep up the great work!
Fantastic job JD, Andrew and the rest for respecting and bringing back these vets. So cool, yet so sad as so few left. Another well done video capturing the part of the visit. Thank you and thank the vets
Many thanks JD for your coverage of D-day 80 I'm in the UK and for ever thankful to the guys in the US who came over and fought from the Normandy landings. great to see the vets and the memories they share had an uncle who was involved in D-day with the R E M E
It's about time the Brits acknowledge the help they received from the USA in WW II and our saving their Butts from the Nazi's !!! you are welcome......
Sad to think all these men who sacrificed so much will all soon be gone along with their stories. We as a world should honor and thank these heroes while they are still here. We all need to remember "Freedom is not Free" These men payed a heavy price.
These are great men, true heroes my father was a navy vet on the Enterprise, my uncle flew B 17 over Europe. Both lived into their 90s both have passed my father carried the scars from that war. Unfortunately I was not close to my uncle so ever heard his story of the war, my father talked very little about his experiences. Sometimes he would talk about a friend long gone.
I would suggest that all watching this program check out a Beautiful singing tribute to the Veterans of WWII and all wars by a trio of siblings, 2 guys and a girl , LIFE IN 3D, their 2 great grand fathers and a great uncle were veterans, they beautifully sang the song THE LAST GOODBYE, as pictures of hundreds of vets were flashed on the screen, sent in by their viewers, they sang this for Memorial Day 2024, it is here on You Tube. It is fantastic that the young ones of today remember and honor those that served and fought !!! Thank you Daylon, Daura, and Devon Veater, Life in 3 D, of Arizona usa. I should add they did a follow up because they received so many pictures, the second is an instrumental and the pictures.
