  • I am in the middle of a beehive build, and I wanted to make the handles. After doing a bit of research I decided to make this jig for the skill saw. Those handles can also work on drawers and cabinets.
    Tools and materials I propose:
    Circular saw: amzn.to/2CJpvBr
    Bandsaw: amzn.to/2pHj49v
    Grinder / belt sander: amzn.to/2PAV57u
    Pocket hole jig: amzn.to/2PAwO10
    Drill: amzn.to/2C9HJep

    This is an excellent setup for those with limited space for fancy equipment to do make these handles. Thank you for sharing this. I may have to build one for myself now!

      +Robin Lewis thank you very much but the original idea is not mine. Check the description of the video to see more people making similar things. I was just making research on the subject and came across this idea. So I decided to make a video about making in one, in order to spread that awesome idea as much as I can! I think it can be really useful to many if us!

      +Wood By Wright the original idea is being used from beehive makes for long time ago. Check the description of the video to see people I studied. :)

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright 8 лет назад +2

      +Scrap wood City I just looked at that. This has sparked a whole new study for me! did you angle the Saw blade to give the cut a bit of an under cut or just keep it at 90 degrees?

    • @ScrapwoodCity
      @ScrapwoodCity  8 лет назад +1

      +Wood By Wright I just kept it straight. If you have a saw with a bigger blade and deeper plunging capability you can play around with the blade's angle set up to experiment on different results!

    Good Video mostly. Blade depth would have been helpful. Will be making this one. For the conversion, the ramp measurements were just shy of US rulers. To save you time, 1.8cm = ¾” 22cm make 8 ¾ 7.5cm make 3”. Keep in mind that circular saws were not designed for "side" cutting so notice that the blade was being "bumped" up and down a little. This could wear/stress the arbor and bearings in the long term. I have seen similar on other sites that warn this can be dangerous sooooo BE CAREFUL. My only recommendation will be to make the thin guide strips on the sides out of 3/4" and use the thin wood on top to keep the saw "trapped" in a groove when "bumping" or lifting the blade slightly as the deeper cut is being made. I'll try to update if the top guide helps make this project a little safer.

    if you angle the saw back the angle of the wooden jig plus a couple degrees there will be room up above the wood edge for your finger tips. This is exactly what I did.

    I built one of these and was not 100% happy with it for three reasons:
    1 The handles it cuts are not big enough for my hands
    2 The cut slopes outwards by 15 degrees and is inclined to "shed" the fingers.
    3 I was not happy about lifting a saw while running at 4000 rpm
    My solution was to build a larger jig and use a plunge saw (1400W) so that the base plate stays in contact with the jig. The plunge saw has a bigger blade and therefore cuts a wider handle. It has an adjustable depth of cut. It also has an adjustable angle of cut. This allows the saw to be turned around and used right handed. The angle of cut can then be adjusted to under-cut the handle. It works like charm. Thx for the idea.

    That was an absolutely cool jig. Thanks for sharing this with us. Just a quick one. Would you mind letting me know all the exact dimensions for all bits and pieces to male a perfect handle, please? Thanks so much.

  • @ChristopherJones16
    @ChristopherJones16 5 лет назад

    Im guessing you have to tilt the saw blade as well to the same angle so the saw is cocked but the blade itself remains perpendicular to the board youre cutting or else the part of the handle where your fingertips meet will not be too safe to hold onto since theyll be angled as well.

    Totally cool!! I didn't get what you meant until half the video and I was like :DDDD very nice! I guess the jig is more or less tricky depending on how deep you want it, because since it pivots on one side, you could have centering problems right? something to keep in mind!, so why do you have a " -_-" face in your hand? :P thanks man!!

    • @ScrapwoodCity
      @ScrapwoodCity  8 лет назад

      +Cactus! workshop You are absolutely right. Check the description of the video. People with larger saws (or table saws) tilt the blade to match the angle of jig and get a 90 degree vertical cut. Mine is slightly angled. I was just testing a few old markers on my hand, nothing artistic! lol
