Been lifting for 15 years, approximately 9 months switched to carnivore and very little carbs. Maybe 10-20 carbs for 2-3 days. Measured myself and do stay in ketosis. I have to say it has allowed me to be stronger and better endurance. If I did 315 bench, 6 reps first set, maybe 6 second. 3rd set I fall off to 4 reps. But now, I can do 6-7 reps, 45 second rest and back to 6-7 reps. And can do 6 sets like this. I just can’t believe how ketogenic adaptation can give you strength and endurance. Feel good. I don’t think my muscles are getting bigger but they are getting more dense and harder.

i work out at home so i feel like i *can* take longer rest periods if i need to and it works really well for me. being FRESH for each set works really well for me and i don't feel dog-tired at the end which is really helping me stay consistent.

Remember folks, muscle contraction is a neurological phenomenon, and resting is a great way to help the nervous system get ready for more intensity. Of course your muscles will hold you back through pain and fatigue, yet it is your nervous system that does all of the work, especially the coordination.

One thing I will say is that when you are resting 2-3 min between sets, you can walk/pace for active recovery.
Nobody at the gym does this. All they do is sit and scroll being sedentary AF. The walking is so low intensity that it doesn't affect your strength for sets. But after 60-75 min of lifting, you've added thousands of steps to your daily total.

This episode hits home pretty fast. I've been trying to figure out how to get my boys to understand the importance of rest periods and how they work for improvement and recovery. Thank you so much for that!!
And for me rhe first question about sleep is right up my alley as I work nights driving around 11Hours a day and have almost the same problem with sleep. I wake up and have trouble getting back to sleep.
I never thought of my driving being a stress that could cause those kinds of problems. I'm definitely going to go from Maps aesthetic to Maps 15 to lower my training volume and get more sunlight to see if it helps.
This episode has been very helpful. I know I definitely appreciate everything you guys do and this is by far the best ever. Your episodes never get old. And I love being able to go back to the library of episodes to see things I might have missed . Your all great!!

Sal’s got a great idea though - I’m not much for conversation in the gym but massage, myofascial release would definitely get me through the rest periods. That's fine. But just be sure to understand that the results in terms of losing body fat may not be optimal. So if you find that it's hard to lose stubborn body fat then know that if it has to do with the rest periods you stay consistent in that stance.

my question for anyone, when resting, what if you did a circuit but did a different muscle.... still giving that particular muscle a break? would that particular energy system still be affected?...? or would it be affected per muscle or the body entirely (if you understand what I'm asking)

    • @j_scribs
      @j_scribs 10 дней назад +1

I've been wondering the same thing. I do workouts in blocks, maybe like 3-4 different workouts in a particular block. I also set it up so that I'm never focusing on the same muscle or muscle group back to back within the block.
I've been implementing a 60sec rest period between workouts in the block (thinking that the next muscle I'm going to workout should already be mostly rested). But tbh I'm not sure if that's enough or if it's even necessary. Would love for mindpump to provide some feedback on this 👀

@j_scribs I'm glad I'm not the only one wondering, cuz what if someone was trying to add more volume in their week by doing legs between upper body sets. So for example hitting shoulder press, and then hitting hack squats or something... Each getting a two minute rest 🤔🤔🤔

I have never been consistently sick as when I was a bank teller handling cash. Even working in a school with kids. Cash is NASTY and the rules that actually qualify a bill to be sent back to the treasury as "mutilated" was pretty high. I received bills with quesitionable stains which I assumed were blood. I had a lady bring in wadsss of cash that she kept in a plant pot that got soaked in a flood and it smelled soooo bad. I'm sure there were mold spores all over it. So gross.

27:57 so like, do you guys just believe that the mass graves happening during the pandemic was a lie, or did your amnesia skip over that bit? Not sure I'm as confident as you lot about what the right response was in 2020.

Flamethrowers are banned in the Geneva Convention, but you can buy a flamethrowing dog for home protection!

The reciprocal cringe of the superficial girls seeing the lambo is to then learn that the dude rented the lambo for that purpose.... double douping! lol

It would be awesome if you could get Johann Hari on the show! He’s written a book about ozempic (“magic pill”) and has great insights but I think he might be missing the building muscle part, so it could be an interesting conversation!

The fitness and health topics are always great, but whenever they go off topic into politics etc it can get wonky.
I mean, they should know that looking at one poll for RFK isnt exactly solid to base anything off of.
Most other polls show varying support for Biden and Trump. What is generally true is that most poeple do not like either of them.
