2011 G37, engine light was on, car ran like crap, hooked up my OBD2 reader, had a P0106 error. Watched this video and others. Disconnected the battery before starting, removed and cleaned the two MAF sensors by the bottom clamps on each side. This added less than 5 minutes to the job. I did open and close the butterflies repeatedly with no problems later. Used a small amount of silicone grease to clean the O ring at the throttle body, put it all back together as per this vid. No errors, no engine light, no RPM issues, car runs great. I'll do this again in three years when I change the plugs. Thanks hrkhaliki, you saved me a ton of money.
I had this same code pop up and cleared it with my OBD2 reader, but still see it listed as a permanent code. The engine light has remained off all day but I followed this video and cleaned the TBs and MAF anyway. The light is still off and no codes are listed under "current" or "pending", but I still see it under permanent on the scan tool. Do you know if this code will clear on it's own if this fixed the problem?
Just a tip from my own experience. If you cleaning THB you might as well change your spark plugs,or if you changing your SP you should clean THB.Because when you do one or other you must take of THB anyway.
Thanks a lot! 2010 G37, P0106 error. Service guys asked $130 just for diagnostic, but with this video I spent $3 for cleaning liquid, $42 for a set of tools that I wanted to have for a while anyway, and an hour of my free time. :) Important note: just after a cleanup, 'Service Engine Soon' light was still on, but idle RPMs felt from usual ~700 to ~600 (by tachometer, I don't have OBD scanner). The light disappeared after I disconnected negative power cable for ~15 min.
I have an 08 Infiniti G37. I just did the cleaning today 05/15/17. I did everything he said plus disconnect the battery. I figure since now there will be more air flow I figure a hard reset will help it too. I even pushed the butterfly a tad bit to get the grim out from under and top. Everything went well until I turned it on. RPMs jumped to 2500 then slowly went down. She was a bit jumpy on RPMs at first, but nothing crazy since now it's receiving more air flow after removing the carbon build up. I Tapped the gas a bit to get the CPU to acknowledge all this air flow and kept it idle for a bit. I then Shut it down and turned it back on and now it's back to normal sitting under 1000 RPMs. Never had a check engine light or anything. Drove around a bit and she ran fine. Finally, I rev'd high after it was normal and she ran smooth on the highway. No issues on my end. I figure I add my 2 cents to help anyone out.
G37 seems to be very sensitive to carbon in the throttle body. Was having a lot of dead throttle at low RPMs with my o12 G37. Cleaned the throttle body a mass air flow sensors and everything is all back to normal. Never threw any codes.
Gonna try this. I just replaced the map sensor with a new one about two months ago. Reset and the light has been off until last week. Makes me wonder if the map sensor I threw out was good. I got the same code again P0106. G37x 2011 coupe.
When you do clean the throttle body, MAF sensors and replace the sparkplugs, you might want to either clean the pcv valve or replace it since it's in there. PCV doesn't cost that much. That's what I did with my 08G35RWD. Just my 2 cents guys.
Torque spec is 8.43lb-ft. If it's overtightened or undertightened it can cause an air leak hence you see a lot of people with super fucky idle's after they clean their throttle bodies.
I've done this to 2 of my G-sedans one was a 07 5spd auto with tech package and the other 08 6mt sport . And after cleaning my tb on both cars. I've encountered problems with my idle like high idle at 1800 or fluctuating from 1200-2000 rpm like your car has no idea where to idle. I think if u open the butterfly valve or move it more than it needs to be opened then most likely your gonna have to do that pain staking idle relearn, throttle position relearn, and idle air relearn etc. It's such a hassle, but you'll get it eventually. Some may get lucky after cleaning there tb and won't have to do it at all or some just suffer lol. Or another method I've heard of is if u disconnect the battery for more than 5mins then it should work back to normal, but most of the times it doesn't. On my 07 5at sedan. It had a high idle at 1800 after cleaning my tb. I did the whole idle relearn process along with the whole 9yards it took me 7x to finally get it and it fixed my high idle. On my 6mt sport I had the surging idle that went from 1200 to 2000. It was embarrassing cause your car sounded like it was retarded, but someone at the dealer told me it should fix itself once the computer figures out everything is out of whack since technology now a days are so complex and high tech. I just waited it out it took my car almost a month of normal use and driving for it to relearn where it needs to be idling at based on my driving habits. And I guess that's the lazy way of doing if u don't mind embarrassing yourself when ever rolling up to a red light with cars on either side hahah.
I did not have any problems after this I cleaned mine. If you take any of the wires off you may have to do a relearn on them. I'd recommend cleaning them every 30,000 miles or so.
The only side affect I had was better response and idle. I know some people say that they have to do a relearn on the throttle position but the way I did it in the video I had no problems.
Awesome video, we are going to try and change the spark plugs on my son's g37 and can do the throttle body as well...any chance of doing (or do you know any) videos for changing the plugs- any other things to know... torque specs, etc?
Great video ! Thanks ! I wonder - is it worthy to clean only outer side of the TB without unbolting it ? Does it make any sense ? I do not have any issues and low mileage on it so just like little maintenance or something . What would you suggest ? Thanks in advance!
If after you clean the throttle body and your having idle issue; you need to disconnect the battery for 5 minute for the computer to relearn. Reconnect battery idle will be back to normal
After I cleaned the TB I had unstable RPM in Idle mode, I did disconnected the battery yesterday in order to reset the ESE and it works but the RPM was still higher than normal which was around 1800. tried relearn procedures couple times but couldn't get it to normal as before. would you help plz if you have any information, thanks
Good job, I think I can do this myself!!!....changed a map sensor and mass flows today with help from another video, took'er for a nice fast ride down a back road, floated!!!
I agree..."do not take off any of harness of electrical connectors from the throttle body...otherwise you need to do throttle relearn..."...but, I think that one is easy...it is just "make sure pedal is fully released....turn it ON but not turning on the car...then turning it OFF for 10 seconds...' it would be the IDLE relearn procedure more difficult to do if the throttle body is replaced...please refer to mechanics manual....
Yea, tons of people complaining about this process causing problems with idle after the cleaning. Many speculate that it is the movement of the throttle body butterfly valve. Perhaps it is user error? Not replacing MAF correctly or not tightening down throttle body bolts properly. Or perhaps the sensors which read the exact position of butterfly at shut down and after cleaning the slight variation causes problems and a need for reset. Batter disconnect or not disconnect is another variable...if its connected does this allow the sensors to still read the position of the butterfly and adjust acordingly while a complete battery disconnect does not...?? Unsure this video does not mention the disconnection of battery and he did not push on butterfly valve...either.
+Ed B Hey I know there is a lot of speculation about this. I did it this way and had no problems what so ever, you just got to be gentle. I did not disconnect the battery but I did move the butterfly, I actually opened it all the way to clean everything.
It’s simple to do, I went to the dealership because I have a coupe and it’s different from the sedans. (I only found videos on the sedans ) they showed me where the bolt is and I went home and did it.
why do you need to clean it? it is only moving the butterfly for increased air flow during throttle operation...... does it stick when it is dirty?? dealer said i have an idle issue and need to replace them.... 3500 dollars they quoted. is that crazy or what! I call rip-off on that quote
I had an 08 Journey Sedan that kept throwing itself into limp mode. I had a local shop I trust replace one of the throttle body modules. It ended up being less than $400. A few months later I had the same problem. The shop said they should have replaced both the first time. He replaced both together and only charged me the cost of the second part. I had no issues after that. I think the car had around 110K when the issue started happening.
I’m having issues with my g37 maintain the rpm when I turn it on, like it will turn on the turns back off, I bought it from a guy that had it out all the time and it was very dirty and dusty on the inside.could this solve my problem
It could but then again there could be other issues. Bad fuel can cause that, also old fuel filters. Sometimes it could even be electrical issues. This is a good place to start out, if it doesnt fix the problem try something else.
Thanks for this man. I appreciate it. When you cleaned them, did you touch the butterfly at all? Like push on it? I heard if you push the butterfly you'll have to do a relearn process.
+Tyler Ehrhardt thats not true, i pushed the butterfly open and cleaned it all around and no problems. the very first time i did my TB was extremely dirty so once cleaned it would idle very high and the check engine light came on for unusual idle. but after like a day the idle went back to normal and the light went away
Disconnect battery, don't remove any wires from the throttle bodies.. You can touch the plate all you want, but still be gentle with it. You got any issues just ask man, you shouldn't though. It's easy stuff. And if need be, there is a throttle relearn.. Or IAC idle air control relearn you can look up. That's what's thrown off idle something were to happen.. But like I said, be gentle
Tyler Ehrhardt Gonna do this tomorrow, just gonna disconnect the battery shouldn’t have any idle problems then after right? And if I do, I just have to do the procedure? Think I can find it on google incase my idle gets messed up
What I don't understand is...when disconnecting the battery...why is that not the same as disconnecting the "harness of the electric throttle control actuator (throttle body)"...and needing to relearn the system...apparently not...but, why is it not the same thing...I am confused...

I drove in the car over 70 Miles after cleaning the TB and still getting same problem, would you please help if you have any Tip or advice you would share. thanks and will be waiting your response
Dump the Blow-By to the atmosphere. Install new TB gaskets if ur over 30k miles or 4 years old....(16175-JK21A)K&N crank case part #: 62-1340 or Vibrant Performance part #: 2166. TorQ on those allen bolts is 75 INCH/LBs
I have an 08 g35 sedan i swapped it for a 350z hr engine same engine just less miles and it turns on but doesnt let me gas it it only runs when i have it on drive by itself the normal slow speed if i press the gas it doesnt go. I called a electrical mechanic he told me one throttle body has more voltage then the other also the slip and vdc light stay on. Does this have to do anything with it ? Or is it the throttle position sensor? Any help would be appreciated thank you.
disconnect the MAF take them out hold it from the top shake the MAF can then spry on all the electrical contacts about 15-20 second, do not shake for drying let it sit 15 minutes before you put them back, just did mine on 2009 G37 gain more power
he's an Idea have someone in the car with key on engine off and have them floor the gas, this should put you're Nissan in flood model opening the throttle just enough to clean them well, make sure you have you MAF connected as that will throw a code....you're all welcome.....Subie fanboy.... over and out...
Don't be a beeoch. Just open the valves, but make sure you don't disconnect your battery. Just do an ecu reset (without pulling the negative) and do a relearn for idle air.

P0106 relates to the MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor not the MAF sensors. P0101 is the code for the MAF sensors.

Any improvements to the MPG?
I can't say so since I have a heavy foot lol
I did when my driving is normal, mine needed it badly
waterudoing I did this to my 2008 ex35 at 160k miles. I went from 9 mpg city to 20. My highway went from 14 mpg to 25. I’d say it helped a little bit.
Thanks for the video. I did mine and now the car is idling around 2200rpm. Anyone encounter that problem?
Did you idle go back to normal on its own or did you have to do something to get it back to normal?
I have an 08 g35 sedan i swapped it for a 350z hr engine same engine just less miles and it turns on but doesnt let me gas it it only runs when i have it on drive by itself the normal slow speed if i press the gas it doesnt go. I called a electrical mechanic he told me one throttle body has more voltage then the other also the slip and vdc light stay on. Does this have to do anything with it ? Or is it the throttle position sensor? Any help would be appreciated thank you.
how do you clean maf
disconnect the MAF take them out hold it from the top shake the MAF can then spry on all the electrical contacts about 15-20 second, do not shake for drying let it sit 15 minutes before you put them back, just did mine on 2009 G37 gain more power
I used CRC mass air flow sensor cleaner
@@syedhussain3810 cool light came off passed emissions!
he's an Idea have someone in the car with key on engine off and have them floor the gas, this should put you're Nissan in flood model opening the throttle just enough to clean them well, make sure you have you MAF connected as that will throw a code....you're all welcome.....Subie fanboy.... over and out...
Don't be a beeoch. Just open the valves, but make sure you don't disconnect your battery. Just do an ecu reset (without pulling the negative) and do a relearn for idle air.
I want to no how reliable this engine is g37?
Ifeanyi Done very reliable and quick to
