    In this short clip John Danaher compares Jiujitsu to Judo and wrestling. He says that Jiujitsu doesn't care about takedowns. Jiujitsu cares about what happens 3 seconds after the takedown. In Judo as soon as you hit the ground the match is over and you are out. But in Jiujitsu as soon as you hit the ground thats where the fight begins.

    BJJ should care more about takedowns. BJJ is always evolving. Maybe it’s time for intensive wrestling takedown drills to be incorporated.

      It's never going to so long as the scoring system remains as it is. They're only worth 2 points no matter how much amplitude you get, and you can't push guys out of the ring for points like in wrestling. Why work so hard for 2 points to just get put in someone's guard?

      If you love takedowns so badly go watch wrestling or Judo matches. Jiu Jitsu is all about the ground game. 😊

    In my style of jiu jitsu, I work up on my feet and on the ground. I work takedowns and groundwork equally, and both of them are very equally important. I have to get someone to the ground and keep them there, wherein I control and manipulate their body.

      For starters, you can get taken down yourself (even if you do practice take downs). You don't care what happens next? No ref to put you back on your feet

    What you guys don’t seem to realize is that you cant always take everyone down. And even then, fighting for the takedown often results in getting you tired, and I believe to intentionally get tired before we even hit the ground is stupid.

    Yeah John idc how profound you attempt to make this sound. Takedowns matter and will matter even more in the future. Especially in self defense when a throw/suplex can render you unconscious if you don't handle it correctly.

      you're not listeing. A takedown is valuable if you can transition to something from it. If the other guy just pops up again, it's a waste of energy

      @@goneinsixtyseconds Was about to say this. A throw is like a punch: unreliable, sometimes your opponent will be out after just one or they will take 20 of them and still be coming at you. Meanwhile there is no shrugging off a choke.

    If executed correctly
    The throw or takedown is all ya need to end the fight..
    But it also depends on what scenario he’s referring to..
    Street or sport.. two very different situations

    • @kommisar.
      @kommisar. 3 месяца назад

      He's referring to sport and only sport. I don't know why anyone would think he's talking about self-defense.

  • @johnhodgeman3980
    @johnhodgeman3980 2 месяца назад

    He's making a correct observation more so than defending it. In a real fight, the takedown could end the fight. A sub or choke could end it. Or a knockout punch. Considering that bjj is a grappling art, it should care about takedowns. Fights dont start on the knees or on the ground.
