David is one of the most genuinely funny people. I love how his humor caught Seth completely off guard!
His appearance on the Conan podcast is a great listen, very thoughtful and interesting guy
The always ready Seth Meyers being caught off guard is just a delightful moment. Bravo, David.
David Sedaris.. is the sweetest guy. Years ago he did a week long series of readings to benefit an after school program for underserved children in the Tenderloin District of SF.. I will forever be grateful for his generosity of time and spirit.
This whole family is amazing. Whatever happened to them in their childhood makes them say the most random, unexpected, hilarious, sometimes completely inappropriate things...and I'm here for all of it!!!
You can't kill the rooster.
You should read one of his books - you'll get a pretty good idea of what his family is like lol
That's the most David Sedaris quote that David Sedaris could bring
Just casually throwing out one of the best joke delieveries I've ever heard. There was almost an anti-laugh as the audience had to draw breath.
Completely! The sound of the audience reaction was great. 😅 That joke landed multiple times in one go, like a skipping stone.
My GOD..."and I still have to split the royalties " funniest line I've heard in years!...I couldn't even laugh at first, in shock...and then a Loud gaffaw came out my mouth... the delivery was so perfect!😂😂😂
That moment of “Did he just say what I thought he said…?” Followed by “Of course he did - he’s David Freaking Sedaris!”
Why on earth would you be shocked by that? I am more shocked he has to split royalties with a dead man! He was simply stating fact. Wouldn't YOU be annoyed?
I've read/watched interviews with David Sedaris for many years, but this one is my favorite. I had to replay his dark royalty comment again - mainly to watch Seth's reaction.
David's snark is off the scale. I have listened to so much of his stuff. Very entertaining and thought provoking.
I knew David and Hugh in NYC when we were young and just starting out. I'm watching this and still completely awestruck how it just flows out of him without ever missing a beat......
Have read all his books - mainly, I think, because he is such a huge RELIEF from - well ... from everything else. The best and greatest funny person I've ever encountered. His remark about having to share the royalties ... WOW!!
David Sedaris’ voice is so calming…reminds me of my childhood with NPR!
Sedaris is a world treasure.
You are right. He is truly a treasure. Don't believe there is anyone in the western world like him. His sister Amy comes closest perhaps.
I once stood in line for 2 hours to meet and get my books autographed by David. At the 45 minute mark, I wondered to myself "Is this going to be worth it?" But at that point, I decided to stick it out and let me tell you... IT WAS MORE THAN WORTH IT. It was a fantastic 2 minutes of awkward fun chat and now every chance I get... I will stick it out in that autograph line for David Sedaris.
absolutely! literally one of the best experiences of my life was meeting Sedaris when I was 17. I told him I was nervous to meet him and had wrote a letter for him in the car otw to the reading and he took it and told me to slap him because "you can't be nervous around someone you've slapped" lol I did not wanna hurt him but he coaxed me into it, I very gently tapped his left cheek lmao it broke the ice and he signed my book "to Shelby, you slapped me. Damn you." and gave me a bracelet from a museum gift shop
David is an amazing human being. I saw him on tour in Vegas...he spent HOURS signing books with fun little drawings and little comments. Amazing!
He's not wrong. As a young adult when I couldn't afford tv or internet, I became a huge reader. And ever since I've loved reading. Kinda like I used to hate drinking water, but after that summer study abroad where I could only afford water? LOVE water. Lesson: deprivation is the answer.
IMHO if that's the case, I should have an EPIC tome inside my pickled brain!
Thank you Mel Brooks! Young Frankenstein changed me!!
When you read Naked and the quirky family this gem of a human grew up in, you see why he's so immensely talented. ❤
That was the first book that made me literally cry with laughter.
He is such a treasure. I'm so glad I finally got to see him live last year. Ive been a fan since my English 101 professor assigned us Me Talk Pretty One Day to analyze... over 20 years ago. Also 5:00 that image is nothing to a kid. Nickelodeon in the 80s had a claymation short they'd always run about Inside Out Boy who swung over the bar on the swing set and it turned him inside out. Didn't leave a single scar on my fragile mind.
Sedaris will always be one of my all time favorites...saw him once in person... Even my husband had a good time, and he's usually not into going to author readings.
The most I have ever laughed in public was at a David Sedaris and Sarah Vowell reading. It was awesome, and when he read some of his stories I laughed so hard tears ran down my face and my face froze.
David is my favorite! I couldn’t be happier to see him!
I was introduced to David Sedaris' work by my TAs at Iowa in 2000 and have been a fan ever since! Reading about his crazy family and childhood gave me hope! I would love to have him and Amy as siblings or fun Aunt and Uncle!
I had to watch this interview twice I loved it so much. Can’t remember the last time I laughed harder! David is brilliant. Love his honesty.
I just love when David or Amy Sedaris are on. They are both so funny. And excellent writers!
What an utterly delightful interview! Sparkling on both sides of the table.
I love David Sedaris so much! "...and I still have to split the royalties with him" 🤣😂😂🤣😂
Heart times 5!
I knew David and Hugh from when we were all young and starting out in NYC. Watching this I'm still completely awestruck how it all just flows out of him!
DAVID is as badarse as it gets... quick SedariStory:
Met him at bookstore in harrisburg PA. Incredible. i was late in getting tickets so i went to a thrift store and bought a seated walker for $5 as it was standing room only. INSTANT SEAT!
After they were getting us ready to have a meet and greet. They saw me as handicapped and stood me first in line to meet him... then they needed to get things more situated after letting me in... I was with him for 20 minutes...
He is as awesome as you would expect meeting with a thousand colored markers to draw to his hearts content on your book. if david is your literary hero as he is one of mine, he is one to meet.
I was hoping for a doodle in my book when I saw him at a local theater. But I got a dedication instead
I went to one of his readings and book signings when I was a teenager. I had just returned from a summer following a jam band around the country and was dressed like a dirty hippie - Birkenstocks, patchwork, dreadlocks and all. I bought his latest book, to have him sign: Holidays on Ice. He drew a jack-o-lantern on the title page.
Despite being very stoned at the time, I got his meaning and thought that was hilarious. I cut off the dreadlocks shortly thereafter. Thanks, DS
@MeloniousThunk What'd the jack-o-lantern mean? I seriously don't get it.
@@philipstowers4741 he was insinuating that I looked like I was wearing a costume.
@@philipstowers4741 Perhaps he scared people like what a jack o lantern was supposed to do.
Sedaris on audiobook while driving can be hazardous. I had to pull over and compose myself.
“Stadium Pal”? “Piping hot bag….” Peed.
Love how this title refers back to Me Talk Pretty One Day 😊
I met David a few years ago. I love his humor so much
I can always count on David (and Seth too) for a good laugh. Thank you!
Love David Sedaris ❤
And his sister Amy.
I have often thought that I would pay good money to see the 2 of them on stage eing served a surprise dinner. They don't know what is coming, They're just there to have dinner together. Put Mics on them and let us all listen in. It could be a different dinner in every city to keep it interesting for them.
OMG! Seth's reaction just made my day! Absolutely delightful.
❤😂❤😂❤😂
David Sedaris and Annette Bening this week? Yes, please 💗
I adore David, he’s brilliant ❤
We saw Sedaris in Baltimore years back. He is a natural at all he does. Genuine genius in my book. Er, his books.
I gad pre-ordered Pretty Ugly last fall when David was at our local independent bookstore. It is Wonderful!!
👏 ❤David’s work! It is always a treat to see him on an interview 😊
I adore David.
More David and more Amy please! Love them!
One of the funniest interviews I've seen!
My favorite author….Need to order this masterpiece ASAP
If you get the chance to see him do a live performance, do!
Nice shoes. RIP Mickey and Minnie.
RIP to Ian, for giving us all the open mouthed gasping belly laugh we all need from time to time.
I just saw David at Massey Hall in Toronto and I have to say, the man is everything I thought he'd be. Perverse, off the cuff, and taking notes the entire reading. I've been reading his stuff for twenty years and I hope I can for another twenty.
During my postpartum depression exercising and listening to David Sedaris’ books is what saved me
If David was still a drinker, this could have been Seth's most hilarious Day Drinking episode ever!
this is one of the funniest things i've ever witnessed 🥰
As someone who works with kids and has kids, yes! Lets stop turning everything into a lesson and let them have some fun
David Sedaris =. GENIUS. !
At the 5:40 mark, you will see one of the most hilarious moments in talk show history. Sedaris has cashed in all his Fs.
Amy’s right Seth, you do gesticulate, lol, but you do give good interview, best of the late night gang. Love David Sedaris!
David, I will love you forever. I know you won't -- really, can't -- but never stop.
God, I love Sedaris.
I always wondered how David and Amy grew up to be soo hilarious 🤣❤
growing up in raleigh, nc during the 70s/80s will do that to you
@@perryroobay and having no TV
“Ian died last year and the sad thing is I still have to split royalties with him” roflmao
After David says the joke about the royalties, Seth takes a full 11 seconds before saying anything he was THAT caught off guard.
4:15 He is absolutely right!!! I am a nanny and most children's books in the USA are nauseating to me.
David for the win
Best guest ever
Yeah, I need that book.
nice interview
Sedaris is so hilarious, and compassionate too, lol!
Flying in straight from his Marrakech Bazaar stall where he sells dates and figs, please welcome David Sedaris!!😂
Kids aren’t that bright… Yeah I’m gonna run out and get that book for my grandkids 😮 Yes, I probably will buy it for my grandkids because I love David Sedaris!
Amy was one of my favorite guests are Letterman ❤❤❤
I was just thinking of that! He complimented her dress and she replied, "You should see it crumpled on the floor!" LOL!!!
We love david sedaris
one of David's best panel appearances?
I saw David Sedaris live and he was so wonderful. Not to gloss over that was the most hilarious joke.
Hilarious way to wake up. Now I will be spending the whole day looking up all David's work, cant wait 😂
I've never seen him seem so comfortable on TV ...
That family is funny af.
I like how Seth called the illustration a photo.
I can't get my head around what the heck he's wearing in general, not just the wacky shoes
If you were familiar with his work, you would know that those pants have a story behind them. He was with his sisters and got them in Japan
If a Roman Catholic priest and nun combined their habits /uniforms from the 50s, this is what it would look like.
@@c.a.savage5689 🤣
Google "Shopping for Clothes in Tokyo" for his March 2016 New Yorker short story. He definitely enjoys impractical clothing & has an obsession w/ culottes. 😅
I didn't see this when it was first posted. I almost skipped it. So glad I didn't. This has to be one of the best interviews. Imagine an actor saying she hates her movie and a costar.
I don't have children. I like children, as long as they belong to someone else. I will probably buy the book.
OMG I’m weeping - hilarious
Rare to catch Seth off his feet that was funny 😂.. but it must run in the family his sister Amy is funny too ! Great interview Seth !
So funny. love this author.
He says the things..you didn’t know you thought..lol
Me talk pretty one day was the first book I ever enjoyed leisurely. big fan
Bigly fun! 😮
Love that book (I teach Spanish)
No comments on this post? Feels like walking into an empty school.
Edit to add: This guy's shoes are awesome
Same. What’s up.
Reminiscent of Fran Leibovitz when she promoted her Children’s book, Lisa Sue and the Pandas. I think it might have been on Letterman.
Love his quirky shoes! ❤
If he ever finishes with them, I know of a chimpanzee he sanctuary in Washington state that could use them. They have one chimpanzee who is obsessed with boots and cannot wear most of them because chimps have thumbs on their feet...😅
@@LindaC616 I’m a fan of the eccentric. 🥰
@@joniheisenberg still.... When they're like Lady Gaga shoes and require assistance to walk, you might need to reconsider 😄
I would be so scared to have David Sedaris sign a book for me! P.S. LOVE David Sedaris.
I was hoping he would do a doodle in mine, but he gave me a dedication instead
I asked Sedaris to sketch a Stadium Pal (google it) when he dedicated a book for me. He did, but apologized for not being a good artist.
Could you imagine traveling abroad with Amy & David?
If you ever get a chance to see David Sedaris at a live event, GO. No comedian I've ever seen had such sustained laughter from the audience as this author did at several points in the evening. 😂❤
you can't kill the rooster
I absolutely adore him and his sister Amy! ❤
I read the pit and the pendulum when I was 13 and I froze in place for like an half an hour. The library was an escape for me.
Never heard of this person, but I'm an instant fan 😂
Read "Me Talk Pretty One Day".
Listen to "SantaLand Diaries" and his bit about St Nick in Holland, and "8 to 12 black men"
Oh, I’m excited for you! You have a brand-new expanse of hilarity and brilliance to explore!
I wanted to hear about Amy and David at the Paris fashion shows😢
I want to hear how those pans went over
I love David Sedaris!
WE WANNA SEE AMY!! Please have her on the show again, she's super amazing. Jerry Blank is one of the greatest characters of all time.
This was fantastic
Now I must read!
David Sedaris donates books to our library
I’m going to steal that look
I adore David and Amy's since of humor; even though I don't always appreciate the way others do. I would marry Amy in a second, and love having David as a bother-in-law - Just think about how much fun Thanksgiving would be!
