Bob, if you'd like to see Lil Ugly Mane at his peak, not only in terms of production but also in terms of lyrics, storytelling and pure vibe, listen to his single "Uneven Compromise". It is a 9 minute song split up into 4 distinct segments and it is truly his entire style and soul as Lil Ugly Mane condensed into an opus. React to it or don't, but listen to it at least once, please
this album is so bizarre but thats what makes it so special. it is truly one of a kind. also PLEASE react to lil ugly mane's recent album, volcanic bird enemy and the voiced concern. in my opinion its a top 3 album ever made, and wildly different from this one.
I really hope he does! In my opinion it's when you hear Mane's other work that you start appreciating EVEN MORE the range of what he has released? I mean who has put out in his discography stuff like Slick Rick, Bitch I'm Lugubrious along Clapping Seal or Cursor?
Finally some more thoughts on the final album ever created. I guess this is end of your musical journey so sad but it’s been a good ride. See ya on the other side Bob
Bro I highly recommend you check out some of his other projects, I’m sure many ppl have already said this but every single project he’s ever put out sounds completely different than the last. Mista Thug is the only album he has with this particular sound (unless you count Playaz circle). But I would love to see your take on his album Oblivion Access. It leans MUCH more into the depression side of things, it’s literally darkness and despair personified. It goes even weirder and more experimental with the production too. It’s definitely a challenge to listen to at points but man is it a trip. I’m from the same city as LUM, he’s held as an underground hero here in Richmond VA, so it’s been really cool to see you reviewing his music
listen to Volcanic Bird Enemy and The Voiced Concern by LUM it is my favorite album ever made, and it is incredibly relatable to me. It has helped me through the roughest mental struggles of my life.
Ben Shapiro would spontaneously combust if he heard this album. That dude couldn't handle WAP. There's no chance he lives through Mista Thug Isolation.
So glad this album grew on you over the week, definitely agree that you just need to settle into the sound and let it be what it is. Lil Ugly Manes catalogue across multiple aliases is pretty wild so I cant imagine youd have time to really dive into it lol. But if are interested in listening to more of him, seeing your reaction to his latest album "Volcanic Bird Enemy..." would be amazing. It is so vastly different from this album, way more lowkey and chill, breakbeats/samples/scratching, and lyrically one of the best portrayals of depression ive ever heard. Even if you dont think youll do another ugly mane reaction, id def recommend you just flick through it in some spare time, VERY cool unique sound that i think would catch your ear for sure.❤
If your wondering about stuff he changed / demos, check out Three Sided Tape Volume 1. It has a bunch of demos / early versions of songs on here. Hoping we get more LUM reactions in the future
bob you have to listen to his other material it would really blow you away, he is one of the most versatile artists ive heard in so long he is truly one of a kind
Hey Bob. Great video. I may be a bit late, and you may not see this, but I think it would be amazing if you followed up this album sometime with Lil Ugly Mane's newer album, 'Volcanic Bird Enemy and the Voiced Concern". It's a wildly different experience than Mista Thug Islolation and offers a great perspective into what Lil Ugly Mane has been through since 2011. I think you would get a lot of value out of listeming to both records close together. Thank you for all the great content over the years, it's been really fun watching you discover new pockets of music every week. I look forward to the next one ✨ Edit: spelling
You should check out Lil Ugly Mane's song Send Em 2 Tha Essence, it is a bonus track on this album Mista Thug and it's really good definitely worth a listen you won't regret it
the way lum totally tears down and deconstructs the pretty jocular and ott character he portrays on MTI over the course of his next releases (uneven compromise, evil deed blues, & oblivion access) is some of the greatest shit ive heard in rap music. once you reach bedwetter, the character is obviously totally gone. a layer has been peeled away. 'man wearing a helmet' is perfect hip hop. i think travis realized that folks were always gonna know him as ully mane no matter what he labels his work under, and also that he really doesn't have to adhere himself to whatever he's done with the name in the past. he isn't indebted to some particular sound or narrative or character. i think it was the right call,, & not just for how funny it is to hear shit like volcanic bird enemy & his recent singles come out of someone with the name 'lil ugly man' lmao no matter ur feelings on this record you gotta listen to the rest of his "mainline" works, on or off camera, shits just too important
might get lost in the shuffle of other requests, but i would really love to see a reaction to his track Uneven Compromise. his recent music is amazing in its own right, but afa his straight up rap music, nothing touches that song to me. it's a single 4 part 10+ minute track w/ multiple beats so it's more like an EP, but i think it'd make a great short video
hey bob, it was great to listen to the album together with you, but allow me to mention a verse (one of my favorites, by the way) that you apparently missed. in "no slack in my mack", track number 14, ugly mane says: "Balling on my mind-Kareem Abdulla oblongata". genius annotation explains it like this: "He has balling on his mind in the meaning of “to be rich”, but he makes an allusion to the retired basketball player, Kareem Abdul Jabbar who had balling on his mind in the meaning of playing basketball." "The Medulla Oblongata is a part of the brain, the wordplay extends beyond just ‘oblongata’. Abdula is Abdul + Medulla." again, great video & listening. cheers!
Please check out Overly Dedicated by Kendrick Lamar. It's so underrated and overshadowed by all of his later albums, literally no one ever talks about it and it makes me sad
Please listen to his other projects or at the very least check out Uneven Compromise. I feel like that gives you a better idea of who LUM is as an artist and person overall
this album is good at first but try a second or third listen... its like a troll album - the beats are tight but the lyrics real fucking dumb on some tracks and it just isn't nearly as good on repeated listens and is actually pretty fucking boring once that initial shock wears off.. legendary albums have more longevity than this shit.
Bob's reaction to volcanic bird enemy would be his greatest video ever🙏
I need that in my life
still need to

Bob will be blown away if he reacts to that song, completely different tone from most of MTI. React to it Bob, you'll like it.
You left out “On Doing An Evil Deed Blues” too
Pleeeeeease
