Wow! This modernization of this car is brilliant and I love it vary much! And i really like what you did with the headlights of the car and all the extra details of the car really made my jaw drop! Over all the car looks awesome! And it's definitely something that people today would injoy!
I actually did that years ago. Drew a Lil Red Express with a charger inspired grill, etc. I had a whole bunch of drawings of it, sadly I lost them all when we moved.
Love these cars, bought a brand new 74 V6 4-speed for commute, $4k out the door, added lowering springs, front air dam, enki 15" gold mesh wheels. What a dependable car that was!
Now you have to do the Chevy Vega! It’s only fair. Definitely one of your best redesigns to date! Bravo! Personal request: 2nd Generation Lexus GS (with the spoiler obviously!) 🙏
Ford Capri's rival of that era was the Opel Manta A Series. Lately, Opel introduced it's restomod version of the Manta A with an electric motor. Your lovely version of a modernised Capri MK1 would certainly rekindle the battle between both models again.
Best looking car I ever had, mine was 1600 also 71 in Ford Evergreen with black vinyl roof. Those wheels are awesome & had a locking wheel nut to deter theft
Probably a Unpopular opinion, and you are entirely entitled to your opinion that you like it. Yet, as a fellow Ford Capri enthusiast, I think the redesigned front end is absolutely hideous 😅 I do like what Sketch Monkey did to the side(I personally would have made slight RS2600/RS3100 racecar style widebody, maybe just a mm or 10, maybe 20 each side and still retain that classic Capri shoulder line, again, personal preference), the bigger rims and wider tires are stunning(especially the 'banana spoke' rims in general) and the headlights themselves look cool, could have used a gurney flap or a modernised 240Z ducktail to finish off the back end😅. But I think that modern Dodge Challenger, i.e. brick wall, front end is not pretty. I would have made rounder edges to start off(could just be a slight colour change or highlight to fix that, I can only criticise😅, not do the same as he does in Photoshop(I can on paper however😁)), or maybe a 'rounder' front end in general, like a modern Mustang has. As you delete that rounded bottom of the front end you lose the shape and feel of the front. Maybe use more of a gen 3 Capri 3.0S or Turbo bumper.(I cannot explain things that well, so please look up a Ford Capri 3.0S or Capri Turbo and you'll see what I mean as you read more) That has a little more shape to it with a, how shall I put it, schaled down '5mph bumper', a slight dip below that and a lip at the bottom, maybe top it off with a splitter like the 2019 Mustang GT350. Again, I will emphasise that this is MY opinion, and you do not have to do anything with it nor do I intend to bash in anyone elses opinion because I respect them all. This is just how I would have done it, and I only wanted to share it with all of you who are (most likely) just as creative minded as I am. As I also said that there are aspects of Sketch Monkeys redesign I absolutely DO like, and I would surely have used those too in my redesign. And I genuinely mean that. (It is like the term, "Respect all builds." Nobody said you have to like it, but you can still appreciate the effort put into it🤗) So thank you for reading, please let me know your thoughts by reacting to my comment, but please, be respectful😉 Thanks
I generally really like your redesigns but this one missed the mark for me. The sweeping rear quarter window is one of the defining characteristics of a Capri. Changing the window shape to add a kink really looks quite odd, and combined with the new beltline it almost takes on a Mustang fastback look (cool - but doesn't suit a Capri). It's interesting you should have the idea of it being a cross between Japanese sport coupes and American pony cars. I would say that Japanese sport coupes were heavily influenced by European sports cars but often also drawing from American styling touches. I don't think the Europeans were paying much attention to what Japan was doing in the late 60s. That said, what goes around comes around and there was an interesting Japanese tuner style '71 Capri (fender flares, Wats with stretched tires) on BAT recently. For what it's worth - the Capri was never sold in the US with rectangular lights, that was the European Mk2 only, and only for 3 or so years in the mid '70s. The US Capri II had the four eyes. I agree - a much preferable look.
When I just saw the miniature on RUclips, I was like OMG, he's doing the Lamborghini Espada! I was wrong, but it's a good way to tell about it that I'd love to see a redesign off the Espada :D
The capri name was used by ford Australia in 1990 with an aussie built 2 door front wheel drive convertible, left hand drive cars were built for the north american market, those cars were badged as a mercury capri, it was a competitor to the mazda miata (mx-5) in Australia there was a limited edition xr-2 with was turbo charged. They looked really cool at the time. The run only lasted till about 94.
@@korent247 Yes I can imagine that was difficult to do however there are plenty of other microcars to choose from...or...create something completely new and different. He (or you) could take inspiration from what he likes about Korean designs (they don't have to follow strict design rules...you can have fun making it quirky and weird!!!) After all microcars were about fun, quirkiness and low-costiness.
I do also love the RS Watanabe style rims, making them slightly bigger and visually lighter than the ones in the Capri makes for a great all around rim for a lot of cars and small vans
Would've liked to see the shoulder line wrap around the car better. Atm, it just clashes into the headlights. Maybe raising the shoulder line or lowering the headlight line to match up with the shoulder line.
Pretty slick. And if you redesign the suspension and drivetrain it could be awesome. Had the same thought about the 1972 26M coupe but with modern drivetrain and suspension. And the Opel Manta A model. Keep it up.
Noice! The front part is really cool but if I was thinking about the practicality I would make a front bumper as a separate part. From the designer's point it looks really cool but from the driver's point it's a trouble to change the whole front body part. Plus front fenders and a bumper both supposed to be made of plastic or metal.
You made it look like an opel kaddett coupe frankly the capri is an amazingly simple but well designed coupe that loose sophistication the more modern it looks. I should know father had everything from a 1973 3ltr gxl which I completely lusted after to the last capri he owned a purple and blue 2.0 laser with full shark grey half leather 2.8special interior he had loads.

I actually love the look of the car. Between the Capri & Escort of the UK Ford's of the 70's are just aggressive looking. And they didn't play when it came down to Rally Racing in the 70's. It has the same look of the Toyota Mustang of the mid 70's. If someone doesn't know what I'm talking about, well it the Celica. Just jam up looking cars for the time. Redesign the nissan silvia S12 Also about the capri redesign Simple and done right yet I wonder how it would look like if the car was kept in production with different versions over the years even changing the shape a bit more but staying the same at the same time like the Mustang
IMO the front of the Capri update is too rectangular and blocky, prefer the original myself. Side profile is pretty good with a cleaner, straighter crease and an additional rear shoulder line but the updated door handles are positioned too low. The C pillar and rear side window look more BMW/Mustang than Capri. The larger carried over wheels/tyres, wider track, lowered windshield wipers, increased tumblehome and rake of windshield plus updated mirrors gives it a fresher and more modern appearance but there is a jarring 'bump' where the A pillar and roof join. Modernizing a classic is no easy feat without it looking compromised but it sure looks fun doing so.
