I met Buck at the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge while I was in Bastogne. I remember shaking his hand, and he signed a helmet I had brought. Glad to see he’s still with us at 100 years young!
Thank you for sharing this once in a lifetime experience. This WWII veteran is a treasure trove of experiences and information. I thank him for his service to our country. My dad served in the US Navy during WWII on an aircraft carrier. That generation sacrificed so much for our present day freedoms. The entire world is indebted to them.

Thanks, this has been a precious gift, I’m not related to war veterans, but I have learned the blessings of our freedom relies on the sacrifice of the fallen heroes, and legends like the 4 gentlemen you have honored in Normandy. I’m wonder the friendship between the veterans once they made home.
As a veteran myself, and a fellow guitarist I was so moved by this man's tribute to his 2nd Division and his memories of the 2nd World War. was particularly touched by his lady signing with him. God bless him.
Hearing the inspiration for those songs was great - especially the biscuits at 100 one. Tje almost forgotten song needs to be published. It just might be Buck's singing that keeps him going so strong. Keep on singing Buck...
Buck is the epitome of forever young. God bless him and as a fellow musician, I only hope I can play as good and sing as good as him if I make it to 100!
What a beautiful legacy of endurance preserved for the world. I pray that we as humans learn from the choices made. A decision put this man in a historic event and it still affects us today. Thank u for sharing. Absolutely wonderful!
Tears in my eyes. He's the same age as my long-gone dad, who also landed at Normandy (not on D-Day) as a combat engineer. Dad's been gone nearly 40 years and I wish we could have gotten him to talk more about the war. He did leave us a watercolor painting called "ETO Nighmare" painted on VE Day using "liberated" materials but we never got him to decode the images into the stories behind them. Peace unto all who served in WWII.
My grandfather was in WW1 and WW2. In the US cavalry in WW1. IN WW2 in the navy as a telegrapher. He played the guitar, ukulele and spoons. We had him 94 years.
My favorite song was the one about the 2nd Division. Once Buck started singing it, I told all the guys who are from that division who have passed on that that song was for them as a tribute for what they did to help the Allied Forces win WW2. Thanks for posting this video because I think it's great that Buck did this!! 2nd Division is truly 2nd to none!! I hope all is going well with the finishing touches for the GMOH annex to be open soon!! Sending good vibes for the GMOH annex!!
It’s not about the war, it’s about the men who fought. Very soon their voices will be silent. With every anniversary and the videos you produce I’m awe struck by the veterans still with us. I’m 63 and I suffer from arthritis and at times I find my memory a little lacking. I’m impressed by these gentlemen. Thanks JD for documenting these brave warriors.
In 2022 I went to Normandy for the first time and bumped in to Buck at Pointe du Hoc. Halfway Pointe du Hoc I saw the golf cart that he was driven around in crash (very slowly) in to an obstacle on the road. We only had some eye contact and he gave me a simple nod of approval. But I was starstruck and it was an amazing moment for me. Thank you for your service Mr. Sloan!
dear readers in all of the stories told we can only draw one line in all of them the miss the guys that saved them one day and then were killed the next day, month etc etc so that is why it is so important that this is noted by you and all of the other veterans have all the same stories and it is important that we never forget because these people are the key to the friend that they lost like in the Band of Brothers
My Grandfather never talked about what he seen or did when he was over there. I also never asked. I do know I have an (great) uncle who is still missing in action. Thank you all who served.
