Love the mini-dress & boots... O_O
Me to, although I wish she had Thicker thighs & booty!!!
AL BUNDY knew what to buy!!!!
shes a high school teacher? the boys must go crazy.
comfortableman12 lol
She's probably passed away now though
I had her
She was amazing 😜
pretty typical for 1970-71 teacher outfit
This was back before hot teachers realized that 15-17 year old dick is better than 30 year old dick. Now they know, as we see in all the recent court filings. Of course, back then boys didn't have the balls to close the deal on the hot teacher, whereas now they do. And the Duster was made to seat 5 1970-sized adults, not the hormone-fed, medicated, obese pig people of the 2010's.
I had a 71Gold Duster 318 V8. My first car. Loved it. It opened up a whole new world. Went all over with it. My friends were jealous. Wish I could have kept it locked away in a garage or barn after it gave out. Boy, those were the days!
The "hey you down there" voiceover is absolutely fantastic. I love the men's and women's fashions in this video. The men's looks kind of dated, but the women's is intriguing, and fit for a comeback.
My dad had both. He said the maverick was intolerably underpowered. His Duster had a more powerful 318 motor, but it had terrible body rot problems. They don't call them "Rusters" for nothing.
Everything up north rotted back then unless you kept in a temp controlled garage.
Never had a problem with rust on my duster
Man...some chicks from the 60s and 70s were friggin hot.
These types of videos are great. In 71 you could get a maverick with a v8, 5 lug wheels, and bucket seats. they sure made the duster seem to be a great car.
I love these reels too - they're the coolest! Totally hearing you, but in my opinion Valiant was always far more car than anything Ford / GM had in this conventional format...outstanding value in its design, keenly priced.
what years the maverick In your profile pic? '74?
+Justin S it was a 77
+Bart Hammack oh lol, nice. I have a 72 and a 74.
Always thought the Duster was a sharp car. Much better than the Maverick. Add a 340 and 4 speed? Iconic.
They stepped up the game again in 1975 with a half naked Ursula Andres yelling" Hey Charger!"
Lift the back of a duster, little wider tires... the best looking rear end ever!!! I have one, thumbs up multiple times a day!!!!!
I had a 72 Duster and I loved it.
"Why I smoke more than that! " She says looking at the 77 dollar added cost.
She didn't mention if they were the left handed smokes- or not.
Her outfit is in the style of Star Trek.
Actually, her outfit was typical of that era, Star Trek copied it.
Now what type of 'smoke' could she be referring to? i mean this was in 1970 after all.
In that day Nixon made marijuana a schedule A drug, so likely not that but cigarette smoking which is more addictive and dangerous than pot was de rigueur.
The two cars are from two completely different classes. The Maverick was bill as the first US built small economy car to compete with imports. They may as well compare a Roadrunner to a Chevette.
But the Duster was considered a compact car, in it's time.
He got the "boyfriend line" at 5:52, lol.
I get the boyfriend or husband line every time I talk to a woman.
my mom had both, hated the duster and had reliability problems. She really liked the maverick.
What the hell was wrong with it? The Duster was a very reliable and indestructible vehicle, and how could you not love the famous Slant-Six engine? The Maverick was cool too, but it never came close to being as good as the Duster.
Miss my 73 Duster 318, 3 on the floor.
she's cute! I'll take the Duster
I'm sold! I'm buying a Duster instead.
not to mention the fird would be left in the dust regardless of engine choice. and add a 340? better swap in that 351w just to have a chance lmao!
No power brakes, or disc option, or glove box in Maverick...I knew it was skimpy, but that's ridiculous! Hard to believe Duster was in the same price class.
who cares, the car was extremely light. mavericks came with ac, as did mine. can't remember the last time i saw a mopar like this with AC. I NEVER see mopars with ac. I don't know wtf it is but mopars rarely ever have ac.
I've owned two mopars and one did come with ac so 50/50 in my experience. But I think most mopar guys take the AC off. And I don't think any high performance models came with AC because the compressor leeched HP from the engine. You know parasitic draw and all that.
and what was it
Trendyrapslut 1974 Dodge Charger is the car with AC. But it didn't come with the 440, just a 318 so not performance oriented at all.
@@Trendyrapslut Very few people bought AC in cars in that low price range back then. The early mavericks had this hang on unit where the AC was in that lower dash package tray and it looked Iike a dealer add on.
Neat Video, Glad I picked up My 68'Polara 5 Years ago, still running strong. Mopar or No Car.
I remember growing up driving my Folks 87' Thunderchicken Turbo Coupe, Getting "Dusted" By a 72' with a Slant 6 !!
Forget the cars. She is hot!!!!
Nah, the cars are way cooler.
Both cars were awesome!
The duster was my second Mopar but was a 70 and an awesome little car. I actually traded it for my first car which was a 68 Charger and have had several hot Mopars over the years
My BIL had a bright yellow '71 Duster 340. That thing could scoot, and because it was relatively light it actually handled fairly well for something with a live axle and bias-ply tires. It ate those tires for lunch though and he was lucky if he got 5000 miles out of a set.
Really interesting! I recall the big selling feature of the original 1970 Maverick was the $1995 base price for a totally stripped car.. compact, basic and simple - Mom's or Grandma's grocery getter and nothing more. Add about 8 years and Ford had the Fairmont to replace it. The Duster seems more in the Nova class all around. Larger, nicer and a bit higher in price but you liked the extras that you got for the higher price.
the maverick was designed to compete with the VW beetle, as well as Japanese imports.
Justin S The Pinto was more of a competitor to the subcompacts.
Indeed the Maverick was the replacement to the long running Falcon, which had very much run its course. The Maverick was supposed to be replaced by the Granada, but demand for smaller and more fuel efficient cars large than the subcompact class kept the Maverick around along with the Granada being introduced as a luxurious compact (compact for that era). The Pinto was intended to compete with the Vega, the Beetle and the Japan imports.
Yes the pinto seems to fill that role better, but that's is the role that the Maverick was designed to take on aswell.
@@justins6134 I think the Maverick was designed and marketed as a price competitor tothe VW Bug and the Asian cars that were starting to filter in, but it was more of a "for the same money of a few dollars more you can have......" promoting value .
My duster is pretty clean being nearly 50 years old it's never been in the salt ever. Interesting to see how they started out back then and the price ranges. Growing up in the 60s and 70s the E body the A body and B body Chryslers were our toys. Lots of fun in those 70s LOL
I suddenly want a Duster.
Good job marketing. Don't forget the vinyl seats burning you to a crisp in the summer.
Beautiful. Mopar or no car.
your right. dont forget mopar means Move Over People Are Racing. Im big on fords and i had a 71 maverick, but ive allways thought that the nova had them all beat
***** Yep, I'm a Mopar guy but I've always had a spot for GM,especially a soft sport for the Nova. My dad had a baby/sky blue 77 Chevy Nova Rallye Sport, four in the floor: 350... I loved that car,but he sold it... Yep, I'm not to crazy on fords but there are a few fords I like. thanks for sharing with me friend, thumbs up.
In Spanish, NOVA means no va or "doesn't go!" Chevy couldn't sell the NOVA in Mexico; had to rename it for them!
Someone must've watched this video at Ford, because the company remedied many of the criticism laid against its product in a few years time: The bumpers get beefed-up, glove compartment and front disk brakes added, spare tire disappeared bellow trunk carpet just like in the Duster, changed to 5 lug-nut wheels and so on.
The big boxy bumpers that were added in '73 ruined the Maverick's earlier, more streamlined looks. I had a '72 with 302 w/2bbl carb. It was an ok car, pretty peppy, but the front end was completely worn out at 100K miles.
This video ain't about Dusters and Mavericks...it's about MINISKIRTS!
Today it's about being politically correct and appeasing the left by showing lots of non-European descent people who don't know or care what makes a car better. Obviously today a woman can't be portrayed as being sexy in any advertisement, at least not in Western culture. However a sexy transvestite, that's encouraged.
40 dislikes? That must be 40 upset Maverick owners! LOL
1971 and all my friends are getting cars for graduation... one got a Hornet, one got a Camero. I was hoping for a Duster but my Mom was more economically traditional and I got her '61 Fairlane.
Later that year I swapped it out for a '64 VW.
I've owned both of these cars....the maverick all day long.. I sold all my Mopar stuff...I still have the maverick
I'd take a '71 Duster over a '71 Maverick any day!
They don't mention that the '71 Maverick was available with a 210 horse 302 V8, and had little trouble laying the smack down on a 318 Duster. The 340 Duster/Demon was a performance car in a different price class.
I had a 71 Maverick 302V8 ordered extra.
Burn and Smoked the tires off the line big time!! Needed a mufler, sounded like a Olds Cutlass, had a 9 inch rear end. Off the line it was the fastest car I've owned, Great Sleeper..
Believe you me that vehicle is more comfortable than today's cramped and totally controlled cockpit style interiors.
I want that consolette!
Besides what car was better, what really surprises me is the way they look at that time!!!! New brand!!!! Both of them look fantastic, in my personal opinion maverick had a ver y nice and sport style, I wasnt even born at that time!! Regards and thanks for sharing the video!!!!!
had Mopar's slant six in my '66 Dodge Dart. Pretty zippy and reliable with its bulletproof automatic trainy. Although points were challenging to change in the limited engine space.
The Plymouth Valiant DUSTER is considered an iconic performance car today...especially when equipped with the 340 V-8 . Where is the Maverick today ? Even FORD fans don't talk about it ....and I never see any of them on the road today . I still see lots of Dusters and other Valiants !!
You obviously don't get out much...
williamg2552 The Ford Maverick outsold Duster in Triples and ran longer due to higher sales numbers, The 302 was also a more reliable engine than the 340.
tidd bob what an idiot
Who is this Beautiful Girl in Boots?
I'll keep my 75 maverick any day. A lot of the issues they had they changed in 73.
She did teach at Sammy Davis Jr. High School.
26 dollars!! lol It's Duster for me. Had one I restored back in the late 1990's. I sold it to the first person who looked at it. Really wish I still had that car.
Remember that 26 bucks was 1% of the base price. Like $200 on a car today for a plastic storage cubby.
Remember the good ole days when girls were Hot and didn't have a cell phone stuck to they're... Beak...and could actually hold a decent conversation.
Bella Wright yeah that's why I miss the 70s. Such a different time and different people. Lots of pretty girls that were all natural. Friends tell me I'm old school but I tell them a natural look is what it's all about not a bunch of fake additives on a body holding a cell phone LOL. I like the cell phone for checking out stuff like this but I don't spend much time on them. I went over to visit old friends last night and they set their with the phone in their ear most of the time I was there. Rude. Especially coming out of my generation
I cannot imagine the number of law suits Dodge would face these days if they do such a commercial
Duster in a Landslide! The 340 Duster became Legendary.
But chalk this one up for Maverick: the fuel slot is behind the medallion in the center of the rear end! Duster puts the fuel slot on the driver's side, which is convenient I guess, but that means you either have to remember where it is before you get gas, or be forced to drag the hose behind the car or over the trunk!
If Chrysler now 2020 put for sale an All new car same this video, sure I get out running for buying it soon.
I had both a 1970 Maverick and a 1975 Duster, Duster was a much better car. Maverick always had something getting broken, most of which took a trip to the dealer, especially the column shifter.
They just described the foundation for a race car compared to a grocery getter... ones worth fixing while the other isnt
I've had both, and preferred my drivers ed teacher. She got in and out of hundreds of cars, but she didn't hump the floor at least.
i would buy one
Torsion bar suspension was not better than coil spring. Torsion bar systems were stiff and gave a rickety ride. Coil springs were more supple and had greater responsiveness over bumps. That's why almost all cars today use coil springs and torsion bar systems are all but abandoned. And I owned a '72 Maverick with a 302 and a Plymouth Roadrunner 440 w/6BBL, so I know the difference. The front suspension on the Maverick was completely worn out at 100K miles (ball joints, tie rod ends, control arm bushings - all shot). Also, the 302 Mavericks were a nightmare to change the spark plugs in. The shock towers were squeezed in right next to the heads so that plug access was severely restricted.
I'd spend all day asking her to fold seat ahead
My God, its like comparing a Pacer to a Yugo. But I would take the Duster. I had an Aunt with a Maverick and it was pure misery to ride in, look at, and listen to running. And the door thunk was like closing the lid on a dumpster. Krap! with a capital "K".
i like the nylons and boots
"I teach at North Senior High, and have had 40 kids at my home --- err --- 40 kids in my classroom. I prefer teaching my kids in a more personal style. Next year, I will be teaching the new sex education classes my school has approved. I hope to use the same intimate -- err -- personal style I use now" :)
Working on her night moves....
So this wasn't really a "film." It was a slide show shown on a Kodak Carousel slide projector with a record played on a record player that provided the sound you hear. The beeps you hear right before they go to another image is the audible cue to go to the next slide. Customers were shown this slide presentation if they were considering a Duster. Salesman also watched it to develop the various sales pitches they could use to convince a prospective buyer to go for the Duster.
They never mentioned which car got better gas mileage. Female clothing fashions back then were great!
gas mileage wasn't an issue in 1971. You could get full service for about 24 cents a gallon
All that hating... I´d still take a V8 4-speed Maverick
1971 Maverick Grabber all day for me 302
duster is a beauty
Informative and snide
Lindo carro
You can't exactly compare the two. Ford's main goal was to Target the Volkswagen beetle for fuel mileage. Both engines offered in the Maverick were good engines, especially the die hard 302. 71-72 Maverick Grabbers are very good looking cars, and fun street machines with 4.56 gears. and a tweeked 302.
I love dusters
Remembering that min wage full time take home was $65 a week back then...and you had to walk inside a bank to get that $65.
I love the Torino !
The 1971 Chevrolet Nova also should have been included in this film!
True, but Chrysler was going after the Maverick because it was selling so well. The Maverick out sold the Mustang in the early 1970s.
After owning both a 1970 Maverick and 1972 Duster...... there is no comparison. The Duster is much more car than a POS Maverick. The six cylinder Maverick had one of the worse rear ends ever been built, the V8 had a 8" better but still not as strong as the Duster 8 3/4 rear end. The Transmission 727 torque flight in the Duster, C4 in the Maverick, there is no comparison, again Duster wins. The slant 6 again a better engine than the 170 engine of the early Mavericks the later 250 did have more power, the 318 of the Duster did not have the power of the 302 in the Maverick, but 340 in a Duster, sorry Grabber or Comet Gt could not come close. The Maverick was only a step up from a Pinto, Ford made some wonderful cars, but the Maverick was with out a doubt not one of them. I have built a Maverick from ground up, in stock form they are crap...... but if you want to invest the money and change about every stock drive line component, they are light and can be made to run super fast. Hate to break it to you, but facts are facts.
Im sure you are right. Sounds so. But Maverick looked better
@@guyjonson6364 naaahhh...it didn't look better at all.
sldl04 also rust
@@guyjonson6364 I would say the Maverick always looked cheap. In style it was outclassed by the duster and the Nova easily. Also to me a 340 duster or a 350 Nova could be considered an entry level muscle car, but I've never felt the same about a Maverick even a grabber.
I think one reason that Maverick Grabbers are so rare Compared to 340 Dusters or 350 Novas is that no one bought them.
Qual eh o fabricante desse lindo automovel
Do i get the girl with the Duster because i can get a girl with a Maverick, just sayin'.
But Duster still settles for a warning light for oil pressure. That doesn't tell you exactly what's going on with your oil until it's too late, and doesn't give you enough time to do something about that!
I'd take a '71 Maverick over a '71 Duster any day!
I'd take a 71 duster over a 71 maverick any day
I DID take a Maverick over a Duster.
same here Daimler Chrysler ALLL DAY LONG
Duster over the Maverick all day. That 225 slant six was indestructible.
sldl04 My 250 I6 that came in my Maverick is the original one it came from the factory with, and it's still running strong enough to be a daily driver. Plus the extra 25 cubic inches means I push out more horsepower.
That $26 consolette'd run you $168.77 in today's wampum...
8:57 What's wrong with the driver's side headlight on the photo of the Valiant? Why are they showing that headlight to be so much smaller than the passenger-side headlight? The actual model wasn't like that, right?
twenty six dolleeerrrs !
David Pack damn!!! A twenty, a five & a one!!!!! Pocket change!!!!
That's $172 today...
Chrysler bigger is always better haha. Love this comparisons
Whats the song at 0:08?
Well I reckon this add did the job of pointing out the Plymouths many advantages. Hard to believe Ford could send that to market with such a limited engine choice and no option of even disc brakes? No wonder the Duster was such a hot seller......probably the little stunner in this promo sold the odd one or two as well :)
The maverick is Ford's top selling car for first year sells. It beat the mustang and has never been beat. the maverick got a glove box in 73, disc brakes became an option in 74, power brakes became an option in 75, 302 was an option in 71, they were really neat little cars. they looked good and were inexpensive so they sold well.
Mavericks with the 302 are real popular again.
I'd like to find one, fast, Great Sleeper!!
Ford sold many more Mavericks then Plymouth sold Dusters and Dodge Demons. Chrysler was still allowing more "parts bin engineering" allowing the divisions to market more trim levels and engine/transmission options. With the Maverick Ford focused on a "new" car (re-hashed Falcon/Mustang) at a very competitive price. It sold well for them and filled a gap until they could get the Pinto on the market. Chrysler never developed a sub compact car to compete with Ford's Pinto/Bobcat or GM's Vega. Instead Chrysler as a stopgap measure imported Hillmans from their European Division marketed as a Plymouth Cricket and Mitsubishis as Dodge Colts. The Gas crisis hit and then Chryser brought out the Dodge Omni/Plymouth Horizon, which was a modified version of another one of their European cars sold in the US with a Volkswagen engine. The later release gave them a better car for that market until Ford rolled out the US version of the Escort 2 or 3 years later and GM the Caviler and it's sister cars 4 or 5 years later. As far as this market the Duster and Valiant were replaced by the Volare and Aspen which weren't a proud moment for Chrysler and the bottom point for Chrysler engineering.
I'd take Duster over a Maverick any day!!! Mopar 5 speed 340!!!
Also lol at 2:47 "rich and warm" the Plymouth duster had one of the most sparse and boring dashboards in automotive history...
I thought they didn't change to the rectangular speedo til 1972
Why did they produce this film to mimic a slideshow with synced audio track ("bong-bong-bong")?
It probably WAS a slide show with a synced audio track. It was very common back then to have a film strip that you advanced with each "bong" in the accompanying audio cassette tape. No Internet or RUclips in 1970.
I'd take a Maverick Grabber with a 302, which came out the very next year. Am I missing something here, or are the cars completely different types and sizes? They wouldn't have dared doing this promo film with a Torino. Put a Torino next to the Duster, and the Duster would be blown out of the water. The Maverick is a much smaller car aimed at economy. The Duster was a larger car and cheaply made, it's the only reason they could pull the price card. They started rusting the second they rolled off the transports. A Slant six might last twenty years, but the Dusters body wouldn't.
But no one wants to talk about the Nova in the room? And of course none of the AMC cars are mentioned.
É o carro do filme DUEL .
But... Mavericks came with 302s?
I can tell you for a fact they could come stock with a 302.
The 302 became an option in 71. I had a 74 Comet for a while with a bone stock 302 2bbl that was about 25 years old. It had blow by so bad I had to cap the dipstick, but it still hauled butt. Those little cars even with an anemic worn out 70's 302, would get up and move.
@@Oil_Rig_Roy Mercury Comets came with 302 but not a Maverick. Mavericks never came with a V8. A lot of people did convert them to a v8
@@blackisback74 They 100% did offer a 302 option. As @bikedueder said, it became an option in 71, a year after its release. My assumption is this commercial was released in 70 before it became an option.
@@Oil_Rig_Roy but they were released in 1969 as 1970 models with no V8 option. Since hey were based on the Falcon and Mustang platforms V8s started finding their way into Mavericks quite early (it was a bolt in swap) Ford listened and started offering the V8 as an option
4 dr valiant is best i had 1971
What about the Nova?
I have a 69.5 Maverick... it pisses me off incessantly. People love it though. I'm not sure why.
When a Valiant duster weighs ??
Title weight on mine says 2765. Its a '70 .
I've had both and both were cheaply made cars. The Maverick suspension always squeaked from the factory, and the Duster suspension with it's torsion bar was not very good to be honest. The extreme camber angles that Duster went through when going over bumps and pot holes made the care nearly impossible to keep in a straight line...
Because they offered a 340 in a duster is why it's a better car. Had for put the 302 or even went crazy and put like the 390 in it, then it wouldn't even be in the same league.
Is this a commercial
well my friends I like both cars believed or not I have a maverick 74 302 engine whit only 40 thousand miles
