The acoustic/electric Grand Auditorium 414ce responds well to an array of playing styles thanks to Taylor’s proprietary body shape and the expansive tonal palette of ovangkol and spruce. Expect a blend of power and tonal definition, especially in the midrange, so whether you like to strum, flatpick or play fingerstyle, the 414ce makes a great playing partner. Contemporary aesthetic strokes include white binding, Italian acrylic dot fretboard inlays, a three-ring rosette, and a full-gloss body. The guitar comes equipped with Taylor’s Expression System® 2 acoustic electronics along with a Venetian cutaway, and ships in a Taylor deluxe hardshell case.

I actually like how the yamaha projects more bass and mids than the Taylor. I love that loudness.
👍🏻
I just got Yamaha FG800
And I just love it
I can't afford a Taylor
Although the Taylor is better but it's not $2000 better for sure.
Agreed. 👍
I own Yamaha, but in this comparison I go for Taylor. Bright and warm sound and a lot of expression. The best word I found for this sound is sweet. Sweet like a honey! The beginnings of well-known songs sound very similar to original recordings. The Yamaha sounds much more rough. Very powerful bass and a lot of punch, but no refinement at all. It sounds like very good student's instrument. Surely, the difference in sound doesn't match the difference in price, but... These instruments are made for different players. For a beginner Taylor 414 is waste of money, just as FG800 is a waste of money for a professional.
Yamaha is good for live audience....
No guitar is waste of money. Look at this guy , he can play a $500 guitar just like 2K one. It solely depends on the guitarist. I can make a $3K sound worse than a $50 guitar. TBH , taylor can never be waste. A beginner doesn't stay beginner forever.
Then Could you recommend something better than FG800 but not expensive
Yamaha LS16 ARE beat this Taylor easy for less than half of the price
@@swaroov9236 FG800 is the best choice for it’s price, I think.
I like how clear and zingy was the taylor, and the yamaha had a nice bass. both were great but you obviously the taylor won
I love the yamaha in terms of strumming. The boldness is great. The sounds are good too.
Great guitar of course!
I'd have the Taylor I think it's brighter sounding but I'm ordering the yamaha... Over here it's 218 euros and it sounds great so it's a no brainer thanks for video...
Thank you!
Yahama FG 800 unbeatable ❤️
👍🏻
I appreciate the video. I have been helping others to find & purchase instruments (usually guitars), for over 35 years. Although my number one guitar is a Taylor (1998 K-14C), I have found some surprising guitars from $300 & up. Yamaha acoustics & their electric Pacifica line, are worth checking out. Also, don't miss: Faith, Orangewood, Seagull & Breedlove (high & low end) guitars.
I can hear the difference. Of course the Taylor sounds a lot crisper and clear. But the Yamaha sounds good too. But it depends on who you are going to play to.
You could have compared Taylor with a 800$ Yamaha AC3R, which is all solid wood and similar size guitar. But the video clearly shows why Yamaha is the absolute "go to" guitar for a beginner.
Thanks for comment.
Also, note that when listening to others demo'ing instruments many factors are at play. This includes style, technique & song selection. (PLEASE NOTE: Right hand placement, among other factors, will effect the overall tone of the sound, generally producing increased treble as you move from the soundhole towards the bridge.)
You're right.
This is not a fair comparison, Fg800 is a good strumming guitar, not to play fingerstyle. Definitely Taylor sounds better, but not for that much money more. Try FS series, for another 100 more, and you see how good the Yamaha is. Taylor is definitely a good guitar, unique on its own, but it is up to the buyer if they wanted to fork out so much for a Taylor.
Why do you say that the FS series is better than the FG. I was thinking about getting an FG830 but now you've made me start thinking about the FS series.
@@Brenners2010 I'm on the same boat as you. Let me know if you pulled the trigger and ended up getting the FG830
@@helpinghand123 I actually tried an FG800 this week in a music store and I really didn't like the action to be honest. I'm not sure how much I could change the action with a truss rod adjustment. I then played a Martin X series guitar and I really liked it. I play songs much more comfortably. So I'm actually thinking of getting an X-series guitar rather than a Yamaha especially considering it has a pick up system. The neck of the FG800 felt good in fairness. I would imagine that it's a very good value guitar that can't be beaten in that price range.
Thanks for comment.
The Yamaha is so much louder because it's a dread. But it sounds nice. I prefer it to the Taylor because I like the dread sound. I own a Tak dread.
Thanks for comment.
Taylor has slightly better clarity and more sweetness but less depth and punch due to different body shape than yamaha. However, considering the price this Yamaha is perfect. I wonder what yamaha can produce in 2000 $ range.
Its not worth paying double or triple for a kettle deference
Check out the Yamaha Ac and L series guitars! They seriously kick butt!
Yamaha in my opinion . Great you did this . Now i know i made the right choice in Ordering an APX 1000 for my 61st birthday this Saturday Feb/9/2019 . I am only ameteur but love it. I am hoping it will be here by then . Can't wait now hearing this one which i know sounds different than what i am getting but i know that and the one i ordered is what i wanted in style and comfort. Yamaha always made quality products all around.
Love your finger picking too BTW . Awesome Playing & Demo
I've bought and sold countless high end guitars, and with acoustics, price just does not equate to tone.
Here is my thought:
414CE tone is more cool, crisp, bright, and clear. The highs stand out a bit more.
I think 414CE sounds better for fingerstyle.
The Yamaha is more warm, mushy, noisy, and probably louder (FG 800 is my first and only guitar, it's got good build and sound quality for the price).
The lows stand out nicely. Really easy to hear when the chord changes.
Yamaha would probably stand out in outdoor acoustic strumming and singing.
Nice sounding yamaha I own a taylor 310ce love the yammy
Taylor has clear precise sound. Yamaha is louder but sounds more hallow and less defined.
Thanks for comment.
The Taylor is bright bright bright. The Yamaha doesn't have bell tones but does have good mids and lows and is thouands cheaper.
A good PA or acoustic amp could neutralize differences.
Thanks for comment
Personally I think the taylor sounds a little bit better, but I think once the Yamaha gets more seasoned it could beat the taylor for sure
You're just hearing the elixir strings.
Both sound great .price difference is massive
Thanks for comment.

Yamaha wins.
I like more the sound of yamaha
This was a great video.
What's the song at 0:45(the second song) btw?
Sina Feisaly Copperline James Taylor
Thank you for the video. It really shows the difference in what you get for the money. Although I feel that the Yamaha punches well above its weight class and sounds really good, the color and spectrum of the Taylor 414 is hands down the more expressive instrument IMHO. Thank you for the video.
Thanks for comment. The Yamaha its really great for the price...
Very nice video and playing. And I should say many thanks to Yamaha guitar makers that an average guitar plays not so bad in comparison with a superior taylor.
Thank you!
If this is the 414ce you've already tested in 2016, it would be a little unfair to compare it with a brand new FG800.
Yes it is
whats the song at 3:27?
Just 4 chords... Nothing special i think
I love this comparison, the fg800 is the celebrity within the 500 dollars range and poeple are saying it wins the more expensive Epi Ej200, Hummingbird or other guitars in that price range(Note this: Guitar strings should have the same gauge and brand when comparing two different guitars for the most accurate result)
I have a FG 830 and agree I'd put it up against the Taylor any day.
Bloody hell i think the yam sounds better !
Thanks for comment.
Taylor just hasn't built as many millions of guitars as Yamaha has. They'll get better at it. Give them a few decades. And man... that Taylor is so bright and empty sounding starting at 3:26 it's almost painful. Reminds me of a early 2000s cheap mass production Ibanez acoustic.
Thanks for comment.
To me, Taylor sounds marginally better. In terms of price performance, Yamaha is overwhelmingly better.
Thanks for comment.
what song at 2:17

What’s the first song called ?
The song is called "Let her go" by Passenger (Mike Rosenberg)
Thanks for comment.
Hi, What size strings on the guitars?
12-53
First song??
Let her go
Love the comparison, and appreciate the time and effort to make the video. With that said, wouldn't it be more reasonable to show the FG as compared to say an $800 guitar? For the money, the FG is very hard to beat.
Thanks for comment.
i dont know why taylor costs that much, i just did a little upgrade to my yamaha f370 and it beats taylor
What upgrade?
@@dumashernandez5125 changing nut,strings, saddle
Rick o ok cool. Yeah honestly taylor is overpriced. Do you think that ajusting those things to the right height is hard? I’m thinking of changing the saddle but am spooked.
@@dumashernandez5125 you should get it changed by someone professional, you can go to guitar stores because they are professionals and will change it easily

Try dad , don't mess with my kids.
*TAYLOR LEFT THE CHAT*
Yamaha got the natural acoustic sound. The Taylor has the toilet room color of sound. Invest on a affordable electro-acoustic guitar & a cheap Carlsboro Sherwood British-made acoustic amp. It sounds better & still comes out cheaper than buying a Taylor.
British made amp lol
Thanks for comment.
This particular Taylor has much more harmonics here. It's an overall better guitar by a margin with perhaps the only short coming in note seperation. I always hate to praise a Taylor but this one is good.
That said, you will always find the slightly fancier appointed FG sounding much better. Now I have a Yamaha 730 as my beater and I can tell you it's nothing like this 800. My 730 is unbelievably piano like, both robust and rich with volume being it's only downside. Maybe it's a luck of the draw, but I feel like the 830 will make a better comparison purely based on the build attention.
It doesn't matter wether you buy and expensive guitar or cheaper guitar if you don't know how to play it right it will sounds horrible =)
Thanks for comment.
Oh please... Taylor hands down! Sweet, rich armonic content and the sweetness of a solid guitar, yo can hear the wood singing!
yamaha fg 800 fr sure
Thanks for comment.
Ideally you should have compared the Taylor with FS 800.
Thanks for comment.
After watching hundreds of comparison videos between all-solid and solid-top-only acoustic guitars, I’ve come to a few conclusions:
(1) The top material truly determines 90% of a guitar’s tone.
(2) Yes, solid back and sides make a tonal difference, particularly in overtones, but I don’t think it’s nearly as pronounced as some people claim. That said, even guitars with layered/laminate backs and sides can produce overtones (albeit to a lesser degree)... Find a quality comparison video between the Yamaha FS800 (layered mahogany) and Yamaha FS830 (layered rosewood), and you’ll see what I mean.
(3) Volume is largely determined by body shape and bracing (esp. if it’s scalloped). The Yamaha in this video definitely wins that battle.
All that to say, while more money will certainly buy you a finer sounding guitar with more eye candy, modern construction has made many laminate back/side guitars perfectly viable. In some cases, laminate/back side guitars-such as the Guild Westerly Series or Taylor 100/200 series-have a distinct/unique/powerful sound in their own right. So if you’re a musician on a smaller budget, DO NOT feel ashamed to purchase a laminate back/side guitar from a quality company. This truly is a golden age for budget acoustics.
Brilliant comment. Totally agree!
Did both have Elixir strings? They make a turd sound good....that's why Taylor uses them.
I have a FG700S I bought because we compared it with a Taylor and everyone blind tested the yamaha as the best. The yamaha didn't project as well as the Taylor....I refreted it with jumbo frets and it came alive.
I bet the Yamaha doesn't have Elixirs in your video....it sounds darker. Take the elixirs off the taylor and it becomes average.
David Kennedy i think they both had Daddario at the time... i tríed different brands on the taylor and the Sound changes a little but that high end definition it’s always present no matter the brand. Elixirs make it more present

I had an FG 650 FG 700 and they had red label inside one of them the neck broke so I can play it I had to glue it so I had to buy a fg800 cuz I couldn't fucking Buy another 700 or 6:50 I don't know fucking why cuz that was my favorite guitar the 650 satin finish why does the 800 green label sound like shit compared to my 650 or 700 Red Label I can't stand this guitar the fg800 green label I want a fucking duplicate of my other guitar why is it got to be so goddamn annoying to buy a fucking guitar I got to be dicks and make shit that I can't get no more it's not like it's pissing me off

Price is an illusion of quality
Wrong.
Best guitar on the planet for the money, Yamaha FG800
Thanks for comment.
Definitely not much of a difference. Sometimes the Yamaha even sounds better. Surely not worth the additional $2,000
This is what they say. Play it and let the guitar justify its price.
Thanks for comment.
Thanks for the video, the difference between two guitars shown well and it really helps to choose what you need. By the way can you please name the tunes you're playing? Seems that I've listened to them a lot but can't remember the songs
Thank you Eggor. The songs are: "Let her go" by Passenger, "Copperline" by James Taylor and "fast car" by Tracy Chapman.
Yamaha already on the sky
Thanks for comment.
Would you believe me that the Yamaha sounds better
No
Hehe. At least i tried, both sound great, the Yamaha is naturally deeper in low end for the dreadnought shape, and the Taylor just has a chimey, shimmery tone.
Yes

i vote yamaha. more money for holidays😎
