The Three Stooges Meet Hercules

- The Three Stooges work at Dimsel’s Drug Store where they befriend Schuyler Davis, the owner of the shop next door, who is attempting to build a time machine. With the boys “help,” the time machine transports the boys, Schuyler and his girlfriend Diane back in time to ancient Greece during the reign of the lecherous King Oedious, a distant ancestor of Dimsel. Odius has a yearning for Diane, and banishes Schuyler and the boys into servitude at sea. After a shipwreck, The Three Stooges and Schuyler escape. In the Gladiator arena, they bill Schuyler as Hercules. The real Hercules gets wind of their game and confronts them, but the Stooges convince Hercules to help them rescue Diane and return the rightful king to the throne.

R.I.P. Moe, Larry, Curly, Shemp, Joe, and Curly-Joe. We love U.
I saw the Three Stooges in person when they were promoting this movie at the Paramount Theatre in San Francisco, they came out on the left side of the stage did a short skit and told the kids to enjoy the movie !
No way... Get out of town

I was there with my Grand Parents. I was 8 years old so the year must of been 1962. I remember the line was huge and around the block to get into the theater. To see the Three Stooges in person was such a treat for a young kid. I’m 69 years old and still have the memory.

A.I. at it's best. RUclips lists this movie under "History". The Stooges are laughing their asses off somewhere!
when i was a child i would dream of an invention that would let me watch whatever i wanted whenever. this was on my list. i was 10 and that was in 68. at 64 i have my tablet, and i have most of what i wanted in one format or another. thanx for one more thing on my list
Yep, same wish here, too. But now with Netflix, Vudu, Amazon Prime, Disney+, Hulu, Tubi, and others at my fingertips, I find it strange that there's nothing interesting to watch. I spend more time 'flipping the channels' then actually watching anything. Fortunately, there's Wikipedia which neatly summarizes most movies out there.
I had roughly the same dream .... Clearly we both saw the future and were impatient for it to arrive ... But it arrived!

When I was a kid, I loved the movies with Ancient Greece. I also loved the Stooges. I used to watch this movie at least once a month. It is the best of the DeRita generation, with "Daze" a close second. You got The Three Stooges taking on monsters and thugs of the Ancient World.....I *love* this movie. And I thank you for putting it where it belongs......in public domain.

Norman Maurer, the producer of this movie, should be a revered name among all fans of the Three Stooges. Among other things, he married Moe Howard's daughter, Joan, but was also one of the most persistent people in promoting everything "Stooge." From comic books to movies to merchandise to personal appearances, Mr. Maurer was instrumental in making sure the Howard name never completely faded from show business limelight, ensuring that Moe and Larry had an income at a time when, as they reached older age, their talents might have been forgotten or overlooked.
The Howard Brothers were born and raised in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. In the 1920s they appeared in local vaudeville theaters in there and along Broadway in Brooklyn. There is a Broadway there from what was the Broadway Ferry alongside the Williamsburg Bridge and under the former Brooklyn Elevated train line until East New York at Alabama Ave. East New York is another neighborhood in Brooklyn. They made their first movie in 1930. Whether they were ever in Times Square in a play, I don't know.

Fred call it's me it's a 0912 they saw me in something ?
This is NOT the stooges. this is adhering to contractual obligation with recycled gags and sounds from the 30's. It was their reaction to Curley that made them great.
Taking a shit while reading. Gd lk!
The Stooges made this and other movies because they didn't own the shorts which were released to TV in the late 1950s and were making lots of money for everyone except them! So they capitalized on their own new found popularity, and well they should.
You can't watch a comedy today and not see something inspired by the stooges they will always be a part of comedy history and future. I loved this movie and when I seen Hal Smith (Otis from Andy Griffith show) he had me cracking up.the stooges will always have a place in my heart and memories.

I am from India. The Three Stooges show was aired two times a day in 1995 on then newly launched Sony Television channel. I must say I am lucky to watch these greatest entertainers of all times.
I read about them online about thier lives. Comments here provide information about their off screen lives. Thanks you so much and R.I.P Three Stooges.
Do they have a decent following in India?
@@TylerJC1212 In 1995 when it was not so long time that foreign satellite channels slipped into Indian entertainment. During those times Sony entertainment network had their only one channel called Sony TV. Many American shows were dubbed into Hindi and aired on this channel. 'The Three Stooges' was one of them. So people from that era will never forget three stooges and I am one of them. It was aired two times a day. 8.30 AM and 5.30PM.
Then there are guys like me who share RUclips videos to friends and they also like them. I know atleast few guys of today's generation who are fan of this comedy trio.
So basically not decent but there exist a fan following in India for them.
@@TylerJC1212Back in 1995, those who watched them on TV in India still enjoy thier shows and appreciate thier talent. I share them to my friends and sometimes introduce them to few folks of today's generation. I am in my mid 40s and had my academic education in English language so I enjoy thier shows more than average Indian.
Not so large size of followers but there is tiny community of followers for sure. :)
Curly-Joe: TIMBER!
I was seven years old when this movie was released in the theaters. My mom took us to see it at a local theater in Garden Grove California along with my two siblings. Mom laughed through the whole feature. She was especially amused by the "calm-down pills". I didn't laugh through much of it but when Moe told Curly, who had caught a bomb from a Messerschmidt , "Hey, you guys have been foolin' around with that for 25 years! Get rid of it!" I laughed hysterically.
I love the music and the dancing from the Fortys. They had perfect timing.
I too saw it at a theater and liked it, but couldn't figure out what happened to Curley.
@@billstretch9187 Curley had a stroke.
@@nightrunner1456 Yeah! I found that out later, At the time I saw the movie at the theater, I found the guy that took his place to be disappointing---it is still a very good movie!
@@billstretch9187 Curley had natural talent and skills, that 7-year-old could respect.
The shepherd giving directions was hilarious.
That would be their longtime costar Emil Sitka who first appeared in their 1946 short Half Wits Holiday where Curly suffered his stroke on set before the pie fight. Emil Sitka appeared in many of their shorts as a butler or Professor in Outer Space Jitters and live action segments in The New Three Stooges from 1965-1966. He was known as the fourth Stooge due his many appearances in the trio's shorts live action films and his role as Stooge to stooges earned him that nickname. His most famous role was as The Justice Of The Peace Mr Benton in Brideless Groom with Shemp "Hold Hands You Lover Birds". He passed away in 1998 with his gravestone reading the famous Loverbirds line and "He danced all the way"
@@jonathanbennaman6753 Emil was very talented, I thought he was awesome. Another favorite actor was the man who played a cook and house boy in several episodes. "This place sure has gone crazy", as the Stooges flood the basement with water as so-called plumbers.

@39:42 The head nod of approval that does is taken from the greatest stooge of em all.....SHEMP!!! And because they are brothers, Moe even looks like SHEMP when he does the head nod of approval.
I saw this film as a kid in theater with a marathon of 30 cartoons. The old Piccadilly theater in Chicagos Hyde Park neighborhood ! The scene where the nerdy guy in glasses gets muscle bound from slave ship rowing had me in stitches !
Wish we could've gotten these features back in their prime.
Curly Joe says to the two headed cyclops, Your father's got 2 moustaches. Curly Joe throws the calm down pills to moe who is being held in the hand by the two headed cyclops. Then the whole calm down pill bottle goes right into the two headed cyclops mouth. Hilarious 😂. Great script.
The director, Norman Maurer, was a comic book artist. He drew stories for the Daredevil (no, not that Daredevil) comics in the 1940s. Being a fan of the choice: "E: None of the Above", I picked that comic as one of the titles from the era to collect. I met Maurer at a small LA comic book convention in 1986 and had him sign a small stack of Daredevils.
Maurer was an average artist in the 40s. At some point he shared a studio business with Joe Kubert, and in 1953 the two created the first 3D comic book, among other things. Kubert is one of the gods of comic book art. In the Seventies he founded a school that would produce many well known artists.
Later I read that Maurer and his wife (Moe's daughter) were making money from 3 Stooges merchandise, but not sharing it with the other kids. In the late Eighties or early Nineties, the other kids sued them to get a piece of the action.

You know, I still think this is the Three Stooges' best theatrical movie. Sure, it has Joe DeRita, whom I've never been much of a fan of, but the Stooges are having a lot of fun, and that comes across.
When the Stooges & Skyler encounter the sheep herder (the wonderful Emil Sitka) they are on location outdoors by a pond. This is the same exact area they walk along when they land on Venus in "Have Rocket---Will Travel."
By the time this movie was made in 1961, the Stooges were already showing their ages. They were now Senior Citizens.
But they were still real troupers making those dangerous stunts.
The Three Stooges on RUclips is THE BEST place to tell misogynistic jokes! Confucius say: Woman who fry airpwane upside-down have harry crackup.
This is the widely best-known movie with The Three Stooges. Even Moe Howard (RIP) said in an interview during the last few years of his life that he enjoyed doing the film, with the slave ship scenes being his favorite due to the special effects.

I remember running out of the theatre screaming in terror when the cyclops appeared. I might’ve been 6 or 7. We lived on an army base, I went to the theatre on the base to see this by myself. This was not long after Steve Reeves starred in his two Hercules flix. The early Stooges liked to parody the latest big screen releases, and this movie continues in that stooge tradition.

As silly as the Stooges movies were, they are a fun part of my childhood memories! I was about 4 or 5 when this one came out.
The dance scene in the ship is so cute and funny 😄
They had not eaten in three thousand years.
Columbia really screwed them in many ways. For decades they'd tell the Stooges that their shorts weren't that popular, but tell them that they would renew their contract because they felt sorry for them. Every year they did that. The Stooges shorts were the most popular thing the studio had. If a theater didn't want to show the studio's latest bad movie, the studio would tell them, "Take the movie, or you aren't getting the Stooges' short." Theaters needed the Stooges shorts to bring the kids in; they'd never turn them down. The stooges were so popular that Columbia continued making shorts after other studios had stopped. The other studios didn't have the Stooges.
I love the three stooges. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

The way Columbia abused actors back then was so disgusting, like what they did to “Curly” even when he was in ill health they forced him to come back and keep making movies which most likely ended his life even more early than it happened.
