I bought this guitar and the action was extremely high; in fact the store let me exchange it for a new one because the luthier could not diagnose the problem. The second one was in need of a setup big time as well. That being said; it has all the materials (except decent nut and saddle), scalloping, and design of top shelf guitars. The biggest thing people forget to consider is that the high end Martins and the like are given much more attention to the minute detail that is scrutinized for a setup. It is the fine tuning that goes into the guitar before it leaves the factory. The FG830 is sold at a lower price because they don’t spend weeks in the hand of a luthier. Works for me. The frets are level; the neck is angled correctly. Get a premium setup done by a luthier and you won’t have a D series Martin but it will sound like you do
Just picked up this guitar on Cyber Monday with 15% discount. Sounded better than several of the other guitars I played before I found this one and they all costed, $200 more up to $500 more. You should check them out. I’m loving mine
The problem with Yamaha guitars is the strings. The stock strings are the only ones that sound good. Believe me, I have tried everything and nothing comes close to the stock strings. What are they ?
DR Rare Phosphor Bronze 12-54 are the perfect strings for the FG830, better than ANY strings out there for this guitar, BY FAR, and better than the stock strings.
little advise there's a reason they tune these guitars down, fact is Yamaha guitars are decent but not always the best sounding at least not without a good setup, sometimes some guitars may be decent BUILD but not always the best sound so in order to sell and make it appealing they hire musicians who play good enough to make a shoebox with strings on in it sound amazing, with that said when anytime a guitar is tuned down, it usually almost always sounds better. singer songwriter and 30 yrs of playing is how I know this lol
Yes, the guy is good, and yes, the guitar sounds fuller with the low E tuned down to D, but every guitar company on the planet tries to achieve the same impact with a demo. Great player, best possible acoustics. So it's still an even playing field and this guitar still sounds damn good.
I always thoughtbecause everyone said so) that Yamaha guitars are one of the best in setup coming out from the factory take note that I'm talking about the setup nothing else
I disagree with this assessment. I played this guitar and thought that it is a very solid instrument. Also since the mid 60's or thereabouts Yamaha has produced some legendary guitars. The FG 180 is still a highly sought guitar. I'm not sure which guitars in their line you are referring to, but it seems we've had rather different experiences with their products.
do not agree i own the yamaha fg800 and the fg830 this is simply amazing have being playing for 16 years and can say with out a doubt that if this was the only guitar on planet i would be more than satisfied!!!!!..just my humble and honoust opinion
Yamaha has built some really nice guitars without going insane on their prices. This sounds as good as my thousand dollar Taylor.
Sounds amazing, full rich, balanced tone, with enough bass.Perfect for recording.I'm getting this guitar.
As a complete novice, I have decided on this guitar as my starting point. Reasonable price and good quality.
You won't regret it.In this price point is one of the bests
A bit late to reply but this guitar could last you way after the starting point. I have been playing for 25 years and it simply blew me away.

I'm making a bone nut and saddle,I just got the stock.
Mine was almost perfect out of the box.

Bought this guitar almost two months ago and I love it
低音の深みもあり音の鳴りが凄くいいですね!!✨
Great playing Jake!
Man is this guitar good for noob or beginner like me ok go for the fg5 series?
This sounds nice!
A great guitar
Unbelievable sound for the price
Great playing. Nice to see a picker getting finger-style results. The guitar also sounds good enough to make me take a hard look at one. Thanks.
Younès Grandjean often plays with a yamaha acoustic guitar, and that's really the class
Dang, you're a great player
Dang?
looks like the action and saddle has been udjusted and upgraded?
ouch1226 yea seems like it, i tried this at GC and the action was so high. This one they're using probably been set up
That's what I'm talkin about Jake....keep it up...
It doesn't take a professional to sand the saddle down and adjust the truss rod,I did both myself (it came with high action) now it sounds amazing.
What kind of strings did you have on this when you played the two videos?
if they didn't change from the box, it is elixir 0.12
Great player! What kind of strings are you using, and what gauge are they.
why do you not have the 820 demo or review?
Coming soon...be sure to subscribe to check out our latest product videos. Thanks for watching!

Yamaha fg830 or Fender Fa 125? Plz Help.
FG830
FG830... I love it
What i don't like, is the boomey, shorter sound of lower G... Many other guitars have it, and it's not nice to hear it.
