    • @jamesbryce5187
      @jamesbryce5187 7 лет назад

      ArtOfDying you haven't lived yet son. I don't see what all the hype is all about this guy. There are innumerable drummers that would make him look like the juvenile he is. I guess if you're young he's someone to lok up to. And the music sucks too. If you're into metal, I guess it's OK.

    • @stickwithit
      @stickwithit  7 лет назад +26

      James Bryce not to sound rude, but I think you're wrong, there are a lot of nuances in his playing that you're not picking up on if that's you're true opinion. of course I'm biased, but if you study his playing, the musicality, pocket, use of rudiments and how well his phrasing fits the music, you would see that he is pretty much in a league of his own. I think he balances technical gospel playing and metal more than a lot of other drummers. if you disagree, that's totally cool, just trying to have a discussion about it instead of bashing for no reason.

    I truly don't understand how Luke gets DW 9000s to feel so light and responsive yet powerful. My first set of double pedals ever, Pearl P122s are still faster than my 9000s to this day no matter what level of adjustment.

    • @stickwithit
      @stickwithit  7 лет назад

      Calibur43 I'm 99% sure it has to do with technique. Drumeo has a video where they do heel toe in every type of shoe including timberland and snowboarding boots, so I would imagine if you can use the same technique with any shoe, you can use the same technique with any pedal.

    • @Calibur43
      @Calibur43 7 лет назад +1

      Yeah he also has insanely proficient foot control haha. I actually use both heel up and heel toe for different applications interchangeably. The 9000s just feel so much heavier and I have them adjusted to pretty much to match my P122s, obviously two different pedal systems and material but still they "should" feel matched at this point. I've been drumming with both for years and years. One of these days I'll find the perfect beater distance, spring tension, and pedal height settings for the 9000s lol.

      @stickwithit  7 лет назад +2

    • @nathandrums0
      @nathandrums0 7 лет назад

      +Calibur43 I use the 5000's and honestly I feel like it depends on the day. Some days they feel super light and I'm able to play soo fast then others days they're like bricks and I can't do anything. For the most part i have them feeling pretty light though!

    I don't know about you guys, but that is probably one of the most dead crowds I've seen in a long time. I'm surprised there weren't any pits forming or anything, the music definitely calls for it.

    • @mattwatson1744
      @mattwatson1744 7 лет назад +48

      Jason's music is a spectacle. His and Luke's playing commands attention and doesn't really allow for pits or moshing unless you're not interested in the technical prowess of what's being performed and would rather knock into other humans and get sweaty. Not all shows prompt pits or moshing.

    • @nathandrums0
      @nathandrums0 7 лет назад +27

      It's too technical for moshing. Definitely something I would rather and give them my attention than run around.

    • @jamesmelton5245
      @jamesmelton5245 7 лет назад +5

      Matt Watson I was interested in the playing and there was a pit in Chapel Hill like every song. the worst was actually the country twang during hos down. don't mind the pit but it was a small place real small. met both of them both cool as fuck. talked guitar shit with Jason for a while. basically talked me into buying a majesty.

    • @BIGSWXRMZ
      @BIGSWXRMZ 7 лет назад +5

      Shows the how influential a front man can be, there's no communication with the crowd to hype them up and move with them. Also the technicality of the music make it difficult to move to, you just have to sit there with your jaw on the floor

    • @jamesmelton5245
      @jamesmelton5245 7 лет назад +1

      James Lane yeah but that crowds dead I went to the show and Chapel Hill and it was banging

    im no drummer, but on a scale from 1-10 how difficult is lukes drumming on that album?

    • @stickwithit
      @stickwithit  7 лет назад +6

      I totally agree, this performance would be hard for a majority of drummers to pull off! It really made me appreciate how good Luke truly is. It's one thing to write these crazy parts since anyone can sound amazing with the help of studio magic ( a lot of bands are guilty of this) but to see him pull it off live- not only to be spot on, but to make it look easy, is another animal completely in my opinion! Michael caught a majority of what makes his playing stand out so much, and if you read music, you can pick up the transcription for Omni and Fragments here and follow along to see how insane these parts really are!

  • @IslamFalmi
    @IslamFalmi 7 лет назад +1

    I think Luke Holland is a pretty good, but I've realised that his traditional blast beats/euro blasts are quite poor. I've noticed this in the Omni playthrough on Meinl's YT channel too. For example, at 1:40, the euro blasts which are basically just alternating single strokes slowly go off-time just like in the playthrough video. It seems like he can't keep the timing or one of his hands can't keep up with the other. This can be seen at other parts when he does traditional blasts too.

    • @stickwithit
      @stickwithit  7 лет назад +3

      I see what you mean, those are definitely some of the more difficult parts to nail considering how he is actually comping Jason's lead during that part.Either way it's not distracting and serves the music well. Notice how he's sticking out each of those hits and the velocity/dynamic isn't changing like a lot of metal drummers do when blasting.

    • @iDrumLikeCrazy
      @iDrumLikeCrazy 7 лет назад

      DemiUrge those are not alternating singles. Both hands are hitting in unison each beat. Way fucking harder than singles loo

I really wish I could have fixed it, but you can make out exactly what luke is playing, so I don't think it's the end of the world. Unless it is the end of the world... sawtoothscream 1 they actually did use backing vocal tracks. You can here it leading into the breakdown section at 6:35. It just sounds quiet underneath the camera audio, as opposed to through the sound board. Its the same in fragments.

      Mitchell Roux There is an interesting discussion about that lower in the comments. I believe it's because people are watching in Awe as opposed to trying to move to the music. this is a very much enthusiast duo, with both musicians displaying so much virtuosity that looking away for a second would mean missing something technically impressive!
