      @Jim Carrey I am not quite sure I understand your question. Do you have problem with pronunciation of some sounds? Is it all the time or under certain conditions? Is it only at the end of words or in other word positions, like in the middle or at the beginning? Have you had this problem always or is this something that is only recent?

    Thank you for all this wonderful information. I love singing but gradually my voice has deteriorated following a long period of laryngitis 5/6 years ago (singing in 2 choirs) then a couple of years ago a viral infection upper respiratory. I now understand that I have some very bad singing techniques and think I need to begin again!! There is definitely tension and now anxiety associated with reduced ability. I will start using the massage and the daily exercises and hope I can recover. Thank you

    Been on a 3+ year saga of treatments to get my voice back. At least 7 Doctors of all types including ENTs. Cardiologist, Gastro, Pulmonologist, Allergist, Primary care. Treated 5X with Steroids and Antibiotics. Would improve then regress. Treated for reflux and allergies. No improvement. New ENT Found a long term sinus infection and had major sinus surgery and fixed deviated septum June 2021. Marginal improvement. Finally I had swelling on Right cheek around Christmas 21. Misdiagnosed as muscle spasm. Eventually massive pain caused the ENT to admit to hospital and order CATscan and they found a wisdom tooth infection that had traveled up to my cheek to present as a lump. More powerful antibiotics for 6 weeks. Had the tooth out and my voice seems to be on the mend. The cause was a long term chronic tooth infection leaking into surrounding tissues and nerves nearby that would cause inflammation, spasms and loss of control anytime the voice would start to warm up and be used. Now my voice seems to respond and be more pliable and not straining when I talk. I have developed lots of bad habits trying to press and overcome but it seems to be on the mend. It pains me to tell you how much this has all cost me in time and $.
    I will keep on with the straw exercises and other vocal practices and see what happens.

I could not utter a sentence without feeling pain. I was so sad at that time. Later i took medication but the tightness in my neck and the severe pain when i was swallowing was driving me mad. Later i figure it out that i must have developed MTD. Massage to the neck myscles made all the difference to me. The first time i did it, all outer skin of my neck became deep red, which means that they were extremely tight

    I have this condition and my profession deals with talking for almost 6 hours straight a day. Sometimes my voice just cuts out. I've gone through vocal therapy two previous times to restore my voice. This last week I am finding my voice sounds hoarse in the morning and cuts out from time to time. The weird thing about MDT for me, is singing within one octave is easy and my voice doesn't cut out then.

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  Год назад

      It is common for people to report that singing produces clearer voice than speaking. Usually, that stems from better "support" or body engagement that helps the little muscles in the throat not overwork. If your voice is worst in the morning, is there a routine you can establish that would help improve vocal function?

    I've suffered with my voice for 22 years now, since I was 11 and my voice changed. I've had vocal therapy and vocal coaching. This had helped a little but I still have a lot of issues. I've had chiropractic and massage therapy also. I eat well, drink only water and dont drink or smoke. My natural speaking voice is fairly low, but if I go too low my voice cracks. If I go high I generally tighten up and cant produce any sound at all. Feels like I'm being strangled and every now and then, a weak high pitched noise will leak out. I have had extremely rare days maybe 10 over 22 years where I've had full access to my voice, approximately 5 octaves. My goal is to sing, I used to sing as a child and had a strong well balanced voice. I have noticed, on the odd occasion when I've had a cold or sinus infection, my voice is free and I can access all of it with ease. As soon as I get well I'm back to 'normal' so frustrating. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

      If you are having issues just with your singing voice, then find a singing voice specialist who can help you release tension when singing. If you are also having difficulties in your speaking voice, find a voice therapist (speech-language pathologist, SLT or whatever they are called in your country) and have voice therapy to start dealing with MTD. Voice therapy is the first approach when it comes to MTD.

      Dealing with pain is not easy. However, I would be careful with self-medicating because some of the drugs may affect your voice too. Talk to your doctor about drugs. As other options, have you had voice therapy? Learning how to use your voice without constriction can avoid creating pain all together. Ask the doctor who diagnosed you, they should have contact for voice therapists.

    My problem is UNIQUE, I suppose. For about 3 years now, whenever I sing or talk continuously for sometime, I always get pain on the left side of my neck (SCM muscle, I think) and the pain radiates into my ear. I visited many ENT doctors.. They say that I don't have any abnormality. Then, I went to Ortho doctors. My MRI result showed that I have spondylosis. I am getting treated by a physiotherapist for
    the neck pain. But the pain has not subsided. The problem is the pain is not continuous.. once I get the pain it stays for few hours or continues for few days.. then everything comes down to normalcy.. So many doctors, So many tests.. NO one is able to diagnose my problem.
    Katarina, are you getting any idea on what I am going through? Thanks in advance

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  4 года назад +1

      The length of treatment is very individual. It depends on many factors. Regarding tension while breathing, it is good that you recognize tension. Find the deepest breath you can without creating tension. For example, breathe in as you would normally do and assess tension. If there is not tension, breathe in a little bit more deeply and assess tension again. If still no tension, then breathe in even more deeply. Do it in a very small steps. Once you start feeling tension, move your body, wiggle it, massage the parts of the body where you feel the tension, or try the breathing exercise while walking or moving around.

    • @jamesparihar7440
      @jamesparihar7440 4 года назад +1

      Also what type of breathing would you suggest. I have found belly breathing creates more tension and voice because hoarse and uncontrollable . Is it possible that the larynx could shift to either sides(in my case i feel its more on right side) which is why the breathing could have got effected. I am currently having session with a trained vocal teacher and currently working on vocalizing done from diaphragm. My larynx muscle have got less rigid from these vocal function excercises. Do you think i should also go to a speech therapist along side or stick with her.

  • @mark-147

    I've had something strange happen to my voice over the past 4 years and it's slowly getting worse. My voice is fine when I wake up, but as the morning progresses it gets weak and people struggle to hear me. It takes quite some effort to generate normal volume and the result is raspy. It gets worse faster if I don't speak. I generally don't speak much anyway. One other symptom when it's bad is that my body wants to breathe in big gulps of air so that makes me wonder if it's a breathing issue. I've tried various breathing techniques which seem to give some relief but 30 minutes later the voice is bad again. Some days are better than others but I haven't found a pattern.
    I don't think it's acid reflux because my voice gets better if I lie down.
    I wondered if it could be something with the diaphragm but I don't know how to test this theory.
    I've seen a couple of ENT doctors who haven't been able to diagnose the problem. No laryngologists or voice specialists in my area. The posture theory looks plausible since I work a lot on my laptop in probably a poor position.
    Does any of this sound familiar? I'm getting desperate because my social life is non existent because of this.

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  Год назад +1

      I am sorry to hear that you are dealing with a vocal issue and you cannot find a cause or solution. One good thing is that ENTs did not see any structural changes on the vocal folds. But it may mean that you may have a functional voice problem, which is more challenging to uncover or diagnose. I would suggest that you find a specialized voice clinic (a place where they only see people with voice problems). In voice clinics, doctors and voice therapists are better equipped to recognize voice problems and offer help.

    I have muscle tension dysphonia for 8 years. I've been too so many speech pathologists but the exercises they give me hurt immediately and seriously no one is able to help me. There's one speech pathologists who says my MTD is because of chronic stress. That makes sense cause before those 8 years ago I was already in extreme chronic stress for 7 years. The stress is a couple of months gone now but speaking/voicing still hurts immediately. What should I do know? Just wait until it recovers out of itself? Or should I do something else? I really dont wanna talk anymore because it hurts immediately.

    I have pain when talking I don't speak much now I always stay silent just because my throat hurt i am experiencing this problem since 2018 Feb I suffered from anxiety in 2017-2019 in that period I lost my voice. I can't speak much now I don't know if it's mtd or what. I take antiallergic medicine to deal with this pain. Where I live in my country ent are not good standard they don't understand what I say they just tell me to don't talk at all. That's heart breaking

      I am so sorry to hear that. It is heart breaking just to read those lines. But I am not able to tell you if you have MTD or not. I wish I could help but without knowing the cause of your problem, I am not able.

    I'm a man. I used to reject my process of puberty and I used to talk like a child because I was frightened of being an adult, not to mention my problems of anxiety.Now I've been forcing myself to sound like a man, but it has been kinda frustrating... What would you recommend me? Please and thank you!

      Hi Robert, not sure if it helps to know that you are not alone with this problem. It's not common but you are definitely not alone. I strongly suggest that you speak to a voice specialist and start a trial voice therapy that is usually very successful after a few sessions. I wish you all the best.

    Does Botox help with MTD

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  Год назад

      Some people with MTD get Botox when everything else fails or when their MTD is secondary to neurological problems or for other complicating reasons.
