    What is muscle tension dysphonia and what muscle tension dysphonia exercises are the best? There are many different exercises or approaches to muscle tension dysphonia treatment but there are three areas or skills that I address with all of my clients. It does not matter if your throat feels strained when talking, you experience muscle tension dysphonia pain when speaking, or have other dysphonia symptoms of an MTD voice disorder, these are three areas that require your attention. MTD voice therapy or coaching should include these types of MTD voice exercises.

    I have had MTD for 10 years and just haven’t been able to shake it. I am an opera singer. I did smoke marijuana for this time and basically just gave up on my voice and continued smoking. I finally saw an opera last year and decided I needed to stop and just work on my voice. Fast forward a year later and some days I can see great progress but then it hits again and voice gets jumpy and I’m straining for notes I wasn’t days before. It’s starting to depress me and I just do t know how to get out of this. Having this for ten years has just been so hard on me and I don’t know what to do. Just don’t know if because I’ve had it so long I just need to give it a little more time. Mine is definitely mental at this point because I’ve had my cords looked at and there’s nothing wrong with them. So frustrating….

      I am very sorry to hear that you have not found a long-lasting solution for your muscle tension related voice issue. I don't think that waiting for it to pass will do any good. As you can see, over time, the problem can get more complicated with some additional mental components to the problem (which can worsen or maintain the physical tension). Here is a link to a blueprint of all the activities and approaches that I use with my clients. Maybe you can find something there that you have not tried yet.       @@healthyvoicetips thank you very much. I finally started doing some of the exercises from your page and I can tell a difference. I just need to be patient and stay consistent and I believe I can get back to my old self. Thank you so much!

    Hi Katarina, thank you for your videos. I haven’t been diagnosed with MTD yet, I’ve been told acid reflux and am certain it is not that as have tried everything. Dull pain all day everyday like I’m being strangled. I was wondering if you have heard of MTD whilst still have full vocal access. I can sing normally but it just hurts and hasn’t stopped hurting for a year.

      Hi Taylor, I am sorry to hear that you are dealing with vocal pain. Yes, it is very common to have pain as the only symptom while having access to a fully functional voice. Here is a link to a resource that may be helpful: www.vocalfreedomsystem.com/pain Understanding how pain works and why you feel what you feel is important in getting rid of it. Of course, also have your voice checked by a laryngologist. Knowing that everything is good at the level of the vocal folds will also help eliminate the pain you are feeling.

      Same here. I'm going on 3 years post polyp surgery and still struggling. I think I'm onto something with the MTD thing. Seems like i got used to talking around my issues

      My whole channel is made for people who experience tension when using their voice. I have more than 100 videos on this channel so I recommend that you watch some of them because I also talk about vocal pain. Pain is a complex phenomenon and it requires more than just simple vocal exercises.

    Pls tell approx how long it take time to recover MTD if i do voice care properly and doing vocal cord therapy and all vocal therapy .....pls must tell

      There is no one single answer to this question, every person is different. It depends on many different factors how long it will take. But it is not a quick fix. It is a process and it takes time. But it is absolutely possible to re-train your voice to speak without tension.

      There are many but examples are traps, pecs, postural muscles, quadratus lumborum, etc.

      Thank you doctor, just one simple advice of yours turned out to be a solution for my voice issues. I figured out that I was not anchoring my voice with my body or head muscles, rather I was just trying to use the larynx as a vocal instrument which led to quick voice fatigue.
