I hope you enjoy this All Patched Up revisit special looking at the monumental achievement that is No Man's Sky Worlds on Nintendo Switch. Let me know what you think. Mark
I've played MNS since it was K&M only and always enjoyed it. Crashes less than Fallout (3&NV should be on Switch). Always felt people were too harsh on it. I have very fond memories of breaking economies and making randoms online billionaires. Showing people where cool ships and planets are but without a straightforward way to map pin. The game is completely the vibe of space exploration without even a modicum of accuracy BUT IT FEELS SO REAL 😂
The team at HelloGames believed in the Switch. They made the impossible, possible. Even tho it wasn’t as good as PS5,Xbox, it was playable. Runs smooth and definitely enjoyable. Felt like Breath of the Wild in space. I applaud for the team for giving it all
Well not so smooth fighting sentineos with the mech in auto and a medium sized pet, had the fps as unstable as my mental health. But is crazy how this game is on switch is ONLY 5Gb of size, and how good it feels to play it on switch. I double dipped PC and Switch
The fact that you’re putting out content like this just shows us time and time again how much you actually care about games and giving credit to a studio when it’s due. Love it, keep it up Mark, you’re a little bit of a legend (and so is Glen!)
I’ve been a day one player on Switch. It’s my favorite game to play as I listen to audiobooks. I’m someone that deals with a rare nerve illness called reflex sympathetic dystrophy. In simple terms, my body doesn’t know how to turn off pain and over fires my nerves. No Man Sky makes me feel as though I’m living out many dreams of sci-fi storytelling. It’s also very relaxing when it’s going rough for the day. The Switch is easier on my body than any other console on the market. I can’t believe the library I’ve built. I thought the PS4 would be my final system. I’m very glad to have been so wrong. As someone that deals with life that isn’t always so great. This game isn’t perfect, to me it’s great.
Oh man, that sounds awful. I know I'm just some random dude on the Internet, but I'm sorry you have to deal with that. For whatever it's worth, I wish you some relief from your pain.
I picked this up for Switch recently with the sale and worlds update. It blows most other ports out of the water. Happy to be exploring the stars now after all the hype
I've had it running on low settings on a mini pc with an Intel graphics chip, it took a lot of tweaking but it ran at 25-30 frames in space and around 20 25 on planets, it did sound like it was going to take off though, it's a pretty well optimised game
Although I must admit I’m still somewhat overwhelmed by NMS, I can’t help but greatly admire what Murray and his team have accomplished. I mean you can carry an entire universe in your pocket! Truly a labour of love.
I don't know if I would call them a "hero" just yet, though I do respect them for sticking with the game, it still has a ways to go to fulfill the promise of the original trailers. I also wish they stopped focusing so much on breadth and focused more on depth - make a key pillar of the gameplay more interesting with more depth to it.
I’m honestly blown away that they never once asked for another penny. I cannot fathom how there is not a single form of micro transaction in this game.
@tiredcat1485 terraria is one of my other absolute favs. I've got well over 500 hrs into it and it's one of those games I can always fall back to. I really wish Starbound would have found more success and came to the switch with console controls worked similarly to how terraria did theirs. I'm still happy to have just gotten terraria though
If and when they finally get to the end of development, I’d easily pay them again for the content complete ultimate edition on physical. Especially since even after all this, the entire game still fits easily on a humble-sized Switch cart.
I really appreciate that you're revisiting games and give them another chance after a bunch of updates. This can really make a difference for some of the games and most reviewers just move on.
Honestly, an amazing game and an amazing achievement. I picked it up on PC after the latest update (on sale for like $20) and I can't put it down. It really is a fantastic game, one of the best I've played in years. Also one of the things I like about it is it never wastes your time or pushes you in one direction or another. Don't like base building? After a few tutorial quests in the beginning you never have to touch it again if you don't want to. Like base building? You could easily spend hundreds of hours doing just that and barely scraping the surface. But there are so many other systems (messing with Exocrafts, managing a Colony, Frigates and their quests, etc. etc. etc.) And none of it is pushed on you unless you want to go down that route (You might occasionally pick up a tutorial quest here and there on certain things, but hey, if it doesn't interest you you're safe to ignore it). It really supports what YOU want to do, even though there's like 20 other things you could also be doing in the game.
Im having a blast with NMS right now. It's insanely fun exploring new planets. I have a capital freighter and a fleet now! I even have a mech that helps me fight sentinels. And a few days ago i got myself a sweeeet sentinel starship. I named it Grimlock [it's extinction time!]. 😆
Im doing my first expedition now with the worlds update and man these are quite lenghty! I'm having trouble finding time for it with heavy work hours but definitely enjoying my time I do get to it. It is a remarkable improvement since launch and it looks great and has so much to do now. Definitely THE redemption story
This video is like a love letter to the developer. Well made video. Between the savaloy selections, your sales videos in general, and these all patched up videos that make me want to return to older games, it’s no wonder my backlog is upset with me.
I can definitely see the work you put into it. Every sales video you talk about this game makes me want to dive back in and start a brand new file and this video might be the one that tips me over the edge. Currently replaying TotK, but this is definitely next.
Simply outstanding! The man had the vision and worked hard over the years and made that vision a reality. It is worth it to get the Switch version along because of such an accomplishment it is and as a bonus you get is the best battery life of any portable to you can spend more time playing on the go. Simply incredible!
It tanks my battery pretty hard...but I am playing on an original gen 1 switch with, if I had to guess, well over 10k hours on this original battery 😅 which honestly says something for the battery they put in it, I can still get over an hour of nms on a charge and it's over 7 years old at this point
Developers like this are so rare. People who actually put out content solely for the purpose of making a great game for their fans. Another developer like this that comes to mind is the creator of Stardew Valley. Tons of new updates and content, and never asks for an extra dime. What's even more crazy, is they know we would gladly pay for dlc.
What they've been able to do with this game, let alone its Switch port is insane. I remember hearing about this game back in 2016/2017 and how coworkers would dunk on it because it's launch and the following months were an entire trainwreck. I have yet to pull the trigger on picking this up for any console or PC, but I've followed your coverage of it up to this point. Hats off to you gents 👏🏽
I had actually not even realized that "No Man's Sky" existed on Nintendo switch at all until I saw it on the shelf just a couple weeks ago. I immediately bought it and I can say that it is every bit as impressive as it is portrayed in this video. I was born in the sweet spot where I started gaming on Atari and witnessed every leap forward first hand. Nowadays the hardware has become so powerful that the opportunity to witness a technical marvel is fast becoming a thing of the past. Experiences like seeing and playing N64 Mario 64 for the first time will NEVER be outdone, that just a once in a lifetime thing. but I've had many other jaw dropping moments in their own right. To keep this short as possible I'll name only a couple. Seeing "Xenoblade chronicles" on the Nintendo Wii for the first time was staggering. The quality and shear massive scale of that game was completely unheard of on the hilariously underpowered Wii, and yet there it was. Then it happened again when "Xenoblade chronicles" released on the Nintendo 3ds in its full entirety. Also one of the first 3ds games I got was "Resident Evil Revelations". That game is graphically gorgeous on the 3ds. It was a relatively early release on the console and it looked impossibly good. In terms of presentation and admirable performance, it was never outdone and there were hardly any games that even attempted such a feat. These are absolute technical marvels. "No Man's Sky" on Nintendo switch is a true technical marvel. It shouldn't exist at all, let alone look this good and have decent performance as well. I highly recommend this to anyone with a switch, esp if you miss feats of digital wizardry and true technical marvels.
As a Switch gamer I’d written this off completely. But looking at this I’m amazed. Let’s hope the Switch successor is easy to adapt the code to, and that we can have a native version on day one. With this level of optimisation on this low end console I’m hoping we can get a 60fps wonderful looking “Switch 2” experience.
Thank you, Mark. I came 20 hours late to this video, but... WOW. Like a mini documentary. This is the culmination of nearly 2 years of EXAUSTED performance reviews of patch after patch. An incredible video. This is the very best of what you do. MARK HERE ME... Peter from Taiwan (possibly on Glen's behalf) might just charter a flight to the UK to slap you, if you repost this video to fix the tiny editing error @5:44 in the video. The fact that something so trivial eats at you, if the very reason, You're the best at what you do. INCREDIBLE WORK! OUTSTANDING production value. SO good! Thank you. Never one to rest on his laurels, or lean in to the algaryth with videos chasing trending topics, you stayed true to you, and worked to be the best version of that.
And yeah that editing error was so annoying haha I actually will trim the few seconds out before Murray speaks using RUclips's editor without a reupload 😂
@@SwitchUpYt And I'll be there from the start of the successor, which hopefully retains the Switch branding, and therefore doesn't necessitate a re-branding of the channel.
This might be my favorite video you’ve done so far! Absolutely adore this game. I’ve played every update besides this one so I’m definitely going to get back to it now. Absolutely my comfort game.
Damn, might have to pick this up next time it goes on sale. Looks amazing for a Switch game and honestly I find frame drops on a handheld (I only ever play my Switch handheld never docked) a big deal compared to when playing on a big TV. I just appreciate the ability to play great games on the go when on the train, etc.
It's a strange thing this for me. It didn't have much of what was promised on its release, but back then i still had a blast. Maybe the loving kid of astronomy ignored the negatives. But, all these years later I've just picked it up on Switch and what they have achieved today is quite frankly incredible in general. But then to think it's running on a Switch, i don't think that calling Hello Games as technological miracle workers is far fetched at all. It's a redemption that possibly only CD Project Red can "almost" match with Cyberpunk. But NMS is on another level.
Completely agree with everything you said - i spent 500 hours in the day one build and loved it. This port is more impressive than many of the so called miracle ports we have had on Switch. Mark
It was so funny when people were trying to say the Cyberpunk paid DLC was the same redemption arc as No Mans Sky. No even close. NMS has all been free updates and actually has almost if not all of the promises made come to fruition.
I just bought the game a couple of days ago, it was on sale, and with the new update i wanted to try it... I have to say that i don't understand all the features of the game, and i only played like 7 hrs but, it's amazing, i really like the game even i don't understand it completely. But just exploring, flying and gathering resources is pretty fun :)
I am thoroughly enjoying revisiting this game after the new Worlds update. I had not played in nearly a year so you can imagine my shock at the added features and visuals. This is one of the greatest games I have ever played.
The fact that this game runs AT ALL on the Switch is a minor miracle given the power and memory bandwidth constraints of the hardware. This would definitely be a fun one to revisit on the Super Switch.
Good video! You're totally right about the redemption story. I backed the original game and that start was... bad. But they've not only turned it round, they've given it to supporters for free! I bought the game again for Switch because I was so impressed.
Seriously, the amount of quality content you Switchup guys are capable to write and upload is so impressive, I really loved this review. This game has been sitting in my wishlist for ages, but I don’t know if I will ever have the time to properly play it, seems to be so big and immersive!
been waiting for this! This has to be the pinnacle of "Miracle Ports" on switch. Somehow they made this patch work AND made the game overall run better. EDIT: Hot damn, ya'll made a mini-documentary for this!
Currently playing this game on the Switch and I’m absolutely blown away that it actually runs the way it does on the Switch. Sure we don’t have multiplayer, pop in is much more drastic compared to next gen, and we don’t get 60fps, but you know, it has heart on the Switch and it’s better than my day 1 experience on launch with the PS4.
Excellent video. Much like the development of this game, I can really tell that the making of this was a labour of love. I’ve never played NMS and have never really been interested but this has really piqued my interest. Great stuff 👍🏼
Played this back when it launched on PS4 and enjoyed it. Now after watching this video, it has made me super excited to have another go at it. Amazing work done!
This latest update looks astounding, wow. I think this officially makes this one of the best looking third party games on the platform now. Also I bet Hello Games is watching your videos! It's a good help I'm sure :D
I've had my eye on No Man's Sky for a while now and this latest update is just incredible. I'm amazed that a game like this can run on the Switch at all. I might just pick it up on sale in the near future!
Well this sure made me want to jump in again! Ive held off on buying this on a different system because I hoped the Switch version would get better. Glad to see that it has!
I thought I would never come back to this after the let down at launch but after all the effort and Mark’s enthusiasm I own it on two platforms. Despite the visual hit I even prefer exploring this wonderful game on the switch. Fair play to hello games, they are fully redeemed!
Nice video of course but seeing this guy and his team start to xhange eveything to what the game was suppose to be is still really awesome im glad you guys support this game and im glad him and his team are still given it there all to make that promise happen
NMS is a incredible experience - I've bought it on three different platforms now (Switch, XBox One, Steam), and it's by far my most played game of the past decade. Hello Games really do deserve an enormous amount of credit for the diligence and dedication they've put into this.
I've switched to playing this on Steam Deck but it's still so impressive on Switch and I loved my time playing it on it. Its an incredible port. Just wish there was a way to get my Expedition rewards on Switch over on to Steam Deck 😢
What they have done since launch goes above and beyond delivering their promises. Other developers would have moved on, or made all these improvements and expansions premium DLC. No Man's Sky is beyond what they originally promised in my opinion. The last few things they promised but haven't delivered are now incredibly minor, and the extra stuff they added in goes above and beyond what anyone could have asked for. Not only have they won back respect, but I feel they have earned genuine loyalty from their customers and I think Light No Fire will be massive.
I am loving this iteration of NMS on switch now! I've startred a fresh save and I am really enjoying the latest expedition. Hello Games have done a stirling job!!
I always wanted to play this but stayed away because of all of the criticism surrounding its release. I think now is the time to give it a shot thanks largely to your updated review. Thanks!
The only thing I dont like about nms is finding a great planet to build a main base on only to find a better more beautiful planet an hour later, rinse and repeat. Its probably one of the best games ive had the pleasure of owning and playing. Just the sheer magnitude of the different worlds, colors, fauna, animals, economies, interactions and things to do are insane
As much as this is a story of a developer making amends to its audience, this is also a story of a patient and thankful fanbase. Kudos to those that believed in this game and supported it from the hard times until now.
I’m playing on switch for the first time since 2020 and the game is truly breathtaking now. I often just walk around for 30 minutes or more on a single planet
Now that's what I call a video update and it's for a game that more than deserves it. Not played it for a couple of months, real life issues to contend with but I'm getting back to it soon.
Purchased No Man's Sky for Switch in the last sales and I am so amazed how this little machine can handle NMS almost flawlessly with some dips but perfectly playable without being downgrade version of the PC/Console versions. Hello Games really dedicated their talent to optimized their game to its maximum.
That game has been on my mind for a long time. It even got me excited for the idea of Starfield. Man, I am sad I missed the last sale. Then again, a physical might be better and cheaper!
I bought it on switch. it's definitely worth it. after playing starfield for 70+ hours and not being satisfied, I decided to try nms and got lucky as it was on sale. just wanted to explore and do space stuff. it beats starfield on that front by a mile. love the fact that you can ACTUALLY fly in and out of planets at will.
There is a certain fascination in seeing how much "blood" developers can squeeze out of the stone that is the Switch. I can't even imagine the software engineering work that was involved in getting the Switch version to this point and cramming a game of this magnitude into 3GB of RAM (1 GB is reserved for the OS leaving just 3 for games). We have come a long way from the days of the Gameboy/Game Gear/Lynx etc. where the portable ports of games were usually completely different versions of the games that bore only the most superficial resemblance to their "big brothers" on the main consoles.
5.6 GB. That’s how much storage space No Man’s Sky takes up on the Switch. An entire universe in 5.6 GB. I guess thats the magic of procedural generation and careful optimization. This is a miracle port if there ever was one.
They launched words on Switch? I honestly never expected this, I thought "ok Sean, you've done an amazing job already, the Switch 2 is near, it's understandable if this is it" yet, they fucking did it
Clearly their original failure was due to not having enough time to fully realize the ambitious game they wanted rather than wanting to trick us into buying a bad game. They had no obligation to update the game for so many more years like they did, yet they never gave up!
I own this game on pc and on switch I like my switch version as much as the pc version, pc when I want to play at home bigger graphic and the online, then I can enjoy my game on the go at work when I travel.
Man, I finally picked up this game after watching its journey and damn is the game impressive. The flight alone is WOW! The level of detail is sublime.
I’m up for more videos from SwitchUp that analyze the development and marketing of different games on Switch (native games or ports). Also, I’d love more content that justifies the use of a bull**** counter!!! 😂 Mark and Glen you guys are rockstars!
Thank you very much, a beautiful review and thank you especially to the entire development team. I now have the occasional dream of living on mars or looking up into the sky and seeing ships flying through the galaxy, imagine the future 👏🇨🇦.
fan of the chan but having done biz/adv creative consulting all i can think in EVERY SINGLE VIDEO IS: they shouldve called it 'Switched On' its an entendre; u literally switch it on but 'switched on' is a positive phrase that works lol
I’ve had this on my wishlist for a while was curious how the Nintendo Switch this newest update. I’ll have to grab this at some point. I hope they get online multiplayer working next. Looks very impressive

With this level of optimisation on this low end console I’m hoping we can get a 60fps wonderful looking “Switch 2” experience.
As a day 1 player I never thought we would ever come to this point. It has been an amazing journey and I'm excited for Worlds Part 2!
Wow this is such a moral boosting comment thank you Peter mate. It really means a lot as I know you've been with us since the start. Mark ❤
@@ppfclark Definitely mate - thank you mate! Mark
This might be my favorite video you’ve done so far! Absolutely adore this game. I’ve played every update besides this one so I’m definitely going to get back to it now.
Absolutely my comfort game.
Wow, thanks! Really kind of you to say that❤. Mark
Mark
The way I supported the developer was buying this game on 3 platform: PS5, switch and macOS. They deserved it
Amazing redemption story. I've always wanted to try it but wasn't sure how good it was on switch but after this review I'm buying it at the weekend 😊
Hope you enjoy it! Mark ❤
It was so funny when people were trying to say the Cyberpunk paid DLC was the same redemption arc as No Mans Sky. No even close. NMS has all been free updates and actually has almost if not all of the promises made come to fruition.
I've played very little, only in sandbox mode, and I'm overwhelmed by how much there is and I haven't even started building bases yet.
It’s pretty amazing to consider we have no idea what NMS will look like on switch even a year from now. They’re still going hard
I am thoroughly enjoying revisiting this game after the new Worlds update. I had not played in nearly a year so you can imagine my shock at the added features and visuals. This is one of the greatest games I have ever played.
I like this overview of this history here. Thanks 👍
Glad you enjoyed it! Mark
I have to admit, the trailer really gave a sense of wonder and vastness with the music and visuals. It's amazing what they've accomplished
The fact that this game runs AT ALL on the Switch is a minor miracle given the power and memory bandwidth constraints of the hardware. This would definitely be a fun one to revisit on the Super Switch.
Would love for them to release a new physical version that includes all of the dlcs
Lovely to see the faces behind a game❤
I wish more developers had this level of support for their games. Since launch this is practically a brand new game!
This is such an awesome video. I haven’t played it for a while, but definitely putting it on now
Thank you mate. Mark
NMS really is incredible. That's how you do it 🎉🎉🙌
Yeah it is pretty crazy they achieved this. Mark
This latest update looks astounding, wow. I think this officially makes this one of the best looking third party games on the platform now.
Also I bet Hello Games is watching your videos! It's a good help I'm sure :D
Great video, good hook, and clearly a lot of work - really appreciate it!
No mans sky in VR has been absolutely amazing for me, dont think i could play it normaly, but im glad they put it on switch.
I hope the game gets a next gen update for Super Switch / Switch 2
Ooh, that looks very nice and amazingly playable.
Our consoles may be old but they're not dead yet!
Ok, I've waited and waited for years wanting to just chill, explore, etc on train etc and now you've convinced me. Buying it now. Cheers lads 😊
Finally, a video about nms worlds update
Hope you enjoy it
You went into more detail than I thought with such a short video. Well done.
Been waiting for this review to jump back. Thanks for all your work, SwitchUp!
Ive read that GRIME has been patched up as well and it looks acceptable on NS now
Yep I did cover that
I am loving this iteration of NMS on switch now!
Amazing video. So interesting. Almost like a documentary. And now for the Xenoblade 3 review.
Hehehe it needs to happen
You guys make great history lesson videos as well now! :)
Thanks! 😃 My first time making one like that. Mark
Purchased No Man's Sky for Switch in the last sales and I am so amazed how this little machine can handle NMS almost flawlessly with some dips but perfectly playable without being downgrade version of the PC/Console versions. Hello Games really dedicated their talent to optimized their game to its maximum.
This was a great video. Very weel written recollection of what previous patches added
Fantastic presentation on this video man!
Than you mate I enjoyed making it. Mark
Uhhhhh wut? The 5.2 update looks incredible!! I know how much you love this game Mark, and I had an absolute blast just hearing you gush about it.
Thank you mate. Mark ❤
I love the attention you give no man's sky, the deves deserve it. What an amazing journey!
Man I loved jon danger, i had it on my Nokia Symbian Phone. What a nice memory
I've been playing it on the Steam Deck and it honestly feels like a whole new game compared to before
I picked this up during the recent sale but for PSVR. It’s great. I would love to have on switch too though.
Thank you very much, a beautiful review and thank you especially to the entire development team. I now have the occasional dream of living on mars or looking up into the sky and seeing ships flying through the galaxy, imagine the future 👏🇨🇦.
You cannot imagine how grateful I am for all these patch-related videos! Thank's man :)
fan of the chan but having done biz/adv creative consulting all i can think in EVERY SINGLE VIDEO IS: they shouldve called it 'Switched On'
its an entendre; u literally switch it on but 'switched on' is a positive phrase that works lol
“No Man’s Sky.” The greatest come back story in gaming history!🤙
Great video, it convinced me to go back to the game. Thanks!
Glad to hear it!❤ thanks
I bought it on ps4, Xbox series S and Switch! I will buy it again when the next gen comes out.
I’ve had this on my wishlist for a while was curious how the Nintendo Switch this newest update. I’ll have to grab this at some point. I hope they get online multiplayer working next. Looks very impressive
I love this game...but it also takes much blame for my backlog😅
I wouldnt be surprised if Light no Fire becomes one of the flagship games on the switch's successor
Been playing off and on since 2018. Double dipped and bought on switch. Dont regret it. My personal GOAT and the closest thing to a forever game for me.
Now, stop watching and go kill some bugs. Do your part.
