Most overlooked fix for 3rd gear grind: adjust clutch pedal all the way forward. As the clutch wears down, you eventually wont be able to fully disengage the transmission from the engine causing grind.
Watch the modern performance site video about transmissions. I use regular motor oil it cures the transmission issues. I’ve had my car 16 years no tranny issues.

Probably synchros or the gear itself common problem this 3rd gear in those cars.
