- Well my friend from down under has a problem is the Model T Ford a Stick or Automatic. Thats what his License branch wants to know. Because the have a test and driver's license for each one. Bear in mind this is the country that has Road Trains a Football field long. (I hope you need a special license for that) Let's see if we can help him prove what license he needs.

I learned to drive my T by driving out of my driveway into traffic... the incentive to not be killed flattened the learning curve. Great show!
I'm with you : automatic. I tell people the Model T is really easy to drive, just completely different.
My vote is automatic. No feathering of a clutch, no gear shifting lever. I believe the T was designed to get around the early, very difficult sliding gear mechanisms. As said below, Henry knew what he was doing and what would be easiest.
I am with you Bruce. A Model T is an automatic. Great video as usual.
Thx Dana.
I always call it a Manually controlled automatic.
Great video Bruce. I'll vote for manual because the driver is making the gear change decisions. Ive been driving my T all day at Beamish Living History Museum and will put a video up when it's edited.
Thx. The comments are leaning towards an Automatic with
Involvement 😂😂
Yes it required involvement 😂😂
Henry Ford knew what he was doing
Amen brother.
👍👌
Thx for watching. 😎
Tell Our buddy Doug it's an automatic.
Thanks Bruce.
He is at his daughters for the week have not heard from him yet.
Great Video! So was the term Sun gear used back then? I feel like Americans are the reasons so many automatics exist today.
Hi Jerry. I see you pu are pumping out vids again. Good to here from you. I’m not familiar with sun gear back in the day
Sun gear 1/2 part of the planetary gear sets in all automatic transmissions! Wasn’t sure if they used that term initially upon release of that. Learned it at WyoTech but it’s been a while lol 😂
I agree with Tony Miller here. Manually operated automatic. Don't guys use turbo 400 clutch discs in these? Not an authority on T's, but I have heard the kevlar bands can cause the drums to crack. Any truth to this? Always enjoy your videos.
The turbo 400 disc aren’t the greatest. I’ve never had an issue with Kevlar bands. Those that are having problems are overheating the drums. By trying to Drive a T like a modern car.
Thx
I have always called mine semi automatic . Has the bands of an automatic but no valve body . But then again I do have an auxiliary so I have a shifter . Mine is sort of steampunk . Model t transmission with an auxiliary behind that going into a ruckstell rear axle . 12 forward and 6 reverse 😅
Yours has been slightly modified with period parts. Soooo yours is different 😂😎
Slightly , but it will go up a mountain at 35 mph 😂 has a gear for anywhere it goes .
If the early Civic Hondamatic is an Automatic, so is the T.
Just on the Auto Vs. Manual licence in Australia, it is for young drivers. if you learn in an Auto, you can't drive a manual until you have completed your provisional licence (around 3 years I think)..
Although I agree that the T is an Automatic, I also think that if a young driver cannot drive a modern manual transmission, and got their licence in a modern automatic, they probably don't have the right to drive a T, as it is far more complicated than a modern manual car.
If I recall correctly, one can sit a test to get a manual endorsement on ones licence after gaining it in an automatic.
Thx. I think Doug is trying to clarify which Lic his grand daughter needs. Gday
I’m not sure what part of Australia he is from but in South Australia where I’m from you don’t need two licenses, however if you do you license test in an Auto that is all you are allowed to drive. If you do your test in a manual (stick) you can drive both auto and manual on the same license.
He is in QLS. I think he was trying to clarify which Lic his granddaughters should apply for. I’m in USA. So this is new to me. Thought it e would make a good video.
@@KlepsGarage it certainly did make a good video. I love your cars. I own a 1920 dodge brothers, 1921 Model T Ford and a 1929 Chevrolet
Thanks for watching. I was in your country in 2018. Love it. Need to come back and do vids down under Gday.
@@KlepsGarage look me up if you do. I would be happy to show you my toys
Stralia is a big country. U close to Melbourne?
The model t is the first automatic
Automatic.
Yes auto with involvement. Thx for watching
Not an automatic. Sorry Doug. Automatic you do not change gearing. You get it started and then you only need brake and gas...................Non automatic is manual, stick, shift, whatever. When driving you have to change from slow, to slower, or to neutral, so you are essence changing your gearing with your feet. You are using your feet instead of your hands. Sort of like an organ player that uses their hands on the upper keyboard, and feet on the lower keyboard. They can play the organ with just their feet.....................Learn to drive a T. Take your driver test in a T. Get the dual license from the start.
Ok yeah what he said. Thx Dave.
