one interesting thing to note, QUICKSILVER's whistle is about the same pitch and a similar tone to the prewar A4 whistles. It would be nice if high fidelity recordings of this little whistle swap event existed, which could be really helpful for making sound files for DCC decoders.
This is the closest weve ever got to accuratley representing an A4 during WW2 in preservation, just needed diferent lettering and a higher pitched bell whistle
I don't believe it's a leak from wear and tear or from any damages, I think the steam coming off the pipes on the sides were intentionally designed in such a manner. Can check out other footages of the A4s, all seemed to have steam coming out the side pipes when the white is sounded
Sounds like it. The pre-war chime whistles sounded slightly deeper than the post-war chimes. This is most likely a pre-war chime. The pre-war chimes were said to have a tone very similar to that of an air raid siren, so these are likely the prewar whistles
@@SouRwy4501Productionsprobably not all , Quicksilver’s & Woodcock’s yes because Woodcock is DoC , because Doc used to be woodcock when it was first built & before it got its 5 chime & Sparrow Hawks is like during the war tone
That was awesome hearing these whistles. By the way did you get Dominion Of New Zealand's whistle because that particular A4 was fitted with an Ex-NZR whistle. 🤩
Some interesting possibilities for ring-tones, here!!
📱🚂
I was thinking the same thing
Good idea
I never seen let alone a A4 fitted with a different whistle that wasn’t a chime till now in 2:32
A4 with southern whistle 😂
i wasn’t expecting that either 🤣 but i do want to see if A4 Kingfisher’s chime whistle survives into the preservation like other A4 whistles too

I seriously wasn’t expecting that🤣🤣🤣
Are you talking about the US Southern or the Uk one

should have kept the sparrowhawk whistle, so much power behind 2:02

Southern whistle is cute on an a4 makes it seem more playful rather than with the chime whistle it sounds more fierce
😅
90% sure I could here piglet in this video at some point wouldn't surprise me as its taken on the NYMR
0:08 quicksilver
0:32 woodcock
2:02 sparrowhawk
2:27 sir Nigel gresley
2:35 southern whistle
Really enjoyed hearing this!!
Thanks for listening
Is there any way to seal the leak in the piping leading to the whistle? It must be a pain for the crew to see through that at speed.

i really like Sparrowhawk whistle
Me too
2:02
1:50 sounds like that one whistle stock sound effect from cartoons
2:32 that A4 should keep that whistle
these are great, are they the original pre-war whistles?

Can I use this as an sfx for sum of my vids?
So basically.. every A4's whistle was different?
Pretty much, I like that.

That’s interesting J , I will see what I can find re the whistle .
And dominion of Canada is fitted with a Canadian 5 chime.
@@TheSudrianTerrier653i wonder how that would sound on an A4
GVR sent over a NZR K whistle for that A4 that was done up as Dominion of New Zealand but the group never used it and sent it back to us
