- Ben Collier's video sequence of 'The line up' at York Railway Museum on Saturday 05.07.08 (costing £32.50 per person to attend) of '4' A4's after 60007 had just arrived from London with it's train and later 60009 was to head north from York to Edinburgh with the train but unfortunately it failed at Tyne Yard before Newcastle and had to carry on diesel hauled before 60007 was to be sent up Sunday morning light engine to join the diesel hauled train for the return at Tyne Yard.
This is the first time for years and years that all the A4's lined up and the first time Mallard has emerged out the museum for over 20 years.
Witness them all whistling as 60009 works past them on the mainline as it heads north. Of course the legendary Mallard in the foreground wasn't whistling but the spectacle was defining and spine tingling Chime Whistles galore! Saturday 05.07.08
South Africa: "I'm off. See you later!"
Gresley: "Bye! Have fun!"
Bittern: "Yeah. Bye!"
Mallard: *I hate you all so much.*
mallard is actually in non operational( in other words, the boiler hasn't been inspected and therefore, does not have a valid boiler ticket)
FatFaceNo. 4 it would also cost to much to get to modern mainline safety standards someone at the N.R.M told me this
sleeming88 LOL
Mallard: I wish I was operational like you guys...
All others: maybe one day...
Yeah mallards last outing on the mainline was in 1988 during the 50th anniversary of its world record
Brilliant! Loved the Engine's 'talking' towards the end there!
2:13 and that’s when I realize.
That’s a steam age whistle.
It’s actually the one at the end.
Me too lol
Right
Ahh, Sir Nigel Gresley.
This is still my favourite ever video on RUclips. Guaranteed to make me cry with joy every time.
2:42 is steam age Mallard whistle...
steam age roblox game, Yes that’s the original whistle
Also 3583 bytes train sim mallard whistle
Absolutely amazing would have loved to be there, outstanding whistles. Long Live The A4 Pacific.
60009: “I’m steaming out”
Sir Nigel Gresley: “I salute you brother!”
Bittern: “Cheerio mate!”
Mallard: *•____•*
I hope mallard is in steam for her 100th anniversary of her world record run it would be great to see but sadly i think that she will be just sitting there not moving because they dont want to ruin her original state which i can understand :(. It is great to see some of the other A4's in steam they are my favorite class of loco
josh u do know theres a total of 6 and they wont with malard bc it could ruin her boiler or they wont want to risk ruining a beutiful lner a4
Of course I know about all the A4 locos they are my favourite loco. I understand they don't want to ruin mallard but she deserves to be in steam for her 100th anniversary
i know but still she now lives with NRM york and they may not want to steam her incase she gets damaged and im sure the feller him self would say that but its the NRM who own her and u should contact them and ask them if she'll be steamed up as she probly wants it her self
Sorry to be a tosser, but I feel like the Mallard is a he.
They dragged her out of retirement in 1988 for the fiftieth anniversary of the record run, and she ran almost in original condition. I'm sure she COULD be put back into working order just to get a few miles on her. And surely electronic systems could be mounted in the support coach so as 4468's originality would remain.
I know. It's all I wanted them to do when attending the photo shoot and never thought they would all Whistle with each other.
Cheers, Ben.
2:12 whistle from train sim
Its actually at 2:42
Did mallard whistle too ?
Edit: Never mind I read the description and I saw, Mallard was probably glad to be with her brother's and sister's during this
Mallard: You guys are lucky to be in working condition -_-
Union of south africa: Don’t worry one day you will run again, not sure when but one day
Sir Nigel: She is right, you will one day be given another chance to be in working order for now they just need to figure out how much it will cost and what parts you need
Bittern: their both right, someday you will be able to in working condition like us and maybe be they’ll have you run at 90mph like I did on the 75th anniversary
Mallard: I hope so, and I hope you guys are right too
It’s kinda sad that 60009 has now joined mallard in mainline unemployment, probably forever
In my opinion, the A4's have the finest sounding whistles in steam locomotive history. Goosebumps every time I hear them.
2:41 that whistle is actually being used in a roblox game for a A4 pacific.
yes
very beautiful whistles and amazing shots of side by sides
Excellent job as well, she looked immaculate well done to you and everyone (as I take it you were cleaning too) for way it's was turned out like the other A4's in true splender. Great job, it was all worth it!
An iconic moment in history! Cheers.
Yeah I bet. So pleased they were all together on the Saturday. Just so great to see. Bet there was a good atmosphere on the train.
Cheers, Ben.
Absolutely Fantastic! I saw 60009 come through Northallerton yesterday, beautiful she was, that last scene with all whistling at 60009 as she leaves York, brough a tear to my eye.
I think the woman speaking at the end of the whistles summed it up - "Bloody BRILLIANT!" Thanks for putting this clip on.
love it
1:53 onwards
HAHAHAHAHA!!! I. F*CKING. LOVE. TRAINS! WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! YYYYEEEAAAAAHHHHH!!!! XD
Train Maniac Studios watch your language good sir!
@@terrier_productions are you a gentleman
@@andrew_jfjfjfjf well.. I have manners and people say I’m a gentleman but that was me just joking around!
Well I'm not from the UK so I think I have a lot to learn about being a gentleman
Hi there. The A4's were the main engines to have chime whistles but Oliver Cromwell which you heard is fitted with one as well. This being the Brit class as Britania also has the same whistle. As well as the week sounding LNER Whistle that Tornado has which sounds the same as Green Arrow's watery whistle, Tornado is also fitted with a chime Whistle but you can't beat the classic A4 sound. Glad you like the video. Cheers, Ben Collier.
Very very good video! The A4's look stunning as usual. Seems a bit sad though that the other three were in steam and Mallard is just stood there lifeless and cold. The NRM really do need to restore her to mainline condition. I was up at NRM on sunday and they said that once they finished the Flying scotsman they could possibly restore Mallard if they had enough money. Lets hope they do it!!
sounds like Bittern needs her whistle checked. :P
Well whoever is Bittern I want to know what happened to the whistle that sounds like the Hogwarts Express' whistle?
@@nickelplatenerd6989 it's on br standard 5mt camelot
It’s the video it’s laggy
A steam age whistle
I love this video :D A4 locomotives are my favourite :)
Same here.
I can't believe the mallard isn't going to be steamed. Especially since their celebrating her 75th anniversary. I mean... Dangit. And what would be truly amazing is like on her hundredth they go and try to beat it!
Poor mallard there really should get it back and working
michael thame you are right, it is the fastest steam locomotive in the world after all, and I have always loved it
michael thame It would cost millions to do
michael thame
If I ever win the Pennsylvania Lottery, I'll send my winnings to the National Railway Museum in York. That should cover the cost of Mallard's second restoration.
They did when they opened the Cargile and Seattle railroad. Really it's like the locomotive has a soul and I can connect to him. He wants to run!
We could hear that occasionally from our house in York, when an A4 would be on a special. Lovely sound.
nice to see the all together Ive never seen bittern but have seen all the others at somtimes in my life see mine
Thanks for your comments, she does sum it all up in that statement.
Really pleased to share it with everyone as it was so magical.
2:13 the whistle that was used in "Train Sim" for android, i can't believe o found It!
I love the part from 1:57 until the end!
I love this video but it reduces me to tears each time I watch it (in a good way)
I hear you :), Dwight and Dominion may be British steam locomotives, but I view them as a Gift to America, it would be so nice for me to go on holiday, look around a railway museum and look at a British spectacle and think to myself, I feel honoured that the American's love this type of locomotive. For example too, I also love Big Boy locomotives, and Pennsylvania K4 pacifics they are beautiful :)
It did with me and all the haires on my neck were stood up. Just awesome!
Thanks.
Sir Nigel Gresley has the best sounding whistle in my opinion.
Same!
Yeah totally agree, that would have been the icing on the cake.
Thanks, glad you like it.
Ben.
Everybody talks about the 2013 gathering, but this is the one I always remember.
music to my ears
now then this so bloody brilliant if could l give it 8 stars so good thanks.
These engines are amazing. And as for all the people who keep saying bring Dwight D Eisenhower and Dominion of Canada back need to grow up. They make people in North America happy and proud. I had never even heard of an A4 until I went to the museum where Dwight is kept and I was so amazed at. Now, my ultimate favorite train is the A4 Pacific. It's what got me into railways and model trains.
Great Clip!! Must have been amazing to see mallard - she is a beautiful loco!!
Even though I wasn't there it still brought a lump to the throat and a tear to the eye! Thanks for putting this on youtube. I hope that they repeat the event next year (I hear it has been mentioned).
Oh that would be brilliant if repeated.
Thanks it made me tingle as the sound was deafining and powerfull, like the A4's were making their presence really known to each other.
Glad you like it, thanks. Ben.
Awesome, went to see bittern yesterday on her return from lincoln. Well worth the 2hr trip
I agree, and I'm worried that if she gets a paint job here before returning to North America, that she might get worn down again... It is not the way to treat a steaming spectacle.
That Was Brilliant, An Amazing Moment In Time.
COOL!!!!! 4 A4's lined up and whistling, shame Mallard couldn't be steamed up for this, but at least 3 of them were.
The most beautiful steam engine sound EVER.
I have never before noticed the difference in bodywork at the front between Mallard and the others.
This is a fantastic exhibition!
Great vid and sound quality for something on YT for this long.
I love this video! Thank you so much for posting!
Hi. There is of course Mallard there and No.9 may be there as that's booked to leave on Friday if fixed. No. 7 left yesterday back to Grosmont and Bittern left with train back down to London on Sunday.
Ben.
just magical. thanks for posting
Fantastic Glad you got this on camera. I couldn't make it to the event :-( due to various things.NRM hats off to you guys for pulling this off. Cheers
now this is so brilliant thanks for this video thank you
Thanks for sending me this mate.Mallard's boiler cert has expired or some thing like that, so would need a strip down & rebuild like Scotsman. They've just done the same with Sir Gresley.Cheers
well that fantastic to see al that! absolutely amazing
Mallard made the trip to Doncaster for the workshop's 150th anniversary many years ago - she has ventured outside occasionally!
Imagine if Spencer showed up to hang out with his siblings, his view on steam engines of his own kind would be forever changed
Absolutley brilliant, the best video on you tube.
Spine-tingling indeed. Great pics. *envy* :-)
Excellent video, wish I'd been there. Perhaps there'll be a next time.
good video of the 40th anniversary malard and whistling A++++++++++++
Such a shame that mallard herself isn’t in operation and probably won’t ever be again. Hopefully they will get her operational for her 100th anniversary of her record in 2038!
I went to york before but I did not see
the 60009,60007,60019 and 4468.
I love the ending to this.
did you know that the 60019 bittern is know blue 4492 Dominion of new zealand.
Steam Age/Era Fans: IT’S THE MALLARD WHISTLE!!!!!!
2:42
Beautiful Trains....what a treat !!!
"SILENCE!!!" snapped The Fat Controller.
WOW thats just made me cry i wish i was there
Union: 'Ight, I'm off. See ya.
Gresley: Bye ! Have fun.
Bittern : Farewell.
Mallard: You guys suck.
Bittern sounded a bit rusty,
but beautiful to see the four together
ashame about the other two being abroad
Yes a definate lump in thraot and tear in eye moment there.......
lovely locos. im gonna see nigel gresely on 21st december at kings cross
If only the Dwight D. Eisenhower was there, then all 6 A4's left in the world would be in one spot!!
@OceansApprentice Mallard doesn't whistle because he (or she, i don't know, i'm spanish) was turned off, so he/she hadn't steam to blow the whistle.
Simply magnificent!
Bet it was a superb sight from the train. Any video's welcome from No. 9's train as they were passing.
Good stuff!
I believe 60008 and 4489 have been wonderfully repainted over here, although it would be nice for one of them to stay here, but i read in Steam Railway someone vowed to try and purchase 60008, as for Mallard, i would like to see her in steam again, and if Bittern could reach 100mph on the way back to the cross, Brilliant!!!
After watching this the Leslie rs5t is still the king of train horns
Thanks. Glad you like it. Shame the sun went in as No. 9 approached but we can't have everything I spose!
This will be five years ago tommorrow
i wish mallard was in steam awsome video
2:03 is the same whistle from the fast and fizzle boxes
I say Mallard should remain in the museum as an example of an A4 to be kept in tiptop condition whilst the others can spread the joy round the network. Running locomotives on the mainline tires them out. Bits need replaced. Eventually those still running will have no original parts. Do you want to see that happen to Mallard?
The Dominion of Canada is over your way somewhere. Not sure where!
Also the Dwight D. Eisenhower is in the USA. Again not sure where!
There rest as far as I know are all in Great Britain.
I have seen Mallard and traveled on the Sir Nigel Gresley.
Truly amazing locomotives!
2:42 That's the whistle for the A4's in Roblox Steam Age!
They put the whistle on the wrong livery but that’s okay
The look great !!!
I was there! Great day it was, too bad about the weather though...
Not just the boiler certificate but NRM dont want to rip her apart to find endless problems underneath it would just make 60022 a living hell.
South Africa: See you all later! *whistles goodbye*
Sir Nigel Gresley: Bye!! *whistles*
Bittern: Good luck! *whistles*
Mallard: Get your whistle checked, Bittern.
I read that since there are already 3 A4's in operation that they are not making any plans to restore it to running condition, sadly.
micheal shearer you might mean 2 as i belive 60009 union of south africa wont be anymore as i belive from wat being told there trying to find her a home and it has a cracked boiler
Awesome.
I agree that Mallard should remain static, as the official preserved one, which will allow the others to keep on going without so much worry over the preservation/replica argument. I think the two overseas can remain there, we've got four as it is!
It feels incomplete without Mallard whistling at the very least. It was her anniversary, wasn't it? She should've been pulling that train!
Still, that aside, Union of South Africa, Sir Nigel Gresley and Bittern singing. Proof that the A4s are still going strong!
2:42 horn the mallard train steam age roblox! XD
Yooooo I Js noticed that
Dominion of Canada resides in Canada,
and Dwight.D.Eisenhower resides in The U.S.A
not quite true, she did do some special trips back in 1988, video of which can be found elsewhere on YT.
It's unlikely to be in steam again, as the boiler would need to be re-certified for safety reasons, which would cost much moolah!
@CGiordano464: All except Mallard, who was brought outside for the first time since becoming a museum piece for this event.
I feel so sorry for Bittern. Her whistle sounds so off!
