- Root insurance appears to be the big upset for the automobile insurance industry by creating a price model mainly based on your driving habits not your location. People are saving up to 52% on their car insurance but is this a scam?
In this video I review my findings and unveil the actual ways Root insurance runs their models. Please comment with any questions
Correction: Test-drive period is on average 2-3 weeks according to Root

What are your thoughts and/or opinions?
I believe in this I want to invest.
They need a button to press when you're riding and not driving. If I can remember to do so, I then the location off when I'm riding and not driving
Just to inform you, they may have changed how they calculate your quote. When initially signing up I used a different zip code than what I'm currently using now. Since the change has been made, I now have a lower quote.
@@subtegral $600 for over 6 months :o yo thats $165/month less than what im paying :O
[ROOT ON] Hours:
"Drive during safer hours. Whenever possible, limit super late-night trips, especially on the weekends."
This is ridiculous, at least for some areas. Michigan and Ohio. I always drive at late night, weather I'm heading to another state to visit family, or just a run for fast food... "THERE IS NOBODY ON THE ROADS!" Literally, the safest time to drive is between 11PM-4:00AM. Especially highways and freeways, you're basically the only car on the road!!
910AM Superstation Funnies I imagine they’re doing that because those are also prime drinking and driving times.
@@joshmcopeland some people actually work during those times xD
drunk people at midnight is not safe.
Statistics, and I assume, their data as well, would disagree that late-hours are the safest driving times.
I appreciate the information. Must be fate that I took interest at nearly the same moment you uploaded this video.
PrimeBeefer You’re welcome! I’m glad it was just in time😉
I’ve been with root since November 2018 i renew next month and it only went up $5
I’m 24 and have 2 cars on my policy
2015 camaro
And a 2013 Nissan Rogue
Monthly cost $387 in Louisiana
Other companies wanted $600-1,000 i’m definitely saving
legionary illuminati went up because i changed my comp and collision from 1000 to 500
So you are currently in Louisiana using root insurance? Because I am and insurance is like $300 with Geico and i got $156 quote from root. I just need to know its legit and the rate won't just keep going up at renewal.
tyler green wait whatttttt are u fo reals omgggg nice so I can add two cars in the same policy in root???
Ernesto Guerrero yes you can as many as u want
tyler green wtf?? I'm paying $91/month with progressive.. I wouldn't pay $300/month
Great review! I always wondered about their claims service ever since I first saw them in RUclips advertisements .it will be interesting to see how they are in a year.
Right?! It sounds like making claims in house will be a good move
Their reviews have gone down slightly and they have lowered their marketing budget. I would say not amazing but I have not dove in super deep.
Great review! Thank you for your detailed and sincere input!
You’re welcome, I’m glad you found it helpful 😊
Before taking the test drive with root insurance i had progressive insurance and for full coverage i was paying 118.00$ and that was the cheapest i found but thanks to root now i pay 70.00$ for full coverage
I thank you for this information
Lol how much they paid you to say this
How is your situation now a year later ?
@@ziggy1222 still good and still the cheapest insurance
I can't find your follow-up video you mentioned in the video. I would like to hear your opinion about their progress since the previous video. You are awesome!
I had to search my library of videos to check. I didn’t do a follow up. Mainly because even though Root is still going strong-ish. They are starting to see how hard it is to make it amongst thousands of competitors. They cut back on their marketing drastically. Having an auto only platform with limited coverage I’m guessing isnt brining in the clientele they wanted.
This seems like such a good idea but one that could go really really wrong with their app messing up and thinking something else that isn’t happening
Roots pricing was amazing for me, they cut my rate almost in half. HOWEVER beware if life throws you a curve ball they do not care at all. I had a terrible accident at work and was in the hospital for about a month. By the time I got out and was able to see to my affairs; my policy had been cancelled for a little over 20 days. When I called Root to reinstate they basically told me to kick rocks. They said my policy could not be reinstated regardless of the reason it lapsed. The price was great but if the difference for you is not more than 20%-30% I would stick with a conventional insurer...Root has the compassion of a robot.
Thank you for sharing.
Hey, Steven. As we mentioned in response to your review on another site, we're truly sorry to hear about your situation. Feel free to reach us directly at socialmedia@joinroot.com if you have any questions at all. - Root Social Media Team
@@RootInsurance oh sure I bet you care 🤣🤣🤣. Insurance is such a scam to steal money
Thank you Steven. This is what makes the difference for me. I’ve had insurance before with no rhyme or reason to why they drop people. I’ve been with progressive for 20 years and never ever had a claim. I might as well keep looking or stay where I’m at.
I love my root insurance. I pay $42 a month for FULL coverage because that's what my financing company requires. I actually had an accident where two tires went flat after hitting a large pothole...called root and within an half an hour I was towed to a shop I drive a 2017 buick encore.. so I don't drive a piece of crap.
We're so glad you love it, Rebecca, and we're even happier to know you are safe and sound after the pothole. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. 😊
Seriously? My old and cheap 99' v6 mustang, with a perfect 10/10 score on the app, is over $200 a month in a small town with a clean record.
@@XDrippingxXBlood Look up mustang compilations on youtube. Lol
I have, plenty of stupid people roaring around in mustangs, the fast ones. I'm in a 99 v6 coup. They title different than a GT. It is not a sports car It is a pony car. Ask around the v6 especially the old 99 v6. Do you remember 2 valve pushed engines? 232 3.8 makes about 175 to the wheel brand new. My car ( which I bought for $650 ) is 20+ years old. My car is old enough to drive. It has over 240000 miles on it longer than the non Americans since being American matters here. This particular thread is for a 2017 car that cost more than 10X my car.
People who don't know cars don't need to run insurance companies when so many cars are mis labled. I don't drive a sports car it just looks like one. For now.
Problem with this concept is, soon as the app see's you driving poorly (let's say you are late for work one day)...they are going to drop the insurance, and you as a customer! Though sounds fantastic on the outside, it's all engineered basically so you never file a claim. They eliminate you at the start, if you're already a risk driver! So, put two and two together. I've already seen this happen, a female driver took the driving test, she was told she passed, but would not give her a quote and no policy! Someone had hit her, either after the test, or during. Obviously, they denied her insurance even though she passed the test, but Root would not tell her why they can't offer her a quote!
What state is your friend in? Some states not at fault accidents don’t count against you. I would be interested to know if that was the deciding factor or if it was something else.
That is the whole concept. If you’re any risk root is not for you. They are eliminating the higher risk drivers and only focusing on giving better prices to the lower risk drivers, according to their metrics. Having an accident raises your risk with any insurance company. Some states don’t allow them to be rated if not at fault, until you’ve had 2 or more.
They want the guy/gal that works his or her shift, drives home and to work daily, maybe goes to the store a couple of time but essentially keeps the same speed, stops slow, starts slow etc... to the person they will offer a super cheap rate. To the latter they won’t even insure.
If they don’t fit the mold they don’t get in. If they do, the price “could” be way cheaper.
Now I want a bumper sticker that says, Don’t hit me - I have Root!
🤣
Explain what happen to State Farm rates years ago please . You touched on the topic lightly at the end of video.
I don't go into real in dept on them but here is the video I talk to most about it in: ruclips.net/video/cLV2BNBvGXQ/видео.html
Did you ever do a follow up video? I'm interested because I am pondering joining them on Feb. 3rd. My quote from Root is $55 less a month than what I currently pay with Direct General.
I have been thinking of making a follow up video yes. Personal opinion (please take lightly due to lack of research)? I have usually saw the direct general as a last resort option. Switching for less money seems like a good move. You can always switch back if you have to.
Sure the risk is the price may change but likely very little of at all.
Just make sure you’re getting the same or better coverage to accurately compare both companies
@@ThinkInsurance It's much better coverage. Basically full, comprehensive coverage whereas I only had liability with Direct. I was mistaken on the difference per month tho, it's only $20 less a month to go with Root, but the coverage is leagues better. But because of how new Root still is, a part of me is hesitant.
Hey, Drew. We hope you give us a shot. We're here if you have any questions.
Drew Cade to be honest, I would make the switch myself if it was $20/month savings and you get more coverage. That means it would be less if you declined the extra coverage.
One of the reasons I would is because the direct general is similar to root where you are going direct to the company.
Ultimately you have to make that call but it seems like a better move to me.
Considering getting it. Thanks Mark!
It’s worth the trail I would say. Let me know how it goes, I’m curios to get some feedback
I agree with state farm comment. Bout two years ago I was paying $90/a month. I liked them so much I decided I'd go through them again. But now they wanted close to $400/a month and I was like nooooooooppppeee
Jae's Productions so which one u chose in the end?
Wait so you have to use the GPS thing only for that 3 month period right? After that do you still have to use it? Also if they are using your gpa so doesn't that mean it uses your cellular data?
I believe it's 3 weeks and then you can shut it off but they encourage you to keep it on.
What do you think of this for Uber drivers? Especially living in Philadelphia. I drive only on weekend nights for Uber, which may be a negative algorithm to create.
And is his a hard check on the credit report?
Hi, Are Oh Bee. We're happy to cover your personal driving, but please keep in mind that *all* of your trips will be considered during the test drive. We do run a soft-pull on credit, but the primary factor we look at to determine your quote is your test drive.
What if on my trips I don't turn on Root app? Not covered if accident?
Are you buying the stock? I'm outside the US and the company looks great, but a lot of bad reviews in google. Are those the bad drivers root is trying to get rid off or do you think the service is worth it? I'm outside the US and I can't test the service. Good video and thanks for the review.
I don’t have any plans of buying stock in Root. I’ve seen some bad reviews more and more when I looked last
I'm from Colorado and was prompted that I have to pay up front and was covered while I take a test drive. Only information I could find was "for qualifying Root users...", day one coverage was offered. Is this a Colorado State requirement or a person to person thing?
I don’t understand what you are asking.
Root, that I know of, doesn’t offer coverage at all until you’ve taken the test drive and been approved. That is the whole point of them. If it offered you coverage day one then it’s likely a glitch. You may want to email them directly - socialmedia@joinroot.com
If you we’re promised coverage anywhere and paid a premium for that coverage you would have signed paperwork and be provided with ID cards and proof of insurance (declarations page).
@@ThinkInsurance Here are some answers from the FAQ section from their website:
'How do I get Root’s Insurance from Day One, before taking the test drive?'
"We’re expanding across the nation quickly and creating different insurance models to fit the needs and laws of each state. Depending on the state you live in, and after downloading the Root app and answering a few questions, you may have the option to have Root Insurance immediately. Right now, the only way to get insurance immediately is if it’s offered to you in the app. Either way, you’ll take the test drive. The better you drive, the better your rate!"
'What is different about Root’s Insurance from Day One?'
"If you’re offered insurance from day one, you don’t have to wait to complete your test drive-you’re insured right after you choose and buy your policy. This means you’re covered by Root while you drive to determine your final rate."
Person to person I assume. I never received that prompt
I'm in Cleveland Ohio I only pay 99 dollar then it when down to 88 . I only have it for two months
Glad to hear you're saving with us, Sade!
That's where I am I pay $42 a month
I’m getting my license when I turn 17, if I drive good will it still be cheap it will it be expensive because I’m a new driver? Or does it just depend on how I drive?
It will put more emphasis on your driving habits but they do take into consideration the normal rating factors as well so your driving experience may affect the rate/price as well, however, consider all companies are going to calculate that in their rate as well.
I dread my commute as half the drivers are driving the speed limit while the rest of us are 9 over and having to change lanes 20 times to get around the slowpokes.
So I need to wait three months before I can be insure
You got a point because I cannot get in touch with the claim department at Root. I'm 64yrs old I don't play games in I don't lie Jesus don't like a lier
My name is Shawna Morgan in I'm with root.in there are friends in family numbers watching me in my insurance company Root before the will go with them they said.

What if you have Bluetooth in your car and it's connected to your car. I have controls on my steering wheel that I would use. Would that be considered usage of the phone, even when I havent touched my phone? Just curious.
I’m not 100% certain but I think since your screen isn’t actually on and your phone shows that it won’t hurt it.
Hi, Vinoshka. We measure focused driving, meaning we want to know how frequently you’re interacting with your phone while you’re behind the wheel. Entertainment and navigation apps should not affect your score when they’re running in the background. That said, if you’re interacting with your device a lot, you aren’t focused on the road and that will impact your score. Similarly, the test drive is not the time to let any of your passengers use your phone while you’re driving. A passenger playing on an app while the car is in motion may interfere with our app’s scoring system.
@@RootInsurance Being a retiered truck driver, DOT says we are allowed to touch once to answer, touch once to end call. Some of us do everything hands free. BlueParrott allows you to say Answer, or touch headset once and say Dial"Who ever is in your contacts", also, Read text Message, reply to message all without touching anything. Also they require phone to be within arms length and mounted. Some in family sitting at light or stop send quick message and then stop when llight turns green or time to turn. Considering since we have two cars and motorcycle currently with Geico and no accedents/tickets in 40 years.
When will they be in Florida? or the USA Virgin Islands? They are already in Hawai.

Day 4 into my test drive I noticed the focused driving is in the purple! Now..... I NEVER touch my phone when driving, and yes, I drive alone. I use Waze for notifications for upcoming road conditions and Apple Music. I use my hands free to skip songs on playlist. And my phone is on an upright magnetic mount. So.... @Rootinsurance why is it telling me I’m not focused! Help!
Hey, Kimberly. It sounds like you are staying focused on the road. Keep it up! Entertainment and navigation apps should not affect your score when they’re running in the background. That said, if you’re interacting with your device a lot, you aren’t focused on the road, and that will impact your score. If you have any other questions, please feel welcome to reach our customer support team at contact@joinroot.com.
What happens if you get pulled over? Some police don't take a phone app insurance card they want paper copy
They should. I have several companies I work with that are all paperless. However, If you are concerned about that or you know your local police are just not up to date on technology, you can always print off a copy of the ID cards.
In the paste I have had police call me (the insurance company) to verify a customer had insurance. It really depends on the policeman 👮♂️ or 👮♀️ police woman
Hey, Jason! As Mark mentioned, you can print the insurance card from the app. We also mail it to you!
They can mail you a copy or you can print it.
I just got accepted to root. I haven't taken it yet. It would cut our monthly bill in about half which is what I need, but I am concerned if I ever got in an accident, would they cover the full price of what the vehicle is worth if it were totaled? Almost sounds too good to be true
If you have comprehensive and collision then you should be okay. There is not difference in value. All of the insurance companies use ACV (Actual Cash Value) which will say in writing. That means if you are in an accident they will pay what your car is worth at the time of occurrence minus your deductible.
I would assume they calculate the value similar to other carriers where they which is blue book/ what your car would sell for with the same features etc... I hope this helps
Thanks, Mark. Yes, coverage is based on ACV (Actual Cash Value).
Hey, C E. Thanks for checking us out. To reconfirm what Mark said, coverage is based on ACV (Actual Cash Value) of your vehicle. If you want to go over your quote, feel free to email our customer support team at contact@joinroot.com. Also, here is some information on our Day One model: joinroot.com/help/day-one.
Know that they low ball your car, in our case by $2900. Now I am forced to get an attorney. I'm not their client, I'm the victim of being rear ended. So how does this affect you? In all likelihood I will have to sue the kid that hit us that has Root Insurance. So imagine the stress of admitting your at fault, could have been a quick easy resolution, but now because you bought cheap insurance, your going to be sued. And this doesn't even include my injuries!
I’m scared that my insurance will go up , I received two tickets two days ago and have had 4 prior to that. Just small traffic tickets. Right now my quote is $151 and I have to get my license reinstated by court February 5th, so I need to get the policy in effect immediately but I won’t be driving. Will it cancel the policy if I’m not able to do the test drive immediately?
I’m not certain what you mean exactly. If you need the insurance before February then i would do it if it’s affordable for you.
Odds are yes the price will go up IF/When your driving record is re-ran and those tickets come into play. If you’ve already purchased a policy then it won’t go up until your renewal IF it does at all.
Hi, Jazmyne. If you were offered insurance from day one so that you could be covered during the test drive, your test drive would start on the date your policy begins. If you have any questions about this or anything else, feel free to reach out to our customer support team at contact@joinroot.com.
Does it still track you after the test drive period?
Hey, Chris! We do, but we're no longer using your score to rate you. You're also welcome to disable those permissions once you complete your test drive.
@@RootInsurance do you guys insure financed cars?
We do, @@IMNOTMONAE13!
How do they know that you're the one driving? For the trial period I'm only suppose to drive myself places and in my own vehicle? My buddies and and I love to carpool to save money and time, so how's that suppose to work?
If you’re carpooling to the same location you normally go I don’t believe there is a way around the app rating your co worker. The app normally can detect an abnormal driver but in your case you might ask them for the trial period to drive like miss daisy until the test is over. Make sure you don’t have your phone on and use it during the drive.
You may not be the fit for them as well and that’s okay too. You have options.
Hi, Alpha. A lot goes into that decision on the data analysis end, but the short answer is that we analyze the motion patterns from your phone sensors. There are really distinct movement patterns for driver vs. passenger and car vs. other forms of transportation.
Yeah Root did tell me to stay off the cell in they are right people call me in I tell them I can't talk in I have road with other people in my app is on I did worry about that because they drive really fast so I'm not riding with others
Shawna Morgan.
So I drive a tractor trailer. Can I turn off with out getting penalized by them
Hey, ElSlickVic. We don't recommend turning off your permissions as it can interfere with the app's ability to rate your driving. We encourage you to take the test drive anyway. Good drivers are often surprised by how much they can save even when driving for work.
Same here I just downloaded it so we will see
Hello I have 2 other drivers on my old policy is the quote they give me for me or all 3 drivers?
pumba muzic the quote is for whoever took the test drive
You want to make sure you have them listed as drivers to get an accurate quote but as far as monitoring the driving only you (the primary policy holder) needs to be monitored.
That's correct, @@ThinkInsurance, but the more drivers taking the test drive, the merrier. 😊 When you receive a quote, you can review the covered drivers and vehicles right in the app.
Does the app track you everyday from the start of your policy?
Hi, Queen Kinsey. The app will continue to collect your trip data after you finish the test drive, but we no longer use your score to rate you.
@@RootInsurance okay, thanks for a swift response. Another question. I applied online and input my current policy number. It already gave me a quote and wants me to pay. How does that happen if I haven't done a test drive?
Hi, Queen Kinsey. That sounds like our Day One model (joinroot.com/help/day-one). If you are already insured and wish to test drive before purchasing a policy with Root, please send proof of your current insurance policy to our customer support team at contact@joinroot.com so that they can help.
@@PrincessOfTMH I assume If you dont have car insurace at the time its giving yu the option to receive it while yu take your driving test. But since yu are already insured I thought they would cancel your policy for yu first before asking yu for a payment but not too sure.
Hi, Shauniece. We have the Day 1 model to offer insurance during a test drive if it's needed. If it's not needed, our customer service team can be reached at contact@joinroot.com to help with that. We would only cancel someone's policy with another company if they finish the test drive and we are able to offer them coverage full time.
Root told me they were going to track my driving for one month they never said nothing about 3 and 4 and 5 months David said after one month of tracking my driving I'm in the clear now I'm hearing people say they check your driving for 3 months but David at root insurance company told me they were on the track my driving for one full month and I believe that I have faith in root Insurance that's all to it I want them damn them until they prove to me that they are good people and so far they seem to be a good company I am going to give them a chance just like they giving me a chance

I wish they had a button to click when you're riding and not driving. Instead, I just turn off the location when I'm riding
Hey, there. We recommend leaving the requested permissions on at all times during the test drive. Otherwise, your test drive can take much longer to complete. Rest assured, the app can tell when you're driving (vs. riding as a passenger).
Root Insurance how can you tell?
I’m confused. I applied to get a quote and I got a quote immediately. Do I still need to do the test drive?
Yes. Some states they have to quote it ahead of time but I think you’ll still need to do the test drive
@@ThinkInsurance I paid for the insurance and I’ll have full coverage for 6 months. So can it get taken away then?

What happened if I use RUclips for music while driving I have to touch RUclips to change so gs will the algorithm think I'm a bad driver?
I would imagine so. Having RUclips up while driving seems like it would be considered distractive driving. Searching for a new video or song to play and looking at your phone would be considered distracted driving. At least that’s what a policeman would say if he pulled you over for changing songs on RUclips.
Now if you were doing RUclips red and the phone is off and it’s playing music I don’t know if that is considered. As long as you don’t turn your screen on. Something like that you would want to contact root for clarification.
Good observation, @@ThinkInsurance ! We're looking at how often you engage with your phone while you're driving, so if you're regularly using the app while driving, it would hinder your ability to stay focused.
Now are you covered while you're in the test drive phase????
Not typically no. Not unless you've been given an offer and accept it before hand.
Typically you need to take the test drive before you get an offer
That's correct. We can't advise you to take the test drive without being covered, as it is illegal to drive without insurance. We would advise getting a policy elsewhere that has an easy cancellation policy to cover you while you take the test drive. Hope that makes sense. That said, we offer a model that provides coverage during the test drive, and once you download the app and create your account, we’ll let you know if you’re eligible.
I just turned 18 and I only have 280 cash would that be anuff?
I have no idea. There are so many variables that make up your price. You should go watch my insurance 101 video. It may help you understand what you need to know

Does root give military discount for soldiers?
No, I don’t believe they offer military discounts, as of today.
Hi, Tariq. Typically, the only discount available is for good driving, which is rated during your test drive. If there are any additional discounts available in your state that you qualify for, those would have automatically been applied to your quote.
He must work for them or owns the xompany
I do not, the reason I made this video as mentioned in the video is because it was trending on google. I figured people would want an agents perspective and that’s what my channel is about.
What if my (toddler) daughter is playing with my phone while I am driving? Does that count?
During your trial period yes. It is monitoring your driving habits from your phone. I would recommend during the drive period you let her draw on the back of your seats like mine did 🤦🏻♂️:).
Mark Flockhart 😂 too late for that. She drew on my car ceiling too!
Hey, Allison. If you have any reason to believe any specific app is negatively impacting your score, we suggest holding off on using it while you test drive. Unfortunately, that includes children too, as it may interfere with the app’s scoring system during the test drive.
Root Insurance I use my Bluetooth that automatically connects to my car to talk on the phone or play music. Does that interfere also?
Hey, Allison. We'd recommend making sure that anything you need (navigation, music) is set up *before* hitting the road. If you are regularly engaging with your device while driving, it could impact your score. Feel free to reach out to our customer support team with any other questions: contact@joinroot.com.
What if youre in your friends car and they aren’t good drivers?
It’s a hit or miss if it rates the ride at that point. If it’s a random occurrence then I wouldn’t think too much into it because they are tracking the average driving habits

What if driver has 2 phones 2 phone numbers and leaves Root phone at home a lot?
Then it won’t rate the driving as much. 😉
@@ThinkInsurance which would be a better rate? They just gave me a quote without the app of $204 a month. Does that mean I don't qualify for their drive program and based on my past that's their offer only?
What state are you in?
You’ll need to read over what the rate they sent you means. My guess is you’re in a state they are required to provide insurance first and then you have to take the test drive which will positively or negatively impact it further depending on your results

Can I delete the app when I don't want it to track my driving and than add it back when I want it to track it
I wouldn’t recommend turning it off at all during the test drive period in case it messes up the tracking. If they deny you because of that you don’t get a second chance as of right now. Once the test drive is finished you can turn off the tracking all though, you can delete the app, Instead you can turn off the tracking in case you need to access any of your policy info or ID cards etc...
Hi, Yg. We actually recommend leaving the app running at all times during the test drive so that there are not issues collecting data. Once you complete the test drive, feel free to disable those permissions.
@@RootInsurance Can they delete the app, once the test drive is over? (Is the important question here). Because disabling permissions, is not disabling the app. "Once the test drive is over, can people remove the app from the phone?"
Hi, @@liveuntetheredmusepodcast4832. Yes, you are welcome to, but we don't recommend it as it's your one-stop-shop for all things related to your policy and claims.
What about if im using the google maps screen has to be on the whole time
I don’t believe that will affect it unless you’re touching it while driving
Hey, Luis. Entertainment and navigation apps should not affect your score when they’re running in the background. That said, if you’re interacting with your device a lot, you aren’t focused on the road and that will impact your score. The test drive is not the time to let any of your passengers use your phone while you’re driving. For example, a child playing on an app while the car is in motion may interfere with our app’s scoring system. If you have any reason to believe an app is affecting your score, we suggest exiting out of it before you start driving. Feel free to reach out to contact@joinroot.com for more help.
How does the app know if im driving or if im a passenger in my friends car? Lol
It recognizes your patterns and is said to be able to calculate the driving habits vs the ride vs the magical unicorns 🦄 that follow you, lol.
I think it would be a nice feature where you could let the app no you’re a passenger from time to time. Then again that would make it easier to cheat the app I guess for those looking to cheat their way in.
We appreciate the suggestion, Mark. Currently, the app takes the work away from you so that you can let it run in the background for the entire test drive if you'd like.
Root Insurance my phone connects to my Bluetooth and I use the steering wheel button the change my music a lot, will that affect the score?
My phone automatically bluetooth connects to my car? And it says that I'm on my phone? How does that work?
You may want to email them directly on that one. help@joinroot.com Def let us know what they say. I tried tagging them but the @root insurance or @rootinsurance +rootinsurance isn't working today :-(
Thanks, @@ThinkInsurance. Sorry to hear of the trouble tagging us.
Hi, Trish. We measure focused driving, meaning we want to know how frequently you’re interacting with your phone while you’re behind the wheel. It’s important to stay focused on the road and not your phone. If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out to Customer Support at contact@joinroot.com.
Are you insured right away?
Hey, there. We offer two models. With our Day One model, you would be able to purchase coverage for the test drive. If you are eligible for that option, the app will let you know once you set up your account.
Duhhhh...it is all about selling your GPS data to potential advertisers. They make exponentially more selling your movements than from premiums.
Good thought! I thought this too at first. After I did some more research I found they claim they don’t. Here is a quote from their blog page: “We never sell your data. Period.”
“We are in the business of selling insurance, not data. The value of your trust is far greater than the gain of selling your data. Our longevity is in mind-that means it’s vital to earn your trust for the long haul. And since we commit to it in our privacy policy, we’re ethically (and legally) bound to honor this promise.”
@@ThinkInsurance Yes, but someone (if not already has) will be "Stealing" that data! Happens every single day... so YES they are basically selling the data LOL
Lol, I mean that can happen to any company. My nephew started using an app that pays you for walking. He didn’t even know or care (he’s 15) but they’re really paying him to watch his patterns and where he goes etc... there’s money in knowledge/data. I’m glad Root doesn’t sell the info but yes I suppose they could be hacked like Target was a few years back. I mean Geico or State Farm or Allstate could too, it’s just a matter of who wants to hack them and if they are successful.
They literally cut my bill in half! Great price, just stay off your phone and don't have a lead foot. I've had no issues so far.
other companies u get their insurance then you do the monitoring.. it's kinda of shady in a way
Hey, Mastroz. We offer a model that provides coverage during the test drive, and once you download the app and create your account, we’ll let you know if you’re eligible. Otherwise, you would test drive first.
THEIR NOT IN NEW YORKKKKKKK 😓😓😓😓😓😓💔💔💔💔💔
:,(
I did like them for my first 6 month policy now they keep jacking up the price. 👎
Yea, trust me I hate it when rates go up on a renewal! I work with 17 companies right now and it does happen. May I ask, How much of a price increase did you see? Did they tell you why it went up?
I was paying went up about $100 for my 6 month policy for 2 vehicles in Texas. All they said was there is several factors can be the vehicles, the zip code etc. lol okay. Also when I signed up I was told that my policy would remain the same because I did great on the test drive that was bull. And no I have no tickets dui’s never been in a accident. Good channel just subscribed! 👍
Thanks for sharing AND subscribing 😉 - I’m glad I’ve been able to help!
What if you had multiple cars and only wanted to insure 1 or 2 of them?
Your state would likely require you to either insure the second vehicle or un-register it. As long as it’s un-registered you don’t HAVE to insure it.
If you are going to try and insure it with another company that would likely cost more and most companies frown upon that.
If you just want to park it, you will likely be cheaper to put the 2nd car in storage which will remove the liability cost and save you money over all. You’ll need to get direction from your insurance on the steps to take there but it will probably be cheaper than not insuring it at all
Thanks, Mark. You are able to choose which cars you would like to have on your policy. The cars that are not on your policy will not be covered in the event of an accident.
They promised lower rates and lied. They said I was driving good until the very last day then my rates shot up to what my old company was charging! $1.50 cheaper a dollar fifty get the fuck out of here
Hi, Brad. Unfortunately, our pricing models can't save everyone money. Thank you so much for giving us a try.
What happens if I give my son my phone when we’re in the car he watches Netflix when we on the road.
Then it will count as distracted driving. It’s all based off the app on your phone. He’ll have to find something else to do while you’re in your test run.
Gonna try it but the whole. Hitting bumps. And. Getting picky. Thing. May be a factor. What if your ride. Is older needs tires. Or stalls. Etc etc. ... Cuz the roads can suck. Destractions Soo I will try it. Hope it's not. To sensitive. Tecnology THESE DAYS SHOULD BE ABLE TO. BE PERFECT
Let me know how it goes. From what i could tell they are more interested in commonality with trips and speed. Def don’t unlock your phone while driving 😉
Hey, Ry. Mark's right-we're looking at your overall driving habits and patterns, so as long as your driving safely, no need to worry.
Then your car is a liability...progressive canceled my account when my battery died a few times...said my car was a liability

LMAO damn smh
states that support $ 50 $ 100
I can’t think of a state that doesn’t offer $50,000/$100,000 - it’s a little low for coverages depending on your income and assets but pretty much every state I know offers that coverage option
What a chad lol
