"Would Wisdom be Intelligence?" Of course not. Wisdom doesn't help you be a Wizard, while Intelligence doesn't help you be a Cleric or Druid. And by dismissing Red and Green philosophies for Charisma and Wisdom as "alternative intelligence" you reinforce that Blue-centric viewpoint.
I think my Gruul+ personality is shown in my more dominant intelligence styles as well, which I believe to be existential and interpersonal knowledge. I am really high in linguistic knowledge as well, but that might be accounted for the demands of schooling that pushed that intelligence higher than others

When I was attending college they taught us that the theory doesn’t hold water and is seen more as a gimmick than a legit theory explaining inteligence. I'd count black as the "smartest" color generally. It's a low cunning ofc but black understands most subjects in a way while the others only beat them at a specific form. Red knows emotions, green knows nature, blue knows fact, & white knows spiritual things but black understands all of them enough to use them.
There's two levels to that: no consciousness at all in the pawns, and well mastered consciousness in all the higher demons and vampires and such. For every one high intelligence entity in black, you have thousands with no intelligence beyond the will to serve. Ego is an intriguing tool.

my huge issue with this assessment of intellect is that it does allow for other kinds of intellect to shine, but it lets a ton of idiots associate themselves with intelligence. i can't even count on my hands how many times i have seen people who love to tout their emotional intelligence but in reality are absolute morons, both in the traditional and emotional sense, but because EI is highly amorphous and not measurable, they can just think they are and you're rude to go against it. that's why i believe in merit based intelligence. if you can do X and do it good, you're smart. X can be many things, but its all reliant on capacity, not just saying meaningless words and believing in things not evident
I agree with the message that our world doesn't take the full spectrum of mental skills seriously. But at the same time, I find the attempt to shoehorn the full spectrum of mental skills under the term "intelligence" is the wrong approach to the problem. Each of these skill categories already has perfectly good terminology we can use to talk about and appreciate them. I think the very attempt to create new lingo promoting "intelligence" to an umbrella term falls to the very trap we're trying to avoid here.

I believe blue values intelligence in all its forms for its own sake, and the other colors value it for the support it brings to their other values. Black likes intelligence because it's a great tool for gaining power. Red likes it because understanding stimulates passion. Green likes it because it helps us find our way within our world. White likes it because it can help make order from seeming chaos. Blue likes it, period.
This is fascinating! It really puts into perspective how the other Colours may think, and therefore how they may interpret and interact with each other and their environments. I’m definitely White/Black as it relates here, with a little Blue. The Intrapersonal-Linguistic of Black and the Interpersonal-Logical of White and its overlap with Blue are very relevant and relatable to me. What I find fascinating is that I can see all of these types of intelligence present in myself, and I suspect that may be true for others as well. I find it truly remarkable how the system of the Colour Pie can be as simple or as complex as how one perceives it to be; just like people! Remarkable Video! Masterfully done! I am definitely a black/red individual. I have very good introspective and linguistic aptitudes, and my preferred colors in terms of building and playing decks are also black and red!
Blue is so smart that Wizards collectively is unable to design its cards properly. Let us remember that terms and theories are merely constructed by big brains to articulate their observations of an infinitely more complex underlying reality. They do not and never have shaped said reality and trying to pretend they do is one big reason every human gets something catastrophically wrong eventually.
Blue reminds me alot of engineers, anybody who has had the pleasure of dealing with them know that they may be educated and qualified but they can also be dumber than a pile of bricks at the same time. Being educated doesnt equate to being smart and intelligent
I think blue would take issue with the standard view of intelligence. If blue posits that everyone is a blank slate to begin with, why would it believe intelligence is a trait you either were born with or weren't?
Well, if we use the analogy that every person starts as a piece of blank paper, papers have different traits. There's paper that's easy to write on and there's paper that's hard to write on. There're also bigger pieces of paper and smaller pieces of paper.
I allways saw Blue as the color of Logic, Green the color of Wisdom, and Red the color of Emotion (which is a type of inteligence), White and Black are more flexible, and adapt their way of thinking to their goals and situation.
Based on what you’ve said, each color represents different approaches to understanding. I think that white understands truth by seeking out sources of authority while black acquires it through individual mastery and accomplishment. Do you think that sounds about right?
First of all, amazing video. Very interesting topic very well delievered. But something that has been stuck on my head was how incredible the art of magic is. So many images of the secret lair version of cards that, when filling a big screen, you get to see so many amazing details you wouldn't see on the card.
As I grew as a person and found my niche in society, my favored colors in Magic also evolved with me. Initially, I liked the dark and brooding aesthetics of Blue/Black. Dimir fascinated me, and the deep implications within. I was also miserable at this time in my life. Then I started moving away from Black, started taking a liking to white. I continued to shift through many colors until now I am drawn to Gruul and Simic, with splashes of white. Landing where I am at now, I found a career path that suits my strengths, and this model you suggested fits my strengths and color choices exactly. :)
When I first started playing mtg way back in 2004, blue was my favorite color by far. Then slowly, over the years it became my least favorite. Interesting huh?
I always have thought that in mtg intelligence has a slice in each color. Blue is just the one that uses logic the most and some types of intelligence are represented as a combination of colors.
I just wanna point out that blue is literally mind magic lol. It often features illusions as creatures, it focuses heavily on card draw (here contextualized as a Planeswalker coming up with more ideas on the fly) and using magic to gain the upper hand through relatively indirect means. It's not the strongest (green), or the fiercest (red), or the most malicious (black). But it is creative, the ideas it tackles are more complex, generally. That doesn't mean that it has a monopoly on intelligence but it's flavored more towards intelligence than the others. In fact, if you look at the more intelligence-flavored decks out there, you'll see them splash blue even if they focus on other colors (heiromancy decks are blue and white for example).
When you give such a faulty definition of what intelligence is, you can make the case that pets are the smartest animal because with a couple of big eyes can get food, shelter and whatever else they require.
Empathy to humans in animals is factually an evolutionarily adapted trait which makes them, by relative definition, more intelligent than other animals. Those more intelligent would be the animals capable of getting food from humans for being cute while also retaining their autonomy.

The fact that a cute dog is going to have more success with people than an ugly one, doesn't mean the former is smarter.

No trait which minimizes collective intelligence of a species is beneficial in nature: all known animals evolve to a state of intellectual equilibrium with their surroundings. We aren't talking about the difference of single animals in the same species in different environments, we are talking on the scale of evolutionary adaptation over millions of years and across different yet comparable species. Your comparison hits the mark, but only if you're nearsighted and you squint. Arguably if a gray fox family ends up in the territory of white foxes, it's probably a dumb pack and won't survive very long regardless of any individual's personal intelligence or mutations.

If I utilize this as a way to find my colors it is interesting what it turns out to be. I am primarily Existential, Interpersonal, and Linguistic Intelligences. So based on this, I would be White, Green, and Black instead of how I often view myself as Green, Blue, and Red.
You made good points about Black seeming to embody the Intrapersonal and Linguistic Inteligences. However, I respectfully think the other colors can reach it in different ways. They'll be longer and more difficult, but such is the price of not choosing Black (which defines itself by taking costly shortcuts). Intrapersonal Intelligence, for instance, also sounds like something Red can use; it's just as focused on the self as Black, the only difference being it also values others beyond usefulness. In other words, even though Red would take longer than Black to develop Intrapersonal Intelligence, it can still understand itself with more clarity and creativity than Black can. Speaking of "usefulness", Red can also possess Linguistic Intelligence when paired with White and/or Blue. Red's ability to form connections can help it become inspirational to others if it gains help from White's social wisdom and/or Blue's perfectionism. White can also be Linguistically Intelligent when with Red (and also possibly with Green's peaceful side promoting social wisdom). MaRo has actually confirmed that Red-White is actually good at speeches, so this is actually canon.
so essentially your conclusion is "blue is not the smartest because smartness is subjective" which is a useless statement for this discussion Blue is the only color in which its philosophy preaches "think before acting and act according to your accumulated knowledge" which in itself results in smarter decisions. Blue is not Black so it does not care about the individual and neither is it White to worry about the opinions of others, it is not Green to worry about the consequences for the environment or Red to care about emotional biases and their own feelings. . your actions are defined by knowledge and what the facts say, then you say "nobody acts like that, people are influenced by several factors" and that's why I said it's useless for this discussion, because we're talking about the "smartest color " and not "the smartest person who follows the color". separate the individual from the color and you get the answer. this video kinda reaffirms to myself about me having a Izzet identitiy, cause my most enhanced intelligences are visual-spacial and musical (which to me is kinda a red intelligence, since music is more an artistical manifestation, and red is artsy as hell)
I think this is a bit of a stretch, it always seemed like Blue was the most intelligent because of its frequency of application, on average there are more higher intelligence people in blue than any other color, it is what represents blue's card population the most, especially when compared to the others

I simultaneously agree with but couldn't disagree with you more. Tell fact is all the colors of mtg are wizards and thus are smart. The problem is two fold. 1. Death of the author is a thing. 2. Just because something like the types of intelligencesuch can be evenly decided in the pie does not mean they are. To tthesis first point even though I agree in the mtg lore that there is no smarter color. The exception 9f both how the lorend is implemented both on a mono color level but a multicolored level say otherwise. For example. Even though both red and blue have aetificers.... red and blue together have more than both mono colors. White and blue may have scholars monof colord wise but blue and white together have way more. Even colord that aren't seeing doing anything scientific most of the time are suddenly studying evolution and reverse engineeringredients animals in blue green. I know you said there were other kinds of Intel encephalitis but just because you can devide them two percent color doesn't mean they are twopurple color. That's the problem is guess though. Despite us intuitively knowing things like is not the color of intelligence. Black is not the color of evil. White is not the color of the good guys. Implementation kind of says other wise, I would fault wotc but I can't, it's realy a human perception of these colors themselves that's the problem. There was a study of children. They were given a black doll and a white doll they were asked which doll was evil and what u remember being every time pointed to the black doll. These children have not had time to be effectedited by culture. So this is why the unbalanced nature of why these colors represent what they do. Even you fall for this. I know you know blck is not evil and white is not good but in your realms were you removed one color you portrayed the world without black as a utopia. The world with put blue had no technologiCal development really. You see how despite us saying that blue isn't the smartest color and rightfully so. It is an interessting categorization. Although i would say that we dont really know what Intelligence is fully. We can see its effects on our thinking, we can be guided by a thought or emotion. But i dont know, if i would agree to the "multible Intelligences" Theory proposed here. And its not about questioning multiple intelligences, it is questioning, whether we can clearly seperate each one of the proposed. Humans all to often try to dismember something, that may be interconnected. So our Form of Intelligence has its limits clearly. We can perceive the world in a way, and interact with it in a certain way. Guided by evolutionary and benefitial traits to survive and live. So to understand the Human view and perception, we need to understand their evolutionary purpose. We categorize, because it helps us to understand the world in our own way, so make it less chaotic, more predictable (or so we think). To interact and live, to survive, you need to understand, how your perceived environment functions, what exactly can and cant be eaten, differenciation of some sort. Adaptation is another capability, that contributes to survival in different parts of the world. In our understanding of Intelligence, we often use modern examples, like Mathematic Formulas, Pieces of Art, Musical Compositions, Philosophical Contemplation, Logical understanding. But all of that is not "what" intelligence "is", these are the results of a long and dynamic process in the human History, that has lead to these manifestations. But to understand, or at least understand more about that, what we call intelligence, we need to go back in time. We currently categorize the finished game as a masterpiece, or whatever it may be, but we dont see the process that has lead to it, the complexity of human interaction and capabilities, that has lead to the finished game.

Intelligent is your ability to solve a problem with your given knowledge. To that end I would say Red is the most intelligent. It regularly takes simple aggro and spins it into tempo and short combos. Red has always succeeded to some extent so well that it forced the card limit into existence. Being knowledgeable is the ability to recall information. In mtg where the library is defined as your spell tomb or mind the ability to draw can be seen as recalling knowledge. That’s what blue is wonderful at. However black has tutor spells, the ability to find the answer you know exists. I would say this ability to define importance is a more intelligent approach to knowledge ability.
It's always amazing to me how so many people want EVERYONE to be special, so they have these ideas of "different kinds of intelligence" - the only intelligence that has ever been demonstrably measured with repeatability through testing and affirmation through demonstrated results is traditional IQ - this is all the different breakdowns (language, spatial awareness, math, etc). The only 'type' of IQ that is not measured by real IQ testing that still meets the definition of intelligence is Interpersonal Intelligence. Truth doesn't regard feelings, and fairness is a social construct.
How we view and measure intelligence has grown and changed since its inception, with many theories on its true nature. If we fail to discuss our current views on intelligence we fail to continue to evolve. This video has nothing to do with fairness and everything to do with questioning established ideas.
As a Blue Sultai Bant esper and Simic, I've said for a long time that burn and aggro players are making as many choices and have the same level of game knowledge as me. Personally I feel like black due to its diverse set of cards is the most "game knowledge" color. But my understanding of the game is constantly changing and that might not be true.
Burn/Aggro and Control are two very different gameplans but both end up making a ton of decisions. Burn/Aggro is on the offensive and needs to be quick and efficient without putting themselves in excess danger. These archetypes are always making risk assessments to determine the most efficient play. I know the joke is “math is for blockers” but that isn’t completely true. Control is reactionary. Control tries to have an answer for whatever happens. Control is full of threat assessment. Figuring out what to disrupt and what they can afford to deal with later. That is what makes the game fun. The strategy.
Ya if needing to look at three extra cards every turn and picking one over and over is intelligent. If not doing damage, and taking extra turns. It's the easiest, and can be most difficult at draft level, atleast has the most choices.
I think the bias towards logical intelligence has its roots in the scientific revolution and the age of enlightenment. That said logical intelligence is profund to humanity. It's not only about math its about pattern recognition and the ability to se and predict cause and effect. When it's lacking we run a risk of being taken advantage of and get our selfs into bad situations.
A logical outcome doesn’t necessarily mean an optimal - or even desirable- outcome. There have been plenty of examples of very logical and intelligent people joining cults, for example, based on the presented logic
No, it really is though. Green timmies the board, white just throws down stops, red goes OOGA BOOGA face, and black just kills everything on its end. Blue is heavily reliant on combos, interactions, and key counters because its direct combat options are SHITE. And no, I'm going to disagree strongly with the "different kinds of intelligence" thing. That's the kind of pseudointellectual thing the midwits in HR come up with to feel good about themselves.
Every color has combos. There are many extremely convoluted combo lines that don't have any blue. Most blue combos are just: get infinite mana + draw my deck.
Isnt this just arguing semantics? Cant we call blue the smart color and red the passionate color and green the wise color and black the ambitious color and white the righteous color and say everybody is happy? Isnt it more important to be equally valued than to be exactly the same? I think if you think everyone needs to be smart to be valuable that says more about you than it does about intelligence. The labels dont matter as much as what meaning and value we derive from them.
The video wasn't so much about arguing semantics as it's a round about way to discuss the theory of multiple intelligences, one of the many major theories around measuring this trait. I found it interesting as it goes against our established theory of general intelligence, which is the standard way of doing iq testing. It's less about everyone being smart but rather the potential flaws in how we look at it.
@@DiceTry well I also found it interesting regardless. It's true that people don't evaluate intelligence as a diverse series of measurements and that is a bit of a shame. I don't really believe one way or the other as to whether the discussion about intelligences true identity is really about semantics but I'm just skeptical because people these days seem to focus a lot on distortion of perceptions and deconstructing established concepts for no real tangible end purpose. I trust you had a virtuous intention with this video, but remember that distinction and exclusion are integral parts of identity, in magic and in human existence. If everyone is super, no one will be.
That's a great point. Breaking down concepts for simple inclusion does no one favours. But challenging assumptions is always an important thing to do because that's how humanity comes to new conclusions. Physcology and philosophy especially need to be challenged because that's how they evolve.
I mostly contemplate the nature of life and existence through the prism of philosophy/theology in order to better understand the role of logic and technology in a more long-term sense. Because of this, I tend to not like red because of its proclivity to think in the moment, but at the expense of the future. Every action is a domino that can set a chain of events into motion, and the key is to make the chain one starts have a positive impact.
I absolutely understand what you're saying here, but I don't necessarily agree with how it's being presented. I wanna be clear, i don't think any one color is the "smartest", that feels like a big claim no matter what and always impossible to prove. This is to say, I agree with what you're saying, but i genuinely think you're losing some of your point by making this as much about magic and framing it like you have. Like philosophically, and in the context of the universes within the story of magic, yeah, i agree, but this video centering magic as much as it does is kind of jarring. I think that you could have conveyed the point better by maybe saying something like "what is the color of intelligence?" and examining the different forms of intelligent thought portrayed by each color without centering the fact that this is about magic as much as you have. Like i think if you use the colors as a starting point and then focus more on the philosophy of multiple forms of intelligence, the clips of researchers and philosophers talking about this feel less out of place. The opening where you talk about opening our minds to other forms of intelligence while also trying to keep this about the game of MTG felt a bit off, and i feel like the whole thing about how you claim that blue being the smartest color is a "lie propogated by logical minds who cannot see past their own biases" focuses the game of magic too much, and i don't feel like it's quite true, like would it not be logical to assume that emotion, connection with nature, and the like are valuable skills and therefore require intelligence? maybe that one's just me, but the point is i like the idea here, but i think you focus on magic too much tl;dr: got caught off guard by this being a video about philosophy rather than playing mtg, but i think you could have done this video in a way i feel (and if you don't, ignore this) to be more interesting and more accurate by focusing more on the aspects of each colors philosophy and using the colors as a jumping off point rather than focusing primarily on the Colors of Magic™ and that would make the philosophers and researchers also feel less out of place. I would say that I have a very strong naturalistic intelligence. It's very easy for me to spot patterns and rhythms of things. One example of this is early in life I learned how to 'game' multiple choice questions. I learned that many of those answers can't possibly be true and the right answer tended to have a particular wording pattern. Compounding this, I learned how my teachers tend to phrase their wording, so I could always tell when an answer didn't come from them. As a result of this, I became a straight A student without studying at all. People that I've mentioned this tactic to dismiss it as more of a testament to the flaw of the multiple choice question than anything and that literally anyone can do it. If anyone can do it, then why doesn't everyone do it? Why don't more people over the course of 12+ years start to recognize this pattern? I'm not trying to gas myself up here but thinking back to my school years and my classmates, I couldn't help but think I was the only one that figured this pattern out somehow. Maybe you can call this a balance of naturalistic and interpersonal intelligence? Perhaps this is why I ended up leaning so hard into Gruul when I discovered the Color Pie.

I hate Blue more than any other color, so seeing it, its philosophy and reputation knocked down several pegs to express how the other colors have their own form of intelligence that can't always be objectively measured makes me feel so much more confident in both myself as someone who rejects Blue, and in my hatred for the color. You also mentioned in the video how White wants to create rules and laws that would apply to everyone, and that's where its intelligence lies, but that's another form of intelligence I reject because just like how you can't uniformly measure intelligence, you also can't uniformly make laws that apply to everyone. I think my Gruul+ personality is shown in my more dominant intelligence styles as well, which I believe to be existential and interpersonal knowledge. I am really high in linguistic knowledge as well, but that might be accounted for the demands of schooling that pushed that intelligence higher than others

I don’t want to undermine the entire video, because I think that this is a very interesting idea, but the whole Gardner theory of intelligence is a total ass pull. When I was attending college they taught us that the theory doesn’t hold water and is seen more as a gimmick than a legit theory explaining inteligence. I'd count black as the "smartest" color generally. It's a low cunning ofc but black understands most subjects in a way while the others only beat them at a specific form. Red knows emotions, green knows nature, blue knows fact, & white knows spiritual things but black understands all of them enough to use them.
There's two levels to that: no consciousness at all in the pawns, and well mastered consciousness in all the higher demons and vampires and such.
For every one high intelligence entity in black, you have thousands with no intelligence beyond the will to serve.

my huge issue with this assessment of intellect is that it does allow for other kinds of intellect to shine, but it lets a ton of idiots associate themselves with intelligence. i can't even count on my hands how many times i have seen people who love to tout their emotional intelligence but in reality are absolute morons, both in the traditional and emotional sense, but because EI is highly amorphous and not measurable, they can just think they are and you're rude to go against it. that's why i believe in merit based intelligence. if you can do X and do it good, you're smart. X can be many things, but its all reliant on capacity, not just saying meaningless words and believing in things not evident
I agree with the message that our world doesn't take the full spectrum of mental skills seriously. But at the same time, I find the attempt to shoehorn the full spectrum of mental skills under the term "intelligence" is the wrong approach to the problem. Each of these skill categories already has perfectly good terminology we can use to talk about and appreciate them. I think the very attempt to create new lingo promoting "intelligence" to an umbrella term falls to the very trap we're trying to avoid here.

I believe blue values intelligence in all its forms for its own sake, and the other colors value it for the support it brings to their other values.
Black likes intelligence because it's a great tool for gaining power. Red likes it because understanding stimulates passion. Green likes it because it helps us find our way within our world. White likes it because it can help make order from seeming chaos. Blue likes it, period.
This is fascinating! It really puts into perspective how the other Colours may think, and therefore how they may interpret and interact with each other and their environments.
I’m definitely White/Black as it relates here, with a little Blue. The Intrapersonal-Linguistic of Black and the Interpersonal-Logical of White and its overlap with Blue are very relevant and relatable to me. What I find fascinating is that I can see all of these types of intelligence present in myself, and I suspect that may be true for others as well. I find it truly remarkable how the system of the Colour Pie can be as simple or as complex as how one perceives it to be; just like people!

I am definitely a black/red individual. I have very good introspective and linguistic aptitudes, and my preferred colors in terms of building and playing decks are also black and red!
Blue is so smart that Wizards collectively is unable to design its cards properly.
Let us remember that terms and theories are merely constructed by big brains to articulate their observations of an infinitely more complex underlying reality. They do not and never have shaped said reality and trying to pretend they do is one big reason every human gets something catastrophically wrong eventually.
Blue reminds me alot of engineers, anybody who has had the pleasure of dealing with them know that they may be educated and qualified but they can also be dumber than a pile of bricks at the same time. Being educated doesnt equate to being smart and intelligent
I think blue would take issue with the standard view of intelligence. If blue posits that everyone is a blank slate to begin with, why would it believe intelligence is a trait you either were born with or weren't?
Well, if we use the analogy that every person starts as a piece of blank paper, papers have different traits. There's paper that's easy to write on and there's paper that's hard to write on. There're also bigger pieces of paper and smaller pieces of paper.
I allways saw Blue as the color of Logic, Green the color of Wisdom, and Red the color of Emotion (which is a type of inteligence), White and Black are more flexible, and adapt their way of thinking to their goals and situation.
Based on what you’ve said, each color represents different approaches to understanding.

First of all, amazing video. Very interesting topic very well delievered. But something that has been stuck on my head was how incredible the art of magic is. So many images of the secret lair version of cards that, when filling a big screen, you get to see so many amazing details you wouldn't see on the card.
The art of Magic is one of my favorite things about this game. It makes creating videos a delight.
As I grew as a person and found my niche in society, my favored colors in Magic also evolved with me.
Initially, I liked the dark and brooding aesthetics of Blue/Black. Dimir fascinated me, and the deep implications within. I was also miserable at this time in my life. Then I started moving away from Black, started taking a liking to white. I continued to shift through many colors until now I am drawn to Gruul and Simic, with splashes of white. Landing where I am at now, I found a career path that suits my strengths, and this model you suggested fits my strengths and color choices exactly. :)

When I first started playing mtg way back in 2004, blue was my favorite color by far. Then slowly, over the years it became my least favorite. Interesting huh?
I always have thought that in mtg intelligence has a slice in each color. Blue is just the one that uses logic the most and some types of intelligence are represented as a combination of colors.
I think it would've been better to title the video Blue is not "the smart color" because the current title implies that there IS a smartest color.
I just wanna point out that blue is literally mind magic lol. It often features illusions as creatures, it focuses heavily on card draw (here contextualized as a Planeswalker coming up with more ideas on the fly) and using magic to gain the upper hand through relatively indirect means. It's not the strongest (green), or the fiercest (red), or the most malicious (black). But it is creative, the ideas it tackles are more complex, generally.
That doesn't mean that it has a monopoly on intelligence but it's flavored more towards intelligence than the others. In fact, if you look at the more intelligence-flavored decks out there, you'll see them splash blue even if they focus on other colors (heiromancy decks are blue and white for example).
I always liked black gameplay wise because it felt like blue but with consequences. I have nothing else to add just saying
When you give such a faulty definition of what intelligence is, you can make the case that pets are the smartest animal because with a couple of big eyes can get food, shelter and whatever else they require.
Empathy to humans in animals is factually an evolutionarily adapted trait which makes them, by relative definition, more intelligent than other animals.
Those more intelligent would be the animals capable of getting food from humans for being cute while also retaining their autonomy.

If I utilize this as a way to find my colors it is interesting what it turns out to be. I am primarily Existential, Interpersonal, and Linguistic Intelligences. So based on this, I would be White, Green, and Black instead of how I often view myself as Green, Blue, and Red.

You made good points about Black seeming to embody the Intrapersonal and Linguistic Inteligences. However, I respectfully think the other colors can reach it in different ways. They'll be longer and more difficult, but such is the price of not choosing Black (which defines itself by taking costly shortcuts).
Intrapersonal Intelligence, for instance, also sounds like something Red can use; it's just as focused on the self as Black, the only difference being it also values others beyond usefulness. In other words, even though Red would take longer than Black to develop Intrapersonal Intelligence, it can still understand itself with more clarity and creativity than Black can.
Speaking of "usefulness", Red can also possess Linguistic Intelligence when paired with White and/or Blue. Red's ability to form connections can help it become inspirational to others if it gains help from White's social wisdom and/or Blue's perfectionism. White can also be Linguistically Intelligent when with Red (and also possibly with Green's peaceful side promoting social wisdom). MaRo has actually confirmed that Red-White is actually good at speeches, so this is actually canon.

Blue is the only color in which its philosophy preaches "think before acting and act according to your accumulated knowledge" which in itself results in smarter decisions.
Blue is not Black so it does not care about the individual and neither is it White to worry about the opinions of others, it is not Green to worry about the consequences for the environment or Red to care about emotional biases and their own feelings. .

I think this is a bit of a stretch, it always seemed like Blue was the most intelligent because of its frequency of application, on average there are more higher intelligence people in blue than any other color, it is what represents blue's card population the most, especially when compared to the others

I simultaneously agree with but couldn't disagree with you more. Tell fact is all the colors of mtg are wizards and thus are smart. The problem is two fold. 1. Death of the author is a thing. 2. Just because something like the types of intelligencesuch can be evenly decided in the pie does not mean they are. To tthesis first point even though I agree in the mtg lore that there is no smarter color. The exception 9f both how the lorend is implemented both on a mono color level but a multicolored level say otherwise.

That's the problem is guess though. Despite us intuitively knowing things like is not the color of intelligence. Black is not the color of evil. White is not the color of the good guys. Implementation kind of says other wise, I would fault wotc but I can't, it's realy a human perception of these colors themselves that's the problem. There was a study of children. They were given a black doll and a white doll they were asked which doll was evil and what u remember being every time pointed to the black doll. These children have not had time to be effectedited by culture. So this is why the unbalanced nature of why these colors represent what they do. Even you fall for this. Strawman: The Video. I'm barely 4 minutes in, and quickly losing my will to carry on watching.
It is an interessting categorization. Although i would say that we dont really know what Intelligence is fully. We can see its effects on our thinking, we can be guided by a thought or emotion. But i dont know, if i would agree to the "multible Intelligences" Theory proposed here. And its not about questioning multiple intelligences, it is questioning, whether we can clearly seperate each one of the proposed. Humans all to often try to dismember something, that may be interconnected. So our Form of Intelligence has its limits clearly. We can perceive the world in a way, and interact with it in a certain way. Guided by evolutionary and benefitial traits to survive and live. So to understand the Human view and perception, we need to understand their evolutionary purpose. We categorize, because it helps us to understand the world in our own way, so make it less chaotic, more predictable (or so we think). To interact and live, to survive, you need to understand, how your perceived environment functions, what exactly can and cant be eaten, differenciation of some sort. Adaptation is another capability, that contributes to survival in different parts of the world.
In our understanding of Intelligence, we often use modern examples, like Mathematic Formulas, Pieces of Art, Musical Compositions, Philosophical Contemplation, Logical understanding. But all of that is not "what" intelligence "is", these are the results of a long and dynamic process in the human History, that has lead to these manifestations. But to understand, or at least understand more about that, what we call intelligence, we need to go back in time. We currently categorize the finished game as a masterpiece, or whatever it may be, but we dont see the process that has lead to it, the complexity of human interaction and capabilities, that has lead to the finished game.

Intelligent is your ability to solve a problem with your given knowledge. To that end I would say Red is the most intelligent. It regularly takes simple aggro and spins it into tempo and short combos. Red has always succeeded to some extent so well that it forced the card limit into existence.
Being knowledgeable is the ability to recall information. In mtg where the library is defined as your spell tomb or mind the ability to draw can be seen as recalling knowledge. That’s what blue is wonderful at. However black has tutor spells, the ability to find the answer you know exists. I would say this ability to define importance is a more intelligent approach to knowledge ability.

It's always amazing to me how so many people want EVERYONE to be special, so they have these ideas of "different kinds of intelligence" - the only intelligence that has ever been demonstrably measured with repeatability through testing and affirmation through demonstrated results is traditional IQ - this is all the different breakdowns (language, spatial awareness, math, etc). The only 'type' of IQ that is not measured by real IQ testing that still meets the definition of intelligence is Interpersonal Intelligence. Truth doesn't regard feelings, and fairness is a social construct.
How we view and measure intelligence has grown and changed since its inception, with many theories on its true nature. If we fail to discuss our current views on intelligence we fail to continue to evolve. This video has nothing to do with fairness and everything to do with questioning established ideas.

As a Blue Sultai Bant esper and Simic, I've said for a long time that burn and aggro players are making as many choices and have the same level of game knowledge as me. Personally I feel like black due to its diverse set of cards is the most "game knowledge" color. But my understanding of the game is constantly changing and that might not be true.
Burn/Aggro and Control are two very different gameplans but both end up making a ton of decisions.
Burn/Aggro is on the offensive and needs to be quick and efficient without putting themselves in excess danger. These archetypes are always making risk assessments to determine the most efficient play. I know the joke is “math is for blockers” but that isn’t completely true.
Control is reactionary. Control tries to have an answer for whatever happens. Control is full of threat assessment. Figuring out what to disrupt and what they can afford to deal with later.
That is what makes the game fun. The strategy.

I think the bias towards logical intelligence has its roots in the scientific revolution and the age of enlightenment.
That said logical intelligence is profund to humanity. It's not only about math its about pattern recognition and the ability to se and predict cause and effect. When it's lacking we run a risk of being taken advantage of and get our selfs into bad situations.
A logical outcome doesn’t necessarily mean an optimal - or even desirable- outcome. There have been plenty of examples of very logical and intelligent people joining cults, for example, based on the presented logic

No, it really is though. Green timmies the board, white just throws down stops, red goes OOGA BOOGA face, and black just kills everything on its end. Blue is heavily reliant on combos, interactions, and key counters because its direct combat options are SHITE.
And no, I'm going to disagree strongly with the "different kinds of intelligence" thing. That's the kind of pseudointellectual thing the midwits in HR come up with to feel good about themselves.
Every color has combos. There are many extremely convoluted combo lines that don't have any blue. Most blue combos are just: get infinite mana + draw my deck.

Isnt this just arguing semantics? Cant we call blue the smart color and red the passionate color and green the wise color and black the ambitious color and white the righteous color and say everybody is happy? Isnt it more important to be equally valued than to be exactly the same? I think if you think everyone needs to be smart to be valuable that says more about you than it does about intelligence. The labels dont matter as much as what meaning and value we derive from them.
The video wasn't so much about arguing semantics as it's a round about way to discuss the theory of multiple intelligences, one of the many major theories around measuring this trait. I found it interesting as it goes against our established theory of general intelligence, which is the standard way of doing iq testing. It's less about everyone being smart but rather the potential flaws in how we look at it.
@@DiceTry well I also found it interesting regardless. It's true that people don't evaluate intelligence as a diverse series of measurements and that is a bit of a shame. I don't really believe one way or the other as to whether the discussion about intelligences true identity is really about semantics but I'm just skeptical because people these days seem to focus a lot on distortion of perceptions and deconstructing established concepts for no real tangible end purpose. I trust you had a virtuous intention with this video, but remember that distinction and exclusion are integral parts of identity, in magic and in human existence. If everyone is super, no one will be.
That's a great point. Breaking down concepts for simple inclusion does no one favours. But challenging assumptions is always an important thing to do because that's how humanity comes to new conclusions. Physcology and philosophy especially need to be challenged because that's how they evolve.
I mostly contemplate the nature of life and existence through the prism of philosophy/theology in order to better understand the role of logic and technology in a more long-term sense. Because of this, I tend to not like red because of its proclivity to think in the moment, but at the expense of the future. Every action is a domino that can set a chain of events into motion, and the key is to make the chain one starts have a positive impact.

I absolutely understand what you're saying here, but I don't necessarily agree with how it's being presented. I wanna be clear, i don't think any one color is the "smartest", that feels like a big claim no matter what and always impossible to prove. This is to say, I agree with what you're saying, but i genuinely think you're losing some of your point by making this as much about magic and framing it like you have. Like philosophically, and in the context of the universes within the story of magic, yeah, i agree, but this video centering magic as much as it does is kind of jarring. I think that you could have conveyed the point better by maybe saying something like "what is the color of intelligence?" and examining the different forms of intelligent thought portrayed by each color without centering the fact that this is about magic as much as you have. Like i think if you use the colors as a starting point and then focus more on the philosophy of multiple forms of intelligence, the clips of researchers and philosophers talking about this feel less out of place. The opening where you talk about opening our minds to other forms of intelligence while also trying to keep this about the game of MTG felt a bit off, and i feel like the whole thing about how you claim that blue being the smartest color is a "lie propogated by logical minds who cannot see past their own biases" focuses the game of magic too much, and i don't feel like it's quite true, like would it not be logical to assume that emotion, connection with nature, and the like are valuable skills and therefore require intelligence? maybe that one's just me, but the point is i like the idea here, but i think you focus on magic too much
tl;dr: got caught off guard by this being a video about philosophy rather than playing mtg, but i think you could have done this video in a way i feel (and if you don't, ignore this) to be more interesting and more accurate by focusing more on the aspects of each colors philosophy and using the colors as a jumping off point rather than focusing primarily on the Colors of Magic™ and that would make the philosophers and researchers also feel less out of place. I like the idea, i agree with a lot of what you said, just didn't like how you presented all of it. I did enjoy the video overall, so keep up the good work

I would say that I have a very strong naturalistic intelligence. It's very easy for me to spot patterns and rhythms of things. One example of this is early in life I learned how to 'game' multiple choice questions. I learned that many of those answers can't possibly be true and the right answer tended to have a particular wording pattern. Compounding this, I learned how my teachers tend to phrase their wording, so I could always tell when an answer didn't come from them. As a result of this, I became a straight A student without studying at all.
People that I've mentioned this tactic to dismiss it as more of a testament to the flaw of the multiple choice question than anything and that literally anyone can do it. If anyone can do it, then why doesn't everyone do it? Why don't more people over the course of 12+ years start to recognize this pattern? I'm not trying to gas myself up here but thinking back to my school years and my classmates, I couldn't help but think I was the only one that figured this pattern out somehow.
Maybe you can call this a balance of naturalistic and interpersonal intelligence? Perhaps this is why I ended up leaning so hard into Gruul when I discovered the Color Pie.
Blue is boring. Play a bunch of can trips, counter some big threats, get a couple artifacts and make an infinite combo.

I was screaming "Thank you!" This entire video. I hate Blue more than any other color, so seeing it, its philosophy and reputation knocked down several pegs to express how the other colors have their own form of intelligence that can't always be objectively measured makes me feel so much more confident in both myself as someone who rejects Blue, and in my hatred for the color.
You also mentioned in the video how White wants to create rules and laws that would apply to everyone, and that's where its intelligence lies, but that's another form of intelligence I reject because just like how you can't uniformly measure intelligence, you also can't uniformly make laws that apply to everyone.
Well done, Dice. Now I have a resource to use to tell White and Blue-aligned people that they're not infallible.
