Cooper came to the track (Bradenton Motorsports Park) the next morning, with another intake complete with injectors and TB. Wouldn’t take a penny for it, just wanted me to ship it back to him when I got home to Texas.

  • @alexpond2390
    @alexpond2390 2 года назад +8

    I had a starter short on me the same way, it was covered in oil from the valve cover gasket leaking all over it and started smoking and melting my positive cable from the battery to the starter. I replaced the melted cable and my starter and it stopped smoking and melting the cable. You did the right thing, you should address the oil leak and trade for the neon. You can make money with content from the neon, I'd watch those videos, I've always wanted an srt-4. You're doing a good job Coop!

    Srt4 was one of the best cars I have ever owned. 60+k miles of beating the hell out of it. WOT shifting all the time. Multiple top speed runs on it. The trans finally started to grind at 76k miles. I probably could of saved it if I actually serviced the trans and didn't ride around on a shot clutch for so long.
    Fbo and 100% meth spiking 29psi on a stock turbo down to 19psi. It pissed a lot of people off from 40-110 lol

      I had a 04’ GT35r78 hybrid turbo, DCR head, stage 3 cams, 2.6 stroker. ARM infinity stand alone wisco pistons, Eagle Ibeam aluminum rods, (head was 2K with out cams) Bwoody front drag set up, custom tubular exhaust man, 2200cc injectors, twin 550 fuel pumps with boomba rail with Arro fuel AN lines with regulator and return system. Basically fully built with RPM snow methanol kit , AFC neo piggy back fuel trim , C16 race fuel with 100oc tune. Secret trans built, fuck you name it . Dyno 567Hp on 100 oc 690 on C16, 702hp with 511tq with C16 and meth kit with a before it’s time IAT chiller developed by me. On the 5 speed. Basically every track day ment a 2000$ trans rebuild lol. Man I miss that car. Best time 10.104 @ 138 spinning with 1.67 60ft so tons left in table. That neon seemed kinda clapped coming from some one who owned a clapped srt4 neon. oil smoke on decel, eBay exhaust, sounded like a boost leak, sun faded paint etc etc, parts are cheap but transmission parts are becoming more scarce, not much support for the T-850 unless you’re wanting to build it just seems like a money pit car from my point of view

      @Nick78111 2 года назад

      Didn't seem all that bad, sounded like the stock turbo, didn't hear any leak. I do think the white smoke after the pull could definitely be the turbo though, could also be something as simple as needing a new PCV valve. Fuck third gear and good luck finding an input shaft for these. Mine is smoking on startup, need to replace valve seals =/, other than that, it has been a reliable daily driver for 4 years now.

    neons aren't bad, they do need alot of upkeep to stay nice. I put over 340'000 on a 1996 5 speed manual neon sport after highschool when I was broke. It leaked a ton of oil, once a year it would spring a valve cover leak into and fill one of the spark plug holes, and It would need an egr valve and a new cat before smogging every 2 years. oh and the interior started falling apart. It only left me stranded 3 times in 10 years : once with a fuel pump going out, another blowing an engine fuse and once on a hot day it vaporlocked and I walked into town rode back with the tow truck then it ended up starting after I open and closed the fuel rail line. and I bought the driver a 24 pack of coors for the help. Everytime it broke me and my dad repaired it on the side of the road.

    You did the right thing! I’ve had that happed on a F350 7.3l diesel, it would just start turning over in the middle of the night until the batteries were dead and the starter fried, it was actually caused by the fuse box getting wet because of clearance lights and the sun visor leaking. The reason your starter most likely did what it did is just a dead short in the solenoid, it happens unfortunately 😳😳😳😳

    I was going to offer up my 2005 Jetta GLI big turbo car. Then I realized just how rare they are down here in FL. I have only seen 1 other one since I moved from NH last October.

    You did the right thing. You didn't have to help and do what you did, it was the wholesome and kind thing. Many would have said tough shit and carried on. Those aren't the good people out there though and they will come unstuck eventually.

    Coop, I only wish I had something good to trade for the old Tahoe, my wife would love that truck. And kudos for not leaving the guy stuck with a non running car. It wasn’t your responsibility at that point to do all that, you’re an awesome guy.

    Did the right thing- I sold my Mazda 323 with 200,000+ trouble-free miles- put the cash in my pocket and walked away- guy calls me and says 'I'm still parked- it just won't move'. We had just test driven so I thought he must have the handbrake on- but no, it chose that one time for the converter to die! But- $600 for the new converter and then listed and got $1000 more than I'd sold it for the first time so came out in front!

    You did the right thing. You traded it as a working, good to be a daily car but it was already broken and the guy didn’t even left his driveway. Unfortunate situation all around and it’s sad and frustrating that it turned into a panic but the Tahoe was broken.

    I just recently had a weird starter problem. Preemptive put a new one on last year changing head gasket, because its SVT focus. Well a Monday morning turn key over and get one single click, so just take truck to work. Anyway tried to Jumpstart, same thing, single click. I just assume it's the starter. On focus you have to take the entire intake manifold off to get to it. Put new starter on, turn key, same single click. Check and change starter relay same thing. Test old starter off the car and works fine, so take new starter off and put old one back on and add a new ground, still same thing. Tested power wire for resistance/continuity and still zeroed out/no breaks. Ended up putting a new power wire on it using a 1/2 welding ground wire. Thing now fires up faster than it ever has.

    You are a straight up guy, Coop. But as Jason suggested below, drive the Tahoe for a couple of weeks and make sure it is ok before you trade it. If you still want the Neon, and that guy wants the Tahoe, then make the trade under the understanding that it is his and there is not a warranty on either car for either party. What's done is done.
